I had a very disappointing experience with this school. Some teachers are extremely impatient with young children. One teacher even told a kindergartner they would “put tape on their mouth” if they weren’t quiet—completely unacceptable behavior. Another teacher told me my daughter “got up every 30 seconds” and “couldn’t follow instructions,” mind you, this was during her very first week of adjusting to sitting in class from 7:45 AM to 3:00 PM.

We decided to transfer her to an A-rated school, and she is now thriving—sitting, following directions, and doing wonderfully. This proves the issue wasn’t with my daughter, but with the lack of patience and proper teaching strategies at this school.

The elementary portion of the school is rated a C, which matches our experience. I would not recommend this school for families who expect patience, professionalism, and a nurturing learning environment.

Being new to Florida, this school was recommended by someone at my job and had I known what I know now, I would not have enrolled my child here! My child was starting 6th grade and it has been an unpleasant experience since. There is a huge lack of communication with the school and the parents, it is difficult to get any responses from teachers/staff let alone meet with any of them, it takes weeks and even months if that to receive an email or call back. I'm always told by whoever I was trying to reach that they get so many emails a week - but that's the job. I have felt in the dark, not knowing how to help my child when her grades were bad. I've noticed that my child's grades are still not improving even with her working to pull her grades up. So, I started asking my child more involved questions about the school work, the teachers, and what they are learning. My child comes home with horror stories about her 6th grade group (physical fighting in the classrooms); tells me some inappropriate, discouraging, and negative comments and dialogue that teachers have with the class; how teachers are not really helping the students as far as explaining work/lessons. My child wants to see how 7th grade is since making a few friends, however, as a parent this has been a set up to fail and no guarantee that the next grade would be better. I'm not able to speak for the other grades but by my child just doing 6th grade and even listening to other parents with same concerns, I would not recommend 6th grade at this school to anyone.

I made the mistake of putting my son in this school during the pandemic. The teachers were nice but only 1 teacher only ever kept in contact with me when it came to his grades. They failed him for classes that I personally saw him work hard for and never reached out to me at all before failing him. I was never told that he even made it to 4th grade. This school was a mess and the worst mistake I ever made in putting my son here. I will be pulling him out of this school for 4th grade and homeschooling. I would not recommend this school to anyone.

I really like this school. My son is in second grade and has been going ever since Kindergarten. He loves it and that's what's important to me. It's very close to home and the school is as much organized as it can be. He will be here for a good while.

I also like that the school uses many programs to help the students to excel such as i-Ready and Lexia.

Renaissance Charter School at Pines is a great school. I have 2 children there, one in Elementary and the other one in Middle school. Our teachers are awesome and very easy to get in contact with. The front office staff is very friendly and helpful. The communication is excellent as we receive daily calls from the principal to announce any important matter and it's also followed by an email as well. The school premises are clean and safe. The drop off and pick up procedures are on point. I absolutely recommend this school to any parent looking for a great school.

The lack of communication in this school is astounding. I try to contact the teachers and get no reply. This year alone my child's teachers have been changed at least 3 times and I only know because my child told me. They have to do 3-4 different computer programs for homework nightly plus regular homework. I'm very disappointed this year.

Posted: January 24, 2017

Homework included programs such as Lexias and Mathletics to reinforce what they learn in school that week. Yes there is homework everyday. He just has to manage his time effectively and get it done.

My son had a case of bullying, I only had to report it once and they situation was taken care of. No problems so far.

Posted: January 24, 2017

My son has always excel as a student and I see how the school does what it can to embrace his fortes and make them better.

Posted: January 24, 2017

In my opinion, leadership in this school is great.

Posted: January 24, 2017

Kids are rewarded when they show these kinds of traits which motivates them to put them in practice.

Posted: January 24, 2017

I had experience with 3 teachers so far and they we're all knowledgeable and highly qualify.

Posted: January 24, 2017

My son has attended this school since kindergarten. He is now in 2nd grade and has learned so much. When the school first open it had a lot of problems with drop of and pick up procedures, but we have to realize there is no public transportation therefore, everyone one must drop of their kids causing more traffic. Communication wise, teachers always had great communication with the parents via email at least the ones I dealt with. Communication is so great they even use a software called “Class Dojo” where you can speak to the teacher instantly and track your kid’s daily behavior. They also use a website called “Powerschool” where you can track your kid’s grades and daily assignment. Therefore, you have the tools to get involved in your child’s progress. This school has made lots of progress since opening in 2014, keeping in mind is still a new school and test scores have to get better.

They don't even know what they are doing.. day by day I regret even more having my children come to the school

Posted: July 25, 2016

None of the ones I had contact with seemed to have proper education. My son's second grade teacher would mispronounce common words and use them incorrectly in a sentence. And the worst part was this wasn't a case of English being her second language.

Posted: July 25, 2016

My child would have to stay up until 9:30pm some nights in order to finish. His bed time was 8:30pm and the next morning he would be a zombie.

Posted: July 25, 2016

They only thing they develop is a headache and the urge to register your child elsewhere.

