The experience at this school is fine, like any other school it has events that will indeed build your character and morals. I won't say it's the best but it isn't the worst. The family engagement isn't there as much as it should be during the 2025-2026 school year the amount of time I was there , there was no family engagement.

My second child graduates from Gateway this year after attending since Pre-K. I have been blessed with wonderful experiences year after year with the amazing teachers they both have had. Teachers that not only teach, but care for their students. The accelerated classes offered gave my oldest child the classes she needed for the opportunity to attend and graduate from Coral Reef. Free tutoring too!

Today there was a LOCKDOWN, which was a total hoax. This has happened before, and there was even threats back in 2017, which were on 7news and other credible sources. Some idiot made a hoax about an innocent kid. And now to the school. Kids do a lot of stuff they shouldn't, its better than before, for sure, they get punished. But the security is very off, most of them yell and yell and yell when its running and shoving, pushing, all that stuff. But yelling doesn't do anything to middle schoolers. We are in 2025, stern talks & detentions don't teach lessons anymore. So they resort to screaming their lungs out like some hogs. Only like 2 of the securities of the school are nice. And the janitors are.. janitors, nothing really bad about them. The teachers are definitely great though, however, "Mr. Aragu", lead Music teacher for Elementary, is a disrespectful old man who should retire already. Screams at students for no reason, and kicked someone out for DOING THEIR WORK. Not to mention, I got C's & B's in that class because HE FELT LIKE IT. I do my work and get all the questions right, yet he grades them wrongly so. The reading, mathematics, science, art, & PE coaches & teachers are great in my experience. I do think that the security, some teachers, and DEFINITELY whoever watches the kids in the cafeteria should be further looked into. The cafeteria has problems everyday, the securities are sometimes rude, and they make you sit alone if you standup, but don't do anything about the kids putting someone in a headlock. You have to miss 10 minutes of lunch everyday because the 2nd graders who sit at our table don't get picked up until 11:45, keep in mind, they're supposed to LEAVE at 11:30. And we are not permitted to sit down until the janitors CLEAN the ABSOLUTE HOT MESS they MADE. The kids curse up a storm with no punishment in the stairs, and they yell and scream, Spanish class is horrible. Throwing chairs, and the teacher only threatens to take them off the Recess list for the week. I think they should instantly get written up personally, its a better lesson-teacher (if that is a terminology that can be used in this way). And then, they take off OUR end-of-the-year field trip, because of THEM. Not to mention theres 2 other classes, so that weighs all the good students down, its 20% doing the right thing in our grade. So WE take the fall and have to suffer without our fun stuff, except theres a solution, good students will get fun days!

My daughter attended this school. She /we had a wonderful experience here. The teachers are excellent! They care about the students. They have a Christmas show every year which is phenomenal. They have after school clubs that my daughter enjoyed, and they are still available for current students. Even though it is a C school I can see that everyone is working really hard to make it a B or better school. I would really recommend this school.

My son receives special services, and weÂ’ve had such a great experience here. Ms. Bailey has been wonderful. She's so patient, caring, and always encouraging. SheÂ’s really helped my son grow and gain confidence. This process has not been easy but the teachers are very understanding and supportive, and they do everything they can to help him succeed. I highly recommend this school as the charter school before did not want to help him and basically encouraged us to leave. I am glad they did! This has been very eye opening and of great benefit to him. Do not be fooled at these charter schools, they do not care to help them grow unlike this school that really cares!

I went to Gateway K-8 for middle school, and it was honestly a really good experience. The teachers there really care and go out of their way to help you. They even stay after school for free tutoring and push you to do your best in a good way.

I wasnÂ’t the best at math back then, but thanks to how my teachers supported and challenged me, IÂ’m now doing great in a pre-med magnet high school. Gateway also has awesome electives like robotics, gaming, and forensic science, which made school super fun.

Overall, Gateway really prepared me for high school, and IÂ’m thankful for all the teachers who believed in me!

My child was at this school for seven years, and it truly became like a second home for us. The teachers and staff care so much! They know the kids, support them, and really bring out their best. I watched my child grow in confidence and character here, not just in academics. ItÂ’s a wonderful, welcoming school community and IÂ’m so grateful for the foundation my child had to help him get into a great high school.

I wish this school was better because most of the students I met are really kind people. Most teachers dont care and just give you lots of homework. About bullying, People bully each other and they're fights almost every single day. About the special education and hispanic people that dont know english, the teachers just let them fail for not knowing english, they dont even try to help them.

I would never recommend this school.

I wish that one day soon, the Miami Dade County Public school system would take a closer look at this school. If you can help it please avoid sending your children here. Unless you're sending them to Ms. Schuab's VPK class, she is the best part of the school.

My experience as a parent of children that attended this school was simply amazing. The teachers invested in them and it caused them to blossom. My daughters were so prepared for high school after graduating from this school. Also, teachers and administrators were responsive to the particular need of my children when obstacles to learning would occur. I truly believe that all of the teachers that taught my daughters were/ are amazing educators. Also, the extraordinary dance teacher and team enhanced their overall educational experience.

The assistant principal told me they didn't have enough staff. This has been the worst experience I've had at a public school.

