I appreciate the effort and dedication that goes into teaching a fourth-grade classroom. However, I believe there is room for improvement in supporting students who struggle with classwork.

I would encourage additional professional development focused on helping children who become overwhelmed or frustrated with their assignments. Every student learns differently, and when they encounter challenges, they benefit most from patience, encouragement, and positive guidance rather than feeling discouraged and being afraid to asked for help.

Building students' confidence is just as important as teaching the curriculum. More training in strategies for managing student frustration, providing emotional support, and adapting instruction to different learning styles could help create a more positive and supportive classroom environment where all students feel capable of succeeding.

My hope is that every child leaves the classroom feeling encouraged to learn, ask questions, and persevere through challenges.

My experience at DC Prep has been truly eye-opening. The school culture is driven by a strong mission that is evident in every detail—from the music playing as students enter, to the chants each homeroom sings during community meetings. I am grateful for the opportunity to be part of this experience.

My prepping has been at DC Prep Edgewood since 3rd grade. In the beginning there were challenges with him receiving proper support for his IEP. Beig new to the school and his teachers not really knowing what was in his IEP brought about a lot of disciplinary actions I didn't agree with. Once he transitioned to the Middle School the supports he received from the SpEd department improved...he has improved tremendously! Anytime I have a concern I can reach out to any of the staff. They are our community and they are like his extended family!

Special recognition to all the staff and faculty who are supporting my son as he makes the next step to high school. Special thanks to Ms. Moeller for all her guidance and feedback as my son goes through the high school application process for various Private, Parochial, and higher tier Public Charter High Schools in DC.

IÂ’m so pleased with the school for their academics and support to the preppies and parents. My children enjoy learning and feel safe at school. I like the communication from teachers and their general communication about safety issues. I recommend this school to all who are searching for a school that prepares their students for high school and college.

This school doesn't properly deal with bullying. They'll just tell the person to stop bullying and act like it's all fixed now. If you're already ahead of everyone and you've done your stuff, then they'll make you do what you already know as if it helps. You can't always go to the bathroom, which can be frustrating for children that actually have to go. Some kids can have bad mental health so they have bad performance in class, but the teachers will blame it on something else. If some kids live farther away from the school and can't get their parents to wake up earlier so they're late, they'll get detention when it's not their fault.

Posted: July 14, 2018

I attended this school a couple years ago. My experience was terrible. The expectations are set very high, and punishment for breaking these expectations is common. It felt like I was in prison; the faculty would send you to detention for something as simple as talking. The academics were great, but the terrible social culture of this school made me hate it. They make you walk on tiles on each side of the hallway. Talking during passing time is prohibited. Recess is only 15 minutes. The only part I enjoyed was the African Drumming class, because this school is predominately black.

I would recommend DC Prep to anyone looking for a quality education where your student will have the skills to compete with the best once in highest school and college. We no longer attend, because we moved. However, if we were still in the area, my daughter would be graduating from the 8th grade. Every teacher makes it their goal to engage and challenge the students, and push them to places that they thought they couldn't go. The school is strict, but this philosophy removes foolishness, and allows every moment of the day to be used for learning. Though we no longer attend, I tell all of my friends in DC that DC Prep is the place to choose if you want the best in education.

DC Prep is a wonderful school! The organization is supportive of its students, families, teachers, and administrators. DC Prep teachers work incredibly hard with the organization's supportive systems to help our students be successful not only at our school but BEYOND! It develops good hearts and good minds in its students. I currently teach there and will definitely be sending my own children there one day.

I enjoy working at DC Prep. When I first visited DC Prep I was very impressed. The student ambassador who took me on a tour of the school was very well spoken and really took a lot of pride in the school. When I began working for DC Prep in the fall of 2012, it was no different than what I saw when I had visited the school the first time. The students were very focused in their classes, the school culture was phenomenal, and the teachers were professionals and extremely knowledgeable. After 2 1/2 years, DC Prep continues to be the same school with even more improvements that I had experienced before. I love working at DC Prep from the students I serve everyday to their parents and my coworkers. DC Prep is truly the professional learning community they exude when you visit. This is an awesome place to work.

DC Prep Edgewood Middle provides a phenomenal foundation in character and academic education--providing students with the opportunity to develop pertinent skills, needed throughout their lives, during each aspect of the school day. The teachers go above and beyond to create a fun, engaging and rewarding environment for the students. The teachers and staff members genuinely care about each student's development, in and out of the classroom--making DC Prep an amazing place for everyone.

