I did one year here as a new student to the county and this was genuinely the worst schooling year of my life, from the unchecked bullying, power tripping deans, and the little to no support from teachers this was the worst year or school year in my life. Thank god every day I left that school. Single handedly the only decent administration member there was the guidence counselor. I cannot tell you how many times i cried in the main hall bathroom. Thank god im gone

My son just completed 6th grade and he had a great year. His teachers kept us in the loop with what they were learning and when tests were in the classroom almost on a weekly basis. Anytime I reached out to his teachers with a question or concern they were always more than willing to help. The front desk staff were also very helpful and friendly. I feel like most of the bullying is just this age group and is going to happen at any middle school.

My experience was very disappointing to say the least. For starters the bullying was so intense that I often went home to sob in my mothers arms. I would never recommend this school to anyone at all. There are only a few teachers that actually care about teaching and wanting to be there. The students do not feel encouraged and feel overworked, causing the students to take their anger and frustrations out on the teachers and their peers/fellow students.

Moved from out of state & I was nervous about sending my daughter here, based on previous reviews, but have been more than pleased with her experience! The communication from her teachers has been consistent, she has excelled in all of her classes & even though she has no interest in being "a popular" kid, she has found her crew.

Like any school these days, there are the privilaged brats that seem to be everywhere, but that is not the fault of the school. If parents wouldn't give their kids cell phones at this age, it would solve MANY of the problems. I would most definitely would recommend the school to others.

My child went here for 2 years and it could have not been a worse experience from a social aspect. Kids are awful to one another and teachers don’t seem to do anything about it. She has an iep and the case manager who also happens to be a teacher, was down right rude. As a parent of a student with an iep for 5 years before starting at Swiss Point, we’ve had experience with several case managers and this one was by far the worst. I also could never get a sense of what exactly they were doing to adhere to her iep. There was also a pretty brutal fight between two students last year where a student/s took video that got out. Afterwards the kids were all essentially villainized for having phones on campus, when all they were really upset about was the fact that their lack of ability to control the students was exposed.

My kid experience at this school is terrible. If u r a colored kid going to this school please avoid. Because there is a lot of RACISM, and BULLYING at this school My child comes home everyday saying that people were being racist towards him and towards others. Teachers and higher authority are not helpful with the racism at all.

Worst school, especially a student with an IEP.The upper management is very sketchy and retaliates. The upper management from Principal to Deans are not good. Most of the teachers are good when you stay proactive. Avoid if you can.

So im currently in 7th grade and ive been there since 6th grade, most of the teachers are pretty good, compared to the k-8th i went to, the way they teach at swiss and the stuff they have us learning is way better than that k-8th i went to, the kids there for the most part are great, most of teachers give extra help if someone doesn't understand what their teaching them, there isn't a lot of bullying here it's just mainly the 6th graders but it's usually dealt with fast, the sport coaches espically the football coaches are amazing, and im proud to attend a school like this for once.

There is virtually no bullying at Swiss Point, but if there is any, then it is dealt with swiftly and handily

Posted: December 6, 2016

Especially in 6th grade, where there is a Teen Leadership course offered

Posted: December 6, 2016

There is ample discipline at Swiss Point, helping kids develop helpful life skills

Posted: December 6, 2016

Although some teachers are bad, i would say about 90 percent of them are caring, helpful people that just love teaching kids.

Posted: December 6, 2016

There is a lot of homework in the advanced program, but if you sign up for advanced, you get a lot of homework. Simple as that

Posted: December 6, 2016

I am currently an Advanced student in Switzerland Point Middle School, in my 8th grade year, and I have been at Swiss since 6th grade. And, to be quite frank, lots of these reviews are quite deceptive. If your kid is in Advanced courses, they were well aware of the work load when they showed up, and if they are unable to complete their assignments, then they simply don't belong in the gifted program. Also, about the discipline, if you just follow the basic rules of the school and are respectful to the teachers and staff, the deans or assistant principle won't bother you, and although I do agree that Mr. Beck is a vampire, he is completely fair. Also, on the subject of teachers, the parent comments are really quite deceptive. Lots of the teachers are motivated and come ready to teach. And the standards? You can't expect them to change those! They are just teachers! They teach to the standard because they want to teach their job. Believe me, I don't like it any more than anyone else, but the teachers can't change it, and us kids can't change it. And even though there are some bad teachers at Swiss Point (I won't name any names) this is the REAL WORLD. And in the real world, you aren't necessarily going to like everyone you have to work with, but you just have to learn to suck it up. So please, if you were dissuaded by any of the negative reviews, please reconsider, you don't want your kid to miss out on this amazing school.

