The amount of growth I’ve observed during my child’s first year at JFEC has been nothing short of remarkable. Every day at pickup she exclaims “I had a great day!” and proceeds to tell me everything that she learned. Her vocabulary constantly surprises me and her general knowledge has grown leaps and bounds. They even have basic Latin instruction for the kids! She has also learned a lot about social behavior and how to interact with her new friends.

The facilites are new and beautifully maintained. They have two playgrounds and an indoor gym. Coming from a place with a less-than-stellar public school system, JFEC is hard to beat!

I feel very confident in the safety of my child at this school. Her teachers love her, the security staff is thorough and incredibly kind.

The only read downside is parking and the commute - both of which are worth it for the positive experience we’ve had at this school.

I searched for a school that was diverse and understood that education is the key to success. I found that in Francis Stevens. My daughter finished school reading above average and made new friends from different countries. I love this school and the staff. The security personnel is so great and make the kids feel safe and comfortable. They play music and tell the kids to have a great day. The kids are very respectful and are caring to each other.

This school by far is one of the worst schools in the District when dealing with bullying. Teacher engagement and an unapproachable principal. Please really evaluate all schools before selecting this one because people say it is good. It should be a good fit for your child. Absolutely “would NOT” send my child back here.

We have been at SWWFS for eight years and the school has felt like family since day one. The teachers are phenomenal and the admin works around the clock to take care of students, staff and families. We love that our kids can be in the same place from Pre-K through 8th grade. Principal Young is incredible and we are so lucky to have her.

This is a great elementary school starting at Pre-K 3, up to 8th grade. The school is run by great administrators and excellent, caring teachers. We recently moved to SF (mistake) and the quality of education at SWWFS in terms of what it offers is much better. The school strives for academic excellence and has prioritized anti-bullying measures. School offers Latin classes, even at a young age, and and also cooking and gardening classes in the Jose Andres-designed kitchen. Afterschool sports are also offered and the aftercare program is great (Chinese & Spanish, art, martial arts, etc.). It have a diverse community of students which further enriching. The school has a number of great academic extracurricular celebrations (Science Day, Reading, etc.). The PTA is also a wonderful in that it fosters a close community in looking out for the students' best interest.

My second grader has Math and reading homework every night. Her teacher is amazing. Her reading and math abilities soared after we finally left another DCPS school for FS. Homework is consistent and toughly graded.

The teachers are all well educated and culturally aware. I have 2 students and both teachers are amazing leaders who teach the curriculum but also relevant social behaviors and good discipline. My daughter also works with another teacher who offers Math tutoring twice a week who is very effective.

Yes, yes, yes. The school is very diverse with a large international presence so these values are thoroughly engrained in everything the students do, every day.

Though the principal oversees both FS and the SWW High School, he has a team of very involved and proactive supporting his mission and objectives, this includes the Assistant Principal who is very hands on.

The school has special courses and instructors for students with developmental and physical needs including wheel chair bound and blind students from what I can see.

My kids are young PK-4 and 2nd grade so we haven’t faced any bullying issues yet thankfully. I’m not sure what goes on in the upper grades. But from what I can tell staff do not tolerate any type of bullying or insensitive comments from students, even among each other at lunch or recess.

The worst experience of my three children’s educational experience. I have one that just graduated college, another in 11th grade and My youngest who is now in 7th grade. Trying to get him safe here was a full-time job. And trust me we have seen many schools in America. My ex-husband was a Major League Baseball player and I was an NFL cheerleader we traveled to many cities with our children and put them in different public schools throughout our careers, nothing ever and as traumatic and mean/cruel as we experienced at school with walls at Francis Stevens

The math teacher never told me my son math homework till the end of the year and it was too late. My son is autistic and didn’t understand what she was telling him about how to check for homework online, she never helped and gave him a complete 0 for an end of the year assignment he had worked hard on, nit a “F” not a D or any other grade a complete F. This school lack empathy and caring adults.

