As a parent, I spent a lot of time researching high schools, so I know how hard the decision can be. We chose Western, and so far it's been a really positive experience.

My daughter is starting her sophomore year, and I've watched her become more confident, take on challenging classes and get involved in activities she genuinely enjoys. There are so many different paths for students, whether they're focused on academics, athletics, the arts or something else entirely. It doesn't feel like there's just one type of student who fits in.

One thing that has really stood out to me is the AICE program. The classes are challenging, but we've also seen students receive the preparation they need for the exams. Having access to that kind of academic rigor in a public high school has been a huge plus for our family, and I appreciate that there are plenty of advanced course options as students begin thinking about college.

The teachers and staff we've interacted with have been supportive and encouraging, and I've enjoyed seeing the school recognize students for all kinds of accomplishments, not just athletic ones. There seems to be a genuine sense of pride throughout the campus.

We're still early in our high school journey, but based on our experience so far, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Western to other families who are exploring their options.

Western is a place for everyone. Its a big school in student enrollment, but a small school because the teachers and staff know their kids. The areas that stand out are the AICE Cambridge program, HOSA, Culinary, student groups, and athletics. Western is a safe school and does their best to accommodate parents that need support for their child. Western is a great place and you should have no hesitation sending your child there.

One teacher demonstrates an ineffective approach to teaching the material, explaining it superficially with the main focus only on assignments in the program without proper instruction. Grading primarily depends on tests and quizzes. Her behavior is often harsh, including raising her voice and creating a tense atmosphere in the classroom; many students are afraid to attend her class due to anxiety. Students also face restrictions in asking questions, with only a few allowed, which discourages learning. The classroom has strict and questionable rules, such as limiting basic needs like restroom breaks, and even discourages common polite expressions like saying bless you after someone sneezes because she finds them irritating. Additionally, students have reported these concerns to guidance, but no action has been taken despite multiple complaints. Overall, the school itself is generally fine, but students often have to figure things out on their own, and concerns about teachers do not seem to be properly addressed

This school is horrible. My daughter went here and she was miserable all four years. Teachers are rude, administrators are lazy, and the counselors dont like doing their job. The new principal Padura took away activities students can do and turn down all fun ideas students present. This school is more like a prison than a school.

I cannot speak for previous years, but currently, this school is up and coming. It is projected to grow, culture is getting better, cleaner, safer, and teachers are adapting to new technologies too.

Run as far and as fast as you can from this school.
Security is a joke. I can enter the school at any time day, night, weekends, etc. because the band props their outside doors open with rocks. They have red alerts (not drills) almost weekly. Guns, knives, fights, kids being jumped, cops leading kids out in handcuffs are pretty much daily occurrences.

The Principle is never there and when you try to bring something to his attention he is mean, rude, condescending and likes to talk over people. He is the biggest bully in the school. The school and many teachers also breed the bullying culture in that school because they don't care about their students. Their first reaction to everything is "you're not going to get me in trouble for that". The good teachers don't last long because of the administration. If your not in football, expect no support from administration. Band, color guard, cheerleaders are heckled and stuff thrown at them during games. The Band and Color Guard were put on temporary unsafe bleachers in the end zone where they had to dodge footballs, players and mud.

The ESE staff is wonderful, but it is no wonder they are worn out, stepping down and retiring. They are constantly having to fight with teachers who do not want to follow an IEP.

My daughter has gone from a happy person to miserable, depressed, high anxiety, not wanting to go to school and needing therapy since she started at this school. Doing a reassignment to get her out of there.

Both of my kids went (Class of 2020) and are going to Western (currently a Junior)and we are very happy with the school. Excellent academics, teachers and my children have been on track for all the academic goals they set with their advisor. (We had the option of another HS in Weston but chose Western High and we couldn't be happier.

Worst teachers Ive ever had. Had a teacher tell me they didnt care if their students pass, they get paid either way. My parent has tried to get in contact with the school when having computer problems and its almost impossible unless you go in person. Shes also emailed my guidance counselor with no response back and the same with the principal (has been MONTHS). This school does not care about its students and I would not recommend going here unless its your only option.

Do not bring your kids here. The school is ridiculously overcrowded and does not care about your child's well-being. The staff only care about their "good ratings".
My daughter is in her senior year at Western. She spent her first two years struggling to get along with any of the teachers as their methods of teaching did not accompany her learning style. My son also goes to this year but spent a year doing online school after his first year at Western because he struggled so much with the school's teaching and cruel environment.

my daughter has an IEP , as long as your student knows how to navigate the system they will do ok. the school system stops "holding their hand
" in 6th grade so they really have to learn how to be their own advocates. part of learning independence

overall it's a good school , my daughter is the third generation to go to school there and were all successful. I don't hear about sexual harassment or much bullying , violence, the security is pretty tight and it's in a good/safe neighborhood. are there drugs? i'm sure every school has some issues . Teach your kids and you won't have a problem with drugs. There are far worse high schools in broward county so i feel lucky that she is there.

Excellent! We couldn't be more happier. This coming year (2018-2019) both of my daughters (1 senior and 1 junior) will attend to Western. The oldest one had amazing teachers!