There is tons of diversity at Swiss Point, and most of the teachers are more than happy to help any student in any way they can

Posted: August 5, 2016

If something happens, the assistant principal Wayne Beck will blame students, let the students pay the price even students didn't do anything wrong.

Posted: August 5, 2016

Posted: August 5, 2016

The assistant principal Wayne Beck think he is the authority. He won't listen to your side of story. No questions answered. There is no fairness, honesty and integrity in this school.

Posted: June 18, 2016

Most teachers are not effective at this school. One female computer teacher for 7th grade is downright rude, and clearly burned out. She gives the students a hard time and never returns phone calls. There is a 7th grade science teacher that is very caring and clearly there for the love of teaching and also a male 8th grade social studies teacher that too is caring and makes the lesson fun and interesting. But most of the teachers just don't really try to teach the lesson which is frustrating for both kids and parents.

Posted: June 18, 2016

I agree with homework, but the amount is out of control. My son is involved in competitive sports and is up until 10pm trying to get the homework done.

Posted: June 18, 2016

They are strict with cheating, fighting, lying, etc which is good for the kids so they know what is expected of them behavior wise.

Posted: June 18, 2016

The teachers are frustrated that they must teach what is required, that being said, should not allow many of them to come to the classroom with bad attitudes. Many of them do not teach and expect the kids to figure all of the work out themselves. The teachers are terrible at communication. Never return calls or emails. The administration will take calls, so atleast you can get through to someone. They do take a great stand on bullying from what my child has told me,so I commend them on that!

I have an 8th grader at this school who used to love Swiss point in his 6th grade year when the English guy was there. Apparently when he left so did any fun they had there.

Posted: May 7, 2014

This school used to be the gifted cluster site, and still claims to be though they have absolutely no gifted education whatsoever. As per another parent's post, teachers no longer teach, but only hand out test packets and tests, and students are expected to teach themselves, and prepare themselves for the daily tests that comprise their grades entirely. It's a punitive environment for children, and not conducive to learning or the love of learning. It's difficult to discern which are school, district, state or Federal policies, but the end result is children suffer, and their education is destroyed.

Before 2009 when my older child was a student here, the school had a different principal and most of the teachers were awesome. Under the current principal, the quality of the school has really gone down and many of the really good teachers have left the school. The quality of education is really bad now and there is no parent involvement.

Switzerland Point Middle School is an excellent school. We have 14 years experience with three youth who have attended. Our two oldest were well prepared for their high school experience. Our youngest is enjoying his middle school years and is growing academically. The teachers and leadership are excellent and dedicated to student progress and learning. We continued to be very impressed with St. John's County Schools. I know some folks had issues with academic changes in the system but our 14 years have seen continued improvement in an already excellent system. I am sure the school will continue to progress and develop. Some programs like the band program are well supported by parents even though the county has cut funding. All in all the school is one of the best. Education in general needs to continually evolve to promote individual growth.

I really strongly do not like this school. The teachers here do not know how to teach at all!!!!! I am failing my classes because they don't teach the academics they have us copy their lesson plans basicly and figure it out from there. This is my first year (8th grade) here and I wish I was back at my old school. And if I had a kid, I no offense wouldn't send them to this school. I'm not happy with the school, needs better teachers that connect with their students and teach right .

I am a parent and would agree with the post by the 8th grade student. Most of the teachers do not teach at all. They give the children learning goals and ask them to teach themselves. Their homework looks as if it comes right out of a teachers lesson plans. Very strange, the students are lost and have no idea how to approach this type of work. Once you are in an advanced class..... good luck moving to anything else! And even the principal will not aid in moving a child out of this. Especially, 8th grade advanced science ....no moving out of that! Teachers need to go back to the basics and TEACH these children not expect them to teach themselves!! I am not happy with teachers or teaching style at all!!!!!! very unimpressive.

Almost the same as the 2nd newest review, I thought this school was good first but once I came, I saw how bad the education is.

Posted: July 16, 2012

i went here for my th grade year and all the teachers were amazing and everything is WONDERFUL!

Posted: July 13, 2012

My son started in this school under one principle and the environment was excellent. The teachers would communicate with the parents and the parents were welcome always. By the time he left in 8th grade he has under a different principle the school felt like a jail they never wanted parents in to see what was going on and the education dropped like a brick. He was in the gifted/pre-ap program which was very hard to get into. Now they will let anybody into it and it is not even hard. Would never send the rest of my children to this school under this leadership.
