I am extremely disappointed with how staff at Mater Academy handled a recent field trip situation involving my daughter. Communication throughout this school year was unclear, inconsistent, and unprofessional. I had to repeatedly contact staff just to receive basic information about the trip and other things and received little to no follow-up when asking reasonable questions.

The most concerning part was being told that I could not interact with my own child at a public venue after purchasing my own admission ticket independently. Staff repeatedly threatened that police could be called if I attempted to do so, claiming it was “OCPS policy,” yet no one could provide the actual written policy when asked. I even offered a compromise by volunteering to drive myself and requesting to be added as a chaperone, but was denied without explanation.

The entire interaction felt unnecessarily confrontational and more focused on authority than working collaboratively with parents. Consistency also appears to be an issue, as I personally know of other parents who attended similar school field trips without being approved chaperones and were treated very differently.

Unfortunately, after reading recent parent reviews online, it seems concerns about communication, transparency, inconsistent treatment, and professionalism are becoming a recurring theme at this school. Parents should expect respectful communication and reasonable solutions when concerns arise involving their children.

I hope the administration takes these concerns seriously and improves how staff communicate with families moving forward.