We are very happy at Western. We lived in Weston for 14 years and I was DONE with those schools. DONE. We moved to this specific school district and both kids are much happier as I am. As an example, at their old schools, I dreaded any kind of school function due to the rude and obnoxious parents and the self-serving staff. We went to the Christmas performance at Western and I was amazed. Well-organized, parents waited in a uniform line and were courteous to each other. Food available for purchase. Stadium seating so everyone could see and no obnoxious parents holding up iPads in front of you to tape their precious while blocking everyone else's view.

Academically, this school has an amazing STEM program and robotics program. They built a car that they drive around the neighborhood!! The opportunities my son has already had to perform at Disney and other events, has just been amazing. They offer onsite dual enrollment (meaning he doesn't have to drive to the Nova University campus to take college courses). Every time I've been to the office, the staff is courteous and efficient. I AM glad they have updated the security now after the MSD shooting. I'm glad I have to check in now at the gate. We've been here a year and a half now and both kids are much happier and they're doing much better. I don't dread the school functions anymore either which is an added bonus!

We live in Weston and are VERY happy with the school. My daughter has amazing teachers and is taking AP and advanced classes. The atmosphere at the school is positive and very relaxed. We only have great things to say about this High School.

We live in Weston and I have to be honest, I had my hesitation based on some people's comments but now that my daughter is finishing her 2nd year at Western I can say without a doubt that all those whom commented bad things about Wester are SO WRONG! We can't be happier! #GoWildcats

We arrived from out of state, Texas. My daughter started as a sophmore and has FLOURISHED in the environment, guidance and instruction provided by the EXCELLENT instructors and staff at Western; both academically and athletically. I'm sooo happy we chose Western High School and commend and thank EVERYONE at this school, from the children to the staff.

This is definitely an above average high school. Is it perfect? No. But if you want your child to have an opportunity to get a quality education and also have a variety of options and exposed to a wide slice of society, then this is a great school. Is every teacher perfect? No. But there are enough great teachers here to prepare your child for the best of colleges.

Honestly, I have mixed feelings I came with a group so I have no social problems and yes some of the teachers are rude and don't care but some of them are really amazing. Now what really concerns me as an African American student is that this school is full of rednecks, and racism. Also, I have a lot of friend sin the LGBT community (which also includes me) and the principle is not excepting of them or anyone who is part of that community in other words he is a homophobe. He is absolutely horrible. This school would be better if it was more funded and we got a better principle.

The student body of the school will be the next generation of scammers and schemers. I am appalled by the bullying and the blatant disregard for student welfare at this school. It was a the best day of high school when I withdrew my student and was able to enroll in a different school. Never in my life have I dealt with such mean, hateful children and worse, adults who had no desire to properly supervise them. Despite being in a new school with a lower FCAT (that joke of a standards test) rating, my child is excelling the way things were prior to entering Western. All I can say is THANK GOD FOR SCHOOL BOUNDARIES! If you have a child that struggles (even slightly as mine did) with the social aspects of high school, this is a bad place for them to be. There are a few administrators and teachers who are top notch but the student body and the trash that raised them make it a waste of time.

Parents beware do not send your child to this high school you will be very disappointed and your child will be abused by the staff. Principal Jimmy Arrojo is a 20 year Broward County School Board robot only interested in keeping his job and covering up for his unmotivated staff. The level of education your child will get could be compared to an intercity hood. The office staff is rude and uninterested in helping even with the most simple of tasks. Consider Private school or gaining a transfer to a different high school

If you know that your child will be able to handle Advanced Placement coursework off the bat, then Western may be what you're looking for. Otherwise, don't bother. The school is underfunded, undersupplied and understaffed, and its instructors below the AP level are a mixed bag at best. Administration is unorganized, unmotivated and incompetent, as virtually any faculty member would argue, and the guidance staff exists only to (sluggishly and reluctantly) process paperwork. Again, only commit to Western if you're certain that your child will excel with a schedule comprised mostly of APs. The school hosts a cadre of adequate (and in some cases, excellent) AP teachers, and the classes themselves are taught independently of Florida standards. That means in turn that the classes are rigorous and if a student were to flunk out of a class he or she wasn't ready for, it would mean having to experience the horrors of honors, regular or remedial-level courses taught by people who'd fail if forced to take their own tests. So if you think your kid can stick it out on his or her own, go with Western. But if he or she can't and you still want him or her to succeed, find a private school.

I'm going to be completely real and straight up about this school. If you're a student who talks too much, gets to know many people, or are very social. Do not come here. This school has a lot of problems when it comes to being social. There are many fights, but if you don't mess with people and go to school to do your work, get your grades, and leave then you won't have any problems. I'd have to say that at least 70% of the students here are involved in drugs, honestly. Besides that there are a handful of good, nice teachers, yet the majority of the teachers are rude and out of place mostly nagging about their paychecks and assigning a lot of homework. Most teachers do NOT teach, so if you're like me and actually want to go to college you're going to have to do a lot of self-teaching. Also, bullying, drugs, violence, etc. are all very common in this school. Rude teachers are also extremely common. Just try to stay out of problems and watch with who you talk to at the school and you'll be fine. Also, I'm a junior here. So, honestly consider everything I've said when making your choice of schools. Also, I am an all A student and all honors/AP classes.
