Ive always believed that a good school should support both academic growth and emotional well-being. Unfortunately, our experience at Renaissance fell short of that standard. Despite my attempts to communicate and resolve concerns, I didnt feel that my son was truly understood or supported in the way every child deserves. After much thought, I decided to withdraw him from the school. I sincerely hope the administration takes parent feedback seriously and works to create a more responsive and nurturing environment for all students moving forward.

I would like to express my heartfelt appreciation for Mrs. Cuba and Mrs. Mouta, my daughter Amelias third-grade teachers. They are truly dedicated educators who go above and beyond every single day. Their compassion, patience, and genuine care for each student are evident in everything they do.

Amelia has grown so much this year, both academically and emotionally, and I truly believe its because of the safe, encouraging, and inspiring environment that Mrs. Cuba and Mrs. Mouta have created in their classroom. They are outstanding role models and exceptional teachers.

We feel incredibly fortunate to have had them guide our daughter this year, thank you for all that you do!

Estoy muy agradecida con esta escuela. Mis hijos venían de otra escuela donde a pesar del Tiempo no lograron avanzar en el idioma inglés. En cambio, aquí, en solo un año, el cambio ha sido increíble. Han mejorado su comprensión, pronunciación y confianza al hablar. El apoyo de los maestros macaron una gran diferencia en la educacion de mis hijos muy muy pero muy agradecida con las teachers Gómez de tercero y Fernandez de K viendo la situación de cada uno de mis hijos trabajando de la mano logramos alcanzar muchas de las metas!! Recomiendo esta escuela 100%, especialmente para familias que como la mía, buscan un ambiente donde sus hijos puedan desarrollarse académicamente y dominar el inglés con seguridad y rapidez.

Terrible experiencia !

Repondio el email para la cita . Mi niño con autismo y con ADHD diagnosticado le
Pedi lo sentara alante em la clase y me dijo que ella no hacia acomodaciones es su escuela .
O sea que si tu niño o no ve bien o no escucha bien o tiene adhd no cuenten con ella para nada
no tienen programas ninguno que ayuden a los niños atrasados en materia y los tratan como si los de 8 años tuviesen 15 .
me decían mentira que si que lo iban a sentar alante y nunca fue así . la maestra miss perullas me tuvo un año sufriendo literal . muchas mamas quejándose y muchas se llevaron los niños a otras escuelas . si tu niño o niña es super tranquilo o con A te va a ir bien . Amamos esta escuela, su nivel academico es excelente, sus profesoras son las mejores, sus instalaciones son hermosas. En fin mi hijo pasa a 4to grado y ha adquirido una muy buena rutina de estudio y muchos conocimientos. la recomiendo totalamente.

My kids go to this school, and they love going there. Teachers and all the staff are very caring and welcoming. They are open and listens to students and parents. They try to figure whats best for each student and they encourage them. My kids first language is not English and they are having hard time, but teachers encourage them everyday so that they are learning and growing so much. They have great connection with parents and I see that parents are very much involved in school events. That is always a good things for children.

My child started exhibiting behaviors they did not exhibit in their prior school. My child is kindergarten. New routine and change can be hard. We mostly dealt with their morning separation anxiety. My child does have misbehaving moments. We talk about it. They are honest about what they've done. The way the school handle their behavior at first was understandable. Pulled aside & sat in the office with a parental phone call. I was notified there can be detention after a number of occurrences. Fine with me. However, I felt something happened or something triggered my child's behavior to the point that an incident with my child alone happened & the school police got in involved. When I got to the school, I did not recognized my child's behavior. It took me time to calm them down. I have also spoken to my child's prior teacher & she told me, they have misbehaved & with a time-out, my child got their act together. I told them about the incident in Renaissance, she said my child never got to that extremely with them. I asked my child about the incident, they said they were working when they were pulled from class & was screamed at.
I know of 1 occurrence where my child was bullied by two boys in the field in aftercare. Witnessed by a relative who did me the favor picking up my child. I mentioned it to a staff member in the aftercare. No report made. Until the incident, I was told my child hit other children on many occasions in aftercare. I know only of 1 time where the staff called us & hung up. We called back with no success. The aftercare staff informed us they are not allowed to pickup the phone after 4pm. My child was in their care until 6pm. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE.
Due the disruptive behavior, the incident, the principal felt it was best that my child does not participate in any of the programs the school offered to protect my child. She stated that aftercare staff are primarily college students who are not structured like that day-time staff. I respected it, organized a private bus for my child. The school decided not to placed them on the bus for 2 days because of my child's tantrum & running into incoming traffic. Speaking with the bus driver, they stated my child only cried & didn't want to get in. I chose to withdraw my child, after a tough morning refusing to go to school, their father overheard the principal tell our child they do not need to go on the bus afterschool. If we are cooperating with her demands, why make it difficult through our child?

