Viera Charter is the worst school my children have ever attended. To start, the diversity at this school is below state average, which means staff should work harder to make sure minority children are seen and protected (lots of racism here!). Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. It became evident after my son was forced to apologize for a joke, while my daughter, who was called out of her name via text messages and teased countless times, was pushed under the rug. Following this, my second daughter was physically assaulted multiple times a week, and her teacher attempted to frame it as an accident. After reporting it to the responding sheriff, we were instead tone-policed as he spoke to us condescendingly, leading nearby staff who witnessed to apologize to us for his behavior. Since removing my children from the school, their light has returned. Do not be fooled by the rating, which does not guarantee your child's mental and emotional health. Choose love over infrastructure.

I would not recommend this school based on our experience. Over time, we observed a decline in both academic quality and overall organization.

From an academic perspective, the teaching approach often relied heavily on repetitive practice rather than clear instruction. In our experience, students were given a high volume of work without enough guidance to fully understand the material, which made it difficult for some to keep up.

There were also ongoing concerns with staffing and consistency. Substitute teachers, especially in long-term situations, did not always seem prepared to manage the classroom or continue instruction effectively.

Communication and engagement from administration felt limited. It was often difficult to get timely or helpful responses, and there seemed to be a lack of visibility from leadership.

Operationally, several areas could use improvement:

Front office interactions were sometimes slow or unhelpful
Dismissal procedures during weather-related shelter in place situations felt disorganized
Aftercare is costly but did not appear to provide structured or educational programming

Additionally, there seemed to be a stronger focus on minor disciplinary issues rather than improving the overall educational experience.

On a positive note, we did have a good experience with at least one administrator who was professional and responsive.

Overall, this school did not meet our expectations in terms of academic rigor, communication, or organization. I would encourage families to carefully research and ask detailed questions before enrolling. Look beyond the test scores, and consider your child's transition to another school after their time here, and how they may experience issues.

We initially loved this school, but over time, serious and ongoing issues have become impossible to ignore. While there are a few strong teachers, the overall consistency and quality of supportespecially this yearhas been extremely disappointing.

There is a clear lack of knowledge and understanding when it comes to supporting students with learning disabilities. From our very first IEP-related interaction, questions were met with defensiveness instead of collaboration. Rather than working toward solutions, concerns are often dismissed or made worse.

Communication with staff has been consistently unprofessional. Parents who ask questions or advocate for their child should not feel intimidated, yet that has been our experience. Even minor concerns are met with resistance, creating an environment where speaking up feels discouraged.

Operationally, the school is just as concerning. Car line and pick-up are routinely chaotic and poorly managed. Delays are common, yet students are still marked tardy for issues caused by the school itself.

There are clearly deeper systemic issues here, and there does not appear to be accountability or urgency to fix them. We had high hopes, but based on our experience, we would not recommend this school.

Our children attended this school for 4 years and were doing very well initially. We were happy with their progress until recent developments caused serious concern. We began noticing teachers leaving in the middle of the school year, and it became clear that the schools focus had shifted more toward discipline than education.

Our recent interactions with the administration raised red flags. The school appears to operate more like a business than an educational institution. It is family-owned and run by individuals with construction backgrounds, and recent actions by leadership seem more focused on protecting the business than supporting students and families.

We started receiving communications over very minor issues. As we looked deeper, it became apparent that teachers were under-supported, leading to increased stress in the classroom. We observed and heard reports of teachers becoming emotionally reactive toward students, particularly boys. We also became aware of concerns involving inappropriate physical handling of students, which is extremely troubling.

One specific incident involved our son being removed from class for saying its rigged during a wheel game used to select a zoo trip chaperone. The teacher interpreted this as an accusation of cheating and reacted by removing him from the classroom and sending us a nasty gram which we couldnt understand the emotional force with if this happens again, there will be high consequences. From our perspective, our son and other boys were expressing frustration that the process felt unfair to them. Rather than addressing those feelings constructively, the situation escalated emotionally.

When we raised concerns about how the boys were feeling, the teacher indicated she had asked students if they were being treated fairly a situation where most children would not feel comfortable speaking up honestly.

To her credit, the teacher later recognized she had not fully considered the boys feelings and appeared genuinely interested in improving the classroom environment. Our son even shared that things had begun to improve.

Unfortunately, despite these efforts at the classroom level, the administration continued to prioritize protecting the school over working collaboratively with parents to ensure a healthy emotional and learning environment for all students. This lack of partnership and accountability ultimately led us to lose confidence in the schools ability to put students first.

