The first day I took my son to his classroom, I explained to his first year teacher that he was ADHD with ODD. In his documents I put the same thing. Had been asking for an IEP or 504 plan for months and my son would just be getting write ups for everything. Granted my son is extremely smart but he gets frustrated and angry when he doesn't understand something, gets frustrated, or feel like he's being picked on. No one heard me until October and FINALLY decided to give me what I was looking for which was a 504 plan. Even with that they still kept writing him up and IDK what they were actually doing to help him seems as though this school did not support his needs. Then in the last month in a half the before school director writes him up every monday as if he was trying to get rid of him in the program. These schools know that write ups travel with students from school to school and I feel like they wanted to give him a bad rap sheet. This school needs to do better when it comes to special needs children. Doin't look past them and rule them as bad kids. I do not like this school. I'm very involved in my sons life and school but this school I'm over it. If it was the end of the school year I'd send him to another school.

Brookview is a decent school that shows a lot of potential. They require new leadership. Having a principal who does not act like a power-hungry witch is a great way to improve.

Homework is pretty standard and subpar, they are in Duval County. Low expectations.

Teachers at Brookview allow their students to sit on desks in class and act buddy-buddy with children. Most try too hard to come across as "cool" and cross over to creepy and desperate.

The principal is a lackluster adminstrator who believes in using intimidation to get results. Teachers within the principal's clique are allowed to get away with unprofessional behavior.

Students with learning disabilities or language barriers are given free passes. They barely meet standards.

The principal, herself, bullies others. The school ignores even the most obvious cases of bullying.

Unfortunately we are only 3 months in and it's awful. Wish I could get my child in a charter school but they don't offer transportation so it is impossible for someone who has a regular 9-5 job to transport their child to a better school. I will be moving specifically to get my child out of this school next summer

There is nothing good I can say about this school. My student is in the 3rd grade. His reading teacher is inappropriate and they do not teach spelling at this school past the second grade. When I asked to remove him from the teachers class that sent home completely inappropriate assignments for a child his age I was told it was impossible because they already have 22 children per class, which is much higher that what is reported on this site. Can't wait to move and take my child out of this school before they dumb him up. We came from an excellent school system in Loudoun County VA and everything from the way this school looks like a dump on the outside to the professionalism of the staff and principal is poorly lacking.

Reading teacher sent home an assignment with my 8 year old asking his thoughts on the tragic events of 911 and his thoughts on the death penalty....seriously as a school system they HAVE to do better

My son has ADHD causing some behavioral issues, and they had no idea how to help him. They gave up quickly, and made that obvious. He had to be sent to a different school where he began thriving on the first day.

When my son would complain of being bullied, he would be reprimanded for leaving the line or talking out loud in class. He was prejudged because if his own behavior issues and told right in front of me the staff did not believe him by saying "well, no one saw that", "you're the only one saying that",or "so..he hit you for no reason?" sarcastically.

I only met the principal once and that was at a meeting where my son was transferred to another school. She gave no input in the meeting at all of course (just sat quietly eating peanuts), and the vice principal whom I primarily dealt with was not present..made no sense. My son had many behavioral issues. Mrs. Sclafani would ask ME "should he have detention?" Then they'd say "it would suck for us to stay after, but we will if you'd like him to have detention" (the guidance counselor said this to me once as well). I felt they were inserting guilt so I'd say no and they didn't have to stay. Why ask me anyway? That's not my job to determine. At some point I was called on his first offense of any kind to pick him up, as early as 9am, and once by Mrs. Sclafani just because a substitute teacher was present..he hadn't done anything at all yet.

My son's teacher Mrs. Meloni was great, but that was luck. The leadership staff is lazy and bias. My son felt chastised, outcasted, and bullied at this school.

My daughter had 2 1/2 hours of homework a night in 4th grade. My view is if you teach them in the classroom they shouldn't need homework.

They reward some students and make others feel like dirt by parading around their "special" students. There was a time this year when they set the "good" kids on stage in the lunch room and served them hot pizza while the others had to eat Obama lunches.

There is no communication from the teachers. Teachers are nasty to parents as is the administration. My child has been told that she had her hair pulled because she is a drama queen like her mother. This came from a 4th grade teacher. These women are horrid people. The school is crawling with roaches as well and smells like mold. Worst school EVER! I miss the Northern states.

I love this school! The teachers are awesome they are determined to have the children achieve their goals, actually achieve beyond their goals. They thrive to help the children learn in every way possible. The principal mrs.adams is totaly awesome she is always very active within the school. She was the first principal to ever take the children to a end of the year trip. She took over 400 3rd, 4th,and 5th graders to lego land in 2013-2014 school year. She funded the trip parents only paid $10 for a shirt and lunch. She also did a beach day with the 5th graders. My children have no complaints about anything within the school. One of my kids had an issue of being bullied and the teachers and the principal quickly put a stop to it and was on the phone daily giving me a report about it.I attended this school myself from k-5 and the school is just progressing with greatness

Brookview has some of the hardest working teachers. They work hard to ensure that students excel academically. The principal has many incentives to encourage students to work hard. My child worked very hard to get into the Lego Land trip. She actually took over 400 students to Lego Land as an incentive and we only had to pay $10.00 for a shirt and lunch. The kids were well behaved and they will do anything for her. My child's teacher and principal are household names.

I loved Brookview. I attended 1st thru 4th back in ( ok get ready for this ) 1979!!! Lol...I would love to hear more or hear from anyone who has ties to the school as far back as I do. Keep up the good work( students and staff )