I think like many schools it's the teachers who really make the difference. I had two children who went here one all through fifth grade and another through second grade and they both were challenged academically but encouraged to grow, be kind to each other, and excel. I think one of the things that made this school special was that there were a ton of after school activities for the children to participate in, be it art, music, sports, or more fun like playing with legos or learning about animals. Although kindergarten in particular was a shock to them as to how different their preschool experience was, I feel the school prepared them to think and learn as they grew. I think all of the teachers my children had were invested in the success of all the children, and I can say honestly that it shows.

RECS is an amazing school. Teachers are professional and caring, leadership is constantly involved, there is a great parent community helping to make it an amazing experience for all kids involved. This is our 4th year at the school and could not be happier. It is personalized, staff knows all kids, great activities, security, enrichment programs and academic excellence. Renaissance elementary of Doral is extraordinary.

My son loves this school, the level of academic demand is fantastic, the best teachers and the best environment. They always listen to you and help you. the activities are very good and the results in the child's learning are very good.

If you want your son to learn, support him with his homework and school obligations, in this school he learns a lot.

Teachers just put computer homework. Kids are not teach to think, just to do, and the volume is high, I pick up my kid around 6pm and he has to stay up to 10:30 or 11pm doing homework. A kid needs his 8hrs sleep, then they ask why they are asleep in class.

Unfortunately, there are only a few that are worth to be called Teachers. Some have a positive impact, others could care less about children who have issues. There are just a few that communicate with you via email or respond to the parents. Good luck complaining because you won't see additional assistance, even the last counselor left the school, and only can guess she was with her hands tied because I saw the frustration on her face that she was not able to help the kids.

They support bullying because all that school wants is to get rid of all the kids that are not mummies in class. Kids are not allowed to be kids, they only take them to the open space twice a week. It is worse than jail.

The principal is a person who does not know how to deal with kids or parents, she only treats well the parents that are there every day to boot-lick her and give things to the school, but a parent that works and barely can cover the "volunteer' hours can't get any help. The Assistant Principal is a little more approachable and understanding, unfortunately, she is under the orders of Maria Torres.

The worse ever. I agree with the parent that said RECS is a school that is geared towards testing and is unable to accommodate students beyond the 2x4 approach of education: the two covers of a text book and the four walls of a classroom. The overarching goal of the school is not to produce tomorrow's citizens but to get the children to pass tests.
They do not respect the kids' feelings and make them feel bad when they do not hit a score on a test and were therefore excluded from participating in certain activities, sobbing in the bathtub in the morning because school was stressing them out. I remember when I was a child kindergarten being a wonderful time: at RECS this is beaten out of them. The administration is not receptive to ideas because any idea a parent has threatens the school principal and her rigid views on hitting the school's key objectives: passing tests. I pointed out to the principal that half the discipline problems with boys can be handled by ensuring the children have an opportunity to play outside and run around, I even suggested for the coach to take the kids that were "misbehaving" to run laps and come back to class so they burn energy, they said it was a liability. Frequently recess is curtailed or cancelled because the administration is worried that children taking tests will be disturbed or because is raining or too much sun. When children are dropped off at school, they are expected to remain silent sitting at tables in the cafeteria instead of being given the opportunity to run around outside before the school day begins and the same is at lunch time. PE is held once a week. This is one of the first programs that is dropped when major tests come up. Recess is usually the next program to be dropped. Again, the school's sole focus is test achievement. When parents complain that their child is having issues, you are basically put on an implicit "do not touch" list where the school is hands off on helping you help your child succeed. Don't expect the school to work with you to help your child succeed if they struggle.

