South Daytona Elementary has come a long way. The current administration truly cares and is making this school a great place to learn and grow! Our son was in pre-K last year and is starting kindergarten this year, and we have nothing but great things to say about the school, its administrators, staff, and teachers. We both work in education, so we have a lot of background to compare this to; this is not just a feeling. It is also backed by data, including rising test scores and attendance rates.

Horrible/no communication with this school- nobody knows what’s going on, best example is controlled chaos. God forbid if you’re a working parent, you’re either late because of the pick up/drop off line or you don’t get to attend any on campus events for your child such as open house or meet the teacher due to their time restrictions. Zero stars doesn’t do it justice.

The principal at this school is not qualified to run a school. She has no respect for parents or most of her teachers. She is all about having the power. Principals should support their students, teachers and parents not live to tear them down! Change in leadership is definitely needed. I can no longer sub at this school knowing there is no support from admin.

They try their best but their hands are tied.

The new principal does not enforce any type of discipline. The students are getting out of control because they know there are no consequences for their actions. There has always been consequences prior at this school and the kids knew they had to follow the rules or consequences would apply. I believe the teachers are doing their best but it’s a losing battle! Two or 3 disruptive kids can interrupt classroom learning. This is not fair to the kids who want to learn. Please re-think your policy!

I love this school. The teachers, adm and office staff are amazing. They are all there for our kids. I do have a problem with the school nurse. My daughter has been sent to the nurse for not feeling well and she just dismisses her. If my child is sick, I want a phone call.

The teachers and staff at this school really work together to create a positive school environment for the kids. Anytime you walk down the halls here, you will see administrators hi-fiving students, talking with them, telling them positive affirmations, and more. My daughter has attended here for the past 2 years and her teachers were awesome and really cared that she was learning and excelling. We came from a private preschool/VPK, and had no problem adjusting in to the public school system here. My advise to ANY parents.....get involved in some form. Volunteer when you can, get to know the teachers, staff, etc. Thank you SDE! We look forward to another year here!

I've heard of people having bad experiences at this school in the past, but in the past couple years I've had an amazing experience. They have revamped a lot in a couple years! It's exciting to see the changes and improvements! There are so many amazing teachers here that are constantly participating in training events and continued learning workshops and the recent change in administration is exciting. I've heard amazing things about the new principal and I'm excited to see continued improvements! It's nice to see such a shift in the faculty culture and to see a strong community building around our kids.

Awesome! My kids have loved attending. The consider the teachers they had as teachers for life. Some of the teachers helped develop my daughters love of reading, and that makes me so happy.

Posted: July 17, 2018

The teacher care about their students, they want to see them succeed.

Posted: July 17, 2018

The school has held fundraisers to help students who are chronically ill. This shows the students that helping those in need is what everyone should strive to do.

The administration and teachers at this school is a joke. I am sorry to say that this school use to be a good school before the new principal arrived 2 or 3 years ago. I am very disappointed in the qualify of education at this school, and as a parent I am seriously thinking about pulling by daughter out of this school At least my son is moving to 6th grade, hopefully that will be better.

Posted: July 17, 2017

As, a parent the homework my kids were bringing home was a total waste of time, I though teachers for the most part was just giving busy work, and pointless.

Posted: July 17, 2017

I believe that as a parent, this school tries to develop strong character in the students, but for the most part fails because of student behavior issues, and bullying.

Posted: July 17, 2017

What leadership? Total useless, incompetent and ineffective when it comes to providing leadership at this school. The discipline at this school is a joke? When studenets are send down to the office for discipline problems all they do is sit at a desk in the office all day. This school and administation is clueles when it comes to discipline. Students are continuously allowed to discrupt classroom instruction without any consequences.

The principal does not know how to manager her staff, totally incompetent administrator. The state scores that was just release tells the picture of how lazy the teachers and administrators are this school. This is a "D" rated school down from a "C" last year. What does that tell you. I would not want my child to go to this school.

Posted: July 12, 2017

What homework, what a joke this is

Posted: July 10, 2017

Worksheets and busy work for homework is the policy at this school.

Posted: July 10, 2017

The teachers at this school are ineffective and lazy. They only do the minimum amount of work that is necessary.

Posted: July 10, 2017

I heard from other parents about their child being bullied at this school, and when the parents went to discuss the issue with the Principal, she did nothing about it. Bad attitude towards teaching children.

Posted: July 10, 2017

I would think twice about putting your child in this horrible school. There are better schools then this one. It is obvious that the teachers and administrators are lazy based on the on low performance of students at this school.

Posted: May 27, 2017

This by, this is one of the worst schools in Volusia County. If you are a parent who are reading all of these reviews, I would think twice about sending your child to this school.

Posted: May 27, 2017

Most of the homework teachers gives is pointless. For the most part it is computer worksheets.

Posted: May 27, 2017

There a few good teachers that really care about their students, and take an interest in their learning, but for the most part the majority of the teachers are ineffective, lazy and does the minimum amount of work required.

Posted: May 27, 2017

Bullying is a problems at this school, and administration does nothing to stop it. For the most part, students are respectful to other students, teachers and staff.

