My son been attending this school for 3 years now and he loves it. He had learn so much and has been getting good grades. He loves this school, the staff, the teachers and his classmate from every year. The teachers are very communicative and the Director Mrs. Nolder is also very communicative and fast responding to any emails with concerns and if there is any issues they take care of it immediately. I have no complaints about this school. I love it and I personally recommended to any parent. I love the fact they respect our religious believes and do not push kids to participate in things we dont allow our kids to be part of. I also love the fact this school is not pushing the new agenda that other schools are literally pushing onto our children. I feel very at peace knowing my son is in very good hands. this school provides everything in a below average way, they force the smart kids into AP classes to inflate their statistics even if they don't want to, they can force underperforming children into programs that will ridicule them, they have fired the majority of the good teachers and hired a bunch of blank slates, they have cancelled plenty of clubs that many students enjoyed and replaced them with only boring academic clubs, the only accommodations they offer are to leave class 5 minutes early to get to your class early to not deal with hallway traffic, they don't include 504's IEP's for testing accommodations, fights are starting to break out every month, and the collage programs don't exist

I read the two previous reviews which sounds very much like the same person waxing political. The school is not political. My grand children have thrived at Odyssey and the school implements many Covid strategies to keep students and staff safe. It is the most creative and innovative school in the area and offers a very nice education from Preschool-12th grades. It is COGNIA Accredited and was the only 'A' in Palm Bay this past year among its traditional schools. Odyssey works very hard to meet the needs of its families and I appreciate their hard work.

I would give 0 stars if that was an option. This school claims to be a STEAM school but threw COVID precautions out the window to keep the peace with science deniers who have money. They do not care about the health and safety of the children or staff. The administration put pressure on the teachers to keep e-learners grades low and to make e-learning more difficult for the students to cause parents to panic and force the kids back to B&M.

Speaking outside of COVID issues, the education is subpar and if you have a special needs child this is absolutely not the school for you. My child went through several year "below grade level" in reading with multiple requests to find out why, to see if there was some kind of learning disability at play. No help from the school except to put my child in remediation over and over and over again. It never worked. My child kept falling farther behind. I withdrew my child and started at another school and had a thorough evaluation, my child is dyslexic! This school never did anything to find out why he was struggling with reading. At the new school my child is thriving and is now assessed above grade level in reading because they evaluated and implemented a process that works and my child can now succeed where Odyssey failed.

This school is horrible for the children. The protocols for COVID safety are ridiculous. They do not care about the health and safety of the children at this school. I am so disapointed because I have been hearing through the grapevine, people talking, about teachers having COVID and not caring to keep the kids safe. Something has to be done. I am thinking about calling the board of directors and personally reporting the poor procedures.

There are great programs at the lower and upper campus and great teachers. I think the school day is too long though. Most public schools have shorter days and I think it's taxing to have such a long day.

The most impressive thing I've experienced at Odyssey is the fact that they always put the student first, always doing what is best for the students. This is one of the things that makes this school so special! As a parent, I know my children are safe, loved, and never ignored or pushed aside.
The academics are challenging and there is always extra help available from the teachers, who are very encouraging.
The school has amazing programs like band and orchestra, STEAM, engineering, organic farming, and taekwondo. They have an excellent cafe with all natural, healthy lunches that you will not find at any other school!
The administrators have a zero tolerance policy to bullying and work hard to teach all students about kindness, integrity, healthy lifestyles, balance, empathy, and strong work ethics. We love Odyssey Jr/Sr High!

My children have been attended OCS for many years. They are happy and doing well in school. Sure there are bumps in the road but that would be the same anywhere. The teacher communication has always been great. Looking forward to the next few years.

Students with disabilities are severely discriminated against. They hire some of the worst educators and those that are good they cannot keep on staff their communications stinks and administration is so busy micromanaging everything that the teachers cant teach. My daughters both attend, or have attended this charter. My oldest now goes to the prep school. Both Odyssey schools are incredible. The teach STEM, Lego robotics, farming with organic program etc. Would not change the school they attend nor would they leave.

