Got bullied in 6th grade by a group of girls and they put me in the same room as them with the former assistant principal to make us "talk it out", thinking that'll work. Afterwards, The bullying escalated in many ways until 8th grade when I moved to another school. Never spoke up about it because I felt I'd be not taken seriously and invalidated, or how I've been treated didn't pass as 'real' bullying. My mental health became much worse since then, and no matter how much I think I've healed from this situation, I'll always feel like I'm a burden in my friendships or everyone is out to get and hurt me. This wasn't just 'drama' between teenage girls, it's a systematic failure by the people who were supposed to protect me. During my school days there, I've seen kids getting specifically targeted in classrooms and the teachers seem completely apathetic or act like nothing's happening, leaving the victim to fend for themselves in an environment that's supposed to make them feel welcome.. I'm speaking up because I've seen a pattern. Not only was my situation handled ineffectively,, I've also noticed that neurodivergent students are being bullied while the teachers remain indifferent. A school cannot claim to be inclusive while it's most bullied students are being bullied without any intervention. For parents who want to enroll their children into this school, be aware that their 'conflict resolution' and bullying policy is ineffective and the staff's indifference towards bullying is a serious safety concern. Nobody should feel like they're a burden or easy target. Nobody should feel the way I did.

The institution falls short of expectations and is not fit for recommendation. Leadership is ineffective and lacks transparency. The school doesn't prioritize student welfare, as seen in the inadequate response to bullying issues.

The safety at this school is horrible, some of the teachers do their own things and let the students do anything, the rules are very strict because one of the rules are: if you get your phone taken away and they break it, its "not their fault", there was a couple fights, some teachers just accuse students even though they did nothing, if I had a choice, I would've never came to this school

This school is by far the worst I’ve ever seen. The Dean allows bullying and favors children who play sports. The children bullying the others usually go without consequence. They have no support for children dealing with those issues. I’m trying to heal the emotional damage this school caused my child because of the bullying and lack of support offered to my child. The school rarely has teachers and usually have substitutes that allow the kids to talk or use their phone. This learning environment is not conducive to children’s growth mentality and emotionally. I would seriously recommend that you send your child to another school.

I went to Twin lakes last year and graduated this year. I am returning (most likely) as a volunteer to help my favorite teacher of 8th grade science. Some of the teachers value your childs education, the school is simple, and the administration values their work for the most part. I reccomend this school because it has good teachers, but please, please support your children if they receive an unfair/bad teacher, struggle in a class, etc. It isnt their faults, half the time its the teacher.
Twin lakes has an issue with acceptance, helping students, and making one feel safe. So, please, teach your child to step in when needed and advocate for friends, strangers, and all the above for the good of someone else, because chances are someone might not do it. Change can happen at any school or society, one child and person at a time :D

My son has attended this school for two years. I understand all middle schools can be wild at times but this one is a mess.
The administration is a joke. It took the school district stepping in to fix scheduling issues over halfway through the first nine weeks this year. They 'lost' my son at one point. The principal did not attend Orientation, Open House, or the Eighth Grade Information Meeting. I haven't seen her once this year. The AP lies to parents faces or avoids them all together. The Dean openly favors sports oriented students over others.
Bullying is a massive unaddressed problem. From name calling to physical altercations to threats of sexual assault. Nothing is done by administration.
The teachers are a mixed bag. Some are very good, yet the ones who are not know they can get away with a lot since administration is weak.

All you get from the administration is the runaround. Mr. story when you talk to him he just keeps saying no but you have 30 days left of school. Teachers blow whistle’s. They write rude comments to the parents. Literally this has been one of the worst years out of the three that we’ve been there. Teachers have just given up I recommend if you want to send your kid to a good school this is not one.

I go to this school, none of it is anything special. I hate it there. But only a few of the teachers actually make it enjoyable, and for that i thank them. But for the rest of the school it sucks.

My son has had an IEP for many years, we are in the second half of the second semester and my son has yet to receive 1 day of speech therapy. There are fights in the way overcrowded hallways every day. Bullying happens in front of teachers and nothing is resolved. Most of the football players bully and hit people but never get in trouble and are still on the team. In 40 minute classes, the first ten minutes is getting settled, last ten minutes is getting ready to go, so your child is getting 20 minutes of instruction that is mostly spent on reprimanding other childrens' behavior. Teachers are so overwhelmed grades can be months late being submitted, even if the child reminds them weekly. Kids are having sex, smoking, drinking & vandalizing the bathrooms. Since they can't contain the students they only allow children to use the restroom 9 times a semester. They have literally made a little girl bleed on herself in class because they feel its right to control the bodily functions of children.

