My daughter is in the 6th grade and taking 7th grade Mather, ELA, and Science. The teacher engagement with the student and parent is really good. The staff is always encouraging the parents to be involved and assist with suggestions. I have been involved with the "Parent Leadership In Me" program. They messaged a bunch of families about taking part of this program since it is a similar program the students are going through - the Leadership In Me for the students was definitely a bonus for me when selecting this school. Any problems that I had is immediately taken care of by a staff or faculty personnel. The teachers are VERY responsive via TalkingPoints and have responded after school hours. The school is doing everything to get more involved in the community and want the parents to get involved with the experience for their children the best that they can. I cannot stop raving about the school and its initiatives. Parents that are not involved do not know what they are missing out on and because they refuse to be involved in the school, they do not voice their opinion to the school staff. The staff have been very responsive and helpful - they make the interaction pleasurable.

My daughter was new to Renaissance Charter School at Goldenrod this year. She came from a district school that did an excellent job preparing her for advance course work, but the middle schools in the area could not accommodate that. At Goldenrod, she is in the 6th grade taking accelerated 7th grade math, advanced English and Science. The school believes in the idea of allowing the kids to tailor their education based on what they are ready for as opposed to simply sticking to their grade level programming. My daughter is thriving. She is loves her E-Sport elective. She is challenged, which keeps her engaged in school. At first I thought, she would hate the uniforms, but she loves that too.
This school has a great culture that is focused on academics and the overall development of my daughter. I do not teach at the school, but I have been in education for over 20 years, so I do look at schools differently, and I think that this school is trending in the right direction. It is rigorous but worthwhile. Last year, the school was 1 point from being a "A" school. I trust them with my kid, and I do not doubt they will be an A school soon.

If your looking for a reveiw for this school THIS IS THE ONE FOR YOU. Okay listen up.

For students : As a student, the experience was a complete 0/10. The teachers are messy, and disrespectful. Ive seen firsthand of teachers yelling and cursing out kids for even just asking questions. The dean is also very disrespectful, he gives kids mean looks in the hallway and genuinely does not make anybody feel safe in this school. This school is prone to bullying. Theres a-lot of sightings about cockroaches, bugs . The walls are almost always broken, kids love to push and horse play. Ive gotten yelled at for dropping a pencil in class before, and ive only been here for one school year and i absolutely already have had so many bad experiences. Ive gotten a detention for having my phone on the desk, because i was looking for something in my bookbag, and received an after school detention. The front office is very unorganized . Ive seen multiple kids get bullied for race, not having the casual style, or even for being slightly different. There is a kid who is constantly getting bullied, pushed around, and litterally physically hit. The teachers have seen it, the staff have seen it. Buut they continue to claim they have not. They dont take accountability in any type of way. The teachers decide to stop teaching and its never reasonable , its because of all of their laziness. The student therapist, is the worst. She makes a nice and safe enviromentm then everything, word for word they can and they WILL tell your parents. If you have family issues, if something happened , domestic abuse, they will tell them. Because they hate to act on their own. As somebody who enjoys going to school, this specific school is genuinely so me tally and physically draining. When there is visitors in out school, the whole school decides to be this positive, great caring place, but everyone is dumb.

For parents: They dont teach. Ill say it again. They. Do.not.teach. They just tell you what to do and give you the source on where to get things from, but theyre not standing up there physically teaching the kids. They go on their phones, and dont answer questions the kids ask. They curse, they yell, they go non verbal, they leave the class . They want to get paid, not teach your child. They do not care.

The communication at the school is near to nonexistent. They do not accommodate students with IEP’s and the school register is absolutely rude as can be. After dealing with the school, and then enrolling my son, without even talking to me, or having a meeting was very unproductive. Then, after speaking to the school register, he was very disrespectful condescending and rude. And does not like to communicate with anyone. The school also seems to have a big problem with bullying. I strongly suggest any parent looking at the school read every and all reviews and taken into account. What’s more important to you your child! Or just a daycare

Simple this school sucks.
Don't put your kids in this school or any other renaissance charter school. The academics are way behind with the grade levels. They only care about prepping them for the state test to have the school grade up. Also the will hire people that the background check don't go thru. The teachers are not certified to be teachers and they are teaching .
There is so many bad things from this school is not even funny.
Public school is way better than this schools.