Posted: July 25, 2016

I'm not an irrational person. I know that every school will have it's pros and cons but let me just say I can't think of any pros for this school. The communication to the parents is HORRIBLE. I had to rely on my son to bring me home information based on what he remembered to be true. Majority of the staff are rude or misinformed. Teachers seem to come and go. The teacher I met at open house was not the same one he had a week later and no note or anything was sent home telling me about the change. When I wrote letters to her for weeks I was addressing the new teacher by the old teacher's name and it wasn't until my son heard me say her name when he told me he had gotten a new teacher weeks prior.
I get it's a newer school but there are other Renaissance Charter schools around who I've been told are good, try calling them for advice on how things are done. Drop off and pickup are a NIGHTMARE too but I supposed most schools can be. I'll end my review by simply saying GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!

I am a former middle school parent and I was fortunate to have been able to transfer my child to another school. The problems at this school go way deeper than pick up and drop off procedures . I was expecting the school to have a few kinks at the beginning which would be expected . However, I feel that particularly at the middle school level there are some serious issues. There has been a high turnover of teachers ( I believe they lost three just in the first semester) . I questioned the background of some of the staff and had serious concerns about the curriculum. My child was coming home with dittos and minimal homework .I do not feel the school meets the academic expectations which would prepare children for high school work. In addition, there are serious behavior problems at the middle school level and the same children engaging in unacceptable behavior, are allowed to continue to attend the school . This completely contradicts the school's zero tolerance discipline policy . I am not sure if the administration allows this behavior because they want to keep the enrollment up but I have a feeling it's connected. Bottom line: do your research before enrolling at this school.

We came from NJ and was so grateful and excited to attend this school. But this has to the be the WORST experience of my 11 years of being a parent i've ever had to deal with...1st of all the Drop off and pick up has to be the worst, I was thinking of putting my daughter as a walker just so she can meet me outside faster because it's ridiculous..you will be there over an hour with pick up and drop off not to mention if your child is late you have to park in the mall parking lot which is far from the school because they close the fence after the late bell so your left to walk a nice distance to escort your child in, hope it's not raining (slim chance in florida), then good luck trying to get a hold of ANY administration by any means because they work off email so if your upset about something or it's urgent you can't even call and speak to someone about your issue, u have to type up an email only to not have a response! I had my daughter absent and that was the only way I received a call from the assistant principal and it wasn't to respond to my email it was to discuss her absences...had she responded to my email she would know my issue!!! Lastly the way they refer to children with

Staff and everything about the school sucks i don't recommend this school to no child or parent

Posted: October 13, 2014

I feel like everyone that leaves a review does so to be negative. I have experience with the school and administration. I have had nothing but positive experiences with them. I know from experience with my own child that things will better as the kinks are worked out. All new schools have wrinkles that need to be ironed out. Staff and administration has been nothing but professional and caring. I believe that good things come to those that wait. And families willing to wait through this difficult time will benefit.

Since the Renaissance Pines Charter school is fairly new, I will keep that in mind and will rate it accordingly. First, the drop off and pick up of the children is horrible; It takes 20-30 minutes in the morning, and approximately 40 minutes in the afternoon (from the moment I arrive to the time I leave the parking lot). In the afternoon, if I try to avoid the lengthy wait in the car, and walk up to the door, I'm made to stand and wait outside for the same period of time I would have waited in the car. Second, neither the Principal nor the Assistant Principal respond to emails or return telephone calls. Third, one of the fourth grade teachers does not communicate with the parents via email as was promised. This includes her not notifying parents of the open house. Fourth, they have a silly rule of making the children wear a button front shirt and tie on Mondays. Other Renaissance schools allow the children to wear any uniform to include gym shirt and shorts as long as it has the emblem. Several teachers and students have already left the school. My children will not attend this school next year if the above issues are not addressed and/or corrected.

Posted: August 26, 2014

This school by far is the worse I have ever experienced. My son is in fourth grade and is doing first grade homework. He is writing numbers in standard form and expanded form. I am really frustrated with this school. I have sent multiple emails and phone calls to no avail. My son comes from an advanced magnet school to now have to regress because the school does not offer a challenging curriculum. I am in the process of looking for other schools in the cooper city area. Will definitely not put my son in this school next year. Good luck trying to get me to volunteer for this school.

Posted: August 25, 2014

I believe that the situation in this school is because it is new, however, something makes me think that something is wrong, my daughter attends first grade and yesterday came with a pre-kindergarten level homework. How to recognize shapes. Really? I'm seriously thinking take my kids out of this school.

Posted: August 22, 2014

I feel for anyone putting their child into this school. We had this Principal for two years. Your experience for this school is only going to get worse. I pulled my child from the RCSCC along with so many other parents. If you think what you're going through now is horrible . . . just wait, it gets a lot worse. Why do we have to give a star for this school. Charter Schools USA is not deserving. Look else where for your child. They traumatized my child. Forget life lessons. We need to protect our children. Also, they don't want parent involvement; they only want your donations. Couldn't believe they were opening up another school. Unfortunately, the public schools that are failing are going to lose a lot of students to these fast food public schools. Start looking elsewhere; this place will eat up alive. Also, they don't have a curriculum; they print things off the internet. If you're lucky, you might get that one good teacher they hired. If not, be afraid, be very afraid.

Posted: August 19, 2014

The worst system for drop off and pick up ever!!! I waited 2:15 hours the first day to pick up my children. Second day 1:25 hours and today 52 minutes. The first 3 days of drop off were terrible!!! More than 45 minutes waiting and the parents can't walk their children to the door!!! It's ridiculous!! This is a nightmare!!!
