As a recent alumn there I can affirm it was one of the best periods of my life where I felt growth not just academically but emotionally. The friends, teachers, staff, and overall environment is one of driven people filled with a true passion for bettering themselves. I have never had more support in my life than that which was granted to me by the teachers and the principal who absolutely agreed and helped me push myself to my very best. I will forever me thankful for the endless opportunities that West Shore gave me, they are a huge reason for all the success I have had and will have in life.

This school is not open to diversity and will not do anything if your student is harassed or bullied. They pretend on face value that they care about the student but they do not. They are quick to blame the student that is being harassed before actually trying to investigate the situation.

My three children attended and graduated from this school after elementary school. All are doing very well with their professions . We were very involved with our kids education and learning challenges. They respected us as parents and we made sure they respected their teachers and students. . We are Hispanics .

The school isnt special. Some of the teachers dont even grade and give feedback and its more like a completion grade, while others grade more harshly but at least take the time to provide feedback . Its not really consistent. The administration wont do anything about the lack of consistency among teachers teaching the same subject. My daughter had a lot of bullying issues at this school The Principal will write a lot if flowery words when responding to a parent but lacks action and seems more like a politician. . I find the guidance counselor and some teachers will discuss personal matter that is not appropriate.

I go to Westshore now and it is not how people say it is. parents always say "its such a good school" or "you're so lucky to be there". when in realty it's not. take it from a student that goes there, it's not a fun school. people bully you as a "joke" and then laugh if you cry. Then administers do nothing about it. I hate it here. I want to leave, but I can't.

I agree with former posts. I am a certified teacher in the District and actually teach for the majority of the class period. My daughter is given algebra worksheets to complete and be graded. Science Research was a joke; they didn't do anything all period. I taught Civics for many years. My students in Indian River County scored a 96% pass rate on the EOC. I did not use a textbook; I taught. My daughter was assigned textbook pages online and directed to Hip Hughes videos. I love Hip Hughes, and those videos are for the two weeks reviewing for the EOC. They are not meant as a substitute for teaching. I needed to teach my daughter Civics.
Her science teacher last year seems like a great person, but she sat criss-cross applesauce and discussed her life with her students.
70% of the students are white, and this is not an accident. This is not representative of the population in Brevard County. My daughter is a minority, and feels the backlash. She is Hispanic, and was born here in Melbourne. During the charged times of Trump, she was told to "go back to Mexico." Both her parents have advanced degrees and are citizens. She experienced hate speech relating to anti-immigration, homophobia, and jokes about African Americans. It's easy to show academic growth among minorities when there are so few of them. West Shore does have school bus options, so highly-qualified poor students with parents that work and cannot provide transportation, are excluded.
West Shore is a white-flight school. Students are expected to learn based on their own liberty since the student:teacher ratio is higher than other schools in the District. I do know of bullying situations from other parents, and they were ignored. It got to Fleming's desk, and he did nothing.

Very clickish school. Everyone thinks they are so special. Very hard to fit in. Lots of bullying. The teaching is not that special. Lots of unnecessary homework.

The school didn't really help actually teach the kids. In general, the teachers would assignat least 6 hours of homework where we would pretty much have to teach ourselves. Many had to leave because of the work and the school still fails to acknowledge the growing number due to the amount of homework. I frequently would have to stay up till 4 Am just to get work done whereas my friends from other schools would get a tolerable amount of homework. All this school cares about is its test scores and surface image.

I loved it until the bullying ruined everything. I wish the counselors, teachers, and principal would have just stopped it or cared. Not fair at all.

Principal did absolutely nothing about bullying. Guidance counselor suggested to drop out and transfer because admin wasn't going to stop the bullying!

West Shore's goal is to get rid of students who may lower the school's overall test scores. Good students with B's are forced out.

I was bullied by my teacher starting in 7th grade, it was always passed to the side until 9th grade where my 6th period teacher got unbearable. Hed call me worthless and aloof in fount if the whole class, administrators did nothing we had to get the board involved and even then it cause me to transfer to a different school. Ive never felt so isolated and put down in my life no child should ever feel that way at school.

Westshore is an amazing school. When my wife and I are there talking to teachers and administrators, the attitude and atmosphere remind me of college. They are serious! They expect a lot out of their students, they put a lot into their students, and the students produce a lot. I know acceptance into the school is a lottery, and the applicants must meet certain requirements, but if you live anywhere near Melbourne, there is NO reason to not apply.

Westshore is an excellent school. Their motto is excellence achieved and they do live up to it. Excellent administration, excellent teachers, excellent students, and excellent parent involvement. By far the best public jr/sr high school in Brevard. It is also up there in rankings in the state of Florida and the nation. To attend students have to get a slot based on a lottery system and there is always a large waiting list. Academics are definitely #1 at Westshore. Go Wildcats!

Awesome school. The best in Florida. The teachers are very dedicated and the administration is all for education. It is the only high school in Florida awarded a blue ribbon award this year.