Absolutely horrible school when it comes to dealing with children with special needs (our child is autistic). if your child isn't a perfect little angel they don't even want to give them the time of day to help them succeed. They will act like they care and have a meeting with you to try to "help" your child do better, but then you quickly notice that the whole meeting basically blowing smoke up your butt, because the very next school day they throw everything out the window that everyone talked about in that meeting and call to have you come pick up your child because they went against everything that was talked about in said meeting and sent them into a full autistic meltdown. We thought sending our child to a charter school instead of a public school would be a better environment for a child with autism, but we are starting to notice now that is definitely not the case. 0 out of 10 absolutely would not recommend. Dealing with all of this in just my child's kindergarten year makes me worry his future in education if the people who are supposed to be there to help a child to succeed are giving up so easily and just kicking his can down the road hoping someone else will just pick it up.

My child went one year for 6th grade and the entire atmosphere of the school from the staff was uninviting, cold, rude, annoyed. Very few teachers and staff stood out. Front office staff is awful. Theres not pleasantries ever. The kids behavior while chaperoning a field trip solidified what my child had been telling me was going on in classes. It was so loud on the bus with zero corrections from teachers. The students during the educational trip were rude to the presenters and were not corrected by teachers but by the actual presenters. The school has a bullying problem that the teachers do nothing about. And if you have an ESE student, the ESE teachers ask the student if they want services and when the child says no, the teacher will leave and say an 11 year old declined services. The school does not prepare students for higher level grades. The whole attitude of the school is stressful. The people are simply not nice. There are a few stand out teachers and staff but it should be the other way around. I honestly do not recommend this school at all. There are better educational opportunities in other schools that also have a more friendly environment. This school is hyped up for reasons Ill never understand. Big no from me. My child is a completely different person this year at a different school.

This school neglects the children's mental state and the teachers are flat out horrendous, this is supposed to be a school not a wannabe prison cell. This is not a recommended school towards any children nor adult.

It is our second year at the school and we are very satisfied with the level of education. You might find the lower grades a bit too serious for the kids' age (more recess or play time would be better!) but altogether great experience. A clean and safe school with high standards. Amazing musical theatre program (Middle school)! We also love the Cambridge program (MS), the Writing club, the cross country/ track and basketball program. Lots of clubs and afterschool activities for the students. Great opportunities if the parents want to be involved.

We've been with the school for 4 years now and have had amazing teachers! Communication has been great both in Elementary and Middle and I know if we need anything, I just need to reach out. We love all the extra sports available especially at the middle school level where public schools offer almost nothing. I also like that the activity classes include spanish, technology/typing, and steam along with the more typical ones.
My littles would like swings or a gaga ball pit and a functioning library. As parents, we'd like more buses to cut the car traffic down, and an expansion to high school would be awesome. Also some punishments seem to be a tad lax and/or uneven for middle schoolers. These kids who are constantly disrespectful and disruptive need to be shown the exit door.

Very disappointed with key leadership and administrative staff that appear to use the system in their favor relative to their best interest or their family members who attend. I will say the highlight of our kids experience at VCS were all related to a few good leaders/coaches that no longer are there as well as some really good teachers whom are still there......for now. I would say the curriculum is fairly challenging at times but can be very subjective to the teacher's interests/belief system and party affiliation.

We had to remove one of our children from a teachers class for using subjective material that we considered inappropriate. But our main concerns and ultimately the deciding factor to not attend next year related to how the administration and leadership handle bullying incidents. Our child was bullied on several different occasions and was not handled very well, quickly or accurately with "investigation" that was biased. I don't believe the staff is even trained to handle bullying events and should be trained in better practices to better help their students.

Finally, the sports teams and clubs seem to be a very positive outlet for our kids and would recommend those extracurricular activities but please review all the posts on this review thread as there seems to be trends that have not been resolved over the years. Further, there are several faux reviews around the same day to counter a poor entry that seem to be a fair assessment and similar to what I have experienced. I would not recommend this school if you have other options that may be more favorable for your child's long term success and preparation for High School.

