If you are looking for a school that will treat your children like their own this might be a place for your family. The families, teachers and staff are a family.

I love somerset arts academy. My daughter attended here for kindergarten and she loved it. It was during the worst time given that Covid 19 was out of control but the school manage to offer the students a great academic experience. We moved from Homestead and sadly we had to transfer but I would recommend this school 100%.

Somerset City Arts is a great gem in the community. This is a great program that develops a child's interest in learning. I have found the staff to be dedicated, involved, and supportive. The school is lacking in parent participation overall, but there ARE opportunities to participate if you desire to do so. A great learning environment, should be at the top of your choices for a school for your kids.

My 6 children have all attended Somerset City Arts since the second year it was open! Honestly, taking them out of public school to come here was one of the best decisions we made. The staff and teachers are all so loving, and it is a safe and fun environment for the kids! Everything is planned with their their best interest in mind. I recommend them 100%

ItÂ’s a wonderfully safe small school. The teachers, staff, and administration at Somerset City Arts are top-notch.
They create a wonderful learning environment for the kids and there are always activities available for the kids and family to participate in. There are many programs available to the students after school such as Lego club, Choir, Art club, STEM club, and others. Most staff are spanish speaking as well.
My kid has flourished at Somerset City Arts and we could not be happier!

Coming from a small private school, I really felt like they did everything to bring my daughter up to grade level. Unfortunately she wasn't getting as in depth an education in private school, but now she is catching up.

Horrible. My daughter has a disability and has numerous doctors appointments which are validated through notes provided the next school day, and she has been treated to blame for it. We've encountered so many problems at this school. During a show one year, my husband almost got into a fight with a teacher which is a long story. However when my husband brought it up to the principal it was swept under the rug. I would not suggest this school at all. My daughter would come home with homework that she hadn't even learned, and was provided no textbooks TO learn on her own. I get daily text messages notifying me that events are canceled the DAY of an HOUR before school lets out. And it won't be due to weather!otherwise I could understand that!

I haven't heard any story of bullying.

Students patrol program, students associations, peer tutoring, artistic performance are programs that help to develop leadership and this school has that and other ones.

Posted: January 11, 2017

MY kids went to a public school where always was a complaint but with this school, they are in love, always show respect to their peers, my oldest daughter have a friend who is deaf and neither the teacher nor the students treat the deaf student different.

Posted: January 11, 2017

Always are in touch with parents about homework and activities.

My kids go to this school, is little but warm. My girls are in love with the school and their teachers, don't want to be absent. A lot of activities keep students doing different things, promote good grades and teacher are always responding messages. Diversity is a most!! My kids will stay another year in this school.

My child attended this school. It was the worst school by far. My child was physically ill from the stress of being bullied by students, staff, and the overall negative atmosphere. The teachers & administration seem very poorly educated and offer children no knowledge or wisdom that isn't in a textbook. The principal herself is a bully and her office staff. The teachers are very disrespectful to the children, make fun of them and can be psychologically abusive. My daughter did love one teacher, but she is no longer there. As far as this area is concerned, I would place my child into a private school with the scholarship from the state but definitely none of these charter schools.

Posted: January 19, 2016

Bulling is accepted from teachers and children, some staff is rude and are not a perfect rode model for kids.

Posted: January 19, 2016

This use to be an average school in the area but the situation has changed. The parents are acepted in the school at all time it looks like a parede. No security measures at all, the bathrooms are close to the exits and the kids just get in and out without teachers supervition. The saddest part is that bulling is accepted in this school starting from the teacher, some of them are super rude they even use inappropriate words to call the kids. the academic standards are not the bes my kid is a exellent and well behaved kid and they really do not challenge him. Not a good school!! If you want your children to learn.

Posted: October 25, 2014

PLEASE make sure you pay attention if your child is unhappy with the teacher...emotional abuse happens... I can deal with cramped rooms and rude staff but not abuse. Listen to your kids if you go here.

Parents I took my daughter out of Sommerset and put her in kindergarten at Avocado Elementary. All the classrooms are spacious and have bathrooms. It's only goes up the 3rd grade. They are building a new playground and remodeling school. It's a excellent school with wonderful teachers. Bring your children to Avocado and you will be very happy. I researched all the schools in the area and Avocado is the best one.

I had my daughter transferred into this school 2 years ago. Not what we thought. As far as it being an "arts" school it is not. Mrs. Wood does a wonderful job with the shows for the school but that is as far as "arts" goes. Most of the time they do not even have art, music, or PE. From May-June my daughter had no art, music, or Spanish class. The classrooms are small, cramped, and over crowded. The office personal is rude and they are disorganized and that is being polite. The principals heart is in the right place but not so much her mind. Bullying is an issue which is often swept under the rug. There are a few good teachers but some just don't care and you can tell. If you look on youtube for their FCAT video notice how the video is centered on the teachers and not the children. Makes no sense to me.

