My experience with Henderson Hammock Charter School has been a very positive one overall. As a parent, one of the things I value most is knowing that my children feel safe, supported, and happy in their school environment, and that has truly been the case here. My children enjoy attending school every day, have built positive relationships with their teachers and classmates, and feel part of the school community. That alone means a lot to our family.
The teachers and staff have shown dedication to helping students succeed academically while also encouraging personal growth and responsibility. There are many educators who genuinely care about the students and take the time to communicate with families when support is needed. I appreciate the structure and academic expectations the school maintains, as it helps students stay focused and motivated.
One of the best parts of our experience has been the supportive environment created by many of the teachers. Their patience, encouragement, and willingness to help students during challenging moments do not go unnoticed. It is comforting as a parent to know there are staff members who truly want students to succeed.
Of course, like any school, there are areas that could continue improving. I would appreciate more consistent communication regarding disciplinary situations, academic concerns, and updates involving students. Clearer communication between school and families can help parents feel more informed and involved in their childrens education.
Overall, we are grateful for the experience our family has had at the school. My children are happy there, and that is one of the most important things for me as a parent. I appreciate the effort many teachers and staff members put into supporting students every day.

My experience with Henderson Hammock Charter School has been very positive. I really like the school and, most importantly, I feel that my children are safe and cared for in a supportive environment.
I also truly appreciate the schools strong academic focus. It is clear why the school has an A rating. The teachers and staff are committed to helping students learn and succeed academically.
In addition, the staff is always kind, respectful, and willing to guide or help whenever parents have questions or need support. That makes a big difference as a parent and creates a welcoming atmosphere for families. I am very grateful for the experience my children have had at this school

Two school years ago, students didn't have enough books. The principal is terrible and I know she is reading this, she likes to do that. That and: park in the handicapped parking space even though she has no permit to do so on her white SUV. She has a HORRIBLE attitude toward the students and teachers. "The teachers last year that aren't here couldn't handle me"HAHAHA. Wow, so unprofessional. She would throw her own employees under the bus in front of students. "You have a cellphone? Who is your teacher? Congrats, you just got them in trouble" She will blacklist past teachers to try and prevent them from getting new employment. She is dishonest. I wouldn't send my dog to this place.

Horrible school with horrible
teachers.Instead of making the students feel welcomed they make them feel agitated. The deans especially carry out these negative feelings which is very intolerable. These teachers need to get their acts together.

Do NOT send your children here. I went to this school for nine years and know firsthand that it is not good. The administrative team do not care about you or your future at all. They just degrade you and set precedents in your head that will stick with you in a traumatic way. Back when it first opened, the school was okay. But after covid and all the staff changed, (2019-2020) it all went downhill. Do not listen to the five star reviews. Sure some people get by in this school, but the majority do not. Send your child somewhere else. If I knew about all of the trauma I would endure from the admin and mistreatment they would give, I would've never went. They do not belong in schools. The teachers, though (middle school) are good. They supported me. But even that isn't enough to make me like the school as a whole. Listen to past students when they tell you the school is bad. Listen and make the right call. There were many lockdowns in years after I graduated as well. This is a bad school that in it's core couldn't care less about it's students.

DO NOT send your kids here. They are so many safety concerns after the new administration took over 2022. Teachers leaving after school has started, lockdowns every few months, bullying out of control, violating overcrowded classroom laws as well as the right for children to use the bathroom. Not to mentioning the unproffesionalism from administration and the office. They do not want you to advocate for your child and when you do they get rude and upset. Your child will be sign as a dollar sign and not care about their actual education. The only reason its an a school is because of a change in policy. They do not want to address any safety concerns or any of your concerns and you do not speak English then I am sorry but your beneath this administration.

My husband and I have 2 children that attended Henderson. Our daughter graduated a few years ago and currently our 4 grader is loving school.
I find that every school has concerns but if you have a problem you should address the teachers or administrators. Complaining on a website does nothing, and you are not helping your child.
Parents need to start teaching their children respect. I have been at school activities and see how students talk to adults and each other.
Not acceptable.
Start being a parent and stop complaining the grass is not always greener.

