So I know this school has some good reviews so this one wont mean much Im sure but people need to know that this schools administration is horrible. I have watched for years now how they will bend the rules for one child while another will get maximum punishment & honestly a lot of it boils down to if you live in sweet bay or not. For some reason the kids in sweet bay seem to be untouchable while if you live outside of sweet bay you better go to school & keep your head down all day . When the old principal was there it was definitely more laid back , a more friendly environment but when this new Principal came in ( I wont mention HER name dont want to go against the guidelines) kids started getting in trouble for the dumbest things , & Im talking about things that happened off campus but got back to the principal & one more than one occasion she has taken on herself to discipline the children although it has nothing to do with the school . She has called kids liars & talked down to them in a way that kids in any setting shouldnt be talked to. As far as the teachers go theres good & bad like anywhere but be ready for tons of homework & projects. This school & there CEO believes they dont have to follow Bay district guidelines because they are a charter school. Theres much more that needs to be said because theres so many incidents Ive witnessed that was just wrong on the Administrations part but Im running out of space . So if you have a kid & they can go to school & keep there head down , dont express themselves, & speak when spoken too , oh & you have a home in sweetbay then sign up , but if your child has a personality & you like to discipline your child & not the principal & dont want your child belittled & talked down to then STAY AWAY !!

Very bad experience with this school. They do not want special ed students or any student that may have any type of learning issues. Education is about how to reach every student, but not this school. They definitely have some good teachers and some not so good, but you will have that at any school. The leadership of the school is the problem - the board as well. I had to take my child out as there was too much bullying that was allowed from other kids and the administrators. This is not a child comes first atmosphere, it is more a popularity contest. My child was lost on the first day of school and they gave him no help and I couldnt find my child for over an hour. Only one person helped. The experience has affected my child and my family. I have always trusted sending my children to a school, but after the abusive experience it has scared us to the point we are very Leary. I know the school is convenient and popular. There are more that feel the same but the fear of being shunned or alienated from the popular community no one comes forward, they move or quietly go. I hope this helps someone and they follow up with their kids and make sure they are safe.

Both my girls attended UA from first grade (oldest) and kindergarten (youngest) until 8th grade. We've had 3 principals total since we started (1 retired) and we loved them all. The teachers and staff are amazing. I love the opportunities given to the kids when they're ahead in the learning curve. My kids loved the challenging curriculum and knowing that there's always someone available if they had questions.

The reviewer who mentioned spending $800 for uniforms and fees is a bit exaggerating. I had 2 kids at this school at the same time and didn't spend that much on uniforms and fees. The pre-k fees are standard for every program in Bay county.

My granddaughter started in kindergarten after having been @ Holy Nativity the previous 2 years. She has grown in her academics as well as the opportunities that she's afforded after school located @ the school such as Girl Scouts, Art, Building blocks, etc. She prospers from the style of education. The district could invest in the educational opportunities for all students by following the extended day & style of educating in which even the at-risk populations would prosper. It's a mindset of not only the system & school but also the parents. Expectations of success are present in all aspects of the system w/in University. Presentation of material is delivered w/ an "I can" attitude. My granddaughter would have returned to Holy Nativity if the environment were not right for her. I would gladly pay for an education that is above adequate as it is important & a priority in our family, especially for our female children (we have no male children:-)).

The best school in Bay county! My child has been there since the beginning and other child started with pre-k program and has continued on into elementary school. The looping program and communication is exceptional. As a parent I confident while I work my child is learning and being care for as I would! Wish we were doing a high school!

Regarding the review given on September 19, 2014 by the parent slamming the Pre-K Director and Pre-K program, it must be noted that upon acceptance to the school and even in the registration paperwork, parents understand and sign (to show their understanding and agreement) that a condition of enrollment is that all kids entering the Pre-K program MUST BE 100% potty trained to attend the school (so the fact that the child was 4 is not important--the entire Pre-K class was composed of 4-yr olds). My child was in that class and the parent who wrote that review failed to mention that their child had frequent accidents during the day, which created major disruptions to the classroom. An occasional accident happens and is understandable, but when they occur multiple times per week for over a month, it is obvious that the child is not 100% potty trained. Regardless of timing during the day (whether it is during instructional time or nap time), the simple fact is that the child was not 100% potty trained, as required, and thus could not attend the school. With only 1 teacher and 1 para in the classroom of 16 kids that year, it was unfair to the rest of the students and to the other teacher/para when the teacher could not do her job because she was instead cleaning up after and changing a child who was not potty trained. This important information needed to be disclosed, as we had an outstanding year that year and the Pre-K program was (and still is) exceptional. And on an end note, the Preschool/Pre-K Director is superb, as are the teachers and paras.

University Academy is an awesome school. My son has been there since the school opened and it has been the best learning experience for him. The walk to reading/math concept has given him the opportunity to learn in an environment where the teacher is focused on his learning level and style. The principal Mrs. V is hands on and knows all the kids by name and the parents. The school just doubled in size and moved into a new permanent location and is working out a few kinks with that but all in all UA is the top choice for Bay county. Your child will have the best education here. They integrate learning field trips to go along with most curriculum and have lots of hands on learning time. Due to the extended school day they are able to have Spanish and PE every day and Enrichment time to make sure that all students grasp the concepts that were taught earlier in reading and math. The PTO is very involved with supporting the school in whatever they need and always have things going on for the students and staff. Compared to other schools here UA seems like we should be paying for the education our children are receiving for free. GO EAGLES!!

I have had an absolutely horrible experience at this school. My daughter's teacher was nice and so was the aftercare teacher but the Pre-k director is atrocious. She treats parents as if they are idiots and so beneath her. When I spoke to teachers about her their response was, well tha is how she is. We just have to deal with her. I want to know why. She kicked my daughter out of the school because she wears a pull up during nap time. She just turned 4. That is not that unusual. I have spent close to $800 in fees and supplies and uniforms just to get her in the school. Not to mention the $150 a week. Her attitude is sickening

The other reviewer is correct. This is a fantastic A school. The walk to math and walk to reading really set this school apart. They also have a foreign language (Spanish) class for EVERY grade starting at Kindergarten. They listen to classical music while painting the works of Monet, they have PE every day, they have hands on science experiments even in Kindergarten. The principal knows every student's name. They even offered Mandarin Chinese to every student. EVERY school should be modeled after this one.

This school is incredible! There is no comparison to public school! There are an extraordinary number of benefits for your child to go to this school. Students are taught in Reading and Math based on their ability levels with a "walk to" concept. It means students literally walk (or stay) to the teacher who will be teaching Reading/Math at the level they tested in. Furthermore, every teacher has a para in their room so the students have two teachers there to assist them. Is your child bored at their other school? Or do they need extra help and are being left behind? My favorite part of this school is how well rounded I feel my child is because along with Reading/Math they have very strong units. Unit studies include integrating their Science, Social Studies, Art, and Music! In fact, they even have an extended school day just so they can have the extra time to accomplish all this and still give students time for physical movement(PE) everyday! Parents here have very high expectations for the school, which is terrific! You do sometimes hear negative comments from parents and I just have to remind them that their child is receiving FREE private school education at this school!