My child was here for 5 years. Unfortunately, this school is on the decline. They are struggling to improve scores and do so by threatening to take away music and PE for the kids. Rely too heavily on Reading Plus. Reading an actual book would serve the kids better. Like other parents mentioned, it's cliquey. OMG is it cliquey. The cheer thing is out of control. Not really an arts school. They do a couple of school performances, but there is no "focus on the arts" unless you want to pay for the expensive after school programs...then you can have all the arts you want. Should have left last year, but am glad to be going now.

My child started since kinder and the teachers are nice. Most of the teachers are good with the exception of the Spanish teacher they now have. It seems his way of teaching is just to have the kids watch TV. He has them watching this program called POCOYO. Kids have told me this teacher is eccentric. I do like the school and most of it's staff, I would make a suggestion here and there. 1st I do not think the school should have Arts in its name since 97% of the programs it calls ARTS PROGRAM are after school and you have to pay. The kids are left with Spanish class which the teacher 99% of the time has them watching TV. I do not see why he is there. The 2 other programs which are also after school are drama and choir. The choir and drama teachers are good with the kids especially Miss Wood she is awesome. I will be looking into a new real Arts school that has opened up for 2014 for my child. They do offer ARTS PROGRAM during the school hours and after school. Miami Arts School if any 1 is interested.

It's an OK school but very, very cliquish among parents (and teachers. The moment you walk in, they are all whispering to each other. Very uncomfortable to say the least.

The school has a lot of positives, however the problem remains with the size and facility. My kindergardner was falling behind due to some learning disabilities and was to be going through some therapy, but after 4 months when I asked for the records I was told a very different story. Our Kindergardner also was on a playground with 1st and 2nd graders for 10 minutes allowing some bullying to happen. My 1st grader was very bord and should have been in an advanced class. When I approached the school about his development, and how bord he was the response was there is nothing we can do for him, and he is right where he needs to be. Deciding to pull him and have him tested with the homeschool Iowa testing, he was in his 3rd grade, 3rd month year! No wonder...two very different stories and one school. The teachers and principal were wonderful as the parent involvement, my issue is the education system as a whole and the schools hands are tied due to money, facility size and staff (lacking regular tutoring or speech without paying $25+ hr)!

This is the best free school in Homestead. We normally homeschool, and so it was an experiment to put two of our kids at Somerset this past year. I was not happy about some things - performances like the Christmas show sell out and then if you don't have a ticket, you can't see your kid perform; they try to sell you your child's framed art for $30; way too much emphasis on fundraising in general, with pep rallies to bribe the kids with trips and limo rides; and a LOT of typos and grammatical errors in homework and even instructional handouts :/ However - the teacher/student ratios are excellent; teachers REALLY love the kids and are very accessible to talk to, and go very above and beyond; the kids get a full 30 minutes to eat lunch; and they play outside every day. This school really tries to challenge gifted kids and REALLY goes above and beyond to help those who are behind, so that they catch up. There is too much FCAT emphasis, but there's no way around that at any public school in Florida, unfortunately. At least at Somerset the kids still have art and music. There's also a GREAT array of after school clubs and activities, especially for a small charter school :)

I've been a parent at this school for 4 years now and have 2 children attending. I love the quality of education my children are getting. The academics stressed but not at the expense of the other subjuect areas. PE, Art, Music and Spanish are still a large part of the daily routine. I feel that is important in a well rounded education. I've never seen a group of teachers that are more dedicated and happy. It really is a positive learning environment.

This school offers the most state of the art, non traditional, high tech learning environment in our area. THIS SCHOOL IS, BY FAR, THE BEST IN THE AREA! Because it is a charter school, the administration has the authority to spend money where they see the need instead of bureaucrats dictating where funds should be spent. As a result, each child has their own laptop while at school, no heavy school books to carry around, and every single staff member from the principal to the cleaning personell know the children by name. Excellent teachers, an amazing principal, and support staff unlike any other school in the area. Also,FINALLY, parent involvement is welcomed

This is a great school!!!!!!!!! I Highly recommend it. Lots of technology. Caring and compassionate staff. Everyone is willing to assist in anything they can.

I have had a wonderful experience with Somerset City Arts. My children love their teachers, the small setting of the school, and the technology they get to use in class. I feel that their teachers are caring and compasionate, and the staff has always been respectful to me. I am also pleased with the amount of parent involvement that is asked for by the teachers. As far as the use of technolgoy in the classroom, I think the teachers do an amazing job using their resources to make learning exciting, fun and give it a "real word" experience. The teachers not only focus on academics but they promote good character behavior for their students. As a parent, I am not only thrilled with my children's academic success (their SAT/ FCAT grades), but congratulations to Mrs. Suarez and the entire staff for being an "A" school! Keep up the good work.
