Great school & Amazing Teachers as well as the office personnel. My son as attend for all 3 years of middle school. This year will be his last year. If you're looking for a school where your child or children won't get bullied this school will be a great choice. They do not tolerate bullying. My aunt help me pick the best school with the best curriculum as she is a retired college teacher and out of the 3 top on the list. This was my choice and I don't regret. They are all amazing here at channelside Academy of math & science. A+

AS a instructor at Channelside academy, I've enjoyed the experience of a different environment as to teaching at an inter-city school. It has brought joy, dedication and a eye opener to developing and growing with my craft. The community is like a family coming together as one. The parents are active and is supportive of the school overall . Finally, the classrooms are conductive to learning. Based on observations, their is a lot of interactive learning that goes on within the class rooms and student are engaged as they learn. I am very happy to be at a school like CAM!

ItÂ’s a shame when they donÂ’t care about the kids as much as they care about testing they do not realizing if they treated the kids fair no mater what nationality they are and if they felt safe and in a caring environment the kids would score better

Wow where do I start. My family has had several children go to this school. For many years my experience was a good one. Staff personnel were very engaging and support of the whole child. With the new administration, my children do not feel equity and inclusiveness. Administration only care about test grades. One of my children received a referral and detention for the first time ever. I mentioned to Administration that this should have been a great time to educate my child or give a warning. My child didnÂ’t fight, bully anyone or anything close. ( They have different disciplinary rules based on race and ethnicity)
I visually see that minorities are treated differently. I visually see students are treated differently base on their socio economic status.

My children are A students and well behaved. This school use to be like my extended family and I really thought they cared for children.
They donÂ’t. ChildrenÂ’s social emotional development is not important to Administration. Research the school, ask parents and students before choosing this school. A school should be a place to learn and guide.

The school has a new principal, and the changes are amazing. Regular communication from the schools principal, teachers seem to be more engaging. My daughters grades have even improved. We have been with the school 4 years and the change over the last 2 have been amazing. I was going to pull my now 6th grader out but we are very happy!

Terrible school with a lack of initiative from the teachers or principal to address major concerns of bullying. Teachers are unprofessional and have low moral and tell students that they “aren’t paid enough” to do their job. Do not send your children to this school!

Posted: December 16, 2019

The principle dose not know how to deal with major bullying problems.

Posted: December 16, 2019

This school would be much better if the principle got there act together.

Posted: December 16, 2019

homework is given but not graded correctly.

This school is an absolute joke. If you want to send you child here have fun dealing with the administration but donÂ’t care about anything. They gave my brother 3 weeks to finish 5 semesters worth of stuff or else heÂ’d be held back. Just donÂ’t waste your time at this joke of a school.

We transferred our girls into the school after a bit of moving around, into K and 3rd grade. I cannot say enough wonderful things about this awesome school. The teachers and staff are extremely communicative, caring and organized—the school puts on lovely functions for the kids and their minds are challenged more than ever before. My girls are comfortable in school and know kids in other grades, other teachers, and the school staff—like a big family! My daughter recently went to represent the school at MOSI and the vice principle (and her teacher) was there to see all the kids from Channelside participate… on a Saturday. Don’t hesitate to apply to this Charter—it is in high demand for a reason, and I count our lucky stars our kids were able to get into this school.

Wow! I simply can not say enough about our wonderful experience at this school. My two daughters have been attending for 3 years and every day I am grateful for this school and their incredible teachers. They are all upbeat, professional, and truly care about their students education. I believe that the math and science focus at this charter school expose students to many interesting experiences they would not otherwise have the opportunity to discover. I am very impressed and would highly recommend taking a tour. It's the best decision we have made for our girls education.

I'm so glad my son got pick to attend 'Channelside Academy of math and science' school he loves his teacher and is excelling in all subjects.. The teachers and staff really care about the children. I would recommend this school to all my family and friends.

Channelside is by far the greatest school my daughter has attended. I am satisfied with the care and methods of their teaching staff and Ms. Edna by far plays her roll to the "T". The staff is an all around professional " Family " orchestrated team, equipped to take our children to the next level in their lives. Sincerely, Cecil C. Hunter

My son started Kindergarten at CAMS this year. He had never attended VPK or Day School prior to his acceptance to CAMS so even though he was advanced intellectually, he was not used to a social class setting and therefore took sometime to adapt to the structure. His Kindergarten Teacher has been great at understanding strengths and weaknesses, keeping us informed and allowing us to help our son get accustom to his new responsibilities and expectations. As I attended ALL Meetings prior to my sons acceptance and enrollment and it was made very clear to me that CAMS is a very small, exclusive Charter School whom requires a great deal of effort and involvement from the parents. If you are not interested or are unable to at least be moderately involved in your child's school activities, then it is likely that this is not the school for you and your child(ren). I am blessed to have found a private school atmosphere whom is willing to accept payment in the form of time and parent involvement.

