This is my first year here and I've enjoyed every aspect of the school just about. This school is very well, socially and academically this school is great, and this is coming from a student on AB honor roll and I'm not "socially out of touch" or however parents describe it. It has been a rough start to the year, yes. But what do you expect from their second year, mandarin middle has been around since my mom's school years and they have many flaws till this day. I believe this is gonna be a good year, dr.Webbster is an awesome principle. The teachers are good all and all. They have the right ideas on teaching perspectives and technology use and restrictions. The uniform isn't really that bad, I mean red and tan really isn't that bad. There isn't any "negative" susubstancesbstances in or around the school campus. Like many other schools,and all the teachers all and all are cool, none of them are strict but we are constantly reminded of our limits and they do in force them. I just can't wait till the first few weeks end and we get normal lunches:-)

I highly recommend this school to other parents. My child has had such a positive experience here so far. They’ve been learning new things every day, and the environment is so supportive. In the past, my child has faced bullying at other schools, but I’m grateful to say that this school has created a safe and caring atmosphere. It’s really made a difference for us.

This school is a horrible and unprofessional institution. The teachers, staff, and admin are lazy and disrespectful and all funds raised by the school do not go to education but instead the untalented basketball team. There is no special ed program but multiple students that need it and they do not follow 504 plans. The school is completely unsafe. One instance is the front office staff let a man in to the school with an axe. There has been multiple bomb threats and poor safety measures. They have poor communication and lie about situations. They favor certain students no matter what they do. The staff speaks with children about other children or staff causing drama with children instead of stopping the bullies. This school is absolutely horrible and should be cut from ducal county funding.

I’ve been at this school since middle school, and now that I’ve officially graduated, I wanted to share my experience—the good, the bad, and everything in between.

Over the years, the school has changed a lot. We barely had any senior activities or pep rallies like we used to. When I first started, it felt like a close-knit family, but ever since the new building and new principal came in, that feeling disappeared. The environment became distant, and honestly, it just wasn’t the same.

Unless you’re in basketball or theater, it’s easy to feel overlooked or excluded. It’s like those two groups are all that get attention or support, and everyone else just has to figure things out on their own. The staff definitely play favorites, and most won’t go out of their way to help unless you approach them first.

Fighting in the bathrooms became a regular thing, and most of the time, people got away with it. There was barely any accountability. Since it’s such a small school, drama spreads fast—you’ll hear everyone’s business whether you want to or not. And sadly, a lot of the staff are rude or just disconnected from the students. They don’t take the time to understand us or what we’re dealing with.

Even with all that, I tried to make the most out of my senior year. I want to give a special thank you to the few people who genuinely cared and helped make my time there better:
Mr. Bassford, Coach Grant, Coach Taylor, Mr. Santos, Ms. Renee, and Mr. Joiner — thank you for always bringing a smile to my face, whether it was through your teaching or just the little moments in the hallway. You didn’t go unnoticed.

Poor communication from staff as well as principal. My daughter has been bulled on numerous occasions. After this school year I will be withdrawing both of my children from San Jose Prep and primary.

Overall we have had a very positive experience at San Jose prep. My daughter has thrived at this school. She went from a public school where she was being bullied and had become a bit of an introvert to being an extrovert and very social and dare I say popular. She gets a lot of support from her teachers and I enjoy how they use technology to keep me informed about her behaviors and any changes they have noticed. The teachers are great with communicating with parents. Honestly the best thing I did was to send my child to the school. Even with the changes in leadership I am still an avid supporter and fan of the school and the administration. The teachers really care for the students. I never feel as if my child is being pushed through or brushed off. They have a lot of fun events and activities. I definitely give them high marks

The homework given will clarify the information you learn in class if you didn't understand so we agree it is effective.

If a teacher sees you struggling they will go out of their way to help you. They genuinely care if you pass or fail. My daughter has had teachers who have stayed after hours to help her understand the work.

