This school started off great but in the 2023 year things changed. M son was bullied, learned racial slurs and I feel his education suffered. In 2023 some teachers left and kids were dispersed (glorified babysitting). There were no replacements and parents weren't notified of dispersement (not forth coming) My son no longer got help (like he did the previous year) because he was getting an a so no need for extra help. several of the teachers gave massive amounts of extra credit to bring grades up--so i'm not exactly sure what he learned. The one saving grace is the algebra teacher--she is excellent but one teacher can't save an entire school. I engaged several times with the administration but nothing changed

My son has been attending Franklin Boys Prep Academy for the past two years. This is an excellent school with excellent teachers and staff. My son has been thriving and not only developing in academics but also in character as the creed of the school is to develop young men of distinction who will achieve greatness. The school is very well organized, teachers are passionate and keep you informed through Canvas about your childs progress and the after school incentives are a bonus. My son also enjoys the House competitions. This school has been a real blessing!

This school is amazing! Their teachers are excellent and committed to the academic development of the children. They are always attentive so that no cases of bullying are generated. The extracurricular activities are innovative and provide an exciting experience for the children. Most importantly, good values are transmitted to each child with passion and love.

Having applied to the school the last day to apply, I had no idea what to expect. My son is sheltered (an only child) and I was worried about him being bullied or picked on. Neither has been has been done. His teachers are caring and work along with him, most communicate frequently. Ms. Arias his math teacher awesome.
He had to use crutches for a few weeks and they ALL supported him around campus. Mr. Haley is an awesome principal! I wish it had a high school. I am please at how well my son is learning and the youngan he is becoming.

My son is thriving at Franklin Boys Prep Academy. BPA really works on developing the whole boy instead of just focusing on academics. Teachers are trained in the latest gender research to address how boys learn and the smaller environment allows teachers to meet the needs of each boy. The boys are placed onto teams (houses) were they work on team building, have strong mentors and make fast friends! Its a Cambridge International School and each student receives an iPad. My son gets almost an hour for lunch where he can go outside and play or can even visit his teachers for tutoring if he's struggling with something. BPA is a gem!! You'll make middle school the best years for your son if you send him here.

My son really enjoys this school. All of the teachers and administrators play a very active apart of the boys learning and progress. He has the opportunity to take advantage of a lot of opportunities he may not get at a regular middle school especially with the electives. The after school enrichments are also really amazing to take advantage of. Dont let a few bad eggs ruin your outlook on this school, they are really trying to instill our boys with being respectful, responsible, and courteous to everyone. As far as other reviews stating about it fights that go on in the school, I cannot speak of that because my son has never told me about any going on in school however, on the magnet bus that is another discussion. That is also not the schools fault itself since the busses go to transportation centers for transfers, the school has informed the boys though if anyone from the school is in a fight consequences will happen.

This school had so much bullying and the academics was not great, overall you needed to be ready to get into fights if you couldn't keep your mouth shut and you needed to be ready for constant interruptions in classes which makes for a poor learning experience.

My nephew described it this way. The kids are horrible, curse and fight all the time, lots and lots of homework and by the book teaching instead of really learning from the heart, no leadership and lots of bullying overall not a great look on the school.

I do not know why GreatSchools rating is 5/10. All parents that I know are very happy and proud of the school leadership and environment. We feel that it is a privilege that our sons are here. The school is old (almost 100 years), but he current system and leadership are totally new (about 6 years old). The after school enrichment programs are wonderful, even an unique Golf program. Teachers, students and parents use Edsby, an communication app.

This is a all boys school and I cannot verify the effectiveness of their anti-bullying programs.

They are the best part of the school. Although the PTA should be better.

This is as close to a private "prep" school as you can get, our family feels so blessed to be able to attend. Our son is in the gifted program and is appropriately challenged in his coursework and supported psychologically by the single-gender environment. Far exceeds our expectations. The after school enrichment programs give the boys an opportunity to participate in athletics even if not experienced enough to make the competitive teams. We celebrate diversity in our home and appreciate that the school instills the same values of integrity, respect, and scholarship in the boys as we do.

I have no experience in this area

Our son is academically gifted and appropriately challenged in his coursework. He experienced a health-related set-back and the staff and teachers immediately put in place accommodations so his temporary circumstances would not permanently impact his academic record.

Teachers have all received additional training to support boys' learning, they are single-gender education certified!

the teachers post everything on a program called Edsby where the students can access their assignments and grades 24 hours a day. Forgot your homework sheet at school, no problem you can print another! Also there is a staggered due date for each of the academic subjects allowing the boys to develop important time management skills.

This school is excellent for students who are NOT out spoken. The AP has a nice nasty attitude. Franklin main concern is the school rating!!! They don't know how to handle most of the students, so they pick on the out spoken ones. Other than that, it's like any other school. Good and bad students, Nice and Rude staff members, and poor lunch. School is what you make out of it.

Because of it's currently low rating (1-29-14) I was extremely skeptical. My son has only attended 10 rated schools, however, they changed my mind. This school has a disciplined, controlled and respectful environment. I ve never seen my son work so hard in any other school. It s not in the best area but it s worth the try. This school keeps their minds on education instead of girls or popularity. This school rewards the students and is business leader oriented. It s a good way to help them in the future for the work environment and self discipline.

I love the staff, the use of I-pads and the courses. I also love the extra academic help with enrichment and the fact that they also have golf. The extra plus is the fact that it is a all boys school. My son is in the 6th grade and I wanted him to focus on school and not girls.

My son has been pleased with this school so far. I was told that the rating here was no accurate because of the changes the school made recently.

Excellent environment for boys to learn with no distractions. They can focus on school work.

The transition from elementary school to middle school was challenging and the staff at Franklin was right by our side with all the resources available to us to assist my son. He has excelled in 6th grade all due to the never ending commitment of the teachers and faculty. We have met some of the most talented teachers in the county and feel confident of our choice in enrolling at Franklin BPA. We will be continuing next year to 7th grade at Franklin and look forward to growing with the school. One of the best choices we have ever made for our son's education. Highly recommend Franklin BPA!!!!!

We have had the wonderful opportunity to be an active part BPA. The faculty and leadership bring positive learning experiences (academically) as well as preparationm for the world. The school's climate is warm and welcoming. The young men are going to make a posti impact on this experience for Hillsborough School System. Thank you Board members for supporting this effort and giving our young men a difference kind of learning

I am extremely impressed by the faculty i work with at Franklin Boys Preparatory Academy. Each teacher has been specifically trained to teach in a single-gender environment, and has had extensive training founded upon brain-based research. I have never worked with a faculty who is so willing to give of their own time, and who are so dedicated toward the success of their students.

My child attended this school during the past year. I was affraid at first because in the past the school had a bad rep. but my child excelled. The curriculum, the agenda, after school activities, all done with guidance and care. The teachers were great.
