We have a middle school child at SJCDS. He has enjoyed school and we have been pleased as parents. The teachers have been excellent and the administration has always been professional. The school has a very warm and close-knit environment.

If youre not an alumni family, a local news anchor, or someone with a last name that helps the schools reputation or funding dont bother. St. Johns Country Day School isnt about education. Its about image. And unless your family somehow benefits their brand, your child is just a tuition check with legs.

We came in hoping for academic excellence, strong values, and a safe environment. What we got was a masterclass in favoritism, performative leadership, and the kind of toxic culture youd expect in a bad teen movie. Bullying? Its alive and well. But dont expect the administration to do anything about it unless the bullys parents are nobodies. If they have a connection to News4Jax, an attorneys office, or sit on the board? Suddenly its kids being kids.

Diversity? Virtually nonexistent. Inclusion? Only if you blend in and stay silent. And the leadership? Completely detached. They know who butters their bread, and its not the average family trying to give their kid a solid education.

St. Johns loves to talk about honor and character, but what they actually model is elitism, deflection, and self-preservation. If youre looking for a school that values all students, supports families equally, and enforces basic standards of behavior keep looking.

We regret ever enrolling our children here.

Our family has been part of the St. Johns Country Day School community since our children were in Lower School, and we truly could not imagine a better place for them to grow, learn, and thrive.

The academic experience has been exceptionalchallenging, engaging, and thoughtfully designed. We've watched our children develop a genuine love of learning, guided by teachers who are not only knowledgeable but deeply caring and dedicated.

What sets this school apart even more is its strong sense of community. As a family, we've always felt included and encouraged to be involvedwhether through classroom events, volunteer opportunities, or simply being part of the day-to-day life of the school. That spirit of connection and collaboration is something truly special.

This school has helped shape our children into confident, compassionate, and capable young people. We are so grateful for the foundation it has provided, and we are proud to be Spartans!

We have 3 younger students enrolled and love this school! They do a great job with keeping students engaged but also work to get rid of problem students in the rare event it is needed.
I can't touch on bullying since our kids are younger.
The best thing is that they actually focus on academic education and not the "what kind of victim am I" or "what kind of gender should I pick nex"t mentality that public (and many private) schools focus on.

As a parent, I expected St. Johns Country Day School to uphold its mission of providing a supportive and nurturing environment for all students. Unfortunately, our experience has been deeply disappointing. My son, who has documented conditions of ADHD, generalized anxiety, and depression, was repeatedly bullied by other students. Despite numerous reports to the administration, the school failed to take effective action to address the bullying.

When my son finally reacted after enduring ongoing harassment, he was immediately expelled without a thorough investigation into the circumstances. The schools decision did not take into account his diagnosed conditions, nor did they provide the necessary support or accommodations required under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.

Its disheartening to see a school that claims to prioritize the well-being and development of its students fail so significantly in these areas. I would strongly advise other parents to carefully consider their options before enrolling their children here, especially if your child has any special needs or could be vulnerable to bullying. Our experience has been a painful reminder that not all institutions live up to their promises.

