Hope Community PCS - Tolson

This school was amazing. My kids both graduated from Tolson and they have still said to this day that Tolson still helps in there everyday schooling. Tolson is filled with a bunch of awesome teachers as well as a GREAT learning curriculum. I highly recommend this school for parents looking for a new school for their children.

This is my fourth year at Imagine Hope Community Charter School and I have two children who love the school. As a DC resident, I choose this school for many reasons. The staff is really connected and they encourage parents to get involved. I am active parent and volunteer often. All schools have things that they should work on but this school is moving in the right direction. The principal greets us most mornings and my children love the individualized help. Because this is a community based school, I am in it to win for my children. I give this school a high rating because of teacher commitment. There are a several parents who believe in the school. I really wish more parents would get involved. After all, it takes a village to raise a child.

This school was a bad choice for a middle school student. My child education was neglected, The teacher turnover was tremendous and your child will only receive acknowledgement if they are already above average. The prinicpal does not strive to allow the below average children to improve however, all students get good grades (which doesnt make sense) when time come to apply for high school they will be overlooked. This school is a Joke!

Imagine Hope Community Charter Tolson Campus. Please don't delete my post. I want to be informative to our community with my experience. I am a parent of a child who is no longer attending the school. At first you think this is such a great school because everyone seems so happy. You will soon find out that the school is filled with a lot of unhappy teachers & staff. Also the lack of teaching experience really shows. If it weren't for their curriculum which is very parent involved, the school would be worse. You should ask to see what kind of qualifications every teacher/assistant is required to have. There are good teachers and staff at Imagine that do really, really care about making a difference but from my experience the school as a whole is dissatisfactory and needs new leadership.

There was a post on here just recently and appeared that it was removed. While I don't agree with listing the teachers name, I will agree with the review. The school's administration is poor, there is a lack of communication. The teacher reported was a very poor reflection of the school. It's unfortunate that as a parent we make a review, and instead eliminating the names, the entire rating is removed. The fact is that the third grade teacher mentioned turned alot of parents away from the school. My child is no longer there(due to an incident reported that she hit a child in the mouth), and again she stayed in the classroom. The funny thing is that my child was not in her class, and how the administration handled the situation(as a parent) sealed the deal for me. Every parent should be aware of the good and the bad. Sometimes the bad outweighs the good, but it should still be reported so parents can make an informed decision.

The administration is poor. My son has been at HOPE for two years and requires Speech and Language Svcs. It took a whole year for him to receive the svcs. because of the bureaucracy there. This summer, he was supposed to be enrolled in the half-day summer program (to include 1 hr speech and language) and maybe 2 weeks in the program, we were told that due to some changes, he wasnt eligible for the half day program, just the 1 hour a week speech. I wanted an explanation, but couldnt get a concrete answer as if this was some mystery. I will be looking at other options in the coming year.

what a great school! the teachers are rigorous with their teaching! This school demands excellence in behavior and academics. The teachers in this school are hired because of their talent and the passion they bring to the classroom. The community that is seen in this school is real.