Most people i know that have been to public school dislike this school and so do I.The dress code is horrible.For middle school, there are one way hallways so you have to walk the longest way to go to a classroom.The playground is awful too, there are no swings.And when I was going to get to go here I thought there were vending machines and delicious food eveyday, and they removed the vending machines.And the people are pretty rude but the school cant control that BUT there is favoritism like one of my teacher gave one part of he class hot cocoa and the rest nothing when the rest of the class did nothing wrong...I suggest you go to quest elementary or john f kennedy middle.

Our children have attended this school since their kindergarten year, they have done well and have had excellent support from the teachers and staff. I feel they are very well prepared for moving on to high school. There are many diverse extra curricular activities offered as well. The school offers the Cambridge Program from Elementary through Middle School and really encourages organization and age appropriate student responsibility. There is a great feeling of community at this school!

Terrible. The pick up and drop off situation at the school is horrific. Many parents wait over 30 minutes to pick up their child. Homework is more of that than other schools and leaves little time for extracurricular activities in the evenings. Teachers do not have the appropriate oversight of other stuff and 504/IEPs are overlooked. The school also tries to push out students with special needs and inform them of different places they can go for educational needs.

We have had some issues with bullying and the leadership at the top seem to sweep it under the carpet. There is a situation going on now for example with one in particular that comes to mind with a boy who went around bullying another boy who is a little different. The bully seemed to get away with it because the parents are big into the school.

My child goes to this school for 2 yrs now and she is in 7th grade. We are concerned because she is in advanced classes which the school said she is qualified, however I have to pay for tutors in math because I never see homework being assigned.

First you need to get rid of the front desk folks who are very rude and unprofessional. Secondly, when a child wins an honor award maybe you should ensure she gets it even during ceremonies. This just discouraged my child when, not once but several times during quarterly ceremonies her name was left off the list for honor student.

No very good. The fact that if a child gets below a graed of "D" they are allowed to make corrections on the test to bring that grade up, which ultimatly can change the grade on the report card. Not certain if this is a Florida thing, but in college and work a lot of times you cannot do that. Looking into other schools around that we could put her into next year.

We have three kids at Viera Charter and we are very happy with the school and teachers, I can only say good things about this school. My kids love going to school every day. If I had to improve something would be to implement higher security and stricter norms for students during field trips.

This maybe what the school wants all the good qualities but the kids need to disciplined for behavior more than code of jackets which is opposite than the hand book. It's cold and kids can only wear this or that. Handbook says otherwise and school says the opposite. Work on character and teach kids and talk about character to kids by positive reinforcement instead.

Although some are good, those teachers are only a hand full. The others don't communicate are hard to reach and are usually for the 7th grade. they are not approachable to the kids as they speak rudely. If a child isn't misbehaved then there is no need for that .

I waited and finally got my child in, middle school . However they have no proper standards for academics. Very very poor communications from teachers. When I dropped off important projects they call at the end of school so kids pick them, when they have a field trip and expect lots of money to be paid months in advance but only let us know 2-3 days before the trip to Tallahassee where my child stays and so on. We were going to cancel his field trip with frustration. Spanish teacher gives behavioral notification to a quiet child because other kids on the table are noisy . That was the first behavior complain about my quiet child since kindergarten. And she is always shouting and screaming which gives my child stress. Too many issues with the school. My advice is DONT use this school for middle school. Your child will be behind in academics for high school. My friend who is a high school teacher said "all charter school kids cannot catch up at all in high school they are too far behind" all the best !

We had high expectations for the school but they have failed to deliver. There is a lack of vision and leadership and the leadership is too concerned with making sure they follow Charter School Associates strict process than doing what is right for the children. No library, no shade, no real STEM program. Overall its not a terrible school its just not what you would expect from a Charter...If you factor in the whole package the other local elementary schools are better choices. They have nearly 1000 students and a waiting list because those waiting really do not not what they are waiting for.

We had very high aspirations for this school but after 2 years of waiting and hoping that they would implement the promised STEM curriculum we returned to our neighborhood school. Recommend that you read the reviews here cautiously ... many were written on the same day to overcome some poor reviews. If you do some research you will find that the FL DOE scores for VCS are well below Manatee and Suntree and have dropped every year since they opened. They "earned" a 67% in 2016 -- hardly an "A" school! There are many leadership challenges and the staff attrition is rate is terrible with 20+ wonderful teachers leaving after the first 2 years. The classrooms are small and crowded, there is no elementary art room or music room and the cafeteria is tiny. Science and computer labs that were supposed to be for all students have been converted to classrooms. There are 960 students in that one small building ... all so they could max out the money that they receive from the county. There is little to no proper curriculum provided by the management company and the "Dean of Curriculum" has no formal training in that area. Most of the teachers pull from material they have used in previous schools or handouts they find on the internet. The syllabus for all of the middle school classes is a disappointing "cut n paste" from the FL Standards. Many of the graduating 8th graders have sadly expressed frustration that they were ill prepared for high school. In 2015, only 60% of the 8th graders passed the FL DOE Science assessment. Don't be fooled by this school. Please know that there are much better options available in the county especially if you live in Viera.

