The school and its entire staff from the principal to the maintenance staff are amazing. The principal welcomes everyone personally. I feel like they make an effort to know the child in order to help them thrive. They dont just make you feel like they care, they actually do.

My eldest attended several years ago, and had a wonderful experience in ECE 4s and Kinder. My second child attended for both ECE 3 & 4. Their experience in 3s was great! Ms. Hilary is so kind and patient and caring. Their experience in 4s was... well, it left a lot to be desired. The new principal is trying a mixed age approach for the kids, which sounds great on paper, but by the time my child was at the end of the year in 4s, they were mixed with kids who were just barely 3 1/2, as well as kids who had already been 5 for months. That is a huge difference for children in terms of their development, and we were very disappointed that the class was handled more like daycare than an ECE program. Had we been given the choice to keep our kid in a standard age class we certainly would have done that, and it seems that they have maintained a mix of classroom types. Additionally, the classroom staff experienced a very high amount of turnover, and the second teacher of the year even left 2 weeks before the end of school, without any notice. It felt very inconsistent, and whatever support was extended by the principal was not communicated very well to the parents. However, we know other families who have been very happy throughout, so perhaps we just had an unlucky year. They are very good about forming a community, however, and the pickup/dropoff situation really helps foster friendships among parents as well as the school staff.

My son went to this school around 6-7 years ago. He has autism and the psychologists did a fantastic job of helping him. I personally would want to thank Mrs. Alison Wilcox for helping him get through kindergarten. The previous principal Mrs. Renee was very kind. Now, the school has started to decline. I hope that this school can become what it used to be.

My daughter attends ECE at Stephen Knight. The teacher Mr. Bryan is a wonderful educator and very patient with the children. My daughter has special needs and the ot and st that help her are also amazing. I have a friend whose daughter attended here a couple of years ago and she also had a great experience.

I've had two children attend this school. The first was under the old princpal and it was a FABULOUS experience. Then, there was a changing of the guards, the new principal was hired, and our exceptional kinder teachers left. Every single one left. The following year, with all new kinder teachers, one left mid-year as she did not feel supported. All kinder teachers are ok, but they are not the exceptional educators that were once at the school. Further, the principal creates such a toxic environment that I do not feel that the teachers are happy thereby not making the children happy. The principal is disengaged, not supportive, does not have the faintest idea how to run a school, unprofessional, and everything in between. I cannot express enough my disappointment in the administration and DPS's complacency about it - despite huge parental backlash. And, the teachers fear for their jobs so much that they don't say anything.

The Cory parents were able to oust the principal when they were unhappy with her, in this case, because Stephen Knight only goes to kinder, parents aren't at the school long enough to care. As a result, people hold their breath until they get out of the place and go to Cory for first grade. I will not be sending my third child to the school. I only hope that DPS will provide the teachers the support they need and admit that Shiela Deacon was a TERRIBLE choice and get rid of her.

I would not recommend this school anymore because of the principal they have now. It was a wonderful School but now it has gone down. Teachers are so in fear of their job they can't seem to concentrate on Be an Effective teachers.

The newest principal is a bully she has a way of making sure her teachers are not supported by her she really has no clue of what goes on in a classroom. Since she has been there the atmosphere of the school is very gray. Teachers are afraid to speak up for what they feel is right or wrong in the school in fear of losing their jobs. She gives unfair reviews and she uses this as a way to push paraprofessional and teachers out of a job. This was a wonderful place to work at not anymore. When the teachers went on strike she was not a sense of encouragement for the teachers or welcoming them back. She made it clear that talking about the strike amongst the teachers and parents was not to be done.

My daughter attended kindergarten here and we were extremely impressed with the teachers. They were able to identify certain learning differences she had and cater to her needs. The main kindergarten teacher is retiring this upcoming year and I hope they replace her with someone just as great.

This is my sons second year at this school. This year there is a new principal who is VERY fund raiser driven, which I appreciate. But she is not safety oriented like the previous principal. Drop off and pick up is unsafe and chaotic. I have two year old twins in addition to my preschooler and safely trying to get my three kids through traffic and in and out of the school has been a nightmare with two close calls in the parking lot. I can count on one hand how many times the principal has been out front of the school during pickup. The old principal would be out in the parking lot in an Orange vest helping keep kids safe. The new principal doesnt participate in this at all. I will not be sending my two youngest to this school. My opinion of this schools teachers is very high and Ive loved my sons experiences here. I feel he has really learned so much and loves his teachers. I just dont agree with the shift from safety to money. The school is getting a new playground and has been way too focused on find raising. Id rather my child attends a school with a perfectly great but slightly older play ground than risk my two year olds getting hit by a car in the parking lot. Cars speeding by with drivers on cell phones. Near physical fighting over parking spots. I have emailed, called, and dropped by the principals office in person and there has yet to be any improvement to the safety in the parking lot. I am very saddened by the changes i have seen in the two years we have spent at this school and hope it eventually improves but its not looking promising.