My kids have been here since the school opened. I'm extremely impressed with the material my kids are learning - far ahead of the public elementary schools. Also, the teachers couldn't be more open and accessible. I feel like I'm partnering with them to give my kids the best education possible. I love this school.

Channelside is an amazing school. My Children have been there for three years and I have been a sub there for 2 years. My children have never experienced any bullying problems. The administration is wonderful and always available. The teachers are young and innovative! I have spent a lot of time with the teachers and staff, they are a very olose group who have been together since the school opened. The only turn around I have seen is in middle school where a few teachers were let go. The staff has a very positive relationship with administration. If you are looking to come to Channelside, the best thing to do is come and see it for yourself. You will be impressed!!

Horrible-- Constanct Chaos--Absolutely NO discipline. I cringe everytime I have to pick up my children. Either one or both are hurt on a daily basis. Administration--HAA what is that? The lack of, I should say is horrible. If you want your children to act like animals and learn to tolerate bullying and unresponsivness from the staff, then this is the place to be! Three years of watching frustration on parents' faces, teachers scared to speak up, the constant turn around. Just awful. Good luck to those that have no other option.

Middle school. Positives: - clean and modern - friendly - safe - favorable teacher : student ratio - easiest A's your child will ever accomplish Negatives: - lack of teaching (more like a day care than a middle school) - high teacher turnover - high teacher absenteeism (and often made worse by lack of securing a substitute) - absence of middle school extra curricular activities This school may well be a decent elementary school. It is an academically inadequate middle school. I encourage the parent who wishes to write a positive review of the middle school to first finish a 1-month log of what their child has learned each day, and to compare notes from the log with other middle school parents and middle school educators. I challenge the parent who writes a positive review to provide examples of what books their child has been required to read and analyze, and evidence - based analysis of how their child's knowledge of math and science has met or exceeded their parental expectations.

CAMS is an outstanding school, it's the best alternative to private school in Hillsborough County Florida. My child went from an private environment and adjusted extremely well. The teachers and administrators are awesome and welcome the parents point of view, involvement and opinion.

Posted: April 1, 2014

We are so happy with Channelside Academy! I am impressed with the principal, teachers, and all of the supportive parents. Channelside Academy has a more "private school" feel and I really like that. The teachers strive to make learning fun and my girls look forward to attending everyday. Finding this school has been a true blessing!

Posted: April 1, 2014

This school is awful they allow children to bully others and make racial slurs. My child gets made fun of for not apparent reason. The teachers say nothing and let the kids go on. I am taking my child out of here as soon as the year is up. The elementary school is a joke. They do not teach anything to prepare the children for major tests. They aren't even teaching on the curriculum. I would never recommend this school becasue its just been a nightmare. My child is always upset when she comes home and I have had enough. They need a new staff that actually cares about the children well being. I like nothing about this school and cant wait to take her out of there.

Posted: March 27, 2014

I couldn't disagree more with the latest review that was posted. This "A" school sets the highest standards for their teachers and staff. I'm thankful that this school only allows the best and will not tolerate mediocre teaching. That is exactly why this school environment works for our family.

Posted: March 27, 2014

I have elementary and middle school children that attend this school. The Principal and the Dean of Students are professional and very supportive of the students and parents. Channelside Academy is an exemplary example of an interactive school that connects fun and learning. Our children love the small classroom atmosphere and the quality of the teachers and staff. This school is top notch at challenging the development of young minds!

Posted: March 22, 2014

As a parent of a student at Channelside Academy, I agree 100% with the review written on Sept. 28, 2013. We are left disappointed with the lack of rigor at a school that is supposed to focus on math and science. One thing to add; five teachers in our son's grade have been inexplicably replaced by January of this school year. Five. Additionally, teachers were rotated between course subjects. No explanation has been given to the parents, but it almost seems as if this school is a "try out" for aspiring teachers who have yet to find their specialty at the expens of our child's education. Our child is in middle school and I feel his experience at Channelside has done little to nothing to prepare him for high school.

Posted: December 10, 2013

We are very pleased with Channelside! I find the staff very helpful and knowledgeable and all interactions with the school have been very positive! Our son has done great academically and is also participating in the band. I highly recommenced this school to all elementary and middle school parents!