I had two kids that attended this school under Principal Ana Cordal. In conjunction with her assistant Mr. Thompson the school was a model of efficiency, discipline and balance education. However, my third child's experience was very negative and our support of the schools management slowly disappeared. The lack of empathy for children with learning differences, the overload of school work and the failure of leadership has made us seek other alternatives. Everything seems to be geared towards the state testing and real learning has taken a back seat. It is a shame that such a great school has changed for worse.

The school has great reviews, for sure. I have not yet been warmly received as a very engaged parent, and if you don't speak Spanish, you will be ignored by other parents, teacher and admins. My son's teacher is VERY abrasive in her communication style with me, and I cannot help think she is that way with the children. I have been volunteering to try to get more familiar with the staff, but they are not friendly with me. With other parents (Hispanic), they are. No one even tries to engage if you are not Hispanic. Its sad. I am trying to find a better more inclusive school. It may mean I leave Doral, entirely. My son went to a great VPK here in Doral, and did a kindergarten curriculum. That school was culturally-inclusive, encouraged all parents to engage, and everyone was friendly and helpful. This one is not.

Very chaotic and impersonal experience. The school is a bunker with kids confined in classrooms with no natural light (no windows). Furniture dirty and dust all over the classroom. The receptionist don't show any sense of friendliness with parents. Thousands of emails a day but the procedures requested were not honored when need it. Demands for volunteering or money is annoying. If you are looking for a military school for your kids that's your place. Definitely the A+ is not for human relations.

My son started kindergarten in this school under Ana Cordal as principal, we always have information about school activities and everything that happens with our child, however Ana Cordal was promoted and a new principal came on board an the school changed for bad, there are not love for the children, no communications with parents and in my opinion my child have felt behind on his education, i would encourage any parent too search other options first.

My son started in Kindergarden at RECS and this year is in 5th grade, also my daughter is in 3rd grade now and it has been a great school for both of my kids. The school is more strict than other, but now sure why people see it as a negative, I see it as a big plus. If you want to go easy with the education of your kids then go and found another school and good luck with their future!!!
I highly recommend the school to everybody cares about their kids future.

My daughter's teacher was very caring and attentive with her students. The learning environment is positive, structured and fun for the children and there's mutual respect between the teachers, administrators and the children. Parents are kept abreast of the child's progress and feedback is given regularly. I have been very pleased overall and my daughter loves her school.

There is a significant amount of homework and projects but unfortunately, this seems to be the norm in schools today. A lot of the homework does require some level of parent involvement. There is homework assistance in aftercare which is a great help. The Superintendent in the School District has been talking about reducing the heavy load of homework assignments which would allow the kids to have more time for after school sports, activities and creative play. Hopefully this will come into effect soon.

The teachers are caring and friendly and has a strong curriculum. In addition to the standard courses, the students also learn art, physical education, music, computers and Spanish- one class each day of the week. It is a small enough school where the administrators even get to know the students by name. The school is very organized and is a fun, positive learning environment. The grounds are kept nicely inside and out. There are plenty of optional after school programs, although somewhat expensive. The local traffic for drop off/pick up can sometimes be a bit cumbersome but is usually managed effectively by the volunteer parents and teachers. As a charter school, parents are required to volunteer and plenty of opportunities are available to help at the school year round.