We had a good experience overall, There are some things I think they are still trying to work through since it's a new school. I have read some of the reviews about this school on here and to be honest it's all about the teacher you get. My older son had a wonderful teacher who was exceptional. Our younger one had his teacher either "let go" or "fired" near the end of the year with no warning, so that was bad. There are going to be issues any where you go. They do need a library and a gym but I heard that is something they are working on. Once they get the YMCA built nearby it will be a huge plus since they will use it for activities. We are in the military and we are moving, but I would have continued my children's education there.

I am a teacher with the county myself and it took a lot to decide to send my child to VCS. Compared to where she was to go I would rather have her here. The person that said VCS is turning into Kennedy has never walked their halls or has spoken to any of the faculty there. Don't compare please. This has been the best year my daughter has had in a very long time, since third grade to be exact. No they do not have a library but if you have time to be on your facebook you can take your child to the library or to the bookstore. They do have plenty of textbooks, my daughter brings them home every day. She had career research and was at a computer during that quarter of the year doing research on many topics and trust me homework was not just stare at the screen. She has been pushed to the limit and has been given that thirst for learning again which she had lost. Her Reading teacher is wonderful, her math teacher has taught her things her 6th grade teacher never took the time to even bother with, and I could go on like with the band teacher which is AMAZING! Yes, there are some cons like in every school. If you were to tell me there was not I would call you a liar. Where I am at I have PLENTY to complain about if I were a parent there. We all do what is best for our kids and that is what should matter. Every school has some bad teacher and/or administration that treats parents with deeper pockets or have certain connections that they want to keep close. Believe me it happens in the public schools as well. Look around where you all live people, it is what's to be expected when you have some people walking around with their noses up in the air.

The school is great. I'm very disappointed in the reviews bc I've never been asked for money. I do the $1 two times a month fundraiser to dress down. That does offset the cost of the field trips I've learned first hand!
Only thing I'd change is a little more time bt class so the kids can use their lockers bc they hv so many books to carry! Also to add navy uniform
Bottoms to the dress code!

I have researched and found that some reviews were untruthful. I have 2 children in this school and have NEVER been told to pay $100.00 to keep my children there. And to say that there are no books in this school. I saw 2 backpacks during the school year with some books. My older child did say that there was a certain subject that had a class set. To that reviewer "Did your child NEVER bring home a book". A Kindergartner might not, but I know a 6th grader who did. The 2 other Elementary schools in the area have some books go home and some stay in the classroom. Fundraisers: Anyone at any school, Public or Charter, knows that at the Elementary level, the kids try to sell anything from Christmas wrapping to magazine subscriptions. I went and asked the front office clerk (who was nicer than the school secretary from last year) where does the money go? She told me it went to help pay for awards and field trips. I have no problem with that. I buy it because it makes my kids happy. It's not really a value but they're happy. I also asked her how many students went to the school and she said over 950. She also told me that the waiting list to get into the school is over 1000. If all the far-fetched comments some of the previous reviewers said were true, why are so many people still trying to get in. I would advise people who want to know more about Viera Charter, an "A" School", to not only read the reviews here but go on Facebook and other sources to see all the things the children do, the places they go, the clubs and sports they can attend to really know what's going on. Take a look at their Yearbook and you'll be surprised. The State FCAT results just came in this last Monday and not only did they surpass the Counties average, but the State as well! If the "focus" on "their education" wasn't apparent with this data, I don't know what is. If the negative "reviewers" weren't happy with the school, why not just leave. I'm sure there are always parents and children who just aren't happy at the school they attend. I like my students going to Viera Charter and would highly recommend it to others. And if you do go to a new school and aren't happy there either, don't hide behind a blog site and vent. Go to the school and talk to them about a problem or give them some positive feedback so they know that they are doing something right. Remember, "it takes a village."