The administration is horrible my 8year old son was punched in the face and the same kid shoved ice down his pants and they did nothing they did not even notify me about it and then it turn out they gave my son detention and not the other boy when I tried to speak to the principal they laughed and said that's not going to be possible so I had to call the cops and then finally was able to speak to the assistant principal mrs Benitez and she was extremely rude she told me she does not have to tell me anything and that if I have a concern with the school google and find out where I can complain and then hung up on me! This school is understaffed and the pocket all the money and do not put it in the school trust me DO NOT put your child here!!!!!!!

My daughter did kindergarten at and just now started 1st grade, my son did kinder, 1st and just started 2nd at Gateway. I have been over the top happy with the school and administration thus far. My daughter was tested for gifted in kinder and my son had struggled academically; not caused by the school or teachers. I know both ends of the spectrum. Everyone has been helpful from all angles. The security guards are friendly and helpful when ever I have had contact. The administration team from 2012-2015 were outstanding, very helpful and active with the students and parents. I do not understand any of the negative reviews this school has had. Both my husband and I have been active in our children's education and in the school. The only down fall the school has that I have witnessed is, not all the parents are as interested in their child's education as I would have expected them to be. This has created some trying times for the teachers and administrative team. I am moving and will fight to keep my children in this school as it will no longer be our home school.

My daughter is given a little extra work just to exercise her thinking, this is great as she is a little ahead than the rest of her classmates. My son on the other hand struggles a little more and takes a little longer to complete his work.

I had my two kids here. i have to say my daughter teacher was excellent for kindergarten ms. Hernandez.she learned alot. Now my soy was in 4th grade a little challenging but as a parent we need to be on top and make sure they do what they need to do. Also if i had any problems i was asking for a meeting. Have to say he did good at the end . it was hard when he was in a class that no one wanted to learn so much a teacher can do. So dont blam so much the school they all have problems but the parents need to be involved. Lets see this year with a new principal.

I must agree with a lot of these posts. This school is a joke. The children in this school are bullied by the administration. The principals and assistant principals in this school have no morals. No interest in the kids safety. They preach so much about no bullying tolerance and they are the first one to bully the kids. And I am talking for experience, my child was bullied by the assistant principal and then sent to CSI. I am not here to justified my son's punishment because i am a firm believer that every action has their consequences but I will not tolerate the assistant principal to get on his face. Another occasion was son was punched in the stomach by another student, the teacher told me that the kid will be punished and nothing was done. I called the principal and he didn't return my calls. I am transferring my son out of this circus.

This school is a JOKE! My first grader struggled all through the year. His teachers were wonderful and I don't blame them at all. They are in a tiny classroom with 30+ students. He needed testing, and they would never do it. Called several times and no phone calls were ever returned. His doctor called and no one would return her calls. An older kid punched him getting off the bus. The vice principal knew the kid and did nothing about it. I was told, maybe he shouldn't ride the bus. He had a D in reading for the year. I was told this wasn't a problem. I think this school needs a new start, with a new administration. And 2 visitor parking spots for 1600 kids?? Really??

I love the teachers my kid has had these two years they are hands on and very helpful and kept me inform of everything

I had to place my daughters in this school after making an important decision to go back to school to further my career. They were originally in Pinecrest Elementary, and as I am sure you can imagine, I was hoping for the best, but expecting the worst; the worst is what we got! Gateway is a mess, to say the least. The caliber of students (and their parents) is not ideal for a parent who wants their child to excel academically. My daughter s teacher even jokingly named the school the "mini ghetto." My oldest daughter was harassed, by her peers, because she stood out like a sore thumb because of her intellect. I now have them attending Keys Gate Charter School for this upcoming school year. It isn't an "A" school like Pinecrest, but I am hoping the environment of a charter school will be more conducive in allowing my daughters to develop intellectually.

This school is doing the bare minimum to stay open. Unless your child has a disability that will garner more funding, they have no interest in them. They even tell you what to tell your child's doctor to get the diagnosis they desire to get funding. My children will not be attending this or any other Miami Dade County school next school year.

Posted: April 14, 2013

Horrible ! Take notice the positive reviews date back 3 years. Larger it grows worse it gets! They love to call you and complain about nonsense but when you need help for your child in academics you have to call for weeks then threaten to call district! My child went from honors to struggling C's so they deter me to a RETEACHWEB SITE! Talk about passing the buck no accountability!im very involved with my child's education th staff there treats stents as a burden! Drop off pick up proess is a half assed disaster! Teachers constantly absent dress as if at the beach or a night club! Basically it's a ghetto zoo

I am a grandparent of 4 children who attend this school and I am horrified with their practices. The children are bullied, not by other students but the staff and mostly the principal. The latest incident left my grandson, sad, disillusioned, and frighten against retaliation. A group of student misbehaved with a substitute teacher and each and every student had to write 3 letters. My grandson came home that day almost in tears, for he did not do anything wrong and felt he was accused and had to write a letter of apologize for something he did not do. He was threatened that if he did not comply his would be severely punished and was afraid that if his mother said anything he would be punished, again for doing nothing wrong. The staff of this school is suppose to protect our children from bullies, not be the root of the problem. This principal does not even look like the principal, her clothing and hair looks like she just got out of bed. Their is no proffesionalism among the staff. My grandchildren are constantly intimidated by the administration. I am hoping this letter will give a voice to the poor children who are afraid to say or do anything. This has gone on too long.