Both of our children attended SJCDS from PK - 12th grade; Im a former long-time faculty member. This review overwrites one I left in early June & is in regard to the June 30th review, which seems to be a rebuttal to my prior one. I suspect (Im not sure) that the reviewer is a current/former board member or spouse, as well as a former parent. Regardless, the reviewer was unable to address the lack of communication with & unprofessional treatment of at least faculty/staff currently a big problem at St. Johns. Previously, I couldnt recommend this school more highly. There are still many caring, qualified faculty/staff members there, but the board hired two inept, unprofessional people to upper administration. One of them is gone now, but top admin lacks in educational experience, professionalism, and empathy. Its unacceptable & inexcusable at an educational institution & has negatively changed the atmosphere of the school. Current faculty & staff provide a buffer for students while keeping their own heads down and doing the best they can. I dont need to brag about either of our childrens accomplishments. SJ helped us raise two kind, successful kids; both are now college students doing fine academically & more importantly with life in general. The faculty, staff, & previous administration absolutely guided students to success in many areas. Unfortunately, the new top administration has gutted faculty & staff morale. Recently at this school: The head decided to open up department chair spots to give other faculty opportunities great! However, it was unprofessional to make this announcement to the entire faculty without first advising the teachers who held those positions at the time (I wasnt among them). Another gem: The head eliminated my position without at least informing my department chair, until after the fact. She informed me between classes (not at days end) that my position was being cut for the next year. This isnt sour grapes; its about an unprofessional, uncaring way to relay important, sensitive information. I refused to sign a non-disparagement contract; I wanted to talk about the lack of professionalism & decency. Many longtime parents (at least those not associated with the board) & employees know: The old St. Johns is gone. Im thankful we were there for the good years! We are glad to be done with the school as it currently exists; I never dreamed Id say that, & it saddens me. Until/unless things change, look elsewhere!

My wife and I put 2 boys through St Johns, both were Lifers (K-12). Both had solid school experiences at all levels. Both played varsity level sports, participated in many clubs, competed in sport, academic and club events all over the SE United States. Both traveled internationally to several countries on school trips.

They experienced the ups and downs of maturing into young adults. The staff at the school were very patient, caring and nurturing. They had a saying that your child is known and loved - our experience is that this is true. We never had any problems with communication with the administration.

Every school has issues, change and sometimes teachers and administrators that don't sync well with your child. Over 15 years this was certainly true for us. We viewed these times as learning opportunities, preparing them for college, career and life.

The bottom line is that the oldest recently graduated with a Masters degree (in 5 years) on the deans list at a very difficult university. He earned over 100k in academic scholarships and played varsity level baseball for 4 years. The youngest is a senior studying aviation at a 4-year university and on track to graduate with a BS degree. He has multiple companies offering starting positions. This is directly related to the education, opportunity and personal development that St Johns provided. My wife and I highly recommend and endorse St. Johns Country Day School.

I used to love this school, but now it is obvious the people who run the school do not love it back. I am a student at St Johns and from what I must say is that there are a multitude of cons and maybe only a few prose. Cons - headmaster and people who run the school are not qualified and never will understand leadership, I would say diversity is less than 1% students are 99.9% white and due to this you see some uneducated students who use slurs that are not appropriate and never will be but when it is brought to the schools attention they dont do anything because the students who say these things are the golden students because they are high in athletics, lastly favoritism is absolutely apparent with the higher officials of the school, if you are not white or if you are not considered a D1 athlete do not go to school here. I have never seen a white athlete ever get in trouble here even if they got into a fight that they started. Total favoritism. Ive seen so many kids have targets on there back just because of their race, religion, or their differences. Pros - teachers seem to be the only thing that has leadership and they seem to not have favoritism besides a few. In general dont send your kid to school here. Bolles, Episcopal, Bishop Kenny, Bishop Snyder, are all great alternatives from what I hear. I have seen over 30 kids switch to these schools and they seem better than ever. St Johns will not be standing in the next 15 years.

The current state of St. Johns Country Day School can be summed up in one word . . . . . Depressing. I am a parent who has watched my 2 kids thrive at St. Johns . . . starting in Kindergarten while SJCDS was in it's heyday. It was a school that encouraged every kid to excel in academics, as well as participate in fine arts and athletics. Kids were taught to be leaders, graduating more mature, polite and enlightened than most 18-year-olds I've met. This was a direct reflection on the leadership at that time. The ultimate decline of our beloved school can be attributed to one event, the hiring of one woman, with ZERO academic experience or business sense, to help run a major college preparatory school. It is no coincidence that our school has been on a steady decline ever since that day. The school is broke, the enrollment is nearly half of what it was and teachers are leaving in droves. It even lost its football team. In spite of its current condition, our family will always have great memories of St. Johns Country Day during its hey-day. I am so saddened by its plummet off the private school cliff and I'm dumbfounded that our board of directors or new headmaster haven't fired the people responsible for dragging our school so far down. Our Board of Directors are equally to blame for this mess. But what would you expect from a Board consisting of parents of students? A LEGITIMATE Board of Directors consists of local businessmen and women that have no "skin in the game". Qualified people that can leave the emotion out of tough decisions & look at our school with a jaundice eye. But instead, our "Board-Parents" are making decisions based on what may or may not benefit their own kid.

