Worst school ever I just started this school and Ive made some friends but most kids weird and make weird jokes taking about having esx everyday, its definitely will effect your childs mental health if they dont fit in at the school, also theres plenty of kids doing drugs at this school talking about, how much would it be to buy a vape from so and so so I would not recommend this school for you kids safety, mental health, etc I would do online school or literally any other school and also, teacher dont do anything or barley teach

This is the worst school ive ever been too, it ruined my mental health i got bullied for my intrests. i cried everyday and did not wanna go to school, the bullying here is absolutely insane, do not take your child to this school there are many safer ones. there rules may seem strict but the teachers dont do anything to help i asked for help so many times they did not care i got detention for no reason, the subsitute teachers are the worst they dont even teach they just let you play on your phone. A chill sub is nice every once in awhile but this is just pathetic, you cant even teach which leads the students to fail, the students get to so many fights there has been many hostpital incidents trips in the hallways vaping smoking everything you do not want your teenager to be doing at the ripe age of 12, yes there isnt many good middle schools but i would recommend any other one, with more safety rules. the bullys will frame you theres so much bullying pencils were thrown at me gum my stuff was destroyed my stuff got stolen so dont bring anything nice or anything that means alot to you because the kids there are used to stealing, the bathroom rule is messed up it could of been so much better and improved the teaching system sucks the amount of classes you have to change just to get a good teacher and it never turns out to even be good in the end, this school has been around for so long and it shocks me they even had to remove the bathroom trashcan cause the behavior issues with students are that bad as a germaphobe the school isnt the best love the janitors they try there best but the kids purposely make messes its hard to make friends here, if your looking to work here i dont recommend it the teachers dont last long they quit fast because the kids will bully and harrass you, any staff doesnt last long unfortunately unless your lucky.

I am a parent of a student here for 2023-2024. This school is terrible, if you can have your child attend a different school, I highly suggest it. It seems that a lot of schools in Brevard County receive funding based on how rich the area is (looking at you Viera). Brevard County is the 16th richest county by per capita income in Florida. There is no reason why JMS should be falling apart and having a teacher crisis. Title 1 schools should be given much more resources for student development (behavioral, intervention) as well.
This year alone, my child has gone through many teachers, as teachers were reassigned or quit in the middle of the year. My child has gone through three Civics teachers this year alone and two Math teachers. The administration treats the students with contempt and pick on them. Unless they are a favorite student, the rest of them are treated harshly.
There is a drug (marijuana/nicotine that I know of) problem here. My child has mentioned many times that people are using drugs in both boys and girls bathrooms, and that girls hide vapes in their bra so they can't be found when they are searched. My child also made friends with another child who introduced my child to marijuana and so now my child has gotten high at the age of 12. Great.
Back to the administration - I have tried contacting them to discuss situations my child has been involved in, but they don't return my calls/emails. My child was also given a referral by the bus driver which was not investigated, the bus driver issued the referral based on information a student said to them. So instead of watching the surveillance from the bus camera (you know, FOR PROOF), the bus driver issued a referral based on hearsay from another student. When I tried contacting the transportation dept and the school admin multiple times, the issue wasn't resolved.
This school needs a lot of work with regards to classroom management, training for teachers and staff on how to properly interact with middle schoolers with care/mentorship in mind, and upgraded facilities. Many times the bathrooms are closed because students have soiled the bathrooms to the point where it needs to be fully cleaned prior to next use. It's really sad that our students are subjected to this type of environment when they should be mentored and inspired to be better instead of perpetuating the delinquency cycle.
Bottom line: DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD TO THIS SCHOOL.

I'm a student here at Johnson and I feel safe but, I've had altercations with kids who don't like me, and I have told teachers about it many times, and most of the time they didn't do anything.

The school is cool. I love the star program. I think it's cool for all of the star teachers to have a morning day to help out kids.

There really isn't much good I can say about Johnson Middle School. They have a great music program for a middle school, but besides that, it's just not a great school. The vast majority of teachers don't care, and the principal isn't very involved. Lots of fights happen here, and student discipline isn't enforced well at all. Like the previous review said, unless you're in the STAR program, they really don't care about you. Also, JMS scored relatively low on the FCAT compared to other schools in the area, and they really only seem to be concerned with getting kids out there and sending them to high school, and they don't do a great job of preparing students for the next level. If you are considering moving to the Melbourne area, please don't send your student to JMS. I attended this school several years ago, and I'm glad it's over.

My daughter is in the STAR program at JMS and I cannot conceive of a better education than what she is getting. The teachers in the program are basically very caring and do everything they can to help the kids succeed. They are very timely with their posts on edline - keeping parents in the educational loop. I have been extremely disappointed in the way her elective classes are conducted; EVERYTHING I just said about the STAR program and teachers is the opposite in her elective classes: teachers don't seem to care, kids do next to nothing in these classes, teachers don't stay in contact with parents - regardless of any issues that arise. An example: Office is staff is fine.