We have to agree with the bad reviews. The administration at this school is unorganized and scattered. There are some good teachers but unfortunately the majority do not know what they are doing, and have little experience. My childs Spanish teacher speaks Spanish but cannot teach and she was deported this semester by the way...and yes if you look the majority of positive ratings for this school are "very similar" and written near the same date. This school is all about money, they actually told us we had to pay $100 to keep our child in this school for next year, Our child spent years at a public (non charter) school that was very well run, very organized, very professional. The contrast between schools is so extreme that even the children notice that something is not right. This year was the first year that our child was apathetic toward school and we believe a lot has to do with the focus on studying for the test and the schools scattered chaotic atmosphere. Relative to other schools in the area there are PROs (mainly teachers/students/staff) and CONs (mainly leadership/admin) to this school. One thing to keep in mind regarding this feedback/opinion mechanism is that most of the good reviews were written in a very similar manner on a single day (October 23, 2014). In order to avoid stakeholder opinions I would suggest a compilation of word-of-mouth insight from people who have been involved with the school lately.

This school looks great at first glance but it is obvious that they cater to and coddle the parents. The focus on the child's education is not a priority. It seems that they are afraid of the parents and are not willing to stand their ground to let them know what is developmentally appropriate and best for the child. If you are looking for a school that does not put your child's education first but is concerned with kissing your behind to get your donations then this is the school for you. Hope you all have some deep pockets:-) Very disheartening.

Many including myself have removed our children from this school which has fallen short on every promise made to the community. They proclaim to be a STEM school but they ask for money constantly to start it. Actually, they ask for money and supplies constantly. What public school gives you automatically they do not. There is NO LIBRARY, not a textbook in sight, teachers do not have teaching degrees, kids are mismanaged, and bullying is OUT OF CONTROL, they have NO counselors, and NO GIFTED SERVICES.

Teachers are not formally schooled. Leadership is inexperienced and it shows through out. Bullies are out of control, and behavior problems heightened, and school does a poor job at handling it. In my opinion, Public school is safer. Never have seen these issues there. BPS are very well run. STEM promises broken, no money, no books, no library, no equipment. Communication is terrible. Facebook is their method of communicating. Teachers are unprofessional in dealing with children. Sitting them facing the wall, or in time out. No confidentiality...loudspeaker is annoying. Classroom structure is poor and and inconsistent. Not conducive to children who need structure to be their best. Very disappointing.

Pros: teacher/parent communication, many clubs, quality teachers Cons: bullying is terrible (at least in 7th grade), not so much a zero tolerance school, official/parent communication, building lacks major structures This is a very average school. If it was truly a zero tolerance school, my family's experience here would be better. My 7th grade daughter has dealt with bullying from BOYS! We have never had bullying being an issue before. These are probably the same boys who have messed with other girls this year too. Officials need to deal with that situation better.

I am a teacher in the county and my son has attended this school for almost 2 years. He excels at math and loves science and technology and with the school advertising itself as a STEM school I thought it would be a perfect fit. It is not STEM at all. My elementary school age child has not done any technology related projects and in fact this school lags behind the local schools in that department. I have had my own students on the desktops, laptops, Chromebooks, and iPads several times this year. I am VERY disappointed and feel that this school is misrepresenting itself. They are always fundraising and I am suspicious that the heavy donors and ultra involved parents receive preferential treatment. They don't pay enough to attract quality teachers. My son did have great teachers last year, but after our experience with his current ones, we are removing him at the end of the year. There is nothing special about this school. It reminds me of a Prep school where worksheets and textbooks are the primary teaching tools. Where is the science and technology? Where is the enthusiasm? What happened to my child's love of learning?

I removed my children from this school. The leadership is experienced only with teaching elementary (never had a previous leadership role) and no one seems to know how to handle middle schoolers. If you are ok with Kennedy Middle School, I think this school is very comparable now. Not what they set out to be, but certainly what they are becoming. Do your homework and if you can overlook the lack of a library, I recommend stopping by unannounced at lunch time to hear the screaming that goes on and how the kids run the show. Leadership fails in a big way here.

I previously posted (and encouraged others to post) a positive review. I have now actually had to remove my FCAT 5 students from this school. The k-5 seem to be expierencing little difficulty, but after that there are real concerns. Foul language in the classrooms, bullying and some students even organized a large scale fight off campus. There is no zero tolerance policy and it seems many parents that are having behavior issues with their children are putting there kids in VCS hoping the school will "fix" their children. It just rapidly became a poor learning environment. I'm pretty upset about it. We really had high hopes for a great community school but it's plagued with poor leaders and children with behavior issues. Sad.

