My child has been going to Franklin for 8 years now. Most teachers have been pretty good and the safety is great but the new administration has no clue what they are doing. The old principal need to come back!

It is a good school but the amount of homework the kids get is ridiculous, Im not sure the teachers communicate which each other to see how much they leave for the kids to do at home, my kid gets home from school and has to sit down to do homework until 9:30 or 10 pm only stopping to have dinner and take a shower and on top on that when they get a break for winter, summer, spring or any kind of break, the school makes sure to send assignments for them to do while they are in break young minds needs some rest too, at least they could let them rest a bit, its a whole lot of work specially for a no homework school Im sure thats why the school is a A grade school but at what cost?

I used to go to this very school, and while there are good things to say about it, there's also bad things as well. The safety precautions are done well in my opinion, as there weren't too many student fights, and when there were, they were stopped almost immediately. They also have a relatively good community at least in my experience, and the teachers and staff are pretty nice in my opinion. Most of them. One thing I wanna complain about is the fact that on the website, Franklin academy is considered a "no homework school" but that couldn't be FURTHER from the truth. They give you TONS of homework. I even feel like a few teachers dont know what the curriculum is supposed to be. I mean as in they dont know how much work they are collectively giving the children. They're just doing they're own thing, thinking that their class is the only one giving homework. Not all teachers obviously, and i know they all mean well but i think they need to work out a system where they all know how much work to give the kids throughout the year, and how much work the other teachers are giving the same students. This i can only say for middle school though, I don't know for sure about elementary school. They have also implemented "IXL" an electronic learning program to help with learning whatever subject. While sometimes I do think it helped me understand some stuff, the program itself takes forever for a student to complete an assignment, leading to more time wasted. Anytime you get a question wrong, it sets you back further from your progress. I've seen with my own eyes some students having breakdowns over this app, especially if they learn in a different/slower pace. I didn't have the same emotional turmoil, but I do still indeed, despise that app. I wasted a lot of time i could've used to complete different assignments from the same class. As for the teachers themselves, they were all mostly fun to be around, but a few I will say, had anger issues. Like, them yelling during class became a regular occurrence and I dont think that's good. But most teachers didn't have that problem thankfully. One final thing, the social aspect. Most students at this time felt tired of school, so some felt unapproachable, especially if they had their own friend groups. Im saying this as an introvert so take that as you will. Im just thankful that I was able to find my own group of friends but I always felt alienated in classes where they didnt appear. That depends on the students of course.

I'm not in the school but when I was there there was one autistic kid who genuinely needed some help, his mom played a part but still. The kid would run out of the classroom anytime someone made her mad, and he hit kids with metal water bottle or rocks. He was babyed his whole life so he thought it was ok. The kid was gifted academically but people didn't reprucus him because of his autism, and I believe that that was the wrong choice and they should have cared more.

I've been a Franklin Academy Sunrise parent for the past 7 years. My eldest started on 4th grade and graduated in 8th grade while my youngest is currently in 5th grade. I have been very happy with this school and how it is run. I absolutely love the fact that the administrative team, namely the Principal and Assistant Principals are accessible to parents. I can either call in or send and email and know that it will be addressed promptly. Both my son's have had teachers whom communicate well and meet with parents if there are any concerns academically or otherwise. I trust that my kids are safe while on school premises. I've recommended this school to countless friends and coworkers. I still have another 3 years here with my youngest and looking forward to continuing to support this school. Thank you FA Sun Administrators, Teachers and other team members for your hard work.

My son attended from Kindergarten to 3rd grade. We have nothing but positive things to say. I was a member of the PTO board for a year and spent a lot of time in the building and I felt right at home. I am an educator myself and I can vouch the principal and office staff love what they do and have the best interest of the kiddos in mind.

We could not be happier with this school. Our Principal Mr. Delgado, the teachers, administrators and all the staff are so wonderful. Not only is the focus of this school on great academics but also on kindness and the importance of parent involvement. That is something that is very important to us as well. We feel very blessed to be part of the Franklin Family!

I love Franklin Sunrise, Principal and staff have a highly commitment about students progress and integrity. Not easy to deal with kids between 12-15 years old. My daughter has been there since the open the doors 2014 and they have improved a lot... The only bad thing so far is they don't promote sports for all the kids.

Just like other reviewers stated, the school started out great, but this year was just ok. There are some brilliant teachers, and some absolutely horrid ones! They seem to test the kids a lot, but the results are seldom shared with parents. If your child needs help they will give you a list of tutors for $40 an hour. My daughter's teacher told me this is how they supplement the low salaries, tutoring and after school activities. What a shame. We tried tutoring and it wasn't great, so we then did a Saturday school, which also wasn't so great. This school is ok if your home public school is scary, but it's not the amazing "private school experience" they claim it to be.