After reviewing several of the previous comments, I would have to disagree with some of the comments. As a parent of 2 children who have been in attendance at Henderson since KG and are now in 6th grade and 8th grade I am happy with the outcome. They are offering High School credits, teaching my child about planning and organization. The communication between some teachers are better than others, but that is in any school. Some believe the grass is greener on the other side but truthfully the stories I have heard from friends in district schools are no better. Uniform cost has ALWAYS been the same. You are now able to wear non-logo sweaters (without hoodies). Every school has their challenges and I do believe if you approach with a problem come up with a solution. Students have a full-time Mental health counselor on campus if they are having a rough day. You have those parents who are involved and those who have been with the school for years and are still clueless of their child's grades. I have been fortunate to be a bit more involved and I also seek to understand the challenges teachers may face. Reflection is the key!

If negative or 0 stars were an option, I would choose that. The principal has got to go. Principal is rude, and based on some of these recent reviews, I see I am not alone. The office staff is rude, unprofessional, and extremely difficult to work with. Teachers my child has had werent all terrible, some were. Poor leadership leads to poor execution among the school, so I cant blame the teachers. They are horrible at communication and getting back to you in a timely manner, half the teachers dont know whats going on most of the time, and its just a mess. My child has attended since 2nd grade and is now in 6th grade. When he started I loved the school, but ever since the current principal took over, its gone way down hill. Uniforms are ridiculous and way took expensive. The fact that they can only wear a CSUSA jacket is dumb. The jackets are way too expensive, not great quality, and can easily be stolen by another child if not embroidered with your childs name, yes this happen to my child so I had to buy a new one and get it embroidered. Lunches are stupid expensive if you dont qualify for the free/reduced lunch and its kids say the food is terrible. They want your money for every little thing. And the school supplies list is outrageous.
The school is so unorganized, this year more than ever. For them to begin the school year without fully scheduling students in the middle school portion is crazy to me, and apparently this happens every year. Kids were missing multiple classes from schedule and would have to go to the office to have them tell them a class to go to for their missing periods until they fully scheduled. I am glad I will be pulling my child out of this school this year because it is a mess.

The principal is rude and has no respect for parents. She will engage in retaliation with her staff on the carline. She doesnt communicate as an adult instead she goes after your child. Also the science teacher is rude and screams and yells at the students in class. She uses intimidations and threatened the students if they dont do what she says. They also discriminate if your child as special needs.

Bullying at this school is out of control. Principal has never reached out to us directly. Instead she has had her assistants call or email us. We were told each student was assigned their own iPad to use at school and for homework- however that proved untrue. No iPads were assigned for use at home for extra studies. We were also told Spanish and Computer sciences were going to be taught. Both were dropped. Musical theater was also supposed to be offered- that was also cancelled. We are very disappointed. We let the charter schools of USA know when they sent home their parent survey- and they didn't reach out either. The teachers are good and caring but they need the support of administration to make real changes. Seems to me that test scores and college readiness are all that matter at this place and not to provide a safe learning environment for each child.

This school is Horrible . The sad thing is my daughter loves this school. I have not been able to get in touch with her teacher since the day school started. We have sent emails made calls and left notes in her folder in both English and Spanish. The secretary at the front desk is horrible with people. She is rude and will flat out ignore you. The administration at this school is no better. They don't respond to you and then when you go in person the get mad you don't have an appointment. How am I suppose to make an appointment when I get no response. Another child stole my daughters thermos and the teacher did nothing. And we have no way to contact the teacher to get this issue resolved. I've read that this school has a really bad turn over with administration. I can totally see why.

I am new to this school. It's only been in session about a week and a half. Education so far I would give a 5. Everything else is what made me deduct 1 star. The school only has one way in. The first week it was taking me 1-1 1/2 hours to drop and pickup my daughter and the school is 5 min. away from my home. I also understand that this is a charter school however, there is no room for individuality. I am all for uniforms but I think the kids should be able to wear appropriate shoes and socks of any color. Also, there are alot of things you have to pay extra for and you have to buy their monogrammed uniforms from the one place in Tampa and it's expensive in my opinion. I know it's just the first week but these are things I wish I knew before hand in order to make a more informed decision.

