We are leaving Janney and a large number of families of children above grade 2 are, as well. Principal Danielle Singh has created a culture of no accountability, including allowing an abusive teacher to continue teaching after three years of bad behavior (including refusing to allow students to receive accommodations and services as required by law). Staff and families find her non-responsive, afraid of conflict to the point of inaction, and focused only on optics and her own personal goals. Several of our best teachers are leaving or planning to leave, as well. Families who have younger children at Janney as well as older children who went to Janney before the principal changed speak regularly to how different it is now under Singh. The community and PTA are wonderful, and lower grade teachers are generally better regarded than upper grade teachers. Special education students, in particular, are considered a burden and the staff routinely pass the buck when working with them.

One of the best elementary schools in DC. The teachers are very engaging with the students. The support staff and administrators are wonderful. The school is well run, has a fantastic PTA and parent support, lots of after-school and extracurricular activities for a wide variety of interests. It prepares kids well for middle school. All 4 of my children have gone or are going there and I have nothing but good things to say about Janney!

The best school in DC BY FAR! Every single one of the staff members are very engaged with all of the students. They recognize and know each and every student by name. They foster and nurturing loving environment to make all new students and current students feel welcomed and heard /seen. They operate that if a private school so there are so many programs and courses before and after school for the children. They are learning at such and accelerated rate that my 5 year old who has never been to school has already learned how to read in a matter of months. They teach social studies, math, reading, writing anything you can imagine you name it to their kindergarteners. Imagine what is being taught to the upper level grades. They do not miss a beat on informing parents and keeping us up to date with what goes on at school. They are very transparent and interactive and available whenever you need them. Theres just so much good to say about this school Im absolutely in love with the environment. Ive seen nothing but kindness from all students. No bullying everyone is very supportive of one another which I love! Another great thing is that students who are struggling a little in a subject are taken out of class and into McAllen groups to help keep them ahead with their peers in whichever lesson they might be needing xtra work on instead of not caring and letting them fall behind.

Janney is a wonderful school and one of the best in DC. The teachers and staff foster a warm, nurturing environment that celebrates learning. The after-school programming is amazing and the community is very welcoming. It's an exceptional school!

This is one of the best schools in DC. The school and teachers are amazing, but what really sets Janney apart is the high quality of after-school programs that are offered to the kids. They can take foreign languages, STEM classes, dancing, and can get help with homework through Janney Plus. It is so helpful, convenient, and well-run. We are so fortunate to have Janney.

Janney's curriculum is dumbed down and the teachers in 3rd grade seem very apathetic. Most of the school personnel don't know who they children are and where they are in the school. The school promotes their liberal views and push them on the children. In general the teachers don't seem invested. I guess it is public school and not meant to be high quality.

This school has a very diverse population that makes up a strong student body of 700 students. With an awesome principal at it's helm, education strategies continue to evolve to meet the needs of the students. The PTA is very involved with promoting these strategies through financial support from the Janney community. Janney also has an after care program until 6:30pm, and after school enrichment activities, such as robotics, piano, flag football, and cooking. Note: This is one of the top performing schools in north west D.C..

Janney is great. My Son is a fourth grader that hated going to school before Janney. The teachers and students welcomed my Son making his school day fulfilled with a well balaned education and social environment. The teachers are dedicated to ensuring the success of every Student academic involvement. The Principal make certain that all students are safe and well taught.

The principal has a laser-like focus on fostering a professional community based on quality instruction. The teachers care about good teaching, and they have a shared sense of what it looks like. The principal is level-headed, strong communicator, community-minded---doesn't always do what the parents want, but does always have the children's Education in mind, with every decision. The reason for the positive tone in this learning community starts with the Principal.

Our 2nd and 4th graders attend and we feel fortunate to be in a school where parent involvement makes it tick. There are some special teachers there, who aren't "burnt out" and are excited to be at a school like Janney. They have a beautiful library, gym, art room and music. There is even a full time recess coordinator who gets the kids moving. Most are made possible through PTA funds (i.e. voluntary parent contributions) so as long as parents keep contributing, it certainly beats private school tuition.
