This is a great school if looking for smaller classes and well rounded learning experience. Great principal and teachers that are always available to discuss growth and development of students.

When my daughter started CLA in 2020 she was really behind and struggling. Fast track to 2023 and my daughter is excelling in ways I didnt think she would ever be. Ms Sadie is wonderful and she pushes my daughter to be great and I wouldnt have it any other way. While we will be moving on next year because its just time, I would like to thank CLA for everything that they have given my daughter and my family.

CLA has been a refreshing place of growth and community for my child and family. My child is excited about the learning that takes place and unlike many schools in DC, my child is learning history, civics, science, research skills, presentation skills, life skills and much more! In addition, the concept of using the community as a classroom and creating field learning experiences and exposure to inner city children is one thing that sets this school apart from many. My child is challenged and pushed and the Facilitators allow my child and other learners to take ownership for their learning and to have a love for learning and community while having fun even when its challenging. Learning is Informative, Engaging and Fun. The pedagogy used for facilitating is tailored to each learner and what they need to learn and stay actively engaged while thriving. The entire staff is supportive of the family unit and encourage family engagement, feedback and support; its definitely a school that is moving from family engagement to family collaboration. In addition, the Board Members are present and provide families with a place of feeling apart of the community. The academic growth that I have seen in my child is the most that I have seen in my students entire academic career. CLA provides a holistic approach to learning, community and family engagement. Choosing CLA as the educational vehicle for my learner was the best decision that my family and community could have made for my childs overall well-being and learning.

CLA is a great school with a student to teacher ratio that ensures students get the support and individual attention they need. And because its a small school, the parents know who you are as you were asked to leave. This is the kind of review you receive when Karens dont get their way!
CLA keep doing what youre doing! Youre doing an excellent job.

This place is a joke. There is no instruction and the learning materials are $5 Scholastic workbooks. The students are afforded "independence" which translates into the kids goofing off all day or sleeping with no accountability. The "middle school teacher" and director are apathetic toward the success of the students. Many parents have withdrawn their children or are supplementing at home with private instruction and expensive tutoring. Don't expect your child to learn or stay on grade level here.