I am an educator here at Henderson Hammock and I truly love my job because of the family atmosphere. The teachers are caring and motivated to help all students. The leadership is supportive and open to new ideas. There is a great display of comradery and professionalism. There are multiple clubs and sports programs for our students to participate in helping to build an amazing foundation for our students to be successful adults one day.

I am an educator here at Henderson Hammock. I truly love coming to work each morning because of the family atmosphere at our school. The faculty, parents, and students are so supportive and excited to try new things. There are dozens of after school programs, as well as sports programs, for our students to particpate in. There is an evident amount of comradery that keeps us all motivated and supporting eachother!

Henderson Hamock is a wonderful school, my grandson loves going to school every day. He loves his teacher!
Posted: October 15, 2014
Great school and it keeps getting better each year. My daughters absolutely love going to this school. Eventhough I don't spend much time at school due to work, I have open communication with the teachers and the principal. We as parents need to learn that if we have an issue with the school, we need to talk to the school directly to get a solution. Talking bad about the school to other parents is not going to fix the problems.
Posted: October 15, 2014
This is our third year at this school. My son has loved every year. The environment is very family-like, firm, education based, but incredibly fun. The teachers seem to love their jobs, and the children, and the administration, and it shows. The extra-curricular activities are primarily for middleschoolers. I love the uniforms, encourages the focus on education, not fashion. While I do wish that carline wasn't such a frequent complaint, the school is doing amazing when you consider that they have almost 1200 students, and they are almost ALL dropped off, unlike most schools that transport students using buses. Most of all, I think that parents need to remember that we all CHOSE this school, and PARENTS need to do their share, as the school is certainly doing more than theirs.
Posted: September 25, 2014
I used to be a student here during their second year and I hated it. Everything the first year was wonderful! Seems like my teachers just pick favorites. The kids here are so mean! I have great friends though but I hate how the carline is set up too! They don't let us talk at lunch, or in the hall! We only have recess half of the year in our middle school year. A couple of the teachers are really snotty. I hate how this school is set up. 25 kids per class? Really? That's way too much. In my new school, there's 15 per class. I hate the company and when I'm older I WILL NEVER send anyone here.

I am a student at Henderson hammock it's fun there but the teaches not that much they threaten little kids but it would be fun if the principal wasn't so stubborn to let us have younger teaches because old teaches have no active ness in them but don't get me wrong I love this school it's just boring unlike mr.Epstein the principal is just copying every thing from 2years ago but my name is common every kid knows me and teaches my name is ........

I don't ever write reviews but I am sick and tired of some parents who take things to the extreme. My son has been a student here for 2 years, there have been some bumps but nothing that has not been addressed and solved in a timely way. The car line has gotten much better and they work on it all the time. Principle is different from last year but not bad. When I see her she knows all kids by name and is very open and approachable. As soon as I walk into the office they know who I am and my kid. It is a close knit environment and that is what I was looking for. He is doing very well in school and has learned so much. Common core well every school will be getting that so deal with it. I like that there is more structure and I find it easy to communicate. They do have PE. AND my kid comes home every week with the new Spanish words he learned. He is offered chorus and other electives after school. I feel you get out if things what you put in. If you come on here and throw the F Bombs everywhere I can see what kid of attitude you are going in with to take care of your issues at the school. Maybe take a different approach.. That goes for any school you decide to put your kids in.
Posted: March 20, 2014
Extremely poor communication. My son has been attending for two years. Even though last year was the schools first year I thought everything went well. Sure there were hiccups, but problems got fixed. I received an email from the principal every other day, some were repetitive but at least I was aware what was going on! Then they decided to move the principal and the vice principal moved up. I can count on two hands how often I've heard from her all year. Unless it's a fundraiser, which happens every other week. Then they bombard you asking for money. Yet they are still unclear on details. There was recently a Jump for Heart fundraiser, I received two flyers telling my son what he can get if people donate so much money, still have no idea when it is. For all I know it could be over. They also decided to get a new online system, which is bizarre since it took half of last school year to get that one working right. This one doesn't tell you anything about what's going on, except your child's grades, if the teacher updates as they should. Lastly, my son has been taking Spanish for two years there, can't say anything. Apparently they watch a lot of movies. Very frustrating this year.