My child did not have a consistent math teacher . She had 5 different math teachers and it was 3-4 weeks before the FSA. She felt like she was not prepared at all for the state testing. After she took the FSA testing, her class received a teacher who actually taught. My daughter and I was so happy, but I wish they didn't take too long to replace new teacher(s) in the class. That was the only class she had a problem with. None of her other periods seem to have this issue.

Yeah, they help when the FSA testing comes around. They have math boot-camps, but in the whole school year they do nothing. They see kids struggling and they do exactly nothing. They give out forms that their going to put your child in a monitor program because you didn't do average in Discovery Education testing that (they do every quarter) but they do nothing to help the students.

School needs better structure and teachers. Last year my daughter had a blast and actually believe it or not this school had structure and awesome teachers, but I don't know what happened this year and now I wouldn't recommend this school for your child.

The school has no structure for helping kids with other health impairments, especially non academic disabilities. If you have a kid that can't work on their own and struggles with mental or social needs, this school is NOT the place for them. Save yourself the stress and send them to a different school that is better funded for ESE programs. This school's ESE services are total garbage.

The school doesn't put funding into their ESE program, so it's a bare bones skeleton of what other schools have to offer. They set the goals of IEPs high and don't meet them. If you have an OHI or ESE kid, look elsewhere. They will not thrive at Franklin Academy and both you and your child will suffer over it.

If your kid is being harassed by another student, they get send to the administration office and a phone call is sent home. They have no discipline procedure set up in the school that discourages bad behavior. Sending kids home and repeatedly suspending them is not a way to solve bullying/harassment. They don't believe in time outs and consider it corporal punishment to put a kid in time out.

Terrible school for kids that need extra help. I would only recommend the school to parents that have kids that are extremely independent and capable of taking charge of their learning.

Teachers and administrative staff including asst principal are not compassionate educators. They do not like to work with kids to develop their characters. The only way of decipline is detention and suspension for even elementary students for issues that can easily be handled by a simple warning from a teacher. Your child is always at fault in their eyes. Assistant principal is very good at threatening the children in order to force them to admit that they are wrong. Very sad.

Took several emails, phone calls, and a meeting for physical bullying to stop and surprisingly they manage to find my child guilty for being bullied. my child was kicked punched and shoved, but they said it is not considered bullying because he tried to defend himself each time. It did stop though at the end.

They want students to be adults. Do their work independently, and do not ask questions. If a child asks for a teacher to repeat herself she tells them that she has already gone over the topic and do not have time to repeat. They want children to sign up for tutoring which is not cheap.

No homework policy, but they give your child tons of "reviews"some of those are verbally communicated to the child which they forget about by the time they come home. Teacher never take responsibility though for your child's grade. My child is an honor roll student I can only imagine how other parents feel

I never understood parents who blame the school's policies and the teachers for THEIR CHILD FAILING. Franklin Academy is by far one of the best elementary schools out there. My son is in grade 5 and he has the best homeroom, Math and English teacher I have ever had the pleasure of working with. They are there early and late most days as they see the potential in each child and do their very best to ensure the children are working up to their potential. My son is a little busy body and love being the class clown and they caught it within the first week and let him know in no uncertain terms that it will not be tolerated or accepted, thank God... The teachers are there to teach, not parent your children. They have a job to do and so do you. So instead of whining and criticizing the teachers how about you the parent take responsibility for your child and parent that child. These teachers are not babysitters. They work hard and they do a lot with the little they have Some of you are so used to chaos and disorder, the moment you have to follow strict guidelines you feel put out. Get over it, get over yourselves, its life, better yet go to another school next year. Thank you to all the grade 5 teachers for the great work you do with these children. My son grades have improved and I appreciate the fact that his teachers come in an hour before school starts to help those students who need the extra help. There is no homework, but there are probes and each student is expected to complete those probes and shows their work. The student intuitive concept is also a great idea, and why are the teachers expected to discipline your child for not behaving the way a respectful and well-mannered child should. Maybe the child needs to understand that they can't behave at school like they do at home, maybe they need to be taught self-control, again, that's not the teacher's job. To the teachers at Franklin Academy, I hope you guys getter better and stronger every year. God Bless

I'm staying Neutral because some of the kids I see are just oh em gee. But again, the teachers should not be expected to raise your children, that's the parent's job, so why blame the teachers when the parents are the ones that are lacking.

