Personally (& i speak for alot of the CO26 alumni) there was a time where everything was fine , but as things changed around the school from freshman year we started to realize that the principal was weird.. she never engaged with students, and she was never around. Alot of the staff was weird too, also disrespectful. I appreciate a small portion of the staff and teachers but the rest of them were just awful. This school has great opportunities but the admin only cares about what you do or wanna do with your future when its already too late. All the good staff is unfortunately leaving or retiring and theres gonna be a huge wave of long term subs again (which made alot of our sophomore year terrible and we almost slacked off during a REQUIRED CORE CLASS) i wish the best of luck to whoever attends next. Theres also a scandal almost every week and it usually involves a teacher. The yearbook people also dont do the best job, and all the students are “cliqued” by their supposed social status and high ego of them thinking they are better than everyone else. This school also undergoes a large range of messy situations with students and admins do nothing about it or handle the situation when it is too late. I could say more but it would get restricted lol

This school is awful . They need either new employees or to be shut down . They told my son he has No rights . I tried to prevent something from happening and they purposely let it. This is the worst school in Colorado hands down .

We love a lot of the teachers at this school. So far, many have been willing to work with students and understand that a lot of our high school students in this area work to help their families. They reflect this understanding through being flexible. On the opposite side, there are some teachers who seem to not understand the area they are serving and won't budge at all. We recently went to admin over an issue with a teacher and they were no help, stating that we weren't there for a solutions-based meeting and only to point fingers. We had tried already to explain the situation and it was like talking to a brick wall. A solution was not reached and they won't allow the student in question to change classes despite having a hostile learning environment. So far 90% of teachers would get an A+ from me. The other 10% and admin are causing me to switch schools so my daughter feels welcome.

great school, just needs remodeling from the crackes from the floor and the old lobbys also need to be remodeled, and the cracks in the walls...

Someone said this: "The principal brags that the campus is one of the safest in the state. With over 30 fights per year, how can this be true?"

I watched a PBS story about Hinkley and I was quite pleased to hear about their restorative justice system they now use in place of zero tolerance.

In 2007 there were 264 fights at the school in one school year and if they now average 30 they are obviously doing something very right.

Communication, conflict resolution and learning to deal with someone without using your fists is extremely important to being able to function as successful adults.

I think that Hinkley gets a bad rap & a lot of parents are too busy making excuses for their kids to actually see the good in the school. One of my kids graduated from there in 2011 with a double letter in Music and another will be graduating soon with letters & pins in Academics & Basketball. Hinkley has one of the Best IB programs in the state & the coaches are Great, if you give them a chance. I didn't really like the AD at first, but in all honesty, she is just doing her job. Don't hate her because your child isn't being coddled... This is High School, not Head Start!!!

As the Athletic Director, League President and board member of the Colorado Athletic Directors Association, our athletics department follows all rules/ regulations/ policies set forth by CHSAA. If you look at Hinkley's rating, you have to wonder why it is so low. It comes down to the school's leadership. Hinkley's administration promotes low academic expectations. Teachers are told that giving low grades will hurt the self esteem of the students. This is their rationale for providing inflated grades. The principal brags that the campus is one of the safest in the state. With over 30 fights per year, how can this be true? Immigrant students with poor English skills are not provided adequate help in the school's woefully inadequate ELA program. Most are totally unprepared for life outside of the "shelter" that the poorly trained Hinkley teachers provide. The hallways are noisy, crowded, with little monitoring and student self control. If there is a solution to HInkley, it may be state takeover or the removal of the administration with strong school board oversight. The current admins apparently can blow smoke in the face of the school superintendent and others in high places in the school district. Unless this occurs, I would warn anyone from working as a teacher at this school or from attending it as a student.