After reading a lot of the school's reviews I have to say the following. This school is not easy and it does has a lot of homeworks and projects. We do have a lot of very stress nighs but this school is awesome. I am not a classroom mom or know a lot of the staff in this school. I almost can't go to the school activities or do voluntary hours. The only thing we can do is help our kids with their homewoorks and projects. My kids are both honor students and they are great kids. As long as you as a parent do your daily work with your kids...no need to get anything for free. If you know what I mean! About Mrs. Cordal and the teachers....they are awesome. When you work with so many people you have to follow the rules and if you do one exception then you have to make exceptions with everybody. That's why we have such a great school.

I believe that principles with great leadership are those who exude love and kindness to their students, faculty members and parents naturally and at all times. The principle of this school doesn't have the quality of nurturing not only when board members or parents are present. So often you find the principles that only act a certain way when the are in the presence of those in charge of her salary. I hope that the right people in charge take this into consideration and get a more nurturing and loving principle.

Great teachers,good coordination to drop off and pick up the kids,the staff is very friendly and respectfull.My 3 kids are in both school (elementary/middle) I recommend both school are always attentive to students as well as in the area of the cafeteria,hallways and courtyard. My children (twins) study in this great school since kindergarten, now promoted to the 5th grade. We are two parents involved and extremely pleased with the Principal, staff and teachers. Our school may not be perfect, but that is north of the director, assistant and other staff. We are proud parents, confident and happy to have our two unique children studying in this school.

My daughter has attended RECS since the first grade and is now moving onto the fourth grade. We've had our share of not so great teachers, but such experiences have been outweighted by the great ones! A lot of the parents are high maintenance in the wrong way and demand their kids pass with grades based on who they know and how much they can do for the teachers and school. A lot of them have been disappointed over not getting their way. The principal is as tough on her teachers as she is on her students, with the benefit of all in mind. She listens and acts, and will go as far as she needs to go to correct issues! The office personnel is excellent and make it a warm, safe and inviting environment for parents to leave their children. I am highly engaged with the teachers to ensure communication is there, nothing else. Teachers have a true vested interest in the children and there isn't much of that elsewhere. It is not a perfect school, but it is definitely one of the best schools out there. Having worked in the school system and having had my daughter attend other schools, I can say that schools don't get any better than this!

The negative comments about Recs comes from differents parents. I am one of them and the coincidence in the opinion is the product of the decay of the school. Most of all 5th grades students will not asist to recs middle school and many of 4th grade parents are thinking the same.

It is very sad that this school has gone from bad to worse. 2 years ago, I would have been the parent defending this school, now I can honestly say that I agree with all the previous comments about how horrible this school is. I am glad that I pulled my children out of this school. They have advanced in every single subject and are much happier in the new school. I am sorry Renaissance but something has to change, whether the administration, the teachers or the curriculum. I feel a change is needed in all 3 areas in order for this school to TRY to catch up to the rest. So sad

As a former parent, I can honestly say that this schools leaves a lot to be desired. The administration discourages contacting teachers with any frequency, and as an explanation offers that teachers have too many students and that the teachers cannot be receiving many emails or communications from parents; likewise, the administration says that you cannot contact a teacher before class because that adds stress to her teachers, which have enough stress already. It takes over six phone calls and over a week for a teacher to return a phone call or an email. It is hard to follow up and provide help for my child, when the school does not cooperate in efforts to help him succeed as is so claimed repeatedly throughout your marketing efforts for the school via the website. There seems to be an extreme lack of organization, lack of communication, and most importantly, lack of professionalism in this schools carefully selected staff . Many parents will eventually realize the picture you paint as a school is no more than a farce, and you will lose students to schools that genuinely care about students and their future.