I have been a student at Odyssey, a teacher at Odyssey and now work behind the scenes in operations for Odyssey Charter School. I can say with utmost honesty that the school is highly functioning at every level. A-Rated education for children. Teachers that are driven by the mission and laser focused on educating the whole child. A support staff that is hard-working and dedicated to seamless operation. Odyssey clearly sets itself apart from the other surrounding public and charter schools by providing an environment extremely conducive to student achievement.

The building was well planned and is beautifully maintained. The food is healthy and delicious. Class sizes are very large and can legally operate with 36 students per room. Teacher turnover is problematic in creating a sense of community for the children, often changing mid-year.

My daughter had a wonderful time while enrolled in this school. She was very happy to learn, and the teachers and staff paid as much attention to her emotional and physical well-being in addition to her education. My daughter was SO excited to go to school in the morning and would come home excited to share the knowledge she acquired at home with us every night. One of the best schools that I have come across in a long time, and everyone was attentive and receptive to the needs and educational goals of our family.

Odyssey Charter seems to constantly be assessing themselves to continue with what works for the students and fix what doesn't ! As a result students are being well educated regardless if class size! Students are encouraged to learn constantly and are used to assist others in learning! It often seems like teachers have prepared numerous lesson plans for the numerous learning abilities! And joyously, all the plans fall in line with the others and all the students feel good about their individual accomplishments and are able to demonstrate the learning through testing !

We recently had to move to Orange county during the last month of this school year and I miss Odyssey so much! My kids are way ahead of everyone in their class at their new school. Their teachers were amazed that they came in knowing everything required for their grade level and some. At Odyssey kids were pushed onto the next material when they got it. It really shows now that I can compare it. Their new school rewards their students with sweets daily to get them to push themselves. I know for some kids that really works but I really miss how Odyssey focused on teaching students how to make healthy choices and eliminating all the junk food that other public schools have. I am working hard to find them a local charter school or magnet program. I didn't realize how good my kids had it at Odyssey until we left...the grass is NOT always greener as they say

Simply the worst school I have ever encountered. Inept administration and teachers. All they care about is money. They constantly have their hands cupped for a donation in any form. With over 30 students per class, I don't know how the children learn.

This is a wonderful school! I have 2 boys,1st and KG. This school has 2 certified teachers per class. This puts the class size about 30 kids per class. I was worried my boys would have too much noise a movement to focus in class. They had an adjustment period at first. Lets face it, boys have a ton of energy and are easily distracted. Half a year into the school year, my KG student is doing work that my 1st grader did last year towards the end of the year. Both my boys sit at the counter and do their homework while I cook dinner, TV on in the background and their 2 yr old sister running around playing. Their level of focus and concentration is amazing. I know this has everything to do with how they teach at Odyssey. Their healthy (fresh salad bar, organic/healthy menu) has also changed their eating habits at home. I get tons of communication from the school regularly, (flyers, phone calls, emails). Overall nothing but positive things!

Hi, my name is Pam and I taught 1st and 2nd grade in a Montessori environment last year at Odyssey. The school has been paying for my Montessori training for the past 3 years and I completed a 2 week summer residency last month. Administration has been very supportive to me and my path to becoming a Montessorian. I'm not sure who posted this, but it's just not accurate. I'm excited to use everything I learned this summer when I teach 1st grade this year.

Odyssey is a wonderful school with teachers that really care. There was very open communication between myself and my child's teachers and I felt like they were open to discuss any concerns I had. I love the healthy cafe and my child loved learning all about nutrition and working in the class gardens. He was able to have a hands on experience planting, growing and harvesting. My child has a learning disability and I feel that he excelled academically at Odyssey. There were always parent volunteer opportunities for parents inside as well as outside of the classroom. I also think that many of the recent negative reviews on this site are from the same disgruntled parent who did not get their way and is taking it out on Odyssey. If she put as much effort into doing something positive rather than thriving on the negativity, she could accomplish much more! I love Odyssey and my children will all be attending without a doubt! I get the feeling many of these one star reviews may be the same crusading parent, considering the general consensus amongst parents I've spoken to is very positive towards Odyssey. This school is a beacon in a struggling community. They serve healthy lunches, it's naturally daylit, and they play Mozart in the halls. There are gardens throughout the campus, attended to lovingly by the children. K-3 are supplied with Montessori, hands-on education, which is an essential learning environment to allow children to learn how to learn. I couldn't be more pleased with the results I've gotten sending my children there for the past 4 years. I highly recommend Odyssey.

