This school, along with the middle school is the reason we bought the house that we did. Both of our children are in the stem fields and this school and the middle school both have phenomenal engineering programs. The program at the Middle and High School was even better in the past, but it is still fantastic. It is designed to give children a taste of the different Engineering fields so that they will be prepared to choose their major and then proceed into life. Great school!

One of my kids graduated from ELH went to college and the other is a junior.
Its a good school, of course you have to support your students learning, you cannot put all in schools hands.

Best school my kid has been in. Due to my job in the military we have moved twice during his Highschool years and I can tell you this school is top notch. I would highly recommend this school to anyone that wants to set their child's future up with SUCCESS. The athletics are top notch, the college readiness is top notch and ya there's some bad apples, but one thing I've learned from being around the world is that there is ALWAYS bad apples, always. I see the bad reviews on here and they are unjustly in my opinion. Highschool is like life, you get what you make of it. There's always someone to complain about something and look right pass ALL of the good that is going on. Keep up the great work

The new principal mr.schimt is very controlling and mean to staff. A bunch of teachers and admin I knew all of my four years of highschool left after class of 2023 graduated. The went to our rival school. They don't care about bullying or racism. The school is overall boring and they don't do much student engagement.

Both my daughters attended ELHS and are now in top universities. I think the teachers are very committed and do a great job preparing students for higher learning.

Both my daughters had a full schedule of mostly AP classes throughout the HS years and earned college credits, however I do think that the AP work load was not as challenging as it should have been. They seemed to breeze through these classes.

On the hand, judging from their success so far at University of FL, I would assume that the AP classes were taught at the correct level and toughness to properly prepare them.

Overall a great school and most of the kids come from solid homes with families that set high expectations, which I think makes a huge difference in promoting a learning culture where ELHS students are really committed to over achieve.

Both of my children attended East Lake and while I think very highly of their overall approach to education, I think the STEM learning could be a bit more challenging. Both of my kids aced the AP classes with little effort. They are smart, but it seemed a bit too easy for them. I was expecting more of a homework burden than I experienced. Outstanding school overall.

My kids all went to East Lake High School ( ELHS) , and this school is so superior to other high schools I have been involved with, both in the Northeast, and in the Mid-Atlantic States, that East Lake High is at least 10 times better than the 'Top Top Tier" schools "Up North". This point cannot be over-stated, as the US population has been fooled into thinking that the 'per pupil spending' metric is the important metric to focus on, when in fact its actually the inverse. That is, East Lake High provides a 10 timer better education than States where the per pupil spending is higher. East Lake has a high level of excellence expectation which is important, versus only 'teaching to the middle'.
The school is nicely sited on a big plot of land not on the main road, a nice area.
There are many Honors and AP classes.
The ELHS teachers are so much more committed and involved, as well as talented ! There is an excellent spirit and energy in the school.

Definately not.... kids with learning disabilities are left behind at this school.
Teachers don't follow 504 plans. They wouldn't even answer my letters when inquiring about my daughters work.

My daughter had a 504 plan. It was never followed ever by any of her teachers. Hey guidance counselor never would check in with her. Her guidance counselor would never follow up with the teachers when i would call to complain. When i went to the principle i was told to find a way to get a long with counselor. My daughter's education was never taken seriously or addressed at this school.
I applied to the Mc Kay scholarship. Got her into a great private school. She's now an A student with support from teachers and administration that care.

I attended this school all four years of high school and graduated in 2000. I hope it's improved since I went there because it was the worst experience in my life growing up. I'd say half the teachers were good. The other half were collecting a pay check and administration did nothing about crappy teachers even with multiple parent complaints (I don't know why little Jimmy can do well in math...it's not like his teacher should know how to do the math problem herself to instuct him, right?). The students parents were rich and spoiled their kids rotten. I had to work to pay for my car and insurance and they thought I had two heads when I told them if I needed to work on a group project it would have to be during lunch. 14 years later, I'm the one with a house, car, college educated with a career...the little brats are driving their now 16 year old cars, living with mommy and daddy still, and working at Dairy Queen...see how much giving your child everything and sending them to a school that teaches them nothing worked for you?

I moved from South Florida thinking the schools the would be better in this area. My child did not perform well in class. I had counselor meetings requesting help so that I can be better informed on the assignments my child must do. I was told that in High schools teachers are not really required to help in such ways but suggested that I put my child on daily report which did not helped because they wouldn't write what is due on the following day only what was not submitted. The parent portal was no help either. Parents should be able to see all upcoming and submitted assignments on line or email.

My daughter is enjoying her first year getting A's & B's which, I contribute to the teaching methods. If the curriculum that goes back to eternity(and it does) is not taught in an interesting way than the students won't stay engaged. Let's face it, new curriculum needs to enter our schools with more focus on everyday life skills& new technologies.More companies need to engage our students at the high school level and not wait until college. By than, we lost the interests of too many kids! I hope they can hold my daughters' interest for an additional 3 more years! I believe four years of high school is a waste of time, used as a holding place to keep them occupied,out of trouble until the last generation retires! If we didn't, our society would have a lot more trouble makers on our hands! It's sad when you think of how much of that OLD Curriculum is not even utilized anymore! Remember the old saying: A Mind Is A Terrible Thing To Waste, well we need to stop wasting theirs! If my daughter graduates from East Lake High then they did their job. Their graduation rate is one of the best! God bless those hard working teachers and staff for keeping them occupied & engaged! Kathleen K