Unfortunately, our new Headmaster was handed the wheel of a sinking ship and then told to get us home! Even with this impossible task, I believe it's still appropriate to question her leadership. If our new "Leader" can't identify & fire the people responsible for sinking the ship in the first place, how in the world will she ever be able to make the tough decisions needed to bring us back to prominence?

There are still some GREAT people at SJCDS. There are also some GREAT families ready to donate money and come back to SJCDS . . . . . as soon as we recognize the St. Johns of old.

I agree perspective is everything..So thank you for the lesson. From my "perspective" as a veteran teacher, standards have been lowered, enrollment is down nearly 150 students in and my colleagues are unhappy and leaving the school and along with the students.

Perspective is everything. The "garage sale" was to get rid of things that have been in storage since the mid-eighties or earlier. If the school was looking to "raise funds," why would they be doing a full renovation on the quad area? Perspective is everything.

Any reasonable adult should question the slew of reviews below that are all dated January 20. Clearly the work of administration's family and friends? Parents who are willing to look objectively at the school can see that St.Johns unfortunately ticks all of the boxes for a failing school: rapidly decreasing enrollment, high teacher turnover, shaky finances (public records show that the school has been operating in the red for years now), and low student achievement. I agree with the honest reviews below that this dire situation is just heartbreaking, especially because the Spartan community USED to be loving, strong, and exceptional. The sense of having a "home away from home" for the kids is gone and has been replaced by a business-like atmosphere due to the new administration being completely inept and aloof.

The saddest part is when parents enable the school to pretend to be something that it is not, rather than asking school leaders to recognize problems and seek feasible solutions. As the Bible reminds us, "If a blind man leads a blind man, both will fall into a pit." Right now St.Johns' short-sighted administration is leading misguided or clueless parents straight into an educational quagmire. The lax curriculum has created a false sense of academic achievement for students, and no one is doing anything about this because they are more concerned with dollar signs - when a school's administration is willing to celebrate mediocrity in efforts to entice parents to stay, this screams desperation and is such a disservice to students. St.Johns Board members, staff, and alumni send their own children to other schools; if this is not a giant red flag, I don't know what is.

As a former teacher, words can not express how I am to have moved on. 3 years ago a administrator with NO education background was selected to run the school. Since that time, the amount of stress and anxiety filled culture has demoralized many of the faculty and staff who remain. And before you throw darts at me, know that I have over 15 years of experience and have never seen anything like this, ever! While I dont know enough about Bolles or Epsicopal, those options seem to be the new home for many SJ students.

We have two sons, Class of 2019 and 2021 who have been at SJCDS since Kindergarten and Pre-K. They have developed into young men with confidence and a healthy sense of balance that I attribute to their time as a student at St. Johns Country Day School. Developing the maturity and leadership skills needed for success is just part of the normal experience for St. Johns students. In a family type of environment, the kids learn from an early age about personal time management, accountability, collaboration with peers on projects, speaking and performing in front of small and large groups of people, and not being afraid to try new things. The teachers are truly special at our school. Not only do they care, challenge and support their students, but they have instilled a love for learning from such an early age. I love that the students at SJCDS have the opportunity to learn in a variety of ways with interactive field trips, special guest speakers, and unique classes. As parents, we are incredibly thankful for the close relationships we and our boys have formed with the teachers, coaches, advisors faculty, and the other parents as they all have helped our boys grow and succeed.

