Assumption Catholic School has been a huge disappointment to me. I am not judging all Catholic schools just my experience at Assumption. I am not Catholic I am Pentecostal. I have seen alot of judgemental people at this school who are not welcoming. I feel sorry for my granddaughter who has to go there because I know they treat her the same way. At my church we accept and love all. And we send a van out into the disadvantaged neighborhoods and pick up children who's parents do not bring them. We want them to know Jesus and his love for all. That is not the feeling you get when you visit Assumption. I wish my granddaughter could feel that at her school but all I see is stress. She is constantly stressed out and she never feels comfortable. There is way too much work at school and as if that's not enough she goes home and has Homework for 2 more hours. It's miserable. And the staff are not supportive. They are more concerned with if her mom went to mass. It's all about appearances. I know this to be true because my grandson is in the early learning center and he is the sweetest most kindest boy in the whole class and my daughter wanted him to go to Assumption with his sister and he was the only child who was not accepted and my daughter asked why and the Principal told her because she wasn't going to mass enough. Well of course she asked other parents about there attendance and come to find out they don't even go to church. So what is the real reason we will never know but this is not a good look for a church who want people to come to their services.

We have been a part of Assumption since VPK. The campus is top notch, excellent academics & sports programs! All of the teachers we have had are caring, supportive and look out for the best interest of their students. The administration is always open and welcoming to conversation regarding any concerns. Our children love going to school each morning and Assumption feels like home to them. Highly recommend.

The principal is awful. This school has gone completely downhill and I’m so upset about how bad it has gotten. The teachers are a hit or miss. Most of the staff is condescending, self-centered, and not compassionate in any way. If you’re looking for a structured and organized school with great academics and a welcoming staff, stay far from this place. Oh also, you’ll spend about an hour every day sitting in their pick up line after school.

As a family, we chose Assumption for their ECLC program. We had toured other schools, but never felt the immediate warmth and welcome as we did when we walked through the gates. Spending two years at the ECLC we became more involved and soon realized that we wanted to fully envelop ourselves into the parish and join fully by converting to the Catholic faith. Taking turns, myself (Adair) completed the RCIA program at Assumption and was welcomed into the faith in July and Nick is now going through the process as well. We fell in love with Assumption. The fellowship that we feel, even through Covid, is unmatched. We know that not only do the teachers and faculty look out for our kids and love watching them grow, but we share that same feeling with the fellow parents. We watch our kids play, encourage each other, are shoulders to lean and cry on in the parking lot, without judgement or expectation. It is like we have always been a part of the Parish, even though it has only been three years.

We have had three of our children in this school and we are extremely pleased! Each kid is different and teachers learn to understand their different learning styles. The teachers will push your kids to do more and that is what you want!

Our son attended ACS for 2.5 years. We thought the Christian base education along with smaller class size would be good for him. At the time of enrollment we did not realize he would later be diagnosed with ADHD and anxiety. We would later find out how absolutely wrong we were. While teachers did their best, we got little help from the administration. He never received In school suspension or out of school suspension and to our knowledge was never "written up". We had a handful of meetings over the years for what we thought were to find a way to better help him. However while in 1st grade he got into trouble. We never disagreed that what he did was wrong or that punishment was in order. But after meeting with the principle we were informed that he would no longer be allowed to attend school there. We reached out the father Fred...who did not have the decency to return our call but instead sent an email stating that it wasn't his first occurance (surprise to us!) we reached out the the Diacies to find out what our options were and again did it receive the courtesy of a return call to discuss. I returned to the school the day after the occurance to obtain him records and had already informed them I wanted to have copies of his invite record but upon arrival was given only what would be needed to provide to another school. When I inquired about the rest of the record I was told by the principle it had not yet been reviewed and therefore she could not release it. I found it odd since supposedly it was reviewed with father Fred prior to him being told to leave. But I allowed several weeks to pass again again requested the entirety of his records. This time I was told that the appropriate information was sent to his new school and the only thing I was provided were a handful of scanned daily sheets where smile or frown faces had been highlighted. As the were highlighted, the scanned copy did not show which was highlighted each time. There were no documents showing these other occurances and I don't understand how school can refuse access to his records. I later heard rumor that my son was not the first to experience issues after being diagnosed with ADHD but no one wants to speak out for fear of retaliation. in one correspondence we were advised that we should not be discussing this situation or our time at ASC with anyone. What a SHAME!

This school puts a huge emphasis on grades and AR test scores. If your child makes a C or misses a couple of questions on an AR test, be ready for the tears at home when the school administrators humiliate them in front of the other children. Although their intentions are good and the teachers think that it will motivate the kids to do better, it is instead causing anxiety and resentment among the children. In general the teaching is well done. However, there is not enough emphasis on practicing basic math and too much emphasis on cramming in a large variety of math. Therefore, the students end up not knowing any of the math well. Again, the intentions appear to be good but are misguided in my opinion. Finally, like many schools, the cliques are very disturbing (populars, non populars, etc) and the teachers appear to strongly favor the popular kids.

This is our first year at Assumption. My daughter loves the school. Her teachers are outstanding! She looks forward to going to school each day, and I am happy with the excellent education she is receiving.

