We have had a wonderful experience throughout the years at this school. It feels like a big family and the curriculum and learning environment are top notch.

My two children attended MJGDS VPK-8 and both are attending the advanced placement high schools they applied to and both are succeeding in larger school environments. My daughter played sports and although the school didn’t offer sports we were able to have her join the team of the local middle school, the staff at MJGDS were very accommodating and supportive. We particularly live the school counselor and the high school application support.

A Truly Exceptional Jewish Day School

Our family has been part of the Martin J. Gottlieb Day School family for nearly a decade. My son started in preschool at just three years old, and now, somehow, he is already in middle school! We have experienced so much together—from navigating COVID to discovering his unique learning differences and abilities, from supporting our family through the heartbreaking loss of his grandfather to navigating the challenges of middle school, including bullying. Through every season, MJGDS has been there for our family with compassion, expertise, and what I can only describe as a true white-glove approach to excellence.

What makes this school so special is that they see the whole child. Students receive individualized attention, hands-on learning, and teachers who genuinely know and care about them. The STEAM Lab and art program are absolutely out of this world, creating opportunities for students to explore, create, problem-solve, and discover talents they may not even know they have.

And a special shout-out to Ms. Nikki, the school-based counselor—five stars aren’t enough! Her compassion, accessibility, and dedication to the social and emotional well-being of the students have meant so much to our family.

The Mitzvah Program is another cornerstone of what makes MJGDS unique. It goes far beyond teaching Jewish values; it gives students meaningful opportunities to practice kindness, generosity, responsibility, and service. It truly helps shape the kind of caring, thoughtful human beings we all hope our children will become.

Academically, MJGDS prepares students exceptionally well for what comes next. Students can graduate 8th grade having earned high school credits, and graduates go on to attend outstanding high schools, including schools such as Wolfson, Stanton, Mandarin ACE, and Bolles.

But perhaps what I value most is that MJGDS has been there for our family through everything. They have celebrated our son’s strengths, helped us understand his challenges, supported him through difficult moments, and continued to push him to become the very best version of himself.

We are incredibly proud to be part of the MJGDS family. From preschool through middle school, this school has been so much more than a place of education—it has been a community, a support system, and an important part of our son’s journey. I cannot recommend MJGDS highly enough!

We are a Jewish family that was repatriating and looking for a new Jewish day school and synagogue. We were hopeful but found the experience to be disappointing and quite hurtful. We have twin boys that were entering 5th grade and they were behind on their Hebrew language skills. We were assured it would not cause an issue. Our most pressing concern relates to the reading of the Torah in class presentation, during which our sons were separated from their peers and seated apart from their classmates. Their Hebrew teacher said that their participation with the group was "not appropriate," yet this arrangement visibly singled them out in front of other families and set them up to be branded as “not worthy” by their peers to participate. This is completely unacceptable on every level. We had a couple of parents text us at work while this was happening in real time to tell us. They felt awful for the boys and felt it was done with poor judgment.
I want to emphasize that our children have historically formed strong friendships in diverse settings across the globe, maintaining weekly contact with those peers to this day. They have very good social skills and adapt well. Their Hebrew teacher mentioned in a conversation we had personally how most of the class has been together since first grade and that it must be hard for the boys. The honest, straightforward answer is no—that has never been an issue for our kids when it comes to fitting in or finding acceptance until now. I think that was a poor assumption on her part.
We are disappointed that the situation was handled through physical separation rather than through an inclusive approach that might have fostered peer mentoring and relationship-building. We are deeply concerned that this dynamic modeled exclusion rather than integration at the expense of our boys. Fully Jewish boys I might add..
I found assignment and grading communication to be very poor. There is not much diversified enrichment. At this time, we do not feel the school embodies the social, moral, academic, or religious example we were seeking. We did find Ms. Mary Wright to be the one outstanding teacher for there. However, one teacher can not carry the weight of the school. Attitudes are fostered from top down… many changes are in order.

We have four children enrolled at this school, each with different needs and learning styles, including one who requires additional support. With open communication and active involvement as parents, we’ve found that the school leadership has been receptive and willing to work with us to identify and provide what our child needs to thrive.

Like many schools, there have been moments where bullying behavior could have been addressed more quickly, but we’ve encouraged our child to speak up and to bring these concerns directly to teachers and leadership. Over time, this approach has helped things improve.

What stands out most to us is the school’s genuine commitment to social, emotional, and academic growth. They value the whole child, not just test scores, and that balance has been very meaningful for our family. The school also provides many opportunities for students to take on leadership roles starting as early as kindergarten and continuing through 8th grade, which we’ve seen build confidence and responsibility in our kids. In addition, there are regular field trips that enrich classroom learning, and a unique middle school program that sends students into the community to do good deeds—something that really sets this school apart.

Overall, we would absolutely recommend this school. With parental engagement and strong collaboration with teachers and administration, our experience has been positive, and our children are growing in both confidence and academics.

This place is failing. They favor the rich kids. Families leave once they realize the incompetence. Kindergarten may have a class or two kids but by 3-8th grades are at 8 or 9 students in each grade (or less).

If you value your child’s safety, do not attend this school. The head admin is a librarian who lies and the board consists of one elderly educator.

My two school aged children are enjoying MJGDS to it's fullest. They are engaged and active learners that are being nurtured in multiple aspects. They attend art, music and PE regularly. My daughter in second grade has become bi-lingual in Hebrew. She comes home and reads short stories to my other kids in Hebrew, it's so amazing! If she can learn Hebrew, I know she'll have no trouble with Spanish, French, or Chinese if she wants to learn those later. Both kids have an appreciation and understanding for Religion that makes me proud. Something to look forward too - In the Middle School - the students are creating their own video games with outside companies - learning not just technology but about how business works as well. My kids have access to iPads, 21st Century Learning Activities, Differentiated Learning Activities, Smart Boards, Services Opportunities in the Community, Field Trips, Wonderful Clergy, and an Intelligent, Technologically Savy, Nurturing Teaching Staff. The staff are friendly and available for parents to communicate, and the other families are welcoming. We feel at home at MJGDS & look forward to each year of growing and learning.
