As a student, I am concerned about the lack of honesty from this administration. There is a huge gap between the '5.0 Safety' ratings seen online and what actually happens in the hallways. For example, there is a well-known incident involving a knife on campus that the school tried to dismiss with a ridiculous excuse about 'peeling an orange.'

Whether the excuse was true or not, the fact that a weapon was even present and then downplayed shows that safety isn't the priority here—image is. Between the way they handle safety threats and the school's history of failing to support students in crisis, it’s clear the leadership is disconnected. This school might look good on paper, but the actual environment is one of indifference and survival rather than support.

I honestly wish i could put zero stars with all the things I've heard and seen

We have both our daughters in this school in grades 3 and 7 and they both really like it. The school is safe and seems to have little drama which is a sign of a good culture. The teachers love what they do and that translates into a fun environment. They also offer quite a bit of sports and after school clubs!

This school is worst then a regular public school. Kids are very mean to each other, even elementary level. Boys talk down to girls, in a very disrespectful/ sexual manner.
From day one we were hearing that children get in physical fights with each other, and constantly get suspended.
Teachers do not care about educating children and know nothing about dealing with them. Can care less about hurting child’s feelings. All they are concerned about is writing your child up for being a child.
They will not allow children to wear anything warm, on cold days of 40 degrees - no sweat pants are allowed! The staff will scream at you and your child, in the car line, as soon as the child exists your car for wearing a wrong color sweater!
The school culture is not good, and feels like jail. My children hated attending HAMS.
Grades are average, don’t be filled - they let children retake their test, so that the scores will appear higher!
The principal is a SUPER RUDE AND UNPROFESSIONAL individual, who made a lot of good teachers leave the school in the past, and parents transfer children out of this school constantly to different schools. We transferred our kids last year to a different school, and the kids are much much happier now!

I would not recommend this school and their poor administration to anyone who wants a quality well-rounded education for their child. Over 40% of the staff leaves every year, some in the middle of the school year, leaving teachers overwhelmed with excessive class sizes and lack of academic services. There are almost no specials teachers, so they just send the kids outside to play instead of art class or computer class. They hire replacement teachers who either quit or are ill-equipped to handle the all the responsibilities the admin places on every teacher there (the entire 2nd grade team left in '21 and the 4th grade team too---and the whole new group of 4th grade teachers are leaving again in '22. The teacher who stay are good but that doesn't make a great learning environment or work place. The play areas are small and kids often play in the driveway spaces behind the school. The traffic that's created by drop off and pick up congests a main, busy road that is used by Alonso HS.
I would not send my children to the small Charter school ,as there are no gifted services, not enough ESE teachers or services, the teacher turnover is well above the norm. CSA is in it for the money each student has attached to them through the State and otherwise, nothing else really matters. How do you have 1 psychologist for 11+ school and expect all the testing and accommodations to be met by that many students. They make it sound great, but be careful how it looks and ask the right questions and you'll see its a lot of smoke and mirrors, like the Wizard of Oz.

Posted: May 18, 2019

My experience has been phenomenal. The teachers are very communicative and they always have new ways to get involved.

Posted: January 14, 2019

The school is what "you" make it. The tools are there. Communication is there with both teachers and administration. You are an equal partner in your child's education. I give it a 10 out of 10.

Posted: January 14, 2019

Posted: January 14, 2019

Bullying is not tolerated! Bottom line. It's scary being a little guy in a school with bigs kids. I was assured that wouldn't be a problem, and it hasn't been. My now 8 year old is fine with all the big kids. (They are separated for the most part anyway.)

Posted: September 13, 2018

Average amount of homework of average rigor.

Posted: September 13, 2018

Many come there for a "change" or demographic stability. Definitely not an environment for diversity.

Posted: September 13, 2018

The school culture allows kids to essentially do what they want in the sense that there is no expectation of self control.

Posted: September 13, 2018

High turnover. Lack of accountability or professionalism. Favoritism and duplicitous behavior.

Posted: September 13, 2018

Bare minimum ESE support. One man show and a floater going class to class for 30 min stints.

Posted: September 13, 2018

Nothing to note. No personal experience on the matter.

Posted: September 13, 2018

Terrible. Parents that are super loyal and in denial try to treat it as a private school and have "big fish/small pond syndrome".

Since last year this school is coming down hill, changes every time are for worst, the principal or programs coordinator won’t listen your concerns and if they do they’ll come at you with something making you feel like is not their problem. 4 substitutes in a year in same grade, my kid didn’t learn anything. And many more issues
This year already started And issues too... about to give up on them

Posted: August 16, 2018

We were at this school for 3 years. The first year I only had 1 child there. School was good. The teachers and admin were good. Car line sucked but there was nothing we could do about that. Year two, I enrolled my other two children. My oldest hated the constant rule changes (that were yelled at them during lunch and contradicted the student handbook). My middle child was bullied and my youngest did not get ESE support. Third year, we pulled the two youngest and put them in an amazing school. My oldest stayed because it was her last year at the school. 7 weeks into the year, we pulled her. We pulled her due to sexism that was displayed by the PE teachers. We pulled her because she was not being taught. The last straw was that she was seriously injured in class due to the negligent instruction of a teacher.