I don't think much of Odyssey anymore with the changes in administration, staff and the principal nothing is as it was before. They hire people with no teaching credentials and they tend to have a lot of who is the "favorite" going on in the school and that includes teachers as well as students. Meetings don't seem to matter because they never do what they say when you leave. I will NOT be letting my children return unless they use what they write in the school hand book and hire the proper people with teaching ability and the credentials to go with it. The front desk staff is so rude. Parents who say they like the school changes and the staff have no idea what other children go through.

Our children have attended OCS since 2005 and will continue for many more. I am a law enforcement officer in Brevard County and visit many schools in the county. This is by far one of the best. If you are looking for a school that will meet your child's needs no matter where they are - this is the school.

My grandchildren attend Odyssey and they love all of their teachers and school friends. The school provides a challenging academic program and did outperform all of the neighboring Palm Bay elementary and middle schools this past year. The teachers are very helpful and everyone is very committed to give their best. The school is unique, has great fresh food and a beautiful green school campus. It is truly a blessing to the community. We love the school.

My child has been attending OCS Upper campus since they began. We have not had any issues. Overall it is a great school. Even though they switch principals every year, The Admin team seems to be handling everything really well. THe front desk clerk may be a little overwhelmed but is an overall nice lady. Everyone is very personable. My child will be there as long as the school is open. My only issue is with the Cafe at the upper campus

Odyssey Charter School is a learning institution unlike others in the surrounding area. While academics and the acquisition of knowledge are clearly a priority (as evidenced by standardized test scores), the other major objective of this school is to teach children the value of everyday real-life choices--such as ingesting healthy foods and respecting one's environment. Odyssey successfully incorporates lessons that strictly apply to success within a classroom environment and lessons that last well into adulthood.

Odyssey middle school offers a forensic science class and courses that help students earn college credits. They are an A+ school with one of the only A+ grades in southern Brevard. They are a green school and healthy lunch school. The Montessori style of learning allows the students to learn at their own speed. They have a great reputation in the community. If you ever have a problem with how you are treated by any of the staff members you should get in contact with the founder of the school. it does seem like she is actually the one in charge and doesn't take her school receiving a bad name very lightly. The Odyssey name will have 5 school under their belt at the start of the 2014 school year. I don't think a low performing school with some of the problems being presented in this thread are honest. Check out their scores and what they have to offer. Scores don't lie--especially in this time when very few Brevard Schools did well on their FCat scores; yet Odyssey Charter blew them out of the water. Don't let a few bad reviews sway your child's chance to get into a great school and a great program!

Volunteering this year has been an eye opening experience. There are too many cooks in the administrative kitchen. We are not sure who the boss is. There is an admin. team but they are not all on the same page. Misinformation is constantly sent out. The amazing teachers are treated so poorly and blamed for everything by the abusive administration. I've learned to bring kleenex when I volunteer as the teachers are often on the verge of tears. I will be pulling my children out and am advising my friends to do the same.

I have never had an issue with Odyssey Charter. My oldest went there for 8 years. I have a 4th and 6th Grader enrolled, both of whom started in 1st grade with Odyssey. There have been many changes over the years and I have to say that, on the whole, there has been constant improvement that has more than kept pace wth the school's growth. I would recommend Odyssey to anyone looking for a low cost alternative to the local public schools. They identified a speech issue with my youngest and got her enrolled in speech therapy. The teacher's are always available and there is a great push for perental involvement. I've never enjoyed waiting in a pickup/dropoff loop, but I don't see how this can be avoided. I intend to have my kids graduate from Odyssey.

We enrolled two children for 2013-14 year. One had an IEP with a Behavioral Plan. They neglected to tell us the principal and all the sixth grade teachers were going to be replaced with new ones for this year. That being said, the ball was dropped hard with respect to my son's needs. I don't recommend this school if your child has an IEP and needs special accommodations due to behavior. Very unhappy. The sixth grade teachers were unwilling to compromise and help our son. Also did not like their discipline policies. On the up side, our daughter did well, the new principal is wonderful and the cafe is great.