Some things I love about working here: - Continued professional development and feedback for teachers, no matter how long you've been in the classroom. - Staff members who are all incredibly dedicated and hardworking, and who like working together. - Families who are involved in what is going on in their child's education. Our Parent Action Team is an amazing resource for our school, and they do so much to support the work of our teachers.

DC Prep is an excellent school. The teachers are extremely dedicated and hard-working and are passionate about their students. The curriculum is rigorous and requires students to work very hard. Students who enjoy being challenged academically will thrive at DC Prep. The school has a very proactive school culture with high expectations for students. There are a lot of incentives for students who are on time, focused in class, completing homework and working hard. It is a terrific school all around!

DC Prep is committed to building the educational divide in Washington, DC and I am honored to be a part of such an amazing school with dedicated educators and students with an immeasurable desire to learn. Outsiders may see us as having unrealistic expectations for our preppies, but we don't want to create a world of mediocrity, but greatness. And to those people, i say, raise your expectations! Our preppies are students who will one day become presidents, doctors, educators, and leaders! I hope to one day send my own children to DC Prep. Thank you DC Prep for providing Washington, DC with a Decade of Raising the Bar!

My daughter is in the fourth grade at DC Prep EMC. She is the highest scoring student in her grade, as she was last year and the year before at DC Prep EEC. She loved EEC. She HATES EMC. It is not the curriculum or homework, which are great, or the dedication of the staff, which is considerable. It is the intense disciplinary environment. There are assigned seats at lunch. Talking is prohibited almost anywhere, including lunch at times. There are routine detentions for minor infractions, which would not even be infractions at any other school, and for things which the student has no control over, such as being tardy, as a way to punish the parents. This kind of pointless, unfair discipline does nothing but make her angry, as it would anyone. She thinks the teachers are picking on her and trying to find anything to punish her for because she is so well behaved. I tend to agree, especially since the Principal said at the beginning of the year that everyone would get consequences, so that they would learn to accept them and move on. The only moving on we will be doing is to another school. ASAP

DC Prep is doing really well with my neighbors kid. I think that schools such as DC Prep should have more campus.

My son has graduated from DC Prep and now attends McKinley Technology. The DC Prep teachers and their determination to reveal the excellence in each student is the reason I would recommend this school to anyone....

Posted: May 15, 2013

DC Prep is committed to academic excellence. Teachers care unconditionally about student success and leadership works hard to support and create lifelong teachers and learners. The school focuses on collaboration among teachers and works hard to create rigorous, engaging material and lessons that meet the needs of all students. It is an honor to work at such a school where parents, staff, and students care so deeply and are all invested in meeting the same goals.

Posted: May 8, 2013

DC Prep has one goal, to have its students succeed at the best area high schools and successfuly complete college. The teachers at the school pursue this goal relentlessly, most working 60 hours or more per week crafting the curriculum to ensure this is possible for every student. The result of this pursuit is an outstanding curriculum and results for students. In math, students achieve high test scores, but more importantly delve deeply into the process of math understanding. In reading and writing, students explore literature using supports that allow them to first meet and then exceed grade level expectations. In both reading and math, Prep Session classes allow students to work up to grade level or accelerate depending on their needs. In social studies, science, and specials, students receive hands-on instruction that allow students to really experience these subjects. This instruction, supported by an intense character education model allows all students to be ready for great high schools. DC Prep's only shortcoming is its singular focus on great high school success. Strict dedication to academic success is their focus. There is room for little else.

My school is unapologetically focused on improving the odds for DC Public School students. The teachers are determined to partner with families and motivate and influence students to develop strong academics and character. DC Prep provides a structured, loving environment that sets the stage for students to engage in high level learning. DC Prep has small group instruction so that students who are behind can catch up, and students who are ahead can increase their lead. As a teacher, I like that I am treated as a professional and pushed to constantly improve my instruction and the results of my students. My school could improve by continuing to share best practices so that more schools in the city can improve the future of their students.

DC PREP EMC is one of the best all around schools in this region. They have great leadership, very strong academics (as proven by the test scores), great staff and a group of students who are always eager to learn. DC PREP is a very challenging school. However, this is the type of school that can offer your child greater opportunities when the time comes to apply to high school. Also, by being encouraged to always Do The Right Thing, they build on very key social elements, such as character, integrity, values, respect for others as well as self. Love it! Love it! Love it!!!!

DC PREP is awesome. Yes its a lot of hard work academically, but in the end, you will appreciate the work and success of your child!