Teachers at this school are mostly rough or timid no sweet articulate in between. They let the bullies rule the school.

The children run around face punching students with special needs after they are told not to. I know it happened to my son in his Latin class. I recorded the Latin teacher telling me, I was so upset. It was a very bizarre terrible traumatic experience for us. My only ability to keep my son safe was to remove him from the school, that was when he started doing well and going from F’s to A’s. the principal retaliated hard on me for complaining to the school board and failed my son even though he had left and worked hard to bring up all his grades.

The nightmare of my life. It happened often I have much evidence and no matter what they deny it happened and won’t deal with it. I had to leave the school blocks near my house and pay so much money to get my child to a school 30 minutes away because they refuse to help, instead they hurt, insult, attack and cause more damage.

My son is in PK-4 and he already knows how to write his name, wants to constantly write something, knows how to count up to 30, solves basic math problems (eg 5+5=10; 6-1=5; comparison of numbers). But the best part is that he loves it and he loves his teachers and classmates. His teachers have been really effective at teaching him basic skills but also respect for self and others.

The principal just projects confidence. He’s also running the high school and has done so much to improve the environment and results at this school in just 6 years since the decision to keep the school open.

I am a student at Swwfs and I love this school! The students and staff are friendly ,caring ,and professional. The academics are challenging (in a great way) and teachers always make sure students understand topics to there best ability .the home work level is good and it's always is on topic . I enjoy going on field trips and taking abvantage of all this wounderful school has to offer. Swwfs gives students opportunitys that not meny schools in America have it also prepares the student for further education and life. I strongly recommend this school!!!!

I really like this school. My kids are coming from Kipp where they was not being tested but handed homework everyday. It took for me to put my children in SF, to see improvement in reading, math and etc. Both children are on the grade level. Both children love going on field trips, having different races in their school and loving the fact they can speak another language. I am a proud tiger parent.

I had great hopes when my niece enrolled, but as of late, my hopes have been dashed. She has been relentlessly bullied for the better part of the school year and the administration has failed to discipline her tormentors. Although the Principal has reiterated numerous times that there is a zero tolerance policy on bullying, no action has been taken. If bullying isn't a problem for you, then Francis Stevens is the school for your child.

The parent body rallied and collaborated with local organizations and leaders to save this Foggy Bottom elementary school during the 2012-2013 school year. It was an inspiration to watch this unity unfold and thus I have moved my 4th and 2nd grader from Ross Elementary here after many conversations with current parents and administration. With no option for Ross students to move on to a viable middle school, Walls @FS offers a solid vision and plan of execution to build a strong elementary and middle school that will no doubt prepare students to test into SWW High School. The majority of staff is new, stellar and coming from across the US from private, public and charters schools. The looping program is a unique opportunity for students, parents and staff to build relationships with each over the course of two years and maximize instruction. A brand new instructional book room allows teachers to access resources for all student levels and thus meeting the individual students learning level. A partnership with the YMCA on campus is building a strong aftercare program that includes basketball, lacrosse and a variety of other opportunities for all student interests.

Despite the small enrollment our parents, teachers, and community rallied together to make amazing and creative proposals to save the school from the threat of closure. This public school offers kids with low vision and blind students up to 7 hours of vision education and access services a week compared to the typical 30 minutes previously available when the vision teachers travelled all over the district to serve the visually impaired students. As a result of our efforts we have found ourselves reorganized into a pre-K to High School enterprise joined with a local high school that is simply amazing. The new administration is devoted to making the entire lower grades into the equivalent of a college preparatory school to ensure success from pre-K onward to include a dedication to latin, music, art, computer literacy, and physical education all incorporating access to all and diversity. I am proud to be a member of this school community and know that each one of these kids and their families are winners in the best way you could ever define a winner.

The School Without Walls administration has done a great job hiring excellent teachers, staff and leadership for SY13-14. The parent group is highly engaged and committed to a high quality educational environment.