The teachers I have had the pleasure of dealing with are great at their jobs. Some teachers can become frustrated and that may show, but it's human nature I don't want to be forced to deal with a disrespectful child all day every day, that would frustrate me too.

I don't think kids should come home with an hour of homework a night.. but I think a quick 10 minute review of what they did that day in the form of homework would be helpful. It can be overwhelming to visit 6 individual teacher websites in addition to PowerSchool every night.

I prayed my child would get chosen for the random lottery. Well, we had the golden ticket. We got in. Overall the school is beautiful. I do catch myself wondering if the more qualified teachers are in regular public schools. My daughter has had honor roll all through her educational experience until Science. This new method they are using is nothing short of a joke. There has been no structure in this classroom and the students are expected to keep quiet when there is no punishment for disturbing the class room. In this new "student intuitive" classroom set up... it's basically a free for all. There seems to severely lack teacher/student interaction. Overall I do believe that switching my child into a charter school was a mistake. They do have Chess as an elective which is odd. Overall, with some replacement of teachers and understanding each child comprehends knowledge in different forms, this place might have had a chance. If you did not get accepted.. look at it as a blessing in disguise.

The only experience I have of this is my son. He has speech problems and goes to speech therapy on a daily basis. His speech is still not perfect but it has improved greatly.

I have three children in this school. There are a couple of things I dislike. One of them is the pickup fiasco. You're not allowed to be even a minute too early for pickup or they make you keep driving around which I find ludicrous. Sometimes the start of the school year can be difficult because they are trying to find the 'right fit' teacher and you may go through a few teachers in the beginning of the year. Other than that, this school is completely amazing. They have some really awesome teachers and the site and classrooms are very safe and secure. Would definitely recommend to anyone.

They do not assign blanket homework assignments. If the student proves they understand the concept in class, they do not need to prove it again with 2+ hours of homework. Now, if they need more assistance in a certain area, the teacher will provide additional practice worksheets to do at home.

This is our first year at Franklin Academy in Sunrise. My son is a kindergartner and absolutely loves it! I've spent the last few years researching schools and this one was always at the top of our list. Their chess program, advanced technology offering and state-of-the-art institution is hard to beat. They have common-sense approach to education which is refreshing- and with that comes very specific expectations for the children who attend. They make it very clear before you sign on the dotted line. Its not for every family or child, but it definitely works for ours. Looking forward to many more years ahead!

Franklin Academy Sunrise has been the worst experience with a school I've ever encounter. The parent who posted their experience on August 9 was the same experience I had. It's good to know that I wasn't the only one. I now have my son in the public schools because Franklin told us a the end of the school year they weren't funded or have enough staff to accommodate any children with IEPs. It was very unprofessional on the school behalf. They wanted the enrollment numbers but we had to suffer the consequences at the end because they setup our children up for failure.

This was the worst experience I have had at a school. If you're the parent of a special needs child do not send them here. They will tell you that they offer IEP services when you first apply but in they end I was told they don't have the "funds" as a regular public school to provide services for kids. One of my boys was kicked out in mid year, not even suspended, kicked out simply because they just didn't want to deal with his defiant disorder. My other son I had to pulled out as well because the school didn't want to deal either with his sensory issues.
I'm a very involved mom, but I have never felt more unwelcomed and disrespected than at this school. They have police officers and personnel gossiping about your kids right in front of you. Imagine that!
Don't be fooled by all the extra curriculum activities and subjects they offer. If you're child needs special services, DO NOT SENT THEM HERE! Again, you will be better off at a regular public school. Save your time, money, and most importantly don't aloud other people make your kids feel unwanted. There are other schools way better that will attend to your kids' needs and will truly care for their progress and well being.

I love the school! I was a little nervous at first because I pulled my son out of a great school, Central Park Elementary in Plantation, to switch him to Franklin, which is a new school. The reason why I did it is because Franklin Academy is K-8 and I am zoned for a terrible middle school, Plantation Middle. There is no way in.... That I would send my child to that middle school. My son is only in second grade but I didn't want to risk staying at Central Park and then have nowhere to go for middle school. I figured that if Franklin was bad, he could always go back to Central Park. I am so glad I changed. I LOVE the school and so does my son! I feel like the school is academically better and they are also very hands on. The kids had a big STEM project for a science fair and they did it all by themselves in class. They did it this way to make sure the parents wouldn't do the projects for the kids. The only thing they could do at home was research. This school also feels like a private school and I love the fact they have uniforms! I definitely recommend it!
