My daughter attended this school and the students there are outrageously disrespectful. They are so disrespectful during the national anthem. I’m disappointed in the coaching here; coaches are completely unsportsmanlike to other teams. Students here repeatedly make fun of God and don’t show fellowship. The teachers here are unable to control classrooms because of the students behaviors.

In my experience as a student here has been great. Everyone is extremely nice, but some of the teachers go through the subjects they teach too fast, making it hard for the students.

I am currently enrolled at this school. I have a good friend group. Some people do not welcome you to their friend group, but if you find your own group of weirdos, then this school will be a happy experience. I recommend Mr. Rhiner and Mrs. Nunley for 6th grade.

We had to pull our child out because of the bullying. The head of school did nothing when it was brought to his attention. We would never recommend this school.

I would NOT recommend ESJ Beaches campus for elementary. Unqualified teacher with very little behavior management skills, large class sizes (more than public schools) and very little diversity. Behavior issues are abundant with administration doing very little to prevent these issues from occurring or protecting students from becoming targets of student verbal and physical aggression. We will not be returning next year.

I cannot express enough my overall sentiment that ESJ was one of the best things to happen to my kids. They were given time and attention in a loving and really fun environment. The school is forward thinking. They have the teen mind and mood at hand and they address it with so much compassion while dishing out a tremendous academic program. Their academic program is heavily supported; the teachers make time to be sure that if your child wants extra help, they are available. College counseling is a true bonus at keeping kids directed to their future after ESJ without putting an excessive amount of pressure on the student; a great mix. Athletics and friendships kept mine very busy! From the first days to the last, I count ESJ among the most positive influence on my boys.

Homework is thoughtfully given. It is not just piled on for the sake of piling it on. Homework was a great way to prepare for question asking in the classroom and assessments of material.

Teachers at this school strive to instruct thoroughly and build relationships with students individually, getting to know their personalities, strengths, weaknesses, and academic habits. They compliment positive attributes in students like leadership and kindness towards others. They are very observant of the teen moods and excellent communicators with parents. They are pro-active on all levels

Rev Greene has a pulse on the entire school and has surrounded himself with quality people. All experiences with leadership and administration on this campus resulted in a positive for my kids, even if it didn't start out that way :)

Students are really taught to be mindful of their words and actions to others. While some of the students might say that they go overboard to be "politically correct", this is tremendous training for the world they enter post high school.

ESJ values the whole student and has many opportunities for students to find and grow their strengths. The faculty and staff are wonderful and really want our boys to do well and to be successful. They truly have their best interest at heart. ESJ teaches students to be responsible for their education while keeping in continuous communication with parents. We are so happy we chose ESJ for our boys.

Most of the kids here are very nice with a Christian background and get good grades. A few of them have been slacking or maybe talking in class, but they usually get in trouble; my school doesn’t tolerate disrespect. In all, the kids here are nice, hardworking, smart and respect others.

This is definitely not a school for special needs kids. But the small class sizes let the teachers help everyone and the school does have a very good student services program for kids that need counseling or tutoring.

Never once had they’re been a fight since maybe my parents went here. The school quickly expels all the bad kids by the time they reach high school. There are some self centered cool girls, but you’ll find that anywhere.

In all, I love Episcopal. The teachers are awesome, I’m learning so much, the campus is beautiful. I’ve never had such awesome lunches that are FREE! I have some good friends and the sports here are fantastic! I love how we have a rotating schedule so that we can take a break from a subject once a week or so. This is the best school in Jacksonville! Go Eagles!

The teachers at this school are incredibly effective because they truly love teaching and sharing their knowledge with students. It’s so obvious that the kids know when someone really loves teaching and they respond with just as much enthusiasm in the subject as the teachers!

School has an Honor Council and Discipline Council that Includes students. There’s open dialogue with students, their teachers and the administration. so expectations can be communicated. The campus environment is supportive and kind. Respect the dignity of every human being is the mantra there.

The Administration is heavily involved with the day-to-day activities of the students. They are visible, on campus and engaged with the students. They are true educators and wonderful role models.

All of the leaders in this school are impressive- from the deans to the various heads of school. What is confusing to us is that the Head of School states in his addresses to parents - that ESJ is challenging, but teachers will meet the kids where they're at. Only the first part is consistently true. At the beginning of this school year, he said that he allocated more funding in the student services dept. because he believes it's possible that some of the great thinkers in this world may have dyslexia. Let me be clear: if you have a language based learning difference it is very difficult to survive at this school. Why not encourage the teachers to give different types of assessments besides paper and pencil? Would a student learn less from a meaningful project? Why is there never/seldom a choice? These bright, out of the box thinkers are not taken into consideration as part of the school-wide educational programming. One size does not fit all.

ESJ is stifling the development and creativity of some of the most unique thinkers by over homeworking and paper/pencil testing them. The well-intentioned staff in Student Services is doing what they can to get students to fit the mold. Some of the exceptional teachers will see a motivated student struggle and accommodate as needed to allow the student to flourish. Others will not think of budging- one size fits all. These teachers seem to take a "why is this kid here?" & "not my problem" approach. How can they not care that a student who does all the work and loves learning is getting F's? Outstanding teachers don't let this slide! Why aren't smart, MOTIVATED kids with learning differences given the same chance to succeed by ALL the teachers. Perhaps some of them need to be educated on alternative ways to assess learning- or be taught small but meaningful ways to adjust so that kids CAN SHOW WHAT THEY ACTUALLY KNOW. Yes, it does mean some (minimal) extra thinking and preparation for the teachers. Why are we afraid to ask this of them? Utilize Student Services- there are some bright minds there willing to assist and back you up! The infrastructure and funding to better meet the needs of a more comprehensive group is already at ESJ. Much more thought and attention needs to be devoted to this department.