My children have attended assumption for the last 4 years. They have had top notch teachers and precious friends. They wake up excited to go to school every day. As a parent, I can't ask for anything more than that!

This year has been the best the school has been in years because of the new principal!! Unfortunately, she is leaving after this year which we all knew because she was brought in to clean up the mess left by the prior administration. Sadly, they have announced that the new principal is a very inexperienced less than 1 year experience as an assistant vice principal and less than 5 years overall teaching experience. She seems to only be concerned with her "inner circle" and I fear that this school will go back to the way it was a couple of years ago, basically only beneficial for staff kids and people who are close friends with her. I feel her immaturity will have a very negative impact on the students and the school as a whole.

The only thing that is important to the Assumption administration and Fr. Fred is money. Assumption is just another money hungry business. Do yourself a favor and don't put your child here.

What is going on this year.? I am so upset by the new administration and some of the changes they are making. Is it change just for the sake of change??? Do you really wish to remove all signs of our past principal at the expense of our kids? The love of students,and respect for families s is gone. I am so disheartened by what I see, and will look for a new school for next year

To respond to "what a joke". So what is the "truth" and how do you know that it is the truth? I also have been extremely disheartened by what I have witnessed this past year. I saw people put more interest in the gossip than in the best interest of the children. For the last 5-6 years this school has grown and developed into a wonderful all around Christian based educational powerhouse, with the children growing into fine young adults. Look at our strong 8th grade class moving on. Say what you want, but the leadership at the school has made it all possible. Maybe "what a joke" just has another agenda. The truth is definitely in the children! Let's hope whoever takes over continues in the high standards set in place., and small minded people stop spreading ugly gossip.

I have been extremely disheartened by what I have experienced this past year in the Assumption Community . Instead of being an example of a loving supportive Christian environment, it has been one of gossip, hatred and disappointment. The principal is an amazing lady who is a great example of Christianity. She is kind, compassionate, caring, accepting of human diversity, and a true example of what it means to LOVE ONE ANOTHER. It is Assumptions loss. It will never be the same and she will be a blessing wherever she goes.

This used to be a great school but it has taken a downward spiral over the past couple of years. The principal has let her personal life interfere with her job. Problems are never resolved, she will not call you back and if your child isn't related to someone who works there then they will be treated poorly. As another reviewer pointed out the principals daughter "runs" the aftercare program and is abusive towards the children. Over the past 2 years more families have left this school than it has gained and the problems are a direct reflection of the poor administration. Don't bother takin your issues to the pastor Fr. Fred because if you can't write him a big donation check he doesn't have time for you.

I work in the public schools and am so thankful that my children are able to attend Assumption Catholic school. They look forward to going to school each day and come home excited about what they have learned. They have passionate teachers and sweet, well behaved friends. The staff all have smiles on their faces and know the names of the children.

I have been a part of the Assumption community for many years. The Christ like atmosphere is outstanding. The children are taught Gospel values which is a reflection of the way the school is run. The family environment is welcoming and comforting to both new and returning students. The academic education is rigorous yet all students are able to create and meet goals. Assumption Catholic School is truly a place where you will see teachers teaching as Jesus did.

There is no perfect school. It just doesn't exist! if you are looking for perfect, you will be searching for a long time! A great school does exist, and Assumption Catholic School is GREAT!!!! What is so great about Assumption? The list is long, but here are a few things: 90 Years of education! Loving and caring faculty and administration Catholic identity Rigorous academics Large population of teachers' children attend (speaks volumes) Best teachers in the city, hands down Leadership with open door policy The list goes on. If you are looking for a balanced, well rounded school, well, you have found it. Striving to bring out the individuality in each child is a lost art! Children learn and process information differently. They are all unique, and Assumption Catholic School truly provides a happy, nurturing, well rounded education focusing on individual needs. Our family loves Assumption!!

Sadly, I have to rate the school poorly now based on the horrible mistreatment of the students by the principal's daughter. The principal has placed her high school daughter in a position of power over the younger students (in charge of them in after-care). She abuses this power by verbally and physically mistreating the young students. (E.g., making them sit in difficult positions for a long time, or run laps outside without water.) My children have come home in tears on multiple occasions. I have spoken with several teachers about it and each of them know what is happening, but are afraid to speak up for fear of being fired by the principal (who recently divorced and fired her husband). Children left the summer camp program in droves b/c of the actions of the principal's daughter. This unfortunate event is a poor reflection on the principal's judgment and the oversight (or lack thereof) by school officials.

Assumption has "been in our family for years" I am a grandmother to four students who attend there, their parents attended there, and I attended there! The family atmosphere is superior, the education, morals and ethics instilled in the studernts is beyond excellent. I have opportunity to be on the campus for events and what a great feeling to see other "alumni" of my era still there too! Generations of families tell a story that no marketing strategy can compare to. The feeling of community, dedication and acceptance puts the children who attend there, armed for the "real world" that is so challenging this day and time.....My parents scrapped together the $14.00 tuition, my children are sacrificing for their children and if there is a way to see into the future, my grandchildren will send thier children to Assumption! The school remains just small enough that all children are familiar with each other, the parents are familiar with the students and the adage , "it takes a village.." is put to use daily at Assumption. Children of this generation deserve and will need the strong basis of education and convictions of right and wrong to be productive citizens and role mdels.