I wrote a review on July 28th but that was before a ton of changes took place. Disregard it. I would not recommend this school. They are not skilled in running a school or in behavior and classroom management. If you are looking for an IEP or 504 plan, they will intentionally drag their feet. I literally overheard a parent asking about why her child hasn't had hw sent home and it was the 5th week of school. They lost a lot of great staff and that truly hurt the school's little bit of hope. OCPS is not the greatest school district as it is. But do your children a favor and find a school that meets your children's needs. You will need to provide your child with tutoring at this school or they will fall behind as they get to high school.

Both of my sons go to this school and I have had a great experience with their teachers and staff. I have seen plenty of students throughout the years that have made classrooms difficult. They address these situations quickly, but many repeat their behavior. A school can only succeed with great teachers and involved parents. I love that they consider the students and staff family.

I would not recommend this school to anyone

A nightmare! Horrible! An experience I will share for ever so that everyone I know can stay far away from that school.

Posted: February 13, 2020

Homework gets piled on top of Uncompleted assignments. My son has ADHD and specific learning disorder. He struggled to keep up so he had a lot of incomplete work plus homework. This triggered a lot of in school and at home behaviors. After school I would sit with him from 4pm until 9pm doing class work and homework, Everyday!! It was outrageous and unfair to his condition. We are now so blessed to be at another school that’s designed for students like him where he’s better accommodated and understood by teachers and staff. We’ve have a 100% turn around in grades and over all behaviors.

Posted: February 13, 2020

They do not Follow IEP/504 plans or accommodations.

Posted: February 13, 2020

My child’s teacher told other students about my sons disabilities. We had a lot of bullying problems after that!

IEP-504 are not followed nor do they care. They push paperwork around and have meetings just for show. Nothing ever actually gets done. For example: I withdrew my son from this school in early October 2019....it’s mid February 2020 and they have yet to send our new school his withdraw paperwork, grades, 504, immunization etc. His new school and I have called and sent numerous emails with no luck.

I have two kids in this school, we have been there since they opened their doors. My kids are thriving in this school and any concerns I might have are quickly addressed by the teachers and administration. You get what you dish out, become active in your child's education and you will see great results.

The experience really depends on the teacher that your child is assigned. Some are great at communicating and others only communicate when necessary. The school used to use Class Dojo and I felt much more connected to what was happening on the daily and the teacher had easy access to the parents and vice versa. I wish they would re-implement or have something similar.

My child's educational requirements were never followed as they described at the beginning of the school year.

Posted: February 15, 2018

This school hires mother's that are teachers and those teachers kids go to this school and are bullies so nothing is ever corrected when the teachers kids bully other kids.

Posted: February 15, 2018

Horrible. We will never put our kids back into this school and I wouldn't recommend it to my worst enemy.

Posted: February 15, 2018

My kids were getting homework that was given to them in a prior year from their prior school meaning they were studying a year behind.

Posted: February 15, 2018

Teachers don't communicate with parents but they ask for your phone number and email address

Posted: February 15, 2018

There is a lot of bullying happening at this school and they do nothing about it. Many parents have left this school because of all these issues including bullying.

Posted: February 15, 2018

Effective leadership shows on effective education and it isn't showing at all.

Posted: April 6, 2017

The faculty and staff try to blame the person being bullied for being bullied.

Posted: April 6, 2017

My child's IEP was never followed and in fact dismissed without my consent.

Posted: April 6, 2017

The principal doesn't seem to care about your concerns.

Posted: April 6, 2017

Too many bullies. Even the teachers have been bullies and they do nothing about it.

Posted: April 6, 2017

Having 4 different teachers within the school year for an English class is not effective for any student.

Posted: April 6, 2017

Homework is not explained well enough to students to be able to do at home without help.

Posted: April 6, 2017

This school is very unorganized and no communication. Two years in and they still have not improved at all. My child has had 4 different teachers from the same subject throughout the year and struggles to make up class work because each teacher has had their own way of teaching. My child also has been bullied multiple times and the teachers or staff do nothing about it. Talking to the principal Mr. Mariano, is completely useless. He won't bother to help or show any concern which explains why this school is graded an F. I do not recommend this school and I will not to my worst enemy. We will not be returning to this school next year.