I do wonder if some of these low scores are being placed by the same person. I get that some people have personal problems or issues, but overall this is a very good school. I have volunteered in the prek, and never have I seen any problems with singling children out, writing them up for every little thing, or treating them like robots. It is not typical prek set up, because it is a Montessori set up, but that gives them hands on learning in small groups, and individual practice, at their own level. As for the comments about the bus, I haven't noticed a lot of problems while my children were riding, except usual stuff. If you believe moving your child to another school will produce a better bus system I think you are sadly mistaken. I rode on the public bus for another local school, as an aid for some autistic students, and that was a horrible experience for the autistic children and the typical children. The bus system at Odyssey is ran much better.

I am proud to have two kids attending this school, one at each campus. Cannot wait until our youngest starts next year. The staff is great. I moved them from another local school and the curriculum is miles ahead. My kids are not bored but challenged. If there is a problem the staff works hard to resolve it. I'm proud of their healthy initiative and the way that they promote reuse/recycle. I'm also in love with them wearing a uniform. It allows them to focus on work instead of trends. Can't say anything negative about this school. We were on the waiting list to get our eldest daughter in for 1st grade & we are so glad we did! She has had caring teachers and such a fantastic environment. They are a "Green" school and while I am no tree hugger, it is nice to know that they are running the school to make a smaller carbon footprint while teaching the kids to do the same. Classes have their own gardens. The Healthy Caf uses local fruits and veges, sometimes from the gardens too, has a salad bar daily and only healthy choices unlike some other public schools. They don't allow sugary desserts or candies which is great plus they help the children understand why that's important. They offer after school activities like soccer club, hip hop (both of which my daughter loved and were very inexpensive) guitar, crochet, and a Glee club that puts on 2 performances a year etc etc. I know they have a basketball team as well and I am sure some other sports too. My littlest one is in Village Montessori, (the preschool inside of Odyssey) - their curriculum has helped my daughter learn to work independently and start to love learning. LOVE this school

My child has had another successful year at Odyssey. Fourth grade was tough, but her teachers were wonderful. They encouraged her creativity yet kept her on track with her work. Today I enjoyed an Award Ceremony the teachers put together for the class. Every student was awarded for their hard work, the superlatives were very creative and we had so much fun! Thank you, thank you, thank you to two amazing teachers!! :)

Being a parent of a kindergarten student who attends Odyssey is a great experience not just for my daughter, but for me as a parent as well.. It was even a wonderful experience when she attended VPK there. The communication of the teachers with parents is awesome. You even establish a bond with your child's teachers as well as their classmates. I know this cause I am a parent volunteer for the school. Not only for the classroom, but I also help out in the office, book fairs, events and field trips. The feeling you get by being a part of your childs learning is a great feeling. Odyssey has made learning not only educational but inspiring to the young minds. I am very pleased with the learning and teaching that my daughter gets from Odyssey. I am looking forward to her return as a 1st grader for the 2013-2014 school year. And my return as a volunteer. My overall experience with Odyssey is one I will not forget. I love the relationship you as a parent and/or student can have with the teachers as well as any of the staff. I hope you get to experience what my daughter and I have with Odyssey.

We have had a very successful Kindergarten and fourth grade this year, Highlights being - a very fun learning experience with the hundred days of school for Kindergarten and an allround positive and fun learning experience. Great teachers :) Fourth grades highlights has to be learning about the Holocaust, it is done in such an age appropriate way my children loved it. Also the great books read together by the class and reading skills taught this year. A great teacher team:) All in all we had a very good year my children enjoyed these grades and had a very positive learning experience.

I would not recommend this school. The teachers are rude to the students & when you advise the prinicipal of the issue she backs up her teachers & make you child look like lier. I have never seen a school that suspends kids for ridiculous reasons until now. My child has never gotten suspended until she has attended this school. They claim to be a healthy school but the food is so bad that your child is starving then they come home so you might want to pack your own lunch. The teacher show a lot of favoritism towards other students which is not right. They claim that they are trying to protect your child but when your child needs protecting they don't do it. When having a teachers conference they said that your child is great & doing fine when in reality they don't remember your child or how they are doing academically. You will know the truth of how your child is doing when they get a progress report & its totally the opposite of what they told you at the conference.