The "Educational Philosophy" of the school as referred to on the school's website states: We place strong emphasis on identifying our student's learning styles and developing strategies that enable these students to succeed. However, this "philosophy" does not apply to all students as stated previously, the large class size does not allow for any identification of strengths, only weaknesses, which are not addressed by the teachers for the purpose of providing support to "enable these students to succeed". Rather, they are addressed to let the parents know that their child is failing. There is no explanation of why, no showing of results to support that recommendation, no meeting to discuss ways to help the students - simply, failure is the option! Since your school has a requirement to show success in order to keep its charter status and federal funds, when students cannot keep up with the pace that you have set, then your solution is retention, or a simple exiting of your school. This way, you are sure to keep your charter status and the funds to continue functioning. All of this, of course, at the expense of those children that may need a little extra help!

The "Curriculum" referred to on the school's website states: The program focuses on each student's individual learning style with interactive studies in mathematics, science, language arts, social studies, music, art, technology, life skills, intramural sports and foreign languages. However, the teachers are unaware of the students individual learning styles, as per my conversation with my sons former 1st grade teacher, wherein she stated that there was no time for differentiated instruction, individual learning styles, or individualized attention due to the number of students in her class. That was made very clear!

This school could be great if the current administration would only follow their own bylaws contained in their own Renaissance Charter School hand book. Unfortunately the schools A+ rating has clouded the school's true vision of the current principal's main objective. This is to protect and serve our children's best interest for building a strong foundation through a good education. This is achieved through Proper communication within an accommodating atmosphere which is clearly stated in the Renaissance Charter School hand book.: "'Parent-Teacher conferences are an important part of the school program Give your child the security of feeling the cooperative spirit that exists in a friendly parent-teacher relationship." As I mentioned earlier, this school could be great. However, if the current administration is left to rule for too long a period of time, eventually stagnation will occur and the system will inevitably become corrupt. Thus preventing the Doral Renaissance Chapter school from ever reaching the pinnacle of true greatness

Yes, the school is very pretty and small, has a private school feel but beware! Do not judge a book by its cover . I do not recommend this school to anyone. I had a very bad experience just like most parents who are involved and who care about their child s academics. The teaches have no clue what as to what they are doing; the classes are too big (29 plus students) per 1 teacher. The principle is a piece of work, you will get nowhere with her, so don t even waste your time. The only parents that comment great things are probable homeroom moms who are the only ones with privileges and the only children who pass (whether they are on task or not) are theirs what a coincidence! Stay away if you could, not the best decision.

As many other parents have stated the PRINCIPAL is a piece of work. Her lack of people skills go very far with her. She is quick to say that it is a "choice" school, and I agree, but she forgets that without our choice there would be none. Academically it is a great school, but administration... It really leaves a lot to be desired!!!

My daughter is in fourth grade. I am very happy with this school. The teachers are really nice and kind and I like the discipline and the open communication between teachers and parents . The administration is well organized . My daughter have Ms. AZ and Ms. Ardilla . Both teachers are really inspiring and teaches the kids in a very interactive way.I feel very lucky to have them as my daughters teachers. They also helped her emotionally when she was going through a stage of low self esteem . They were able to guide her in a friendly way that made her regain her self confidence. Ms.AZ challenges kids through a lot of fun filled math and science activities . Ms Ardilla gives them higher level challenging work and keeps them busy with a lot of projects and group activities. Now my daughter feels sad as the school year is ending. She really enjoyed the school year and it was made possible by her wonderful teachers.

My daughter started K in 2010 at RECS, for unexpected reasons and that was the best thing that could have ever happened to her. This is a great school and she the opportunity of having an amazing Kinder experience with her teacher: Ms. Gonzalez with a unique combination of discipline and kindness. She was able to get the best of each student. My only con is the constant funds raising, and still needs to grow on extra curricular activities. Other than that the school is great.

School is great, the problem is that some parents don't want to follow the rules. and that is why the Principal has to be on top of everything. if she wouldnt be like that, the school will be a dissaster because us parent want to do things our way and imagine over 700 parents doing things their way...