This really depends upon the student. I agree that there are good role models in the school however ultimately it's up to the student and their parents to build those character traits.

We have to give low marks on this one. Every year since my daughter has been going to the school they have had a new principal. And it seems as though the new principal has to clean up the messes from the old principal. This of course has caused instability. I expected a bit of turnover but the constant turnover is a disappointment. Is difficult to establish a vision when the leadership continues to change your over a year.

The school really acknowledges that children learn in different ways and they go out of their way to accommodate various learning styles

When there is a serious case of bullying such as physical abuse or cyber abuse the school takes Swift action. However if it's just general name calling they pretty much take a softer stance. If it is a reoccurrence then they take a harder stance.

Great school. The teachers actually care about the students sure it has had its fair share of ups and downs, but the school has new leadership the future is promising.

My child spent 1.5 years at this school. I pulled him out half way through this year. He was highly discouraged and failing. They may have a "small school environment," but the classes are overcrowded. He had one great teacher the entire time he was there. Most of the teachers are inexperienced. I regret sending him there. He went to his assigned public school for the last half of the school year and in that short period of time learned more than he did the entire time he was at this school. Also, at his assigned public school, he passed the Algebra PERT and English FSA. And the assigned school had way better technology than this school, tons of electives, real lunches, the classes aren't overcrowded, it's a B rated school and he has a guidance counselor. Go figure! I would not recommend this school to anyone.

School is a disgrace. The way the staff, students and parents are treated is terrible. School is going under a financial dispute now. Teachers are ask to find positions elsewhere. School is on a spiral loop downward.

They seem not to show enough good patience with students. Everytime you ask for assistance they do not have a feeling of caring not helping.

Hi I am a current student of San Jose 2015-2016 in my Junior Yeat been there for 2 years. I must say that school is still on going bad and all the courses are all a serious joke. There are not stable with student's schedules, the administration can be rude, and this school doesn't have extra help services to help out any student with academic issues. The rules of this school is just ridiculous and the promised technology policy is now abolished gone. When I first began here I thought this school was going to get better, since it was very disorganized. The result of this is that almost everyone failed the Algebra I EOC exam. Now 2 years has passed with new administration, and stil they don't keep their promises.

This is my son's first year at San Jose Academy and he loves it. The teachers and staff members are very helpful. You can really see they enjoy what they do! I strongly recommend this school to anyone seeking a great education for their children come see for yourself.

I hate this school don't EVER go here they will ruin your year!! That's what this school did to me. It's too much to explain what the disrespectful teachers said and did to me and my class. How they treated us. Your very lucky to come to this review or you would of got in some big trouble!!

San Jose Academy is a brand new Charter school. As a parent, I know with new schools, hurdles will exist. However, every hurdle that was put in front of them, they were able to get over them and move on. The small class atomosphere is perfect. The ability to learn in a virtual world on tablets, laptops, and computers are perfect for this day and age. Dr. Webster, the staff, and teachers work very hard to make the school wonderful for the children. This is by far the best choice I have made for my daughter. I tell everyone how great the school is. Don't miss out on this opportunity.

When I first thought about enrolling my daughter in a charter school I was a bit apprehensive; however, after meeting Dr. Mary Webster, I could not have dreamed of a better place for my daughter to learn. She is advanced and constantly looking for new challenges; the teachers go above and beyond to help find new opportunities for her to learn and grow. The students learn through technology, using laptops and tablets in every class. The clubs and activities are as diverse as tthe students, allowing them to learn how to lead in a save environment. Also, as a parent, I enjoy knowing my child is not bullied or exposed to the unhealthy peer pressure her friends are experiencing at other schools. My only criticism of the school is they have had quite a bit of teacher turnover this year. I am hoping this changes in 2014-2015.

This school gets two thumbs down. They are very unorganized and a waste of time. The plan for this school should have been thought out a little better. The bad outweigh the good.... I'm very disappointed!
