This is my second year with 2 students at this school. It’s just okay. Very bare bones on academics and activities, plus a lot of kids that are under grade level that hold the rest of the kids back in the classroom. I do think they are doing their best, but it’s just not a great school if you have a high academic achiever or would like a decent chance for your child to really excel. I also do not find the administration to be friendly or helpful; the few times I’ve had to interact with the VP and Principal have been overall negative experiences. We will be switching to a charter school in the area and I do not recommend this school if you have another option available.

I have two children in this school and I couldn’t be happier. My son has autism and it took several years (since he was 3) to find the right school. He has thrived at Silver Lakes. Remember, no school is perfect. Have issues arisen in the past four years, of course. But I’ve always been able to work with the school to resolve them.
My daughter is neuro typical. She has also thrived at Silver Lakes. She heading to fourth grade and has only had excellent teachers at this school. Her second and third grade teachers, Ms. Leaver and Ms. Cahausqui should be cloned. You don’t have to trust my opinion, the proof is in the pudding. On the FSA reading our 3rd graders had more Level 5s and more passing students than any other public elementary school in the south area. That’s out of 13 elementary schools.
Also, parental involvement is most welcome.

The school is friendly and comfortable . The teachers are really good they teach the kids with different kinds of strategy to learn. All the people who works in the office are nice.

This school is not competing at all with the academic level offered by the surrounding charter or public schools.
Its rating downgrade proves it.
Luckily for concerned parents and those who value their children's education, many better options are available in the Pembroke Pines and Miramar area.

This school has learned their student as if they were their own, they have lots of activities for all the children, the aftercare program is excellent with various of time slots dedicated to learning and doing!
another plus is all the attention and love the our children with special needs.

This is a great school and the teachers are exceptional. My son got an early start in their ESE program and I am proud to say that he is now in the gifted program. If that is not short of miracle work, I don't know what is. In my experience, most people that post negative comments about this school, is because of their own lack of involvement in their kid's education. Sending your kid to school and expecting the teachers to do all the work for you is the wrong attitude. Take the time you waste posting negative comments and spend it with your kid helping them with their homework or going over a test they did not do well in, so you can see where they need help.

Bad supervision at dismissal; unavailable principal; obese PE coach; unstructured homework assignments in upper grades; chaotic parking and often no police officer to deal with double and triple car loops; weak science an social studies curriculum; extremely poor aftercare program (young students or graduates doing a mere babysitting job). Things went downhill over the past year; SLE used to be a good, trusted school. Very sad.

I have two kids at Silver Lakes Elementary. The administration and teachers have been wonderful thus far. Both of my kids are in the dual language program and are doing great. The principal and assistant principal are hands on and very involved with every aspect of the school. The PTSA is also great in organizing family activities throughout the year. We have many options in our area including charter but I wouldn't want my kids at any other school. Proud to be a Flamingo!

The teachers are dedicated professionals. Many spend their own personal time at night and on the weekend, planning lessons and grading assignments. They are so involved.

Silver Lakes Elementary is a wonderful school. The teachers, support staff, and administrators are very knowledgeable, attentive, caring, and professional. My child has always adored his teachers. He has always looked forward to school. From "meet and greet", until the end of year awards assembly, Silver Lakes Elementary always puts the child first. The dual language program and after school enrichment academy are awesome programs. I feel so fortunate to be part of the Silver Lakes family. Parents, before you jump on the band wagon and sign your child up for a charter school, please do your research. All Silver Lakes Elementary's teachers and support staff are highly qualified to educate children. However, not all of the charter school staff is qualified. Charter school teachers often apply for teaching positions at Silver Lakes Elementary, but Silver Lakes and other Broward County public school teachers do not apply for charter school positions. Charter schools are a problem. They are not a solution. They take funds away from wonderful schools because they make empty promises to parents, such as "no homework". The truth is, only high achieving students at a charter school may not get h.w., but not every child is high achieving. Most children benefit from completing daily h.w. assignments. Please tour Silver Lakes Elementary's campus. The school is highly equipped with a computer lab, plus all fourth and fifth grades have laptops. The cafeteria, hallways, and playground are very well maintained. The classrooms are spacious. Teachers are easily able to facilitate small group instruction and centers, thanks to the large size of the classrooms. Many charter schools have classrooms that are a quarter of the size of Silver Lakes' classrooms. Silver Lakes Elementary is an absolutely wonderful school. Please take a tour and do your research. I'm sure you'll agree.

As a parent of an ESE student, I always dread the beginning of the new school year. Transitioning is very difficult. This school is so on top of their game that we have not had a single call, not a single incident where I had to go pick up my son from school. There have been difficulties, let's be honest. But he was handled with such care and compassion by the autism coach (yes! that's a real thing) that those incidents were quickly de-escalated and he was able to return to class. He loves going to school and is progressing wonderfully. And since he is not missing as much class instruction, his academic performance is solid! I love what this school has done for our family. We are so blessed to be here. Thank you Silver Lakes!

We knew when we started this year that our son's current teacher is a temporary maternity assignment. It will be challenging when she leaves, but the school told us from the beginning what was going to happen, when and described the way they plan to transition the returning teacher back into the classroom. The two teachers will co-teach for a little while so that the transition is not so stark for the kids. We already started talking to our son about his new teacher and getting him curious about meeting her. That kind of consideration and transparency is free and yet so valuable!

I am a parent of a high achieving student who attended Silver Lakes for all six years from Kindergarten through fifth grade. He was challenged academically, and received a lot of recognition for his efforts. His teachers were caring and communicative. He also had opportunities to participate in programs like Teachers of Tomorrow and Flamingo Friends which helped get him out of his shell, and improve his social interactions.

They have programs like Flamingo Friends where children get paired up with special needs students and classes and become their friends. This helped my child develop empathy towards others. Book Buddies partners upper grade classes with lower level classes. Students in the upper class read to and with their buddies. Teachers are sensitive to partner a struggling reader in the upper grade with a child at a lower reading ability level, so that student can experience success and improve their attitude towards reading, as well as their overal self-esteem.

This school has high expectations of the parents and students. I love the fact that parent participation is expected and homework is part of the curriculum.

I wouldn't rate this school the worse but i wouldn't rate it the best. I'm torn with my feelings. I think the academic part could be better, I have mixed feelings on the staff and the level of care and attention to details. I've had to go to the school to many times regarding my son and bullying. I feel like I have to give him extra work because its not challenging enough. I really like his 3rd grade teacher but I think she is restricted by the higher powers on what she is allowed to teach and how she can react to students and their behavior. all and all its ok. Just get involved.

This is an excellent school. The staff is very caring. The parents are highly involved. My sons' teachers have all been very competent. I'm very glad to have such a good school close to home.

My son was a student since Kindergarten to 2nd grade. The education focuses in the lowest grade students; therefore they do not care about the kids in the average and above average level. For example, the 2nd grade math level was a review of the first grade math course and multiplication and division were not part of the 2nd grade curriculum. My son came back at the end of the school year with all his books with less than 50% completed and his teacher never assigned any single homework during the year (2012-2013). The principal never replies e-mails, letters, phone calls or any request for meetings or questions. I will never recommend this school to any kid in the average or above average level.