We love Channelside Academy! I am in the top school district for our area but would not even think about sending our two daughters anywhere else. They have been thriving in this wonderful environment for the last two school years. I love the math and science focus, it has been great watching my girls learn so much. The teachers and the principal are all outstanding too!

Posted: August 25, 2013

We were very excited to put our kids in this school, but the discipline methods used there are simply counter-productive. Instead of the "innocent until proven guilty" behavior method, they choose to start each week out with you at the bottom and you have to do certain things to achieve "rewards", like free play for the kindergartners. Speaking of, the kindergarten is run like a boot camp. I thought Kindergarten was supposed to be a kind, caring environment and we were given every expectation that it was going to be. Turned out to be the polar opposite. I'm pulling my kids at the first opportunity. To say I'm disappointed is an under-statement.

Great teachers and superior leadership have made this such an awesome school you want you kids to stay in thru 8th grade:)

Posted: May 31, 2013

This is a wonderful school with high expectations. Children are expected to behave and they are rewarded for their high achieving academics. The teachers are amazing and always willing to go above and beyond. I have two children that attend here and I am a very involved volunteer at this school. I know first hand how much the administration, teachers and staff care about the students here. I could not ask for a better place!

Posted: May 29, 2013

I cannot say enough negative things about this "school". Chaotic environment, no classroom discipline, no rewards for positive achievement, no communication from staff, and bullying is endemic at this school. Our child's education came to a screeching halt once he attended Channelside. Not only are your concerns ignored by the teachers and principal but the director will also ignore you and just hope you go away. Would not recommend anyone attending this pathetic, unprofessional institution. Our experience was so terrible we had to remove our child this year. This is as bad as it gets. Awful, awful, awful.

Posted: May 29, 2013

Coming to this school we heard great things about Channelside, and all of our expectations have been met. We are so pleased with the teachers and staff. The principal shows strong communication skills, and always go above and beyond. We love all the family events that go on, and can't wait for upcoming years at Channelside Academy!

Posted: May 29, 2013

It is really sad to see such an untrue and unfounded review of our school and principal. We moved from NYC and it took us two years and disappointing schools until we found CAMS. Not only are the teachers very helpful and extremely communicative they are lead by a wonderful principal and staff. I believe this to such a degree that I have recommended this school to my friends and ushered them down there to see it for themselves. Everything has been planned out very well and nothing is unsafe (which was a very high concern/deal breaker to me before CAMS) I am comforted by the level of security at this school and I am there a lot volunteering so I do have some first hand knowledge of this. I also have delalt with the principal on several different occasions and have never seen her act in any other way than professional and caring. This poor review of her and the school was obviously written by a disgruntled parent who has some "mean girl" issue themselves. I understand that everyone has a right to an opinion but this one was so outlandish I had to respond with mine. PS: CAMS has a long waiting list of people clamoring to get in.

I have experienced many different schools from Manhattan to Florida and none have come close in comparison to Channelside Academy of Math and Science (CAMS). As a owner of two companies myself, one of the first attributes I look for in a school for my child is it's leadership. Any organization needs a strong, caring leader to succeed. At CAMS, the principal is not only a well rounded educator, they are also a very caring and "hands-on" individual who makes themselves available to chat with the parents/students at any moment. Their approach to the education, security and welfare of its students is second to none. The hand-picked teachers are phenomenal and the course curriculum provides the proper balance of challenge and creativity... your child will not be bored. They also have a fantastic science lab with a 150 gallon salt water touch tank for the students and a well stocked computer lab. If you are looking for a top-notch school in Tampa that provides an engaging environment for both students and parents, and from my experience, whose level of education out shines any public or private school, Channelside Academy of Math and Science is most certainly worth a serious look.

Channelside Academy is an amazing charter school! I work downtown and I love how they welcome parents to come in during lunch and eat with their child. My son is finally being challenged and excited to learn. He absolutley loves the school, teachers and staff. I am very happy with the school overall!

Posted: February 16, 2013

Great school! Very happy about their curriculum. Principal is always open and available to speak with a parent when needed! Great communication between parents and teachers!

AWFUL experience. I sent my kids to this school because they were close to my job and I was impressed with their presentation and I had heard good things about charter schools. I was VERY disappointed, they were focused on FCATs (after stressing at the orientation meetings that they did not focus on FCATs) and one teacher even bribed my son's class with CASH if the students did well on the FCAT. Of course I complained to the principal who did nothing (they have a new principal now) but we are no longer at this school.
