We absolutely love Hyde-Addison Elementary! The school has such a welcoming and joyful culture — it truly feels like a community. The diversity of the student body is one of its greatest strengths, and the environment is inclusive and supportive for every child.

The facilities are bright, clean, and thoughtfully maintained, creating a space where students feel proud to learn. There are so many opportunities for students to get involved — from enrichment activities to creative projects — and the staff goes above and beyond to make learning engaging and fun.

Hyde-Addison’s approach to supporting students is phenomenal. The teachers and intervention team are dedicated and responsive, ensuring that every child gets what they need to thrive. Teacher and staff retention is strong, which speaks volumes about the leadership and school culture.

The PTA is incredibly active and does so much to bring families together and enhance school life. The parent community is warm, collaborative, and genuinely invested in the school’s success.

We feel so fortunate to be part of Hyde-Addison — it’s a gem in the heart of D.C.!

We were fortune enough to match with the school through the lottery and couldn’t be happier. My daughter attends 1st grade, and both her teacher and principle are incredible. For high-performing student this is an amazing school where they are well supported.

This school is unique! They have a special treatment and care with all the students. One by one.
The teachers are very enthusiasts, encouragers and motivators.
Family activities all year round.

Our son has been a student at Hyde since Kindergarten & he is now in 4th grade. We have been extremely impressed by the amazing teachers & wonderful community at Hyde. The school emphasizes core values of integrity, diversity, kindness, perseverance & curiosity which can be found throughout the school, the children, the families, the teachers & the administration. We have nothing but the best things to say about Hyde!

This is school is everything that as a parent we expect. Teachers completely engaged, knowledgeable, with a fantastic attitude that create a happy environment for our kids, while showing great professionalism every day.

Our children started at Hyde for the 22/23 school year. They love it, we love it. I've been particularly impressed by the kindergarten curriculum. My daughter is very smart and is still being challenged.

Our son is in Hyde for the last two years. Frankly due to low ratings (or them getting lower during the few years) I had many reservations. I was even ready to sell our house and move. But: the school is GREAT so far. Way above my expectations. The teachers are super on top of everything. The new building is very accommodating. Families are good and this year it is serving almost 100% to the neighborhood. Highly recommended.

This is our neighborhood school, located in Georgetown, and it is wonderful. Our family has been at this school for two years (last year was all virtual and this year the students are in person). The teachers are exceptional and hardworking and greatly loved by my son and his classmates. I find them to be incredibly enthusiastic and I see them working with and guiding families and children who need extra help. They meet kids were they are and effectively work with learning differences to help them reach the next level. I could not be more impressed with the faculty. The administration is working smartly to give kids and families an outstanding elementary school experience. I am thrilled to be part of this school. Thank you Hyde-Addison administration, faculty, and staff!

I feel at great ease that my child is in the very best hands with her disability. The team supporting her is incredible, from the class room teacher to the special teachers, absolutely amazing.

Surprised and disappointed to say the least, especially considering the neighborhood. Worst experience I've ever encountered at a school and with staff. I'm disgusted by the non-chalaunt attitudes that I feel I am dealing with.

Homework is assigned in reasonable amounts. What stands out is the accountability required not only of the students but also the families, who are asked to review and sign off on the students' homework.

Children began familiarization with homework as early as kindergarten. Teachers are excellent with structured, conceptual teaching that is effective for young children in beginner math and reading training.

Hyde is terrific public school that enables my daughter to be academically challenged in a nurturing and diverse setting. Ms. Namba has turned what was a good school, into a great school. Sure there are areas of improvement but it's the small stuff. We are about to embark on a school renovation which will be hard on the community. But in just a short time, my neighborhood will have a first class facility to go along with the first class administrators and teachers.

What was a truly diverse community with dedicated parents has been demolished by Principal Namba. She has done nothing to guide the school and seems to not be interested in anything other than upping Math and Language Arts test scores (and her resulting career). Art, music, science, and world languages do not seem to matter to her at all. The idea of the whole child is very clearly not of importance. A true shame, Hyde has been torn apart from the inside out.

