I am a former student from this school. When I was there, the principal (Alvaro) Called me into the office for something i did wrong. At the time I had gotten in trouble and was sitting there listening to her speak about what I did wrong. She then accused me of not paying attention, and asked if I had a record of behavior. I responded that there was a few things I had gotten in trouble for in the past. She then pulled up my record from the year before (a situation that had already been dealt with) and started reading out the internal report for it. When I told her that I knew about it and that I didn't want to hear it again, she said that if I didn't want to hear it I "shouldn't have done it" and kept reading it. By the time she finished with it, she told me that it was a warning. I left the office crying. She also had a habit of touching the younger girls and finger-brushing their hair which made lots of them uncomfortable. Please DO NOT take your kid here. Lots of kids have similar stories. There's also constant fights, lots of racism and homophobia (I was called a cracker and the F slur multiple times in front of staff who did nothing to stop it).

TL;DR: Principal bullied me until I cried, admins let students say slurs, nobody gives two shits about any of it. Stay far away.

I absolutely love teaching at Safety Harbor Middle School! It's my 5th year here. There's a reason we've earned an "A" school grade two years in a row, our teachers, students, and administrators truly care about making this a great place to learn. The support from our admin team is unmatched, and it's one of the biggest reasons we have such teacher retention. Everyone works together and genuinely wants each other to succeed.

A special shout-out to Mr. Wicks, our campus monitor, who is simply the best. He knows our students, cares about them, and helps make our school a safe and welcoming place every day.

Most importantly, our students enjoy being here. They have fun, build relationships, and are challenged to learn and grow. SHMS is a school where learning is happening every day, and I'm grateful to be part of such this school and community.

Interested families, please call us to schedule your tour!

Safety Harbor Middle School has been an incredible experience for our family. One of the things that stands out most is the positive relationships between the staff and students. The teachers and staff genuinely care about the students, creating a welcoming environment where children feel supported, encouraged, and valued. My student has not had a teacher they didn't like. The administration is always visible, approachable, and available whenever parents or students need assistance. I also appreciate the wide variety of clubs, athletics, and elective courses available. There are so many opportunities for students to discover new interests, develop their talents, and become involved in school beyond the classroom. As a parent, I also love that Safety Harbor Middle School has a uniform policy. It takes so much pressure off students to keep up with fashion trends or worry about wearing the "right" clothes to fit in. Instead, students can focus on learning and building friendships, and mornings are much easier for our family.

As a parent, we love Safety Harbor Middle School! Earning an A rating for the second year in a row says so much about the great teachers and staff who really care about kids. My children have had such a positive experience, and it's clear that everyone works hard to help students succeed.

One of the best things about SHMS is all the opportunities available. Whether your child is interested in sports, clubs, music, or academics, there's something for everyone. It's a school where kids can learn, make friends, and find what they enjoy. We love MR. FOX in band and MRS. DIAZ in Lego League.

I'm so glad our kids have gone to SHMS and would definitely recommend it to any family looking for a great middle school with caring teachers, lots of activities, and a positive environment.

They teach well but several teachers left last year, there are always fights and last year they all smoked vapes in the bathroom, allocated lunch seats which limits you to sitting with your friends and put on uniforms I hate that because I can't express my way of being with my clothes.

The school has gone from mediocre to bad. There are some really great teachers at the school, unfortunately very few of them stay at the school for long either due to budget cuts, issues with the school administration or not being able to afford the cost of living in the area. Last school year several of my child's teachers quit mid year and even more left and the end of the school year. This school year has seen a new school administration who have only made the existing problems at the school worse and created new ones. Many parents have removed their children from the school ( or will not be returning next year) as a direct result of the frustration with the lack of action/ communication from the school administration to address ongoing deficiencies. Several parents this year have in desperation reached out to the district school superintendent (Ann Welsh) asking for assistance in resolving the issues and although we have been reassured that action is being taken to improve the situation nothing is actually being done. My advice avoid this school if you can.

We were on the fence about where our oldest would attend middle school and landed at Safety Harbor. We were very pleased with our experience. Our daughter was not in the gifted program but did take advanced honors courses and was able to leave with several high school credits and had her language requirement satisfied. She started 9th grade taking AP courses and is on track to participate in duel enrollment. Our younger daughter is a current 7th grader with a 504 plan. Her guidance counselor and teachers have been great with communication and making sure she gets the accommodations she needs discreetly so she doesn't feel out of place. She is encouraged by the staff and her confidence has grown academically. Having the oppertunity to work in the front office as an assistant has also really helped her come out of her shell. Overall, we couldn't have been happier with the school for both of our daughters.

We came from 2 other FL counties over to Pinellas for their much better experience!
My child is back on track from problems at her prior schools-barely passing & very poor administrators! She's on Honor Roll & Principal's Lst w/3 complex neurological issues this school is accommodating now.
We highly recommend their organization!

As a former student I would like to just say how amazing the teachers are. If you are a parent considering this school for your child I strongly recommend it. I was able to understand and reach my highest potentials and I was able to maintain straight A's all through my 7th and 8th grade years, something I never thought i could do. Your child is guaranteed to have a brilliant time there and the teachers seem to work wonders.

I think that safety harbor middle school is a very good school. It makes all students dress properly and appropriate for school like how anything you wear can only be 2 in. Above the knee, no tanks, wearing appropriate shirts also so for especially girls and for the boys no sagging, etc... I like it all except for how they only have four minutes to switch classes they only have 4min. And I think that the principal could be a little less strict. But other then those the school is very serious about being neat and clean. I would recommend this school and also they need to make the students get out earlier cause my daughter keeps coming home around 5 so not happy about that! :)