It begins with the Principal and she is rude and disrespectful and has always been rude to me. It's the 3rd day of school and there she is yelling at me as if I were a deaf child. I am a professional adult and THE parent of one of her TOP students that complies with all the Charter School Rules yet I am being treated in a foul way. My child attends the school because she loves it there and she is being challenged where she can reach her full potential. Yes academically the school is great, but props go to the teachers for this. The teachers and some of the staff compensate the Principals lack of people skills and unporfessionalism. Consider yourself lucky for not having the same experience as I.

The recent negative reviews posted here read like they may have come from the same disgrunted parent. I do not know if she/he has a vendetta against the principal but they should get over it. The school is very good and both my kids are learning and are happy here. If it were as bad as this parent makes it sound, I would have gone to another school. Why be miserable and put your kid through such a "dictatorial" environment? The school staff is excellent and have always been there for my family. Parents seem very involved and the PTA is very active year round. The academic program is second to none.

Actually, I agree with that last parent who commented on April 29, 2011 there is no such thing as a perfect school. However, I do disagree with the criticism aspect, because constructive criticism is productive, and I am sure some parents have complained but there complaints have been overlooked. As a parent I've given my feedback on those surveys and I've never seen any change, it's as if they are fond of communism or dictatorship and would never support change at RECS.

My son has been at Renaissance for 3 years and i've had my issues with the school at times, but for the most part it has been a very good experience. I don't know of any school that's perfect and if any one does please let me know. So you have to put everything into perspective. At the end of the day, no one made me put my child in this school and if i was as unhappy as some of the parents sound i would do everything in my power to change schools. Everyone has a right to complain, but maybe we can give suggestions to improve our school instead of constant criticism.

As a parent I strongly disagree with the previous comment. All the parents including myself are partly responsible for the success behind Renaissance. We parents volunteer our time, money, and we put a lot of dedication in everything we do. At times I would say we work and contribute just as much as the principal. Personally I don't mind interacting with a stern principal, but I think that she still mirror the image of professionalism and dedication with a little more class and tactfulness. It' s nice to be able to communicate with a principal that is willing to listen and hear the feedback that parents have to offer. Let's bear in mind that communication is the key to success. Shame on you we all put effort into the process! At last you have some audacity telling us parents what we need to do if we disagree. I think that Renaissance needs a change of parents and principal, in order to live to its true expectations!

Renaissance is a very good school. My child has been a student here four years now. I am very pleased with the pace of the curriculum. The Principal's stern personality should not be viewed as a flaw to her profesionalism and dedication. She runs a tight ship, and the results are proof that she delivers. The teachers are great, but they are part of a private business and just as the principal, they must all meet their corporate goal. I am very surprised with some of the comments of the "parents". It is a choice to have your children attend this school. If you are that unhappy with it, or disagree with the principal then make your move to another learning facility. This is definetly not your average Miami-Dade public school, you have to put some effort into the process!. With the move of the elementary school to the new facility, some of that "community" school charm has been lost. PE and extracurricular activities need some major improvements.

I completely agree with the Principal's negative attitude. I could understand her stress running two schools, but unfortunately it does provide a cold, bad atmosphere. The school in general is good, the teachers are very enthusiastic of their work and I believe well trained and very professional. The PTO is outstanding! They are the stem of the social events, and are the social connection to the kids. The drop off system is outstanding. I have passed through other schools, and NONE of them have such a great organization. The Organization as per events and day to day issues is good.

It's my first year in this school and I absolutely love it.... My daughter was in private school and we change her because my husband was relocated. We are lucky that she has a good education and strict environment. Keep the good work.

This is the 1st year my son is at this school. The principal,assistant principal, teachers and other stuff members are GREAT!!! Remember that the principal is running 2 schools. As for the drop off and pick up. It's great too! The stress is broght upon the kids by the people who are dropping them off and picking them up. (Get there on time you wouldn't have a promblem) I have NOT been yelled at while I drop my son off, not once. Only when I have volunteered for the drop off in the a.m. by the person who drops off the child. Sad that some adult's don't know how to behave. One more thing about drop off take a look at other schools. That would give anybody stress. I want to say thank you to all those who make this school run smoothly.