One word. unacceptable. My child has been bullied and has witnessed bullying and of course the staff ,dean, and the principal does nothing about it. My child has had a student (a boy)put there hands on her and she told the principle and he continues to go to the school without any punishment. My daughters friend has been getting bullied for a while and her friend told the Dean but of course again they do nothing! How many situations do you need in order to do something and take action.

My daughter goes to VCS and this is her second year. We love it! The first year was a little messy with administration and teacher changes but that was expected. This year has been so much better and I can see will only keep getting better. It's a great addition to the Viera community. The parents are all involved and the teachers are really amazing. I love all of the extra sports and clubs to do after school. The school makes you feel like you are part of a huge family that has the same goal in mind, to teach our children. Also VCS was rated an A+ for a first year school they must be doing something right!

I have two children at Viera Charter School. We have been at the school since the beginning. The activities, whether they are academic, athletic, or social, that this school has been able to put together in such a short time are incredible. The school spirit is amazing! The students, teachers, administration, and families that are part of this school love this school and it shows! As a small business owner, I am unable to be as involved at the school as I would like. However, between Facebook posts from other parents and emails from the teachers I am able to keep up with everything concerning both of my children. We are proud to be part of the Panther Family!

I love our school! My son does too! Last year we did have some hurdles, however everything is running very smooth this year. I love the new teachers they hired. Some of them I know from other A rated schools in the area from previous years and are highly respected. VCS is the Best! I love that each class is created based on academic level. My son loves his classes this year. Dr. Cady has the best interest of our children when making decisions. I would recommend the school for anyone wanting a solid education from a "A" rated school. Which is a Huge Accomplishment in it's first year!

My family have had a wonderful expierence with the school. The first year had some bumps but the administration has since fixed most of the problems. The school has overwhelming parental involvement and support with many activities to choose from. The teachers I have met care deeply about the kids and are always there to help. I hope to continue attending the school for many years to come. A+.

We love the Viera Charter School! I am so happy to have my two girls there! The teachers are wonderful, and what they offer is so much more than what I expected as far as clubs and activities. Any school or business knows what its like to go through growing pains, so i feel that the small bumps we will experience, and they will be less and less often, are a small price to pay for the great education our children are getting.

I have a 5th grader in her second year at VCS and I have to say, this has been, by far, her BEST year so far - in her school career. Her teachers are excellent! They believe in hands-on education - instead of reading bullet points - and for my child, it has made all the difference. The school is only two years old and is still establishing itself with supplies, routines...etc but I am thrilled we made the choice to come to VCS.

Could not be happier with our choice to send out children to VCS!!! Amazing teachers who take the time to get to know the kids and their unique learning styles! We are absolutely thrilled with the extra school time (30 minute longer day) devoted to the STEM field. We love not having to deal with early release days. VCS is committed to making all of its students into life long learners. There are many wonderful avenues for families to be involved with the school as well, the volunteer group here is a tremendous asset to the school community. VCS is by far the best school my children have attended!

VCS is great! My child has been there since it opened (a little bit of a rough start at first- but to be expected when the doors first open- very smooth now) Also- have to brag about our music instructor - Mr. Law. He is phenomenal and his music program rocks !!!

We are new to VCS,As well as brevard county and the school is great. I have an 8th grader and a 5th grader who love the school and look forward to school. The school looks out for my kids best interest,not just a number!!!!

My decision to send my son to VCS was not made lightly or without extensive thoughtful research. After numerous talks with Dr. Jordan, his committed plan for our school's excellence was made abundantly clear. Similarly, every school that Charter School Associates has opened has more than succeeded. I was greatly impressed with the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) curriculum which challenges our children and averages approximately a year ahead of the Brevard County public school system. The VCS staff is knowledgeable and dedicated to the development of our children. I also like the fact that my son will have no other transitions throughout his elementary and middle school career and will cross the street to Viera High School with all of his friends from the previous 8-9 years. Despite the expected growing pains of an undertaking like this, VCS achieved the honor of being an "A" school in its inaugural year. My little boy is happy and getting smarter (and bigger) by the day and I'm very grateful to the VCS staff for their commitments to our children.

