I’m not sure if I can post names but I can’t say enough great things about my son’s school! From day one, the teachers have been amazing—so caring, patient, and truly dedicated to the students’ success. Every time I’ve reached out by phone or email, the front desk Ms Winter. staff and all the administrators have been incredibly friendly, helpful, and professional. Communication is always quick and efficient, and they make you feel heard and supported every step of the way. It’s such a relief as a parent to know my child is in such great hands. We couldn’t be happier with the overall experience!

I'm ready to the school year finish to put my kids out of the school, I choose this school because I thought was a good school but I make a big mistake.
My daughter doesn't have teacher for the last 5 weeks, they only care to put someone in the class to look the kids I don't know how many different person they see the last 5 weeks but don't teach anything, now her class move to another rooms with others teacher, we ask for the material that they don't receive the last 5 weeks because this kids are behind and the response of the teacher is like a she doesn't care, we can buy books to teach that part in home and when the teacher come back she will see, I don't know if the teacher is going to coming back but anyone want to be responsible of that.
yeah I can teach math and reading but I don't know what they lost in science or social.
It's a good school if you dont care about your kids learning but if not look for a different school.

My daughter attended the first quarter of the 2023-2024 school year. The first week, while we waited for her ordered school jacket to arrive she was not allowed to wear any jacket in cold rooms. In the 3rd week, said jacket "disappeared " at school, a known "troublemaker" bullied our daughter (threatened to "not protect" her if he wouldn't do the bully's homework, a chunk of our daughter's hair was cut in class, & NO teacher investigated. After we notified the Dean, he questioned our daughter the next day our daughter was covered in nut juice & had a mild allergic reaction. The bully denied everything. We took our daughter out of that school immediately. They have a bullying problem but are covering it up. Also, it is run as a military school. If 1 kid causes trouble, the whole class loses the ability to talk at lunch. In the 3 weeks my daughter went there she had maybe 5 days of silent lunch, instead of each day. When a different 6th grade class acted up at lunch, all 4 classes got silent lunch. Supporting bullies all the way. One last note...I've never been to a school open house where hardly anyone showed up. We thought at first we had the date wrong. We & 1 other went to our daughter's class. The principal was not there (at least we didn't see him, & there was no welcome speech). Also, only the home room teachers were present . They teach Language arts, social studies, math, & science. The other teachers were not there, their rooms were locked (art, music, PE, & Spanish). Altogether, there are too many red flags to recommend this school to anyone. Also I had a son go to this school 3 years ago and he said that the school lunch was rotting and had a lot of maggots coming out of his burger. I also had another son go to this school and he said that a bully started vaping in the bathroom and when the Dean came into bathroom my son got in trouble, he went to jail. also my son went to this school and had a bad time first he is hispanic (beaner). he gets bullied all the time for saying a certain word to certain people. he plays games during class all the time he has long black hair is in 7th grade looks like a girl and is weird.

My son attended the first 3 weeks of fall 2023.
The first week, while we waited for his ordered school jacket to arrive he was not allowed to wear any jacket in cold rooms. (He's small for his age, & was shivering ) In the 3rd week, said jacket "disappeared " at school, a known "troublemaker" bullied our son (threatened to "not protect" him if he wouldn't do the bully's homework, a chunk of our son's hair was cut in class, & NO teacher investigated. After we notified the Dean, he questioned our son the next day til our son was covered in snott & had completely shut down. The bully denied everything. We took our son out of that school immediately.
They have a bullying problem but are covering it up.
Also, it is run as a military school. If 1 kid causes trouble, the whole class loses recess. In the 3 weeks my son went there he had maybe 5 days of recess after lunch, instead of each day.
When a different 4th grade class acted up at lunch, all 4 classes lost recess. Supporting bullies all the way.

When my daughter fist started at this school it had just gotten a new principal. At first I was skeptical because the school had previously been rated a low C. Their new principal was Ms. T. Taylor. This woman was an amazing principal who brought structure with her military background. She had turned this school into an A+ rating school. I guess that someone hated the idea that not only educated African American woman but she didn't tolerate bullies. After multiple warnings and parent conferences you had to go. This community is filled with military families and we like structure. And so imagine my family's surprise for 2021-2022 school year. Within one year a new white male principal. The school has no structure, the overall grade for the school has dropped and the bullies stayed. Kids cannot focus and learn in an environment where this is allowed. We want Ms. T. Taylor back. If changes aren't made for 2022-2023 school year, my family will likely return to K12 public school online learning.
Thank you for listening.

School is greatly understaffed. My children did not feel safe going there. We had a bullying issue that wasn't handled because the other student "is typically a good kid". As a result of them not stepping up my child had to start virtual school to finish First grade. The staff in the office openly yell and curse in front of the students. It was made clear that if you aren't from the area, you are less. Very dissatisfied, my son went from doing 2nd grade work in kindergarten to now being behind because I guess I expected more out of their AVID program...

We made the Switch to Clay Charter after having a Horrible year with my Daughters “Zoned school” teacher. She was dreading going to school, cried and was all around just depressed. So when we moved her to Clay Charter we were hoping the change would perk her up to her normally Bubbly self and
it did. She absolutely loves it there. She loves the teachers, her new classmates, how comfortable the uniforms are, the fake grass, the cafeteria food (apparently way better) and even the fact she gets to take Spanish! She comes home everyday and tells me about everything she gets to do in school. It really has been a complete change. The Teachers have been amazing, the parent pick up line is way more organized and it has honestly been nice not having to worry about picking out clothes everyday!!

