My child is having a wonderful experience at St. Augustine because the teachers are experienced and caring. The teachers are always available to meet and discuss any questions that I have regarding my child's education.
The parish community supports the student body academically and spiritually. I have been very pleased with this school.

St. Augustine is a small family-oriented school that is actively supported by the parish. The teachers effectively challenge the students and provide multiple opportunities for enrichment outside of classwork/homework. I like that the classes are a reasonable size, allowing the teachers to provide extra attention when needed to their students.

Saint Augustine is amazing! I am so impressed with the curriculum. Teachers challenge students academically, yet they incorporate a joyful hands-on learning experience. The enriching opportunities are endless in academics, arts, athletics, and service, which provides a well-rounded education and cultivates respect for others, confidence, and the joy of discovery. However administration has to improve the communication with parents and do not ignore emails or calls.

It's as if they never ran a school before. The communications between school and parent are limited and I almost feel like they don't want to talk to parents.

There are administrators in this school who embellishes stories about these children all of the time. If something occurs between two children they will pick a child as the target and hold that child accountable while nothing happen to the other child.

I had a horrible experience at this school. The teachers were good. The administration were inept. They followed no school policy. They fly by the seat of their pants. They have no idea how to run a school.

Homework is not necessarily used as reinforcement at Saint Augustine. My Child comes home with homework that they have never seen before.

I have three children that attend St. Augustine School and it has been rewarding for me and for them to be in an academic environment that is thriving. My children are not only receiving a great education, but they feel safe and respected. They enjoy their teachers, some with great sense of humor, and a principal who knows their names. It's a pleasure to drop them off on mornings where they are greeted by the math teacher ( Mr. Riley) at the front door with a smile and a handshake. The prayer in the morning and afternoon is an added touch and one my children look forward to each day to start and end their day. Overall, St. Augustine School is a great institution for learning and growing.

The school does not tolerate bullying. I have an adolescent boy so the lines of bullying and typical chatter among friends is gets blurred, and to keep it from being a question whenever certain discussions start they are cut off by the teachers and administrators.

It is tough but many times the students believe I did not do anything and ask "Why am I being addressed" but it is and has become an sensitive issue in today's school environment and nothing is let to chance there. The social workers is sometimes called to mediate certain behavior to help student understand what is at risk.

I strongly agree with this because I happened to have a child who is challenged when it comes to focusing. He makes very high standardized test grades but have a challenge with routine things.

The school administrators and teachers have worked with my husband and me to meet his needs. I believe he has grown a great deal and improved despite his learning challenge to focus.

We have had several meetings with the administrators and teachers to meet or son's learning needs. One teacher specifically encouraged us to work more closely with our son because he requires it and to not get caught up with " he is a middle school student he should be able to work independently" We appreciate him for paying attention and being on point. He also had the interest in our son and confidence to say to us "he needs a little more guidance".

The school's leadership is headed by a committed pastor, administrative team, and teachers who are committed to each individual student.

If you do your part as a parent and require your child to do the same each leadership team member will work with you to get the best for each studrnt.

Yes, the school develops strong character in its students like integrity, compassion and respect. If the student does not demonstrate the qualities they are disciplined and if no improvement they can be expelled from the school for certain behavior. Parents are involved and asked to work with the student to adhere the school's principles and policies.

As much as my husband and I may want something each teacher reinforces that fact that the student has to want it and be willing and do the work demonstrating and developing strong character through the time they are in the school.

Developing strong character in students like integrity, compassion and respect for yourself and others does prepare the way for an adult with those necessary qualities to succeed in life.

As parents we want a great deal for our children as sometimes the lines are blurred but the school's approach is the student has to do it for him or herself regardless to become a strong high school student and ultimately responsible adults.






































































































The school does develop persistence grit and determination in its students. The teachers work with the parents and they to ensure the highest potential of the students is brought out. Developing strong student is done in collaboration with parents to ensure students reach the highest potential.

Overall, I am very pleased with the fact that the school makes students work hard for their grades. I happen to have a child that is quite capable and if allowed would only do minimum work.

I am so appreciative of the teachers for pushing my son and making it clear they require him to work to his highest potential.

I like the fact that the school works hard to keep a balance with homework requirements while allowing time for family and friends.

The homework assignments seemed to be weaved well into everyday life as well. I find that the students are taught technical/relevant lessons from a fun and practical approach.

A parishioner whos children and grandchildren went to the school, said to me, " St. Augustine Elementary School is an hidden treasure" and it is. Given our son's social challenges when he came to the school in the first grade all of what has been shared below is of great significance.

Our son can now communicate and compete with students anywhere and I accredit it largely to the strong academic and well balanced education he is receiving. He is also capable of engaging us on relevant worldly issues and hold his own because of what he learned.

His father and I will often ask: Where did you learn these things? He responds " We discussed them in class (it could be any class)". Note he is usually right and always on point.

This is attributable to the effort to maintain and continue to build a strong academic team. It is impressive how the teachers work collaboratively and are all in their own right very strong and capable teachers.
The students are writing papers in Modern Language Association ( MLA) and American Psychological Association (APA) style in middle school.

I can not ignore, nor fell to mention the School's investment in the Performance Arts program bringing a committed knowledgeable music educator with a strong knowledge of the art, history and culture as well, that he effectively imparts to the students. Fortunately, our son is in position to benefit from this resource at the school.

What a student gets from being in the aftercare programs is also highly regarded, and definitely a large part of their rich academic and social development. Our son is enrolled in the academic enrichment programs as well as other activities to include but not limited to sports teams like fencing and basketball adding to his overall development. The Aftercare Program has equipped our son with basketball fundamentals which has given him a better understanding of the team aspect of the game.

