I've been at this school since 3rd grade and I'm now in 8th grade I'm still going here and its been the worst years of my life, the staff here are rude and very irritable. My parents don't like the staff for the school and the rules they set in here are absolutely ridiculous, I've never been to a school worse than this one. I usually have a hard time learning in this school not because I am dumb or anything but the teachers don't really teach well and they cover the same topic over and over till u get it but it's still confusing no matter how you do it, most of the staff here pretend like they are on your side for whatever reason, and they only acknowledge you if you are a trouble maker and u don't act right in classes. I used to get in trouble a lot and have trouble in this school because I never learned anything no matter the teaching methods and I used to get in trouble a lot, I get targeted by all staff and teachers and they've went to measures such as walking me to lunch, timing me on how long I go to the bathroom, and giving me referrals instead of conduct points, I've been suspended for rules that nobody has acknowledged me of or brought to me but the moment I do something that upsets one of the teachers or staff I get in trouble. And the teachers don't face any repercussions whatsoever. Teachers and staff tend to bend words or just say outrageous things to your parents to make it seem like you did something worse than you actually did. I would also like to point out that before I came to this school I got all A's every year till about 4th grade, since I've been here my grades have dropped drastically. I've also been the most athletic at the school since 5th grade even breaking school records in track and I haven't been acknowledged, but when it comes to other kids in the school and there accomplishments they acknowledge them. The school has grown to resent or hate me over the years and its very annoying but I'm leaving in less than a month anyway, I don't suggest this school for anyone ever.

First off the staff tries to be friends with the students and when the students don't abide by the rules they get upset. They need to establish who is the adult and who is the student. The administrators are jokes. You email them and don't get a response. At first the kids did things they enjoyed but now they don't do these things anymore. They wonder why their fundraisers are not doing well anymore or why registration is low for returning students.

Innovation truly cares about my children. I have a daughter and my foster children at this school and we are so blessed. The teachers they all have are so kind, have met them in the good and the hard, and have worked so hard to guide them in the classroom. They have grown so much in the school environment and thats truly because of the staff at RCSA Innovation. This warmth my children receive also extends from the front office staff, councilors, resource teachers, and maintenance staff. Everyone always extends a hello, recognizes something theyve been working on, tells them how proud they are of them. I truly could not have asked for a better learning environment for my children.

I chose for my child to attend this school because of the STEM teaching model and the lower number of students vs. DCPS schools. I was also happy that the students had art/music/language/pe classes daily, not just once a week or two like it was in my daughter's elementary school. The first year my child attended on campus and the second year has been virtually due to the pandemic. I have been so impressed with the dedication of the teacher's and staff during this unusual year. They have truly excelled at the attention given to both in school and virtual students. I believe that most of the teacher's from all of the schools that my child has attended have been caring and teach out of love, but at RCSAI they have a little more leeway in the way they teach and that makes them seem even more happy to be teaching. So far, RCSAI has been a great choice for my kid!

My son has been at River City Science Academy Innovation for almost 2 years and I can't even being to explain how much we love the school and faculty! This past school year has been challenging for most, but the transition went pretty well. The teachers are understanding when situations arise, and do get back to you pretty quickly should you have questions. I'm honored to have my son taught by this wonderful group of folks, and we can't wait to see the new building in August!!

My daughter went to a small private school for kindergarten and first grade but wasn't very happy. We would pass one of the several RCSA campuses around Jacksonville and she would repeatedly tell me how she wanted to go there. We applied and she got in for the start of second grade. She will be going into the 4th grade this year and has absolutely loved every second of RCSAI. The teachers are professional and caring and with the pandemic situation, the school has gone above and beyond to secure the safety of the students. We are so very pleased with the communication and different avenues to connect.
Thank you!
Jean A.

My kid has a wonderful teacher! The feedback I get from other students (about other teachers) has me concerned about what to expect next year
Posted: March 11, 2018
I have no doubt about this within my kids classroom, but Im not 100% sure that all adults/teachers are leading by example, with kindness; but I want to believe that they are

Escalation path is unclear. Information provided isnt always consistent. But I truly believe the school means well and will continue to get better

I believe the school does their beat, unsure of effectiveness

My kids classroom teaches kindness on the regular! I know the school supports a positive policy
Posted: March 11, 2018
My experience with the school is always with the classroom teacher. Based on the classroom/teacher, Id give 1000%! The school has a whole has a lot of developing left to do, but I believe the school cares and wants to improve. In my opinion, the school needs more from its parents, bit cannot require it.

Kids are allowed to be kids at this school. All students receive multiple daily resources including STEM, Art, Music, and PE. Teachers are allowed to be creative in the classroom and address multiple learning styles. Curriculum is challenging but does not teach to the test, instead creates opportunity for students to understand and solve real-world problems. RCSAI offers a huge selection of age appropriate clubs for K-8th graders including competitive teams like First Lego League, Robotics, Basketball, and Track.

Practiced favoritism, racial bias, and unfair treatment among employees in the workplace.
Posted: June 2, 2017
1 - 2 stars for employee discrimination. Workplace was really not very diverse. There were a lot more Europeans and Caucasians. The rest were very few minorities, such as Blacks or Hispanics (can be counted in fingers). Asians are not very favored in this workplace environment unless they have higher social status, and perfectly fit the workplace culture. If not, they are likely to face some form of discrimination.

No communication and no concern for the child's success. I had a meeting in October and was told my son had to work on his times table. The next meeting was in April to tell me my son was being retained. No remediation done. i was told he was absent whenever it was time to remediate yet no email or form of communication during that time to inform me when the remediation would take place. i appealed the retention and once again no communication from this school.. i called the school because i did not receive orientation information. It was then they then told me he was retained. I called the school board and was told the school was supposed to contact me. Again No Communication.. my son was set up for failure and to be a statistic of a high school drop out. I give this school a terrible review. Not worth paying before and after school care as they did not care if homework was done which requires a computer. The drive is through the business district is dangerous and not worth it.

My daughter attended RCSA Innovation for the first time last year for grade K. I can't say enough great things about her teacher! She was unbelievably kind, patient, and loving to my little girl. I couldn't have asked for a better experience for a first time school mom. The clubs, diversity, and activities that they have were so great for my daughters development. I can't wait to see what the future holds for her at RCSA Innovation!

My son attended RCSA Innovation this year and will be entering 2nd grade for the 2016-2017 school year. Loved his first grade teacher. Great communicator, was concerned about his learning, gave me feedback and encouragement, kept me informed of his progress and had quarterly conferences. Loved her teaching style. My son flourished at the school and thoroughly loved it there.
Hopefully he will fare just as well next year. Also, i like the diversity of curriculum, which includes daily P.E., with additional concentration in Music and Art.
The school offers after school community clubs which allows additional learning opportunities and fellowship.

I feel that the homework given at the school compared to conventional public schools is more equitable and more on the level of the child's grade level and understanding.