My family has a long history at St. Johns Country Day School starting with our oldest in 1996. All four of our children graduated from this wonderful school, and one of our daughters is currently the Development DIrector. This school is truly a community of loving teachers, superior education and teaching our young people to be productive individuals in our community. Through leadership, academics and athletic involvement that St. Johns provided, they have all grown into successful adults and had them more than prepared for their college careers and beyond. My children both started at St.Johns when they were 4 years old. They had wonderful experiences at every stage of the educational journey. In lower school, they were well loved and gained all the knowledge and encouragement they needed. In middle school, they were pushed academically to excel, and with the encouragement of the teachers and staff they rose to the challenges and were well prepared for their high school years. In high school, they both participated in athletics and the arts while continuing to be successful in academics. The teachers and staff at St Johns truly know and love the students. We could not have asked for more from a school.

St. Johns has been an amazing fit for our family. All four of our children have attended St. Johns. We love the family type atmosphere the school fosters. The traditions and togetherness the school promotes between the lower school and the upper school creates memories that last a life time. Our kids have transitioned well into to college, we believe it is because St. Johns did its part as a college prep school. I contribute some of our kids success to the faculty and staff at St. Johns.

Our eldest daughter went here from Pre-k thru 12th grade and Graduated here and our youngest daughter has been there since kindergarten and we couldn't be more happy. Both of our daughters enjoyed the culture and felt like the faculty were their biggest cheerleaders . If you want a Great school , curriculum and faculty that will challenge, respect and take care of your children ,then this is definitely the school for you. Once a Spartan always a Spartan and everyone from the Board of Trustees to the Faculty and Families look out for each other . You are pushed to your limits in everyway here to be the best all around person you can be, in and out of the classroom. My daughter was definitely well prepared for college life and noticed a big difference in her study habits compared to others . Thank you to all the Faculty and staff you are all a blessing!

SJCDS is failing in so many ways. The tip of the iceberg -
1. Enrollment is plummeting. Disappointed parents, including alumni, are pulling their own children and running away. Huge red flag when families who have a long history with SJCDS transfer to other schools.
2. Low student achievement. Classes are "dumbed down" because anyone can now enroll at SJCDS. The school is sadly not what it used to be. Administration is desperate for tuition money and allows any family to join, creating a subpar academic experience.
3. High teacher turnover/demoralized staff. Parents are, again, left wondering why many teachers quit every year. What is so awful about working at SJCDS that staff are extremely quick to go? A person can only speculate, but another red flag when a school cannot retain its faculty. Our favorite teachers have all quit.
4. Ineffective and dismissive Administration routine ignores parent concerns. School "leaders" (let's please use this term very loosely) are quick to blame families for being hard to please, rather than try to solve the root of very real, deep-seeded problems. Issues such as bullying in Lower School are routinely swept under the rug.
5. Unstable finances. A quick search of of public filings made as a 501(c)(3) reveals SJCDS has been operating in the red for several years. Tuition keeps going up while quality of education, facilities, etc. keeps coming down.
6. "College prep" - this is true, but only if you want your child to attend a no-name university. We'd strongly advise prospective parents to ask SJCDS to see the list of colleges that Seniors from the past few years have attended. Extremely rare for a student to be admitted to a Top 20 school. Invest over $200K for an education, and then send my child to a Tier 3 or 4 school? No thanks SJCDS.
7. Families are nickle and dimed for everything. Be prepared to pay about an extra $1,000 on top of tuition, every year. SJCDS is the only private school our child has attended where you are expected to pay for literally everything - from pricier items such as brand new textbooks every year (apparently this school does not recycle either) to basic classroom necessities such as Kleenex and soap.
All in all, we regret the time and money our family has wasted. The school is failing its students. Administration should be ashamed. They do not prioritize student success or safety. Such a shame, SJCDS used to be a solid school that has now gone down the tubes.