Posted: May 27, 2017

Posted: May 27, 2017

Bullying is a problems at this school, and administration does nothing to stop it. I know of a specific incident of a parent pulling their child out of this school because he was being bullied. The worst part is that the teacher did not do anything to put a stop to it, and even denied that it was happening. These teachers are losers and don't care about students, and do anything when there is a problem.

Posted: May 26, 2017

For the most part, teachers gives students busy work, because they have to give homework.

Posted: May 26, 2017

Teachers at this school do the bare minimum amount of work as possible, for the most part, teachers and administrators at this school are very lazy.

Posted: May 26, 2017

Absolutely no character, integrity, or respect shown by students towards other students, administration, teachers and staff.

Posted: May 26, 2017

Horrible administration. The principal is totally useless and ineffective as an administrator.

Posted: May 26, 2017

Posted: May 26, 2017

absolutely not, the administration does nothing to stop students from being bullied.

Posted: May 26, 2017

This is the worst school ever. Parents are better off homeschooling their children rather then sending them to this school. I know for a fact from people that I have talked to, that have pulled their children out of this school because of the severe bullying that takes place at this school.

Posted: May 25, 2017

Horrible. There are entire neighborhoods who choose homeschooling over attending this school

Posted: May 25, 2017

Posted: May 25, 2017

Some of the teachers employed b this school have no concern for the students whatsoever. A kindergarten teacher completely destroyed my daughter's love of school to the point she would cry and attempt to hide her shoes to keep from having to go.

Posted: April 19, 2017

Current Principale been there for two years she dont know how to manage her staff or teachers , hired lazy teachers who dont care.

Posted: April 19, 2017

No, My sons teacher never reported to me my child was getting bullied and said she never saw it, thats because she always doing something else or in another classroom,
and didnt say sorry or make anything better

Posted: April 19, 2017

Teachers here place blame on parents and are confrontional, do not accept where they fall short, just want your child to sit quietly in there chair all day.

Posted: April 19, 2017

Just worksheets printed off computer and thats it

Posted: April 19, 2017

Horrible school, if you want your child to get bullied and teachers who dont care, lazy and place blame on parents , staff who dont care or resolves issues such as bully which should be zero tolerance, this is the school for your child. The teachers really dont teach them much either all they care about is FCAT and have students sit quietly in their chairs all day who wont bother them. I moved from Orlando to here and my son is only in the 1st grade and is having all these issues because they dont care. 1st and last year here.Would not recommend better off homeschooling.

Posted: February 25, 2016

The teachers are ineffective because they throw everything on the parents. If you want your child to have a good education they tell you to do it yourself.

Posted: February 25, 2016

Here's the thing about their homework. Most of it's average but much of it's pointless. Many of the problems ask the students for their opinion and it's been my experience that if the teachers don't agree with YOUR OPINION they will mark it wrong. My son has brought math and english homework home and the pages were misprinted so much so that instead of reprinting them the teachers asked the students to rewrite the questions or problems themselves and then answer them.

Posted: February 25, 2016

This school places all responsibility on the parent. Your better off teaching your child everything you can on your own because that's what the teachers expect.

Posted: February 25, 2016

I read these reviews and I strongly disagree. The teachers are extremely lazy, education is average if that and if your single father like me let me tell you right now DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD TO THIS SCHOOL!!! THEY DO NOT LIKE SINGLE DADS AND THEY'VE MADE THAT PERFECTLY CLEAR!!! He's gone to this school for 2 years now. His grades are excellent but the lessons and homework are printed off of a website. I don't call that a higher education. The first year I requested a conference with his teacher at least 5 times and directly asked her for a conference and she said she would get back with me and NEVER DID. She was out almost the entire year having babies and every time I did see her that was her excuse for not having a conference with me. My son is now in 2nd grade. He now has 2 lazy teachers and again his grades are great but he's not being challenged enough and their response to him finishing before everyone else in his class is not to move him up or give him more work but to make him sit quietly until the rest of the class catches up to him. I take issue with that. NO ONE AT THIS SCHOOL SEEMS TO CLAIM ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE WORK THEY DO. His teachers were very confrontational when I met them for a parent/teacher conference. I told them my child isn't being challenged enough and they needed to allow him to do more and somehow they took that and told me flat out "Well, that's a job for his parent it's not our job to do that" I let them know "Yeah your his teachers it is your responsibility to teach him all you can" They quickly shot that down and again tried to place the blame on me and it concluded with them informing me that my child is a B+ student and if I expect him to learn more than I need to teach him more myself. That type of response from a teacher to a parent is unacceptable to say the least. My child just recently tested gifted and I went today to have a conference with them and another woman and right off the bat once the woman realized I was a single parent and that no woman would be joining me they quickly down played my child's score when I was told by the school psychologist that he scored a 135 and the requirement for gifted was 130 and higher. When I told them it's not right that they use my status as a single parent against my child I was told to leave. My child will not be attending next year UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES!!!

Great school, great communication and a pleasure to be at. I was so happy with the school when my two girls went there, that I applied for a position in the office. Go Dragons!