I believe that all challenging college prep schools need to revisit the oppressive amount of required homework. It seems like they are all pushing these students to the breaking point. The goal should be to provide students with the framework for meaningful learning experiences that they take with them for life. There has got to be a better way. This needs to be addressed school-wide.

MANY of the teachers at ESJ are experts in their field and go above and beyond to ensure that the kids are learning. Others will not bend if the student does not fit into their required mold. Hard working, motivated students desiring to learn should be able to do so. A school of this caliber needs to do much more to see that ALL teachers are willing to help these students eager to learn/understand do just that. We are not talking about lazy kids - or kids that don"t put in time or effort. The "My way or the highway" approach to teaching (exhibited by some teachers, not all) is archaic. They need to shake it up a little: require different ways for kids to show that they are learning. One size does not fit all. Reduce the number of paper & pencil tests. Give them some options to show what they have learned. The info will then be more meaningful to them and become part of them for life.
Some PE teachers are a bit rough around the edges and speak gruffly at times. The fine arts faculty is exceptional.

Episcopal is an EXCEPTIONAL school for a certain type of student. For this type of student- the opportunities for education, sports, fine arts and service are unparalleled in Jacksonville. The families and the general atmosphere at ESJ are warm and welcoming. The school needs to administer a detailed & comprehensive survey to receive specific input SOLELY on the education and teacher experience. They do send out school-wide surveys on all general school aspects (not education/ teacher specific) and a VERY detailed survey that asks for feedback on coaches and sports programs- why not do this in detail for the MOST important aspect of the school THE CLASSROOM EXPERIENCE and TEACHERS?

They are so willing to help in any circumstance and never want to see you fail. They constantly encourage, and lead and from my own experience many of the teachers I had there were role models that I continue to keep in touch with and look up to today.

I have had terrible test anxiety all my life, and coming to Episcopal, the counselors and learning specialists helped me find a way to work through my frustrations and negative thoughts so that I could accurately portray what I knew on my tests.

This is the one flaw that I find in Episcopal. Not that I saw bullying occur often but there is always a sense of the stereotypical high school cliques. Not to worry you will find your people, but it may take time and it may come with some scrutiny revolving around issues like choosing not to drink in high school.

Overall, Episcopal became my home. It is a place where I know when I come back to it I will always be welcomed and brought in. Being in college now, I am so well prepared for my rigorous courses compared to others around me who didn't attend Episcopal or a school like that in their area. I am so much better for having been at ESJ for 6 years, and there is no way I would be the leader, friend, or encourager I am today without being apart of Episcopal's community. I wouldn't trade those 6 years for anything and as always; once you're an Eagle, you're always an Eagle.

My name is Erica Johns and my sons attend HMSHS but I wanted to make a review in regards to the behavior of the fans and students of this school that purchased from our concession stand. I can not say enough about how kind and well mannered every person from this school was!!! I have worked in the concession stand for many years and I have never noticed this many people act the way they all did, including the cheerleaders and even a few members of the J.V. football team. I am not sure if it is the Christian values, morals, or manners that are taught there but keep up the good work! If more people acted like those do, this world would be a better place :) Thank you and may God bless you all!!

I will start by saying that I am a hard sell when it comes to schools. My son is in his third year at ESJ and in the 10th grade. He was previously at a highly ranked public school in the community. Moving to Episcopal was very eye opening and confirmed our suspicions that he was being educated previously with the FCAT primarily in mind. Since coming to ESJ my son has not only received a comprehensive college prep education but he has blossomed as an individual. He is shy and has historically struggled to fit in at times but the faculty at ESJ are well equipped to deal with the difficulties teens face. His advisor is a central support person to my son and connects with him on a daily basis. My son also disliked sports and activities and somehow the staff managed to not only foster his transition into crew, but helped him to find a place amongst the many fine art offerings there. I cannot say enough good things about what this school has done for my son. His grades are good, not excellent, but I know that he is receiving an amazing well rounded education and he will be fully prepared for college and for life. This school has excellent diversity and it is beautiful to see.

Both my boys attended EHS but did not finish due to a relocation. We were very sad to leave EHS. It is an outstanding institution with caring teachers, nice kids (although they are normal teens; some insenitive and self-centered behavior, but nothing unsual). Most important it is a true family community. Even though both my kids had some mild learning issues, teachers had high expectations and tried to work with them to succeed. The academics are some of the best in the city and very rigorous by Florida standards. They are probably in the upper half of academics as compared to the most competitve US schools. There is a large emphasis on character, which permeates the curriculum. Kids must do community service and, as of this writing, the school dedicated something like 18% of operating budget to scholarships and financial aid. This was an important component in building compassion amoung the students.The teachers and adminstrators were very responsive to my concerns, even when they did not agree. The recent tragedy suffered by the school is very sad. Ms. Regan was an outstanding leader, but she had very strong leaders in place and the school should easily rebound. Great school.