My daughter was in ECE3 half day and loved her class and her teachers! The student:teacher ratio is unbelievable! Her social skills blossomed, and she knows how to write and identify her letters and numbers up to 10. The teacher did a wonderful job of making learning fun through a play based curriculum and individualizing the teaching. We feel so lucky to have gotten into this school.

In the 2 years that our daughter has been attending, we have had nothing but a wonderful experience. The teachers she has had have been superior and the education she has received has been remarkable. We have a great relationship with the principal-and the staff, collectively, is very involved and engaged. The parents we have met along the way are excited about their experiences as well. I have been on the PTA for the past 2 years and look forward to my involvement again this year! Overall, I have been very pleased and so is our daughter-which makes us thrilled in anticipation for the upcoming 2016-17 school year

As another parent commented, this school is truly a special and wonderful place! Our daughter is in the ECE-4 all-day program. Her learning and growth, both academically and socially/emotionally, has been exponential at Stephen Knight Center for Early Education (SKCEE). She had been in various daycares since she was an infant, and the leaps and bounds we have seen in her at SKCEE have been incredible. Even in the first two weeks it was clear that her teachers were motivating her and inspiring her to learn in a much deeper and stronger way than we'd ever seen. Their ability to weave preschool learning concepts like literacy and everyday math skills into fun activities throughout the day is outstanding. She feels like she is just playing all day, yet she comes home with big vocabulary words like deciduous and prediction (and understands how to use them correctly) and can solve addition/subtraction problems easily. She has learned the ASL alphabet, yoga, some Spanish. She has learned about filling other peoples' buckets and other social/emotional concepts that have helped her mature. All of this at four years old! The teachers at this school are deeply devoted to and highly skilled in early education. They meet each child at the child's current level, and tap into what each child needs to move forward to reach their potential. The 'specials' teacher, Ms. Cookie, is a highlight each day for many kids. She makes the integrated arts (music, visual arts, sports/body movement) exciting and fun. Another plus has been the creative use of field trips and even just going outside to explore nature and link learning concepts to life beyond the classroom. We've also been impressed with the wide array of enrichment classes offered before and after school. Providing 3, 4, and 5-year-olds the opportunity to learn ballet, Spanish, music, STEM concepts, cooking, soccer, drawing, Legos, and many more while at school (instead of mom/dad as chaperone from activity to activity) has been another terrific surprise of SKCEE. This is a safe, fun, and engaging school full of professionals who are passionate about early education and giving kids the tools they need to succeed as they prepare for elementary education. We are so happy our daughter is able to attend this wonderful school.

The kids are in preschool and Kindergarten. Can't speak to K classes, but we've had no homework for ECE 4, which is exactly what I'd expect. The teachers do send home ideas and suggestions for enrichment at home, and things parents can do to enhance classroom learning, but no homework.

What a special place! We love that this is a preschool (ECE 3 and ECE 4) and Kindergarten only school, so our little kids feel comfortable and secure. The staff and teachers have been wonderful. The principal is responsive to any concerns brought to her attention. The front office staff is warm and helpful. Their is a strong PTA and a good sense of community. Many fundraisers and events are planned throughout the year. As a former teacher, I am very picky about the quality of the preschool and Kinder programs. I have been very impressed with the play-based, arts, and academic components. The Kindergarten teachers have been excellent. My daughter's teacher is able to differentiate the curriculum to meet her academic needs. My daughter loves attending school. There is structure, but also creativity. We have been very happy attending our neighborhood preschool and Kindergarten at the Stephen Knight Center.

I feel like this school has been retroactive in my daughter's learning. I have spent years teaching her language, science and math to get her ahead. She is in the "advanced" kindergarten, which has focused on coloring in the lines, and gluing construction paper. Needless to say, this is not what she was tested on to get into the gifted 1st grade. She didn't make it into the Denver program, but got into Jeffco. I am very disappointed that this school has prevented her progress with a weak curriculum. I regret choosing this school.
