There is a lot of work that needs to be done on the behind the scenes structuring and pricing however.

They charge you for anything and everything. They also sell child birthday announcements over the intercom. I bought this and when my child's birthday came they were disappointed because it never happened. I've also paid for clubs and many other things that they kept having my child missing from the itinerary with no prorates or reimbursement either for any of it.

Emails & communication is dysfunctional and consistently full of inconsistent dates/timing, formatting and errors.

It's also hard to get a volunteer badge so you can volunteer or get into the building. They make you take a two hour course, then get your photo taken at the school for an ID. I took the course and went in four separate times at different times for the photo. Each time they said it wasn't a good time for one reason or another. On the fifth time I went in they said enough time had passed that I had to retake the course and now it's an annual retake; so I gave up trying.

It's a small school with a very large student population. I think the school could be the right fit for those who are zoned for absolutely dismal public schools, but for those who have other options, I'd steer clear. I'll start with the good.

* Structured Curriculum. We were happy with how the math and ELA curriculum was organized.
* Heavy emphasis on improving test scores. If your child fails at their public school, this school might be a good option. It is run like a FAST test BootCamp. Math and ELA take a large part of your kid's school day. You won't see much hands-on or project-based learning, but your child will probably get significant support in all areas they will be tested on for their state test and move on to the next grade.
*Teachers. Most of our kids' teachers were wonderful and had an open line of communication.

The Bad

* Overcrowded. Classes are around 24-26 in elementary. While this may be similar to public schools in the area, the space doesn't support this, and it feels dangerously overcrowded.
* No cubbies. Your kid will always place their bag on the floor to be stepped on.
* Heavy emphasis on technology. Students spend about an hour daily on the tablet for ELA and Math using various apps. It's more when there is a sub. Too much screen time.
* High teacher turnover.
* Resource Teachers - Music watch musicals. They have never had a school performance since we started. Touch the instruments during the first week; after that, it's just videos. Art class kids will draw along with YouTube videos. PE is unstructured playtime. Kids can join if they want; if not, they can just run around the field and do what they want. Technology: They will spend a few days learning PPT and internet safety and spend the rest of their time playing games.
* Lack of after-school activities beyond tutoring.
* Middle School students often interact with younger students and behave poorly. Fights break out, they use the bathroom in the elementary wing, and they often curse in front of the younger kids. Middle and elementary school students share the field with little supervision over middle school students, which leads to scary scenarios.
* If it is not tested, your kids won't study it. My kids hardly did any writing in elementary school, and I had to teach them. The same goes for science. Very seldom do they do experiments or hands-on learning.
* No gym or library

I'd give this school a hard pass unless your child is failing and your zoned school is.

My son did homeschool for a long time. He was ready to go back to regular school. He thrived here and got all straight A's. He recieved lots of encouragement. Very strict though but my son needs that structure. Also it was very diverse,which is appreciated. Only thing I wish but all schools are becoming this way is screen time school is now on the computer all day. Honestly books are better.

This school welcomed my children in an exceptional way, especially my daughter who developed an anxiety attack, we received all the support and love, it is a wonderful and organized school, nothing to complain about, just praise!

My children have attended Duval Charter School at Flagler for the last 5 years. Overall, the school is good. Most of the teachers encourage and foster a rich learning environment. I have not had a problem communicating with the teachers.

As a parent of this school I would only say great things about it. My boy is a 1st grader and both his kinder teacher and his 1st grade teacher Mrs. Osborne were/are great with him. if he is behind or if he needs help they were quick to contact me and let me know so we can work with him on his issues. The school staff are always friendly and try their best to help if an issue arises. The school protocols are enforced to make sure students and staff are save in any case of an emergency! I would definitely recommend this school to parents!

my Child was in a traditional public school and was lost in the crowd. Since being at Flagler for 2 years, he has blessed into a much more confident student.

Brought testing in for my child to have a 504 program. It was addressed and implemented within a week.

So far so good. Year 3 and 2 kids attending. I actively participate in their academics as well as their sports programs. I think all teachers/staff pay more attention to people who actually are there to support their kids And not to ignore problems when presented with them. Teaching high school kids is, by no means, and easy job. I think communication both at home and at school can put any kid in any environment on a successful path

If you are an active parent you would know to check the online portal for any and all in and out of class assignments/ due dates/ missed work. No excuses not to know.

Compared to the nearest school Bartram Springs, we have had a definite better experience than the latter.

Not very good. The teachers at best are uninvolved and have little if any parent interaction. Emails often go unanswered. If your looking for a school that works with parents and communicates well, this is not the school for you. Pick up and drop off is an hour long process everyday. Forget your ID? Good luck trying to pick your kid up. Academics may be good if you look at the state test scores but my daughter has always scored high. I doubt the staff at Flagler has anything to do with her grades.

It is often given all at once on Monday. There is little if any review until tests on Friday. You would think they would break it up during the week and address topics as they come up.

Lack of communication is a primary concern. Teachers typically do not respond anytime outside of school hours. The interaction I have had with teachers while either in the office or waiting in the car lane was abrasive at best.

My child is not learning disabled, I don’t know of any children with learning differences at this school.

We had an issue with bullying, called several times without a response. Just to get someone on the phone was difficult.

The children are given different goals according to their strengths and weaknesses. I have two kids in the same grade and their goals have always been personal instead of a classroom goal with reading and math. I hear more “I reached my goal” instead of “I got a better grade than so and so”. It is definitely nice to see the encouragement being effortless when it is done this way!

So far it exceeds what is required and the teachers are genuinely engaged with the children. They are a HUGE part of molding our kids into responsible, respectful, respectable, kind, and compassionate human beings. The teachers deserve far more credit than they are given.

It is given at the beginning of the week and students are expected to turn it in by the following week completed! It’s been consistent for 3 years in my experience.

im a 7th grader going into 8th this year and this school is actually nice its not what I had in mind because of the uniforms and the rules in general but its nice.

This is one of a great school with excellent teachers. Very clean, safe and polite staff. We are so blessed to have this school in our neighborhood especially as an alternate for our middle school.

Duval Charter at Flagler Center is a very good school with dedicated teachers and principal. The principal enforces a strong dress code and discipline policy at all times. The drop off and pickup areas are well organized and efficient. The teachers provide open and honest evaluation of the students and are always available early in the morning for any meetings or assistance. Due to the proximity of two very large local employers, Citi and Baptist Medical Center South, many parents work nearby and volunteer at the school

Horrible school. No communication skills at all. They release your kids to anyone! It is frustrating to deal with the office staff some are rude and some just have no clue about what's going on. They milk money out of you for everything but can't give details about the events.