Older student bully younger students and the older students get less punishment. When you make the administrators aware of bullying issues all they can do is tell you how many kids they have and that they can’t control everything.

Posted: April 27, 2018

Terrible horrible awful horrendous inefficient useless lacking in accountability and common sense

Posted: April 27, 2018

Posted: April 27, 2018

The teachers have no control over the classrooms or the students.

Posted: April 27, 2018

The students at this school constantly fight and the most administrators do is issue no contact orders which doesn’t aid in resolving the problem.

Posted: April 27, 2018

They generally have no idea what’s going on and no effective approach to resolving problems.

My daughter is heading into her second year at TLAM as a 7th grader. We could not be more impressed. Her transition last year into middle school could not have been better. The Leadership team is phenomenal. I think what I appreciate the most is how the faculty and staff strives to provide balance across academics, athletics, arts and activities to develop the whole student. There is something for every student at TLAM and considerable success to be had from college credits to city championships. They strive to prepare the student for high school, but the supportive environment in a uniquely diverse setting goes a long way to preparing them for life

Most teachers do not care. Flanagan is the worst. She got removed fro her history class bc parents were complaining about her teaching and failing all her students. She does not care and failed students in critical thinking. No one learns anything in any of her classes.

There are repeat offenders in the school and aren't held accountable for their actions bc the facility doesn't care!! Too many kids being bullied!

Posted: June 23, 2017

Bad just bad. Very disappointed. Got zero help from principal, vice principal, dean of students, school counselor. If you can afford private school, do it.

Posted: June 23, 2017

Teachers could care less if students do their homework or not. Quick to give a zero or an F without asking why or where the work is or if there's anything wrong with the student. Judge students, not willing to get to know them.

Posted: February 16, 2017

My daughter was assaulted at the school and the administration handled it horribly. They were hostile. They admitted they could not protected my daughter from it happening again. A boy grabbed her breast in PE class. Due to the size of the classes and the lack of cameras, they not only could not protect the girls, but the principal was rude, hostile, and confrontational when I (parent) was upset about what happened. They don't care and they have done nothing to resolve it to protect our girls. If you have a daughter do not send her here. It's dangerous and the principal & some staff promote a boys will be boys attitude about girls safety. My daughter was deprived of both her athletic classes due to the schools inability to protect her & other girls. They've done nothing to correct the situation. They haven't added staff nor cameras to the PE areas. They don't care about the girls safety.

If you are reading reviews to go this school then you should because it is a great school. My teachers which I am in Honor/Gifted classes are amazing and they give you a at home atmosphere. If your in the other teams I am not that educated about them but they do teach you they just might be not as nice as mines. 6th grade would be a breeze and 7th you learn a lot more and school gets to be more work but it is just because they want you to fully understand the concept. As for bullying and fights, bullyin can be handled by telling the guidance counselor or the people in student services and we had less then 5 fights for the past two years I have been enrolled and the staff broke up the fight as soon as possible. this school might not be like the best school but it is a good school compared to others.

This school is not a school that I would ever send a student to. They are NOT an " A " school ... they might think they are but they aren't. Our son went there for 2 years too many... He learned nothing. He was jumped by another kid at school and the administration just stood over them and did nothing. They are not capable of being honest with parents and as far as communication goes you can forget that also. The teachers are out of control as are the students. They run the school like a jail and do not allow the students to learn any social skills by keeping them locked up in the lunchroom at tables . They do not allow the students to go outside and enjoy the wonderful Florida weather. The only good thing that we got from this school is AWAY FROM IT !!!!!!!!!!!! I wish that I would of been able to do more looking before I enrolled our son to this environment . It did more harm to his learning then it did good. I warn you as a parent DON'T ENROLL YOUR CHILD TO THIS SCHOOL . Don't trust your child with the adults of this school. There were more fights at this school then I have ever seen in any other school. Our son was terrified most days because of all the fights in the halls.

I really do love this school. I went here for 2 years (6th and 7th). And so upset i have to leave it this 8th grade year. I've meet some of the nicest teachers here that mean the world to me. But most of them annoy me and don't know what they are doing. Other than that its pretty amazing. (:

This was the worst schoo l iever been too. I got bullied and the teachers or principal are no help at all when it comes to that. 6th grade was awful. It was the most ghettoest trashed school ive ever been too. It deserves to be burned down.