No communication. I'm asking for help and nobody care. I am a mom with 2 babies and my son who is in the first grade. It is very frustrated to do HW for my babies; they cry, etc. I asked to many times for help and nobody helps me :( . Bad communication.

I'm a 7th grade student at HHCS and I love this school. The teachers are on top of our work. I have been in that school since 2012. And I love it. The thing I dislike is the PDA rule. No hugging, high fives,or etc. Really I think (and every single middle school student) that's messed up . But I guess that's what it is.

I have a 2nd and 6th grader in this school and both enjoy it. My oldest follows an IEP and his teachers are generally supportive. There are a couple of teachers who do not communicate as much as i would like about his academic challenges but, overall, very happy. I get daily emails from 3 teachers, i speak to 1 a few times a week in car line and his aide is easily accessed via email. The curriculum is challenging and relevant. My youngest has an attentive and very involved teacher ......she communicates any issues in a timely manner and works quickly to resolve any concerns i have. My biggest wish is that the teachers wore uniforms but that's a personal preference. Pick up and drop off are a traffic challenge....but Given the choices in my district, Henderson was an easy choice. We will recommit next year. Yes, they have frequent fund raiser and it does require a minimum amount of involvement from parents, but it is no worse then other schools. The uniforms are about 30.00 a set but I've only had to buy 3 sets, the office attendant advised me to just rotate them through the season as opposed to buying new ones for the brief cold (even if they do get a percetage back)

Its like a Small Prison, No facilities, No x-tra curricular activities, Student dont get BOOKS, there is tutoring, Teachers are Marginal, and uninformed, and some are just Trouble makers, Some just go through the motions, Bad location, would not recommend.

I have not been very impressed by this school and the faculty and staff at all this year. Car lines for pick up and drop off are extremely slow to the point where they cause severe congestion on the main roads. The school has not yet adopted a way to fix this. Our child's kindergarten teacher is unsupportive and has a rude attitude. Lunch is hectic and most days my child comes home with her lunch box full and starving since she didn't get enough time to eat. Money is everything for this school. I get at least 1 email a week asking for donations, money, ect. For example, to wear a non uniform shirt on fridays the kids have to pay! Are you kidding me? I think that if the school administrators focused more on education and not so much on money and what type of belt the kids are wearing they would have better outcomes. Also, if your child is going into the younger classes be careful. At car line I actually witnessed a staff member usher my 5 year old into the wrong car. I am NOT planning on having my child in this school next year. Do your child a favor and apply to different charter schools in the area that has their things in order.

I am very impressed with this school. My wife and I are extremely satisfied with the academics, student body, and friendly staff. The teachers are phenomenal and support students education 100%. Our daughter has greatly improved on all levels and has been an honor roll student since she has begun. Very pleased with what Henderson has to offer!

My son attended kindergarten this year. He teacher was phenomenal. So impressed with everything that he learned this year. She was always opened and available when needed. Some chaos at the beginning of the year but everything smoothed out by the end of the year.

I have two children that attend to two different grades, the teachers assigned to them always answered my questions and helped me with any difficulties they were going through, I highly recommend this school, not onlny in the academic area but the recreational, as my kids learn and have fun, because the school is responsible to have a good balance when they entertain and educate my children.

As with all new schools there were a few speed bumps along the way, but overall it was a good first year. My child was at a public school for the first 3 years and transferred to HHCS and I am glad we made the switch. My child had some academic struggles this year, but I do not fault HHCS, I fault his past school. My child s teacher has worked hard to get my child back on track and has involved us every step of the way! I have had contact with the administrative staff, teachers, Asst Principal and the Principal and have found them to be very helpful and supportive. If I had one thing that I would like to see improvement on that would be the SIS (Student Information System). I would like to see the class/homework assignments posted the first day of the 9 weeks so I could prepare and help my child if I see struggles with the assigned work prior to a grade for the work being given. I d like to thank all the staff at HHCS for a GREAT Inaugural year!

School is over croweded for the lower level grades. 25 students per teacher in rooms that are too small. School makes big promises but doesn't deliver. Not time for the teachers to focus on the idividaul students. Check teacher qualifications. School started hiring unqualified teachers because they couldn't keep the certified teachers. Great ideas for school but lacks basic supplies.
