Too many examples of mismanagement to list them all but let’s say that bullying is rampant at this school which is odd considering how densely populated the area is with fanatical Christians. Bullying is absolutely not dealt with by teachers the VP nor Principal.
The PE teacher wears Crocks a shoe that the school banned for the students. She sits in a chair during class with mini cones in a circle surrounding her and tells the students that they are not to cross into the circle of cones. If you forget your water bottle, sorry, you may not get water until after class no matter how extensive the exercise is per her class rules. There are teachers that should simply retire instead of dragging themselves into class for one more day who have horrible attitudes towards the kids and teaching in general - more than noticeable to the students. Off base comments about not getting paid enough spoken directly to the students is an example. Another oddity is that there is literally not one male teacher of any discipline. How? Why?
My overall assessment is go elsewhere. All the cute social media pictures don’t tell the real story. Choose wisely.

Serial bullying with zero discipline from teachers. Physical ed ONCE a week. Once?
Art class ONCE. STEM, once. Once.
A terrible lack of diversity, if that matters to you. The teachers are lazy and either refuse to teach any kind of modern tech - AI or just don’t know anything about it, thus can’t teach it. There are no real life lessons taught here, similar to any public school system. It’s so bad it’s almost laughable, but quite sad. This is a real review and others will tell you but not in public that they feel the same. It’s not an A rated school in reality.

Whether it be tutoring or differentiating instruction, my child has been taught on an individual basis.

This is a small school and bullying behavior is not a part of the culture.

My child was struggling in reading and the teacher offered to tutor after school for free once a week. Not every teacher will do this, but it shows dedication.

This truly depends on the teacher. We have never had a teacher at this school that assigns a ton of homework. It has always been a reasonable amount and focused on the child's needs.

This school is horrible. The principal (Masterson) is a bully. Parents are split between those they accept and those they treat horribly. Many parents have had to remove their children from this school and place in another or homeschool. Those that rate this school high are the ones that have been placed in the popular parents click. In the end the students suffer due to the unprofessional staff.

The teachers educate to the bare Florida State Standards, which are very low. If they didn't not want to grow these children's minds, they should not have become educators.

Homework at this school is a joke. It's clear the children are not learning to their abilities. This is mainly to be blamed by Florida's horrible state standards.

The staff are very dishonest and unfair. They do not lead by example. Students see how their parents are treated and learn by this example. Horrible school.

I'm very unhappy with they way my children were treated at this school and the way I was treated. There was way to much negative judgement between parents and teachers. I've noticed a lot of wide spread negativity around this area in the last 20 years... not only in the Public School System but also in the Medical Field. People need to lighten up and stop judging everyone so fast. Act more like Professionals people and be nice.

Surfside is the best school, not only beachside but all of the states we have lived in! I have three children and all the teachers we have had, take my children's education as a high priority. The school keeps high standards of behavior, parent involvement is extremely high (with Many ways, just sign the I'm interested slip at the beginning of the year or jump on the face book group and your email with fill up ;) ) , and so many opportunities to get kids involved. Extra events for the community of the school, music programs, after school dance, cheer, chess, bridge, garden club, running club, and math clubs.... the list goes on. I cant say enough about how thankful we are to be apart of this school.

This school has impressed me from the moment I walked on it's campus. It's an older facility yet the charm and charisma of the school are heartwarming. My children were resistent to move schools yet within a few weeks at Surfside were fitting in marvelously with the kids and instructors. Teaching philiosophies and technology are impressive, families are very inviting, and the community is exceptional. The entire team at Surfside has made our move to this school something we will never regret.