I don't usually write reviews but I felt compelled to write this one. Our experience as new Lower School parents at St Johns has been nothing short of amazing. We looked at many private schools in the Jacksonville area and decided on St Johns even though this means we will commute 35 minutes each way. We could not be more pleased with our decision. Starting with the admissions process, we had the opportunity to meet with the entire Lower School learning team and discuss the learning complexities of my son and brainstorm how the school could support him. They took a very collaborative, problem solving approach in which both sides discussed if this would indeed be a good fit for our family. They were able to match him with an amazing teacher who has worked to build him up and focus on all he can do (math, science), while providing him with the support he needs on his areas of struggle (Reading, spelling). He gets additional reading support in a small group from two very strong learning specialists who are loving , caring and supportive. The overall school environment is very positive and caring. It has not taken long since his enrollment mid 3rd grade for us to see the difference: he is happier, more confident, eager to learn. The kids get plenty of time outside to burn their energy and get back to the classroom more focused. We have seen improvements on his reading, reading comprehension, and overall attitude towards school. The small community feel has helped my son socially as well - he has made a lot of friends, adores his teacher, and is eager to go to school each day.

Please note the school does not have over 600 students, it has less than 500. The administration is not keeping the school headed in the direction of success. I would agree with the person who reviewed the school in July 2019. The person calling the shots is not an educator.

St. Johns Country Day is an extraordinary school and there is no truer validation than as an alumni, to purposefully move close by when our children were born so that they could reap the benefits as I did. This school has been a positive change for our child. We experienced bullying issues in public school that administrators refused to help with. Here, one bullying issue and it was immediately handled professional with no reprocussions to our child. Very pleased with the academics. The kids actually learn rather than learn only what is on a standardized test. The kids are well prepared for college. It has given our child a place to thrive and grow.

Disappointed, I had such high hopes given the appearance of the campus and the cost of tuition but the public schools in Clay County give this school a run for its money and they are free with dedicated specialists and IEP's for students with learning differences. Why spend all this money on tuition when your child could be in an IB or Aice program?

A dedicated team was established last year to help support children with learning differences.....I have yet to see how they are benefitting my child. We will be attending a new school next year. If your student doesn't fit the mold this school isn't a great choice.

The school is extremely rigid, even in the lowers and preschool. Children are expected to act perfectly, to stand in line and sit still and quiet for long periods. If you have a wiggly little one this school will make your and your child's life very difficult. The teachers break the child's self-worth and esteem down by continually highlighting unapproved behavior such as talking out of turn or turning around in line as highly disruptive, while ignoring positive behaviors. They will and do play favorites so be very wary.

Lower school is devoid of actual leadership. Headmaster is only concerned in protecting himself and the school even at the cost of a small child's self esteem and sense of safety. At least in the lower school and preschool program, teachers are more concerned with having children that will sit quietly and still for long periods rather than teaching these small ones to adjust to a structured environment. They place all the responsibility on parents who are not in the classroom. Only a negative focused behavior structure. No positives like treasure box or a simple rewards system.

Very bad pre K experience with the teacher. Staff was only interested in protecting the school. Punishment driven, negative focused behavior structure. Very disorganized. Experienced that left our small child scarred. Don't take the risk on this poorly thought preschool. Save your money, your child will get a more fulfilling and positive early education in a public school.

Many of the teachers are worthy of huge praise at St. Johns. They love their job and it shows in their enthusiasm. These stellar teachers all go out of their way for students. Only a select few, who have been on the job too, long are a apathetic.

Don't be fooled by the other reviews from a community member. There is an insane amount of homework for students. This is probably warranted for the math classes where repetition and memorization creates solid math students. The rest of the classes... the jury is out.

