St. Thomas More Catholic Academy is a great school! My 15 year old is a graduate and my 13 year is going to the 8th grade this coming school year. My 15 year old had struggles in Math but with constant tutoring, she is now doing well in Math at Arch Bishop Carroll Catholic High School. St. Thomas More has prepared my daughter for high school by giving her and the other students challenging work. The principal, Ms. Bridget Coates, is excellent! Aside from being principal, she is also the Language Arts teacher. She cares for the students and takes a great interest in them. Whenever she sees a student not living up to their potential, she immediately calls the parents in for a meeting so that she can work with the parents to come up with a solution to get the children on track and where they need to be. She has nothing but love and concern for each student there. I've seen her interact with the children and she is AWESOME!!! I attended the school when it was just St. Thomas More Catholic School. It was great then and it's even better now! This is the best school ever for my children. Not only is Ms. Coates great, but her entire staff is awesome! I LOVE this school and I'm sending my grandson there when he is ready for Pre-K!!

The children have homework every single night, which I think is beneficial to them in the long run.

Attending St. Thomas More Catholic Academy was one of the best things that could have happened to me. I learned good study habits which helped me get high grades on tests/quizzes. I also developed my leadership skills by serving as a mentor for an elementary school. Most of all, I learned how to challenge myself without being afraid of failing. Ms. Coates and Father Moore were extremely helpful in working to my fullest potential and to never give up. Ms. Coates and Father Moore are extremely supportive, caring and honest. Without their love and guidance, I am not sure if my time at STM would have been as wonderful, successful and memorable. Go Raiders!

The principal is overly controlling and there is absolutely no warmth or compassion about her

Teachers are good but many are intimidated by the principal - therefore high turnover
Posted: March 24, 2017
The homework is rote - no creativity
Posted: March 24, 2017
The morale among the teachers at this school is very low. The principal is overly controlling and vindictive both toward teachers and toward certain students. Because of her intimidating approach, teachers are hesitant to be creative or take initiative. The principal can also be hostile toward certain parents as well. There is a high turnover among students at this school; however because the school is located in a neighborhood where there are not a lot of other options, some families choose to put up with the dysfunction. There have been many complaints about the principal to the Catholic Archdiocese but they have chosen to look the other way.

My daughter is planning on a ttending this school next year after reading these profiles I believe that I made a great choice. So far I had been impressed with what they had did as far as enrolling my child into school. I havent yet met the Principal but I heard alot of great things about her.

My son has been attending St. Thomas More Catholic Academy as it is now called since the 2nd grade and he is now in the 5th grade. I have been extremely satisfied with the school, teachers, principle and the curriculum. The teachers are just excellent. They are extremely dedicated to ensuring our kids receive the best education possible. They go above and beyond what is asked of them and they make learning fun and challenging so that the kids want to come to school and they want to learn. My son enjoys attending the school and has such a passion for learning and excelling in school. He set a goal at the start of the school year to get perfect attendance and straight A's and he has accomplished his goals. I am very proud of him and proud to be a part of the STM family.
