Great school with involved parents, teachers, and administrators.

They have an active anti-bullying focus and are proactive in working with kids facing emotional difficulties that might lead to bullying.

The school prioritizes a compassionate and friendly culture. It shows. my pre-k3 kid has many friends in the older grades 2-5. It's a wonderful environment for a little guy.

This school has outstanding teachers and a coherent teacher team. They clearly coordinate their approach.

Posted: April 3, 2017

They don't have homework in pre-k3 but they do actively involve parents in what their children are learning and how they can help.

My son is a pre-k3 student at J. O. Wilson. It is a really impressive school. Our teacher was exceptional and the school administrators are totally focused on instructional strategies and building an amazing school culture for the kids. I didn't realize how much our son would learn in Pre-k3, both academically and socially. Under the skilled guidance of his teachers, his classroom has developed a wonderful and supporting peer environment that I think have made a great impact as his first schooling experience. I believe it will stick with him for years to come. It's rare to find a school that is so deliberate in designing an instructional experience that nurtures children on multiple dimensions.

Homework is appropriate and helpful. JO gets it right.

JO is an amazing school. Our daughter started pre-k 3 this year, and she's learning everyday from her teachers and peers. The staff is well engaged, smart, and cares. We love the curriculum and the other parents. As DC residents we're lucky to have such a great in bounds school. Love the JO community.

If you're looking for a great school then its JO Wilson for its diversity, warm environment and education. They have countless programs and clubs for my children and the teachers and staff are awesome. They go above and beyond for their students and families. I love JO!

My child loves this school! She loves going to school and has made solid friendships and admires her teacher. She has excelled in her reading and has developed in her arts and crafts. The school is great and the new principal is a amazing, and is really focused on each student's success. Once you meet her you will understand...Go Cardinals!

Every year we are more pleased with JO Wilson. The new Principle is wonderful and the sense of community is unmatched. New enhancements to the curriculum and after school opportunities continue to expand., making JO Wilson a truly exceptional choice for our children.

JO Wilson is the hidden gem of Capitol Hill elementary schools. With faculty who are focused on the success of every child and a positive focus on learning, students excel. My second grader is reading well above her grade level and continues to thrive in math. Teachers have actively worked to keep her challenged and engaged, providing her (and her classmates) with new and innovative opportunities to learn more.

When I put my two children in JO Wilson 3 years ago, I knew instantly that there was something magical about that school. My kids moved to JO from a private international school and transitioned easily into the JO community. There are so many teachers there for whom teaching is a calling and not a job. They love our kids profoundly and give them much more than just classroom instruction. Our kids feel safe, loved and cherished as they move through the halls, state of the art dance studio, after school yoga and karate classes, world class playground and French after school club. JO continues to improve exponentially, and I am increasingly satisfied with the educational opportunities my children are receiving.

J. O. WILSON IS AN EXCELLENT SCHOOL WHERE CHILDREN ARE ALWAYS FIRST. A GREAT PLACE TO LEARN.

I have been a parent of the school for the last three years and I have nothing but great things to say. The teachers are motivated and exceptional and the parents are involved in every aspect of the school. I have seen much growth in the school as each years passes. I am excited to see what lies ahead. Great teachers make great students which make great communities.

We've been at J O Wilson since my son entered the PS-3 class and now he's in first grade. With each year, it seemed to get better. The parents that are involved in the PTA, continues to build a community in support of the children and families at the school. The teachers at the school are exceptional and I have seen such growth in my child.

I'm am a huge fan of this school! Initially, I was just passing though and expected to move my child to another school after PK based on one of the reviews, but it has grown so much since that time and continues to be an interactive, fun, community-based environment for me and a place where my child thrives and loves learning! I have had great experiences since we've been here; child is in K now. Love Ms. Moore and Ms. Casper!

My son has been a student at J.O. WIlson since he was 3 years old and he is now 7. I love that Wilson has teachers who are willing to go above and beyond to push the students to strive for excellence. My son is in the first grade reading at a third reading level. They have an excellent afterschool program, where they have to start or complete part of the homework assignments, extra curricular activities such as soccer, cheerleading, drama club, etc. I love the parent, teacher, staff and community partnership we have at J.O. Wilson. We are like a family here. I am excited about my 3 year old attending school here in August. I am sure it will a great experience as it is with my oldest.

Two of my children attend this school. My 5 year old is doing well with reading and math...he enjoys his teacher and class. My daughter is in the TAG 2nd grade program, she is being pushed (positively) and the results are good. It is a 8 out of 10 when rating other school experiences I have had previously in this area. (Maury ES, and Ludlow-Taylor ES)

We have been very impressed with J.O. Wilson's early childhood program. The Tools of the Mind Curriculum, a play based approach, is so much more then just play. Our son adores his teacher and we are very pleasantly surprised with his experience so far.

School is just ok!!!! Son is in pre-school and I had high hopes at the begining of the year, but the teacher, principal, curriculum, and paental involvement have left a lot to be desired and extinguished my excitement. In all fariness, I have seen some growth in my son's language skills and sense of independence, but just I'm not sure how much can be attributed to JO. In short, it's fine for pre-school and pre k, but i wouldn't keep my child there there beyond that point.

J. O. Wilson is a WONDERFUL school! Just WONDERFUL! My children are blossoming. They are self assured and proud. The staff are amazing. J.O. Wilson is a fantastic choice.

My son is in his second year at JO. There have been ups and downs but I see demonstrated growth in him and his friends.

I have been a volunteer at J.O. Wilson for at least 10 years. It has always been a good school. Now it's great--with dedicated teachers, a wonderful principal, energetic volunteers. And it has just been beautifully renovated! What a source of pride for everyone.

In a city where you re constantly inundated with horror stories about its public schools, JO Wilson has been a great surprise for my family. It is a great school! From the principal down to the teachers in the classroom, it is a cohesive community that works together in a friendly and positive environment. The school s principal, Ms. Warley is always working hard to improve the school and is accessible at all times. This school under the leadership of the principal is providing a great place to learn. I rate this school 10 out of 10!