First Im suspicious of the reviews from a community member - all submitted on the same day which appear to be littered with the St. Johns marketing jargon in quotes. I suspect these reviews are from the school admin looking for spin control. St. Johns is not the pinnacle of scholastic utopia for all students and for 18k a year, it only makes sense to closely examine the local alternatives. AP classes, as well as the IB and ACE programs, are offered in the local free - Clay County high schools. So, if your student is state-school bound for college why not save the money for higher ed? This is a question you will struggle with. Sadly, as every year passes the dress code at this private school becomes more and more relaxed. So for all you hoodie fans, if you do not appreciate a school uniform then please attend a public school. Another serious downside to St. Johns is that they reflexively hire only friends and family for leadership roles. Thus, due to its size, not only is the student body lacking diversity but so is the administration. Case in point, the new Headmaster graduated from St. Johns in 1987. He went from the football coach/finance guy to headmaster. Did the board of directors interview anyone else for the position? Time will tell if the new headmaster can grow into the role and start hiring people from outside the alumni/parent talent pool. Unfortunately, provincial ways tend to fester here and zero new people in decision making roles, equals zero big ideas. How can a student be expected to think as a global citizen when he/she will be taught in an environment that shelters them from the outside world? Is there an upside to all this? Sure, while there are cliques at St. Johns, strong moral character on this campus is a must. Classes are small, bullying is scant and few known drug related issues will attempt to influence your child. But still inclusivity takes a wild turn here too. It was odd to learn that if you did not enroll in Kindergarten, then you are not part of the inner sanctum called a Lifer. Lifers at St. Johns are the golden children who are awarded a special medal upon graduation. So your daughter or son is either one of them, or they are not - regardless of merit or GPA. The ultimate participation award Id say.

Teachers are always looking to go the extra mile for kids at St. Johns. They look for opportunities to help kids stretch and get better, and don't hesitate to make changes to better meet students' needs. e.g., if your kid is particularly advanced at math in 6th grade, they bump him up and put him in a 7th, 8th or 9th grade class-- whatever is needed! And it's no problem because those classes are just across the quad. Not like our former, public school where your kid just has to sit there and be bored.

They try to strike a balance, understanding that kids are participating in extracurricular activities and have a *life* outside of academics. There are also study hall periods 3x per week and students are encouraged to stay focused and get their work done then. Plus, the school library is open after school until 5:30 and kids can go get homework done then, too. Or if they have 30 minutes before a sports practice starts, they can hit the library, do homework, and get it done. They have a designated spot to work and be productive. It's great!

Character development is very important at St. Johns Country Day School. From the "interfaith assemblies" that focus on different character traits each month, to the honor code, to simply teachers that *pay attention* to each and every child, a strong emphasis on morals and ethics is everywhere. There is no slipping through the cracks, either academically or behaviorally.

St. Johns has been such a blessing to our family. Our kids were getting "lost" in our local public school-- a good school, but with the large and rising class sizes and constantly losing staff positions, there's no way they can keep up. And don't even get me started on old textbooks or outdated technology. We finally made the decision to move to St. Johns Country Day School, with a comprehensive arts program, PE nearly every day, a full sports program, and, best of all, teachers and staff who truly care about the success of each individual child. They say "your child will be known and loved" at St. Johns, and it's true.

Creative, innovative, and nurturing environment. St. Johns Country Day School is a perfect fit for my kids. They offer everything from academics to performing arts and sports. They have offered wonderful opportunities so far. I love that they have great school spirit and offer a warm environment. It makes me feel great and proud to have them there. I would highly recommend them.

St. Johns Country Day School is a small family environment with good culture for our children to learn. They have given the ability to be well-rounded, and not just focused on academics. They teach extra-curricular activities such as art and music, which are wonderful.

I have 2 children (high school) and 1 grandchild (kindergarten) enrolled at St. Johns Country Day School. We've been with the school for 12 years. So far, what I most like is their focus on individual students. They make an effort to maximize each student's skills to get the best out-of-high-school college positions. They have a very safe learning environment and have many opportunities for extra curricular and sports activities.