As was stated in another review, approximately half of the teachers left last summer. That says a lot right there.

Posted: December 11, 2017

Homework is difficult to do when the teachers don't teach the material before giving the assignments.

Posted: December 11, 2017

Many teachers are not certified to teach what they are teaching. Many teachers hand out packets at the beginning of class and expect them turned in at the end of class. What are the teachers doing during class time, sitting at their desks on their phones.

Posted: December 11, 2017

Posted: December 11, 2017

My child was injured at school and before I could get to the school to pick my child up, the principal tried to convince my child that she incorrectly recalled how she was injured (it was due to teacher neglect).

Posted: December 11, 2017

My middle child was bullied. He was knocked down and kicked by other students during recess. The teacher literally sat there and made my child come to her and had him go back to the kids who were hurting him and make them apologize to him. The teacher never got up. This continued throughout the school year. No one ever dealt with the bullies.

School went from okay to bad. Half the teachers in the school left over last summer. That says something. 5 of my daughter's teacher from last year left over summer to other schools. On their fourth principal now and only on their fifth year open. Not a good sign. She tells me that the asisstant principal screams at them in the hallways to be quiet and in the lunchroom. Even I don't yell at my own children so I don't expect my child's administrators to either. So unprofessional. They are very strict with rules and some teachers left are sub-par. My daughter told me her teacher fell asleep in class. My daughter is miserable. We will be leaving the school this year. Good bye!

Glad I was patient and kept her there until the school worked out all the issues. After this year, I decided to keep her there while she is moving up to Middle School!

Posted: February 12, 2017

My son was bullied. I also know of at least one other student that left the school because of bullying. My concerns were never addressed and my emails/calls were never returned.

Posted: February 12, 2017

The speech program was excellent. His teacher was very effective.

Posted: February 12, 2017

The administration is horrible. They need to fix the drop off and pick up lines.

Posted: February 12, 2017

Students get bullied here. My son was not the only one that got bullied.

Posted: February 12, 2017

My son was having issues with another student and it was not resolved. I emailed his teacher three times about this.

Posted: February 12, 2017

I think they give too much homework for first grade. They have daily homework plus a literacy journal each week. This interfered with extra curricular activities during the week.

Posted: February 12, 2017

My son was having issues with a student in his class for a while. I emailed his teacher 3X. I left a message for the vice principal, she never called me back. I was told to email someone - they never got back to me. I guess bullying is not a big deal to them and no one really addressed the issue. The drop off and pick up lines are each half an hour which is ridiculous. One day, I dropped off my son's lunch at the front desk at around 9AM and they did not give it to him until after lunch (2 hours later). My son did not eat that day and the assistant principal yelled out to me during that awful pick up line that I need to "feed my kid." The administration is terrible. We are back at Bay Crest now and loving it.

They told me that I have to wait when my child start the school to explain to me everything .. so it doesn't make sense if I'm trying to make a decision. So bad in personal and administrative impression. What basic organization and logic they teach to the child? Considering they are rated 6, I will not change my child with them.

Posted: September 19, 2016

My son was at this school for a little over 2 years, and while his teachers were always amazing, the administrative staff left a lot to be desired. The new Principal Cristina Fuentes speaks at parents instead of to them. The drop off and pick ups are a joke...They should never take 1 hour, and do not get me started on the aftercare "teacher Julia". She is extremely disorganized and always trying to gauge you for money.

Elementary gets to have recess everyday. The field trips engage the kids with hands on learning. Not only will your kids get excited about school here but so will you!

Posted: March 27, 2015

We love this school. Excellent teachers and staff. My daughter is very happy there and will continue next year. I feel very comfortable with our decision to continue her education in this school. She started last year as a 4th grader right when the school opened. First year had some difficulties to overcome but we were expecting that as being brand new school Most importantly, she will be there throughout the middle school which makes me much more comfortable then large middle school where she would be just a number with higher chances of bullying.

Posted: March 27, 2015

After attending another school in the area and not getting the help my daughter needed I decided to transfer her to HAMS. Within the second 9 weeks she was able to get honor roll.

Posted: March 27, 2015

This is a great school! They have managed to accomplish some amazing things considering the fact that the school has only been in existence for two years. They have wonderful teachers, administrators, kids, and parents. I am glad to have been a part of this school since the beginning.

Posted: March 27, 2015

We have never been happier with a public school! We have both a Middle Schooler and a Grade Schooler and have been at HAMS from the beginning. The Administration, teachers and parents are all outstanding and my kids are very well adjusted. We prefer HAMS because of the small nature of the school with a private school feel. No child goes unnoticed. The school does a great job of meeting the students where they are academically whether they need extra help or are gifted and need an enhanced curriculum. The school continues to evaluate areas that need improvement and works to achieve an even better school. The three science labs at the elementary and Middle School Labs are wonderful for hands on learning. Our Spring fundraiser will supply the students with access to tablets for use in the classrooms, and there are many science, technology and math related clubs in the works for next year to make the school even better!!

We have attended HAMS for 2 years and have had a great experience. The school is new but has continued to improve. The administration and teachers this year are phenomenal. My son went from asking to be home schooled after 1st grade to loving school because he's no longer bored. Lots of hands on learning.
