This school feels more like a cash grab. It does not feel like they care about the children they just want you to pay for things. This year they raised the aftercare cost from $240 which was already super high, to $300! No explanation, no care for struggling families. NO other school is charging this much. They send so many alerts and use different apps it gets confusing. Lunch is more than a happy meal, NO FREE BREAKFAST. If you child has a balance from anything they are excluded from tips and shamed in front of everyone. Drop off is exhausting as the parking lot is small, i think this used to be a church. They DO NOT direct incoming school traffic or guide you in ANY Way. when i attend events they feel overpriced and underdone. My child likes it here but considering all this, just go somewhere else. Great teachers and its not the worst school ever but you certainly have better options. Feels like they just don't care about nothing but money.

-IMO this is an average school looking great on paper,and this is why. RCSA named itself a "science academy". FL law prohibits charter schools from collecting fees without a specialty. Science is no more part of the curriculum than a typical school.They charge $30 a student per semester.At 800 students, est. $50k/year (public schools can't do this).
-This "public (charter) school" is only accessible to students w/ parents who transport (no busses). "Public schools" must accept all students; RCSA has a waiting list; many students do not get in. Students w/ parent support and economic advantage perform high on standardized tests, a strong factor in grading schools. Most students here are NOT ACADEMICALLY CHALLENGED, & would succeed anywhere.
-Evaluations for students with disabilities are provided by the public school system to charter schools. RCSA has no in-house staff for this. They have no separate curriculum for gifted students, but they still update gifted EP plans (to collect funding? Idk). Mental health counseling is standard at public schools, but not here. Charter schools might receive $8k plus per student w/ academic disability.
-Students can accumulate lunch money debt without parent permission. If unpaid, students are shamed in front of classmates, and field trip and pep rally privileges are revoked.
-They require uniforms with their logo. These can't be customized by local organizations that donate for children in need in bulk. Uniforms often can only be found for high cost at specific retailers (Sometimes the school will give lost and found items to students in need).
-Students have limited restroom access, and must save and manage passes to go. Discipline and rule enforcement often employs unreasonable rigidity & humiliation.
-This k-8 school is forced on a tiny lot directly across from an A grade public elementary school (tore down a church) adjacent to a residential community.Houses now back up to a shed-like monstrosity & asphalt lot with 24-hour lighting. No room for full-sized field or trees for shade; tiny playground.Gym barely fits w/ inadequate seating. Sports include volleyball, basketball, & cross country.They only play other RCSA's & a few other charter schools.Coaches don't teach fundamentals.Performance is low & benching less skilled players makes no competitive difference; they still bench unequally & erode confidence w/ no positive improvement goals.
There are truly some great teachers at RCSA, just like most schools.