Hyde-Addison has a very weak principal, Elizabeth Namba, and overwhelmed teachers. Namba and her many assistants are always trying to reach a "magic number" of students (to get more money and hire more staff) so the classrooms are messy and crowded. The whole school will be moved to Howard University area for at least 2 years but this information was disclosed to new parents only after enrollment. Teaching staff lacks diversity.

In short, two thumbs down.

A once great school that was destroyed by local politicians, school administrators and out of boundary parents that demanded the school be closed for two years and the students shipped across the city all to build a gym that the school does not need and no one wants.

Hyde Addison is a wonderful school in the District. The student population is culturally & socio-economically mixed--many different languages & backgrounds come together. The parents/guardians are very kind and involved, and I didn't experience any of the pettiness I've seen in other PTOs. We felt wecomed.

One of my kids had a completely positive, completely normal school experience here. The other needed more help, and even though he didn't score low enough to _require_ additional help, he got it!!! The teachers and staff worked with me and with each other to meet his needs and help him to rise to grade level, all the while keeping school a positive space for him.

The after-care program is also great--the kids get their homework done, participate in extracurricular activities, and PLAY!!!!! It is great to pick them up, knowing that although they had to be at school so I could work, they still had a great time and regularly (REGULARLY) begged to get to stay longer!

If we had our way, we never would leave Hyde Addison!

Hyde-Addison is more than a school community, it is a school family. The playground culture is unmatched in the District of Columbia. We have the privilege of matching children faces with parents faces as well as learning names of both parents and children. We also are able to forge lasting and supporting relationships among our families.

I drive my son across the city (6.3 miles) for the last three years so he can get the great education at this school. I do not mind construction, street closures, intense traffic, diplomat's barricades, and sharing with bikers. It worth the efforts.

Hyde is a great school with lots of parental involvement and teacher commitment. I have 3 sons and they have all different personalities, at Hyde each of their needs are met and they are all able to learn beyond measures. I also that the principal is one of the best and takes on a role that is personal, passionate, and respectful, that helps the children feel more confident and want to excel in everyday learning. I think that Hyde Addison Elementary is one of the best in Washington DC.

My school is where I learn, I play and I stay 6 hours a day. I go with my little brother. He is in kindergarten and I am in 3rd grade. Everyone knows our names. There I met my best friends. They are Americans or from all over the world. Together we learn Math, Science, History and also other countries's cultures. My favorite places are the library and the playground. But it could be better. I wish we have more teachers and a theater for plays. I love to go to school every day!

Hyde Addison is a gem. For a public school, you really get a quality education. The staff is professional, responsive, and - most importantly - they love the children. There is a strong sense of community and my children have learned values that far exceed academics. They have learned to celebrate differences, conflict resolution, empathy, and respect for self and others. I can on and on about this school. There is a very involved community of parents that are an integral part of the educational experience. Dana's leadership is phenomenal. She gives her all to that school and it really shows. We are blessed to be a part of such a vibrant and thriving community!

This is a wonderful small school that does a great job across many areas of education. My eldest child has attended from PreK-4th grade, and my youngest from PreK-1st. Both kids have had amazing teachers who have worked with them and pushed them to do their best. Every adult in the school knows every child's name and there is a good feeling of community among the parents. I find it to be an excellent school!

My child has attended grades K-5 at Hyde Addison and I can say without hesitation that I have no regrets with sending him here. Hyde has all of the benefits of a small school but some of its drawbacks as well. I have a lot of faith in Principal Nerenberg and the teachers. They all know my child, which isn't uncommon, and take a genuine interest inside and outside the classroom to make sure he succeeds. The school underwent a multi-million dollar renovation thanks to the Fenty Administration and now has 2 historic schoolhouses connected by a fenced in playground. While the school has all the charm of Georgetown so too its space constraints. The children go to Fillmore (Hardy) on Wednesdays for 2 arts electives. This works out well but the school's lack of a gym is something the administration needs to address. They have 2 PE classes/week outside or in makeshift spaces. Performances and PTA meetings are generally held at St. John's Church across the street. Class sizes are on the high end and would be difficult to manage if not for the student teacher assisants. The school is incredibly diverse both socioeconomically and linguistically. I call it the United Nations of schools.