I seen some reviews about students not being allowed to wear sweaters in the class, I know This to be false because my Daughter wears hers everyday almost all day. The school is very clean and from what my daughter says as I mentioned the food is way better. All the teachers/staff/security guards I have encountered have been nothing but polite, informative and just all around nice to me and my daughter.

Over all, I absolutely hate this school. Bullies are constantly nagging on all the quiet or 'gifted' kids. Multiple of my current classes have teachers coming in then just quitting. And most of these teachers that come in are very entitled, and don't really care for us, they just force things onto us. We keep learning things, but can't keep them in our head because the teachers keep leaving us in the dust and don't bother to give us things to remember.

I request you don't send your kids to this hell-hole, it will only leave them scarred.

Clay Charter Academy has made an immeasurable difference in mine and my students' lives. When my youngest son started 2nd grade, he was still struggling with reading. His teacher worked with him one on one and helped him during free after-school tutoring. In a matter of months, he went from a struggling reader to reading on a 3rd-grade level. All the teachers at Clay Charter love their jobs and put the students first. They go above and beyond in every way possible. My oldest son was a B or C student at his previous school. Because of the personal attention of his teachers, he is now an A student, a member of the National Elementary Honor Society, and also getting tested for the Gifted Program.

Whenever I have a concern, the administration has been so easy to talk to, and always hear me and take action to correct anything that is needed. I have been so happy with Clay Charter Academy that I now have all three of my children here. Thank you for everything, Clay Charter! Go Eagles!

I am very excited about the new school year at Clay Charter Academy! There is new administration at the school now that has made a big difference with organization, communication and involvement. We parents get text messages, emails and phone calls weekly to keep us updated on how we can help our students at home. I am very happy that I chose to keep my students at the school for the 2017-2018 school year!

There was no effective communication between parent and teacher. I would email my daughters teacher, and wouldn't get a reply back. My daughter was told by her 2nd grade teacher, "If she had to use the bathroom in class, then on the next recess break she would have to owe her a lap". Who tells an 8 year old that! My daughter stopped drinking water throughout the day, so that way she never had to use the restroom in class. I took it to the VP and she handled it very well, I must say. My daughter will not attend next school year there as I have not had a pleasant experience, and my daughter refuses to go back. I have heard multiple times from different parents, the bullying is horrible and those kids basically get a slap on the hand and told not to do it again. This school has a long way to go and NO I do not recommend having your child attend here, save yourself the headache!

None of the guidelines are enforced, the published corrective actions are not even attempted to be followed. We have heard of numerous serious incidents at this school, with nothing done to the students responsible at all

No experience with the programs at the school to comment on this

Posted: May 10, 2017

School standards and guidelines are not enforced, it feel like some of the kids have the run of the place...

Posted: May 10, 2017

Nothing is done to instill any values to the students really, behavioral problems run rampant and are never addressed at all, outside of an apology....

Posted: May 10, 2017

Most of the teachers there really were very good, there are some truly awful teachers there too, which isn't addressed at all.

very repetitive homework on printed sheets. no real challenge or change in the format, my daughter got bored of that quick...

Our daughter has been attending this school for the past year. The first teacher (we had her switch classes after about a month) really struggled to control the class, and when asked about certain things our daughter had told us about the way the class was ran, she turned right around and told us that "her personality was too strong for our daughter to handle". I will admit our daughter is a little more sensitive than some, but not anywhere near the extreme suggested by the teacher.

Her new teacher was really great, but there were still administration issues and behavioral problems with some of the kids that attend there, none of which were address or even acknowledged when they were brought up. Behavior of some of the student is still an issue, most of which violates their "code of conduct" but no action is ever taken, and their own process and guidelines are not even attempted to be enforced.

We have pulled our daughter from the school, and so have several of the parents we have talked to. If this carries on, we really don't see this school lasting long. Hopefully when this happens, some of the teachers will be picked up by the surrounding public schools, as there are some genuinely caring and extremely capable teachers wasting away there....

I had such high hopes for this school, but have be very disappointed in the school. The school is full of children with behavior problems . There is no respect for teachers or respect toward students. Teachers are yelling all the time there is no control of the classroom. The school addresses bullying with a Im sorry your child had this experience instead of addressing the problem. Only test are graded everything else is just practice this is a horrible atmosphere for a child that is a poor test taker. Sixth and seventh graders have computer based school three days a week . They sit on computers for hours at a time just answering questions and answers all day . The computers have no security on them and students have access to the entire internet including inappropriate content that some student have been on. I have been very disappointed with the charter school . I know they are a new school but they have a very long way to go to get approval from the community.

Unfortunately i have to agree with some of the reviews, my girls aren't excited to attend school anymore. Most of the teachers are good but there is no motivation. The lunch is horrible therefore I pack lunch for the girls everyday. STEM club is a joke so I pulled my kids out of it. Clay Charter is however still a better alternative than Wilkinson Junior High

I feel like teachers don't get the kids excited about learning at all

This year has definitely is different for my son in the school. It is not as organized. IEP is not being followed propely. The IEP teacher is in a class 20 minutes for more than 15 students. No individual time. No history for 5th grade. Its been a change that is disappointing.

Leadership lacks at this school and the high staff turnover is a direct reflection of that.

Posted: November 16, 2016

Bullying is very frequent here at this school.

This is one of the decent parts because they expect daily reading, writing, and arithmetic, along with computer time. But never a lot of work.

There is an EXTREMELY high staff/student turnover rate, the food is horrible and not prepared on site, communication from staff is almost obselete, no transportation system, EXTREMELY high before & after care, lots of BULLYING amongst students, they penalize working parents for volunteer hours, and the list keeps growing. Definitely one place to AVOID. All of us parents are thinking to pull our children out of this school.