St. John's has given our kids a top class education in a warm and stable environment (pk-12 on same campus)! The new asian math style curriculum is fantastic using math in focus( a more engaging version of Singapore math). Also reading is taught as early as the 3's and 4's whereas other schools tend to focus only on letter recognition. For the upper school, the children have a chance to shine and participate in several varsity sports or other extracurricular programs unlike other similar private schools who unofficially recruit talent or take in boarders who bring in added competition. Families with multiple children love the single campus. Also talented junior highers can participate in varsity sports and arts with the best talent and teachers with St. John's on broadway every other year. As far as a place to live, clay county and fleming island in particular are super safe and family friendly. I would recommend entering before middle school though as it tends to fill up and wait lists are not uncommon. The new headmaster has experience from one of the top private schools in the country as well as military and Wall Street experience and the future of this school looks impressive!

I am a graduate of SJCDS & attended since 1st grade. I am grateful for the quality of the education I received there, but it was honestly nothing more than what a public school education *should* be but unfortunately isn't in Clay/Duval. The low student-teacher ratio is a huge advantage, but favoritism is rampant & is usually based on factors other than academic merit (family's affiliation with the school, how much they donate to fundraising campaigns, etc). Also, in response to the delusionally incredulous response from 01/31/2011, spending one week studying MLK does not magically erase the intolerance that is so pervasive on the SJCDS campus. I'm also not sure which system you're using to determine the "best rated public schools" in France, as educational disparity isn't really that prevalent there since the public schools are heavily regulated by the national government. I guess that superlative sounds fancy and impressive to an ignorant and/or ethnocentric audience though, so knock yourself out. :-D Regardless, I'm intimately familiar with public education in France, and SJCDS doesn't even compare.

LIARS! They told us that they had such good ties with every college they'd be able to practically walk us in the college. My sister can't get in the college she wants because of this school! They don't care what college you go to or what you want they only need that 100% graduation rate. I'm a student here and it's awful! The kids who have been here are now in the "bubble" they won't be taught skills for the real world because they're use to being babied. NONE of these white kids are use to different races because of the "bubble" so they the white kids arent use to any other races. Also if you aren't the smartest in your class you will not be the favorite.FAVORTIES ARE HUGE THERE! The teachers always pick a favorites and they are the most "promising kids". My teacher can't name me but she can name my friends GPA and favorite food because I'm not the favorite. Also the uniforms cost around $60 each and they are horrible quality. The buttons fall off the first week and they get so frayed. I won't get into the college I want with this school so unless you're white, christan/catholic, and super smart DONT GO HERE! I'm a student here and I'm in high hopes for Fleming nest year.

St Johns has many good qualities but is certainly not the perfect school. The teachers are very caring and generous with their time. They will make an extra effort in helping your child. Class size is great and the campus is beautiful with new facilities. The negatives lie mostly with the administration. They do not adhere to their own policies and are arbitrary with their disciplinary actions. Some students are given a wide berth while others are judge more harshly for similar or less severe offenses. The students are very cliquish and new students have a difficult time making friends in the middle and upper schools. Implementation of a uniform policy for the upper school was a real negative and their new food store was less than adequate.

I am not getting the 5/11/11 comments about fear, intolerance, and lack of diversity. Spending the entire MLK week studying MLK, with nearly every class working something MLK into it does not sound like a bastion of intolerance. Always concerned that we are getting appropriate academics for the money spent, we compare our child's coursework with our friends when we can and they are always amazed at how demanding the coursework is SJCDS. This includes a few public schools and one of France's best rated public schools. So SJCDS not only competes academically with its surrounding counties but with European schools as well. Is that "international" enough for you? I do think they need to add Chinese to their curriculum. Unfortunately, many today equate "tolerance" with allowing themselves to be subjected to every conceivable behavior. There is no sense in that in a learning environment. There will be time later to realize that there are people out there who behave badly and should be AVOIDED - not embraced. Those constantly exposed to it will no longer recognize it for what it is.

I am so grateful to have found St Johns! We live in Duval County and drive 20 miles 4 times a day to bring our children to this school. My "out of the box" children have thrived in the small, personal environment. They are encouraged in academics, the Arts and to participate in any sports they want to try. Through St Johns, my daughter has discovered a love of Latin and The Classics. She has gotten to compete in Latin tournaments all over the State and on the national level.