This is our children's second year at VCS. They love their teachers and come home happy every day. Teacher communication has been excellent through email and Edline. Our kids originally went to Suntree Elem. and then rezoned for Longleaf, and I can honestly say that the experience at VCS has been better than both of them. The amount of parent involvement is incredible and so helpful. There were some obstacles in the first year mainly with staff communication, but that is to be expected in a brand new school.

This is our second year at Viera Charter School and my husband and I are very happy with it. Our children have had fabulous teachers and have excelled. The first year had its bumps which was to be considered since it was a new school. The administration and parents have worked together to make vast improvements and it just keeps getting better. The communication is much better than we experienced in our previous school and the amount of after school activities is great. My husband and I both work and there are many opportunities for us to be involved with the school. I would recommend VCS to anyone!

We have two daughters coming to VCS and we're extremely happy with all aspects! We've been with the school since it opened and we knew there would be some issues the first year but everything is amazing now. Communication has improved and our girls are extremely busy with all the activities, clubs and sports that many other local school don't provide. Students are challenged academically and we love our teachers!!!

I have a kindergarten and I sixth grader at VCS. We came from what was said to be one of the "best schools in the county". We could not be happier at this school. The teachers are fantastic, they really seem to care about our kids! This school has been a huge blessing to our family and I am forever grateful for VCS!

Viera Charter School is an outstanding school! Yes, it is true that they do not have the same level of funding as a traditional public school but they offer more learning and afterschool activities than their counterparts. There is a reason why this choice school has a long waiting list! The school has had to be innovative with facilities due to not getting any local tax dollars. There is a fantastic new addition coming this year. There are also rumors and high hopes that a new YMCA will be built adjacent to the school which has potential to benefit students, families, and the community. It is nice to have this choice school as an option for our community. Thank you Viera Charter School! An amazing first year - congrats on getting recognized as an "A" school as well

The best positive about this school is the teachers. We were very happy with the quality of student's teachers last year. However, the many other negative issues of this school outweigh the quality teachers. First and foremost is the inexperienced administration that is mostly concerned with appearances and reputation. It is non-responsive and doesn't follow through on promises made. Many decisions are last-minute, poorly thought-through, and poorly communicated. Our student hated the "silent lunches" that were imposed if students were "talking too much" during lunch and the frequent suspension of recess for various reasons, like FCAT testing, when they most need the release. There is no gym or plans for one, so if it rains (as it often does in Florida), P.E. is also in the classroom. Concerning parent involvement, if you send your child here, get involved. These parents get the best treatment. Unfortunately, we both work full-time so we didn't get these benefits, and were treated more as "outsiders." Overall, an A-rated school has just as much, if not more, to offer! Our student is now back in a public, A-rated school.

This school is a disaster on every level! We were hopeful things would improve as the school's inaugural year came to a close but we ultimately withdrew our children from the school. The problems are much larger than an inefficient carline....the entire premise of this school, the individuals running it and the mis-truths are too much for a reasonable parent to endure. If I could rate this school with zero stars I definitely would do so. Happily returning to our A-rated public schools...

We had high hopes for VCS. Many families, as we have, have taken our children out of this school. We attended all the pre-opening meetings- we believed what we were sold & took our child out of the A rated school in the neighborhood to go to VCS.The reality of VCS is that it is lacking in curriculum, facilities and administration! Constant disruption with faculty changes (teachers leaving or being fired) There is no library, their state of the art Media Room- was not- it had shells of computers, the other county schools have better computers and offer more for students across the board. If it rains no PE.The cafeteria is very small & next year they are adding 8th grade! They claim to be a STEM school they were not even doing Stem programs until parents complained. Same for all Specials. Parents concerns have not been received positively. Beware all of the testing they do in addition to State testing. After FCAT when the pressure should be lifted they gave more tests from April thru May Suppose to show progress - not get crammed in the end of the school year. A lot of inconsistency with curriculum and more concern with playing catch up regardless how it impacts the students.

The school leaves a lot to be desired. Several parents like myself removed our children from the school. The school has a high focus on FCAT and appearances, but not true care for children. The administration is one of the worst we have experienced. The school feels like a business-like ran school that seems to have a main focus on gaining their reputation within the developing community than the children education. Academics are poor. Our children were getting straight As with no effort, while not learning anything. Having been part of opening a school in another state, we were familiar with the troubles of the first year, but the troubles of this school go well beyond the "new year" issues and we don't see that changing any time soon unless an administration change takes place. Some of the teachers were good, but unfortunately stuck with the curriculum and administration.