We are deeply appreciative of the parent, teacher and administrator collaboration that has worked together to bring or son to a place where he is positioned to propel into successful future endeavors. St. Augustine School has been a valuable asset to him and our family.

I have had children in this school for 3 years. It is a decent school, and if it were a free public school I would rate it higher. I appreciate the academic push but there is a terrible lack of basic resources. If you visit their website it gives you insight to the very behind the times atmosphere of the school.

There was a massive turn over this school year which can be attributed to the child like behavior of the school administrators. There is gossip by adults, favoritism that effect the children and lack of professionalism. This is a place where only if you find a caring adult to advocate for your child they will have a fair chance.

The school has had two recent gas related incidents. One created sheer panic as parents were asked to come pick up their children and another where children stood outside in the cold for hours and parents learned at the end of the day what happened.

I originally thought the school was a great value but many catholic schools in the area have similar tuition rates. If you intend to register, do so with caution. I very much wish I had left last school year.

The teachers teach in such a manner that the child applies their new-found knowledge in every day life. I was preparing for a party and arranging things, and my then 5-year-old, says, "oh, you are making patterns" and proceeded to help me, actually keeping to the pattern I had started. I was so tickled!

My school has a religious foundation and family oriented. It has a very friendly and knowledgeable staff. The school has standard based curriculum and high testing scores. The students are very polite and respectful of each other and visitors.

What makes St. Augustine Catholic School unique is its nurturing, close-knit family environment. The curriculum pushes students to their optimal level and core values such as honesty, respect and responsibility are instilled in all students so that they have the "life-skills" to be future leaders of tommorrow. Overall, I am grateful that my daughter and son attend St. Augustine Catholic School because I'm certain that their educational experience will bring out the best in them and exceed expectations.

As a parent, I am so thankful to have found St. Augustine for my pre-schooler. Not only is the academic curriculum excellent, but also, and even more importantly, the environment is warm, caring and nurturing. I was looking for a school that teaches the basics like phonics and grammar, and yet is adept to our changing world. I found this at St. Augustine's Catholic School. The bonus is that the values, morals, consideration and love we are teaching our child is being reinforced and exemplified while she is in school. All this at a very reasonable tuition for what you and your child receive.

I am a high school student who graduated from St. Augustine a few years ago. I always found that the teachers were there to give me extra help when I needed it. I am now attending one of the best high schools in the city, and St. Augustine helped prepare me.

I am the parent of a St. Augustine School alumnus, and I also have a child who is a current student at the school. St. Augustine prepared my son for success in high school because when he had to take Algebra II as a high school freshman, he had already taken Algebra I at St. Augustine. My son is attending a very rigorous high school in DC, and St. Augustine effectively prepared him to do well.

The early childhood K-3 program at St. Augustine is absolutely rock solid and phenomenal. I don t know how Sister Gloria put together such a stellar team, but it is nothing short of brilliant. For those of you who have children in Mrs. McDonald s Pre-K and Miss Latney s Kindergarten; hold on to your hearts because you are in for a real educational treat. Here s how the early childhood journey goes. Mrs. McDonald s incredible talent nurtures confident babies who become literary, mathematical and scientific blue ribbon geniuses. Yes the babies can read, manipulate numbers and conduct experiments when they leave her nurturing class! Mrs. McDonald then delivers future blue ribbon students to the extraordinarily gifted Miss Latney in Kindergarten. Miss Latney puts on the finishing touches and delivers polished young intellectuals for a phenomenal hand off to Ms. Wilson s first grade! I am now super excited about the great possibilities of first grade and what s on the horizon for St. Augustine this year. I can hardly wait to see the prodigies that will unfold under Miss Wilson s tutelage.

I have three children who attend Saint Augustine in grades 1, 3, and 7th. I believe in Saint August Mission and I have confidence in the leadership of the Principal. However, some of the teachers are entrenched in their ways and are not willing to learn newer methods of teaching. What is lacking is motivation. The dullest moment at Saint Augustine is the Assembly. Its painfull to hear the students say the 'Hail Mary

I am bit shocked by some of the negative comments that have been posted. As with anything you get what you put in. If your child is willing to learn then they will succeed. But if you have parents (of which there are quite a few here) who take absolutely no repsonsibility for their child's behavior and leave it to rest on the shoulders of the teachers then you get the negative comments below. I have had children attending this school for the last three years. Yes there have been issues but when presented in the right arena (parent conference) and not the hallways in front of other children you get results. There are number of parents whom I only see when there is an issue and not when the school needs their support on the front end. What I would like to see is more scholarship funding given to the students whom are excelling than the children and parents who receive funding based on living in DC or economic status whom seem to be the source of the majority of the behavior issues. This past year my children had a phenomenal year academically...4th grade and Pre-K were excellent! My children were thoroughly challenged. Saint Augustine Catholic School was the worst decision we made with respect to educating our child. I must say, Sister Gloria is wonderful, however, she is just one person there and seems to be influenced by the teachers. The school has a high turnover ratio for the teaching staff. The teachers seem to be the very worst of the worst. It has been a nightmare for my family. The school is disorganized and the staff members are rude and dismissive. The school has a very severe bulling problem. The school has a policy which states: parents are not allowed to go to their child's classroom, nor are they allowed to converse with their child's teacher without permission from the school. I believe St. Augustine may have once been a very good school, but that is not the case now. The teacher's are ill-equip to handle the student's. St. Augustine teacher's are inexperienced, ghetto, and have no respect for parents. They enter grades and when you, as a concerned parent, question them, they become combative. Please spear yourself and your child(ren) the pain of despair and helplessness at this school.
