This school is awful. The staff more specifically. I was in emergency of going to the bathroom and all of the bathrooms were locked across the school for no reason at all. Its always like this. I went to the front office and I said, I really need to go to the bathroom can I use it here all of them are locked. FOR NO REASON they basically said no and said nope, I dont care and told me to use bathroom 500, like I was some type of animal and I wasnt allowed to use that bathroom because it was locked. I went to the lunch room as a last resort and it was the only bathroom open only to get lectured by the guy that I cant use this restroom because other kids are having lunch.. WHATTTT. Anyway I just went because I felt like dying. The staff here cares nothing about emergencies. To add to that they dont care even about what parents say. There could also be bullying right in front of them and they wont do anything. I feel stuck at this school, trapped. The staff is really rude. To add I have noticed some discriminating in this school. The black kids only seem to sit by themselves or get bullied. Dont come here.

Years ago the school had some bad reviews, but my son wanted to give the school a chance, and let me just say best decisions ever, this SCHOOL has been AMAZING, yes there's some staff member and teachers that are rude but that's everywhere, Mr.Harris the principal is a great principal who cares about his students so much that the kids nick name him Papa Harris. The theater teach, band teacher, dance coach, & most of the teachers care greatly for the students and their future!!!

This school is absolutely disgusting. The staff. The people. Everything. I do not recommend going here or sending your kids to school here. The staff doesnt care about the students safety and will completely and utterly ignore any problems you have or choose to discuss with them. If your child is being bullied they wouldnt care and would find some way to blame it on your child just to keep it pushing. They dont take their job seriously enough and if it was up to me I would fire them! I have talked to the staff personally face to face and they were extremely rude! They are extremely rude to the students too and I believe that if you arent happy with your job you shouldnt take it out on the kids. It feels like they just hire anyone. The kids that attend alonso high school are another big factor. They carry things that they shouldnt carry to school. They also will threaten your child, will bully your child, will pick on your child, and create unnecessary problems or involve your child in unnecessary problems. If your kid goes to the adults/staff and tries to do the right thing the administration will simply brush it off and pretend like nothing happened. They will not care! I have been faced with this multiple times and it is draining! Take it from me who has experienced this first hand. Alonso just needs better staff and needs to be under control! This is not a lovely high school experience if you are planning to attend Alonso high school and its not going to be a lovely experience for the parents either having to worry about their child. I wish Alonso was a safer environment with better administration. Students dont have anyone to go to when they have an issue because the administration wouldnt care, and thats not ok! School should be a safe environment. Students should be excited to go to school, not scared or depressed. Overall this is just a terrible school and I wouldnt recommend to anyone, ever! Please if you are thinking about going to Alonso, think again and just dont go, youll thank me later.

The experience my son had over 4 years was really sub optimal and did not attempt to prepare any students for college. Through my firsthand experiences with the staff, it's woefully evident that their poor morale and management affects the students and creates an unhealthy atmosphere.

Personally, I'd recommend finding another nearby school that has an experienced administration that understands the needs of their students

We moved from another part of Tampa and by far, this school is very good. A few tweeks need to be made but I have no complaints. Parents need to learn how to raise their kids and not leave it to an entire school to do it for them.

Both my children graduated from this school and excelled in both academics and sports. Went all county and won state competitions. My daughter was able to get into one of the great military academy's which are very difficult to get in to. Teachers, and the administration were always great to work with.

The school is exceptional with communication and opportunities for unique learning. My daughter is in FFA, their land lab is a wonderful learning experience.

My son is a 9th grader and I can't be anymore happy with the school. I wonder how the last comment said its not a good school and the teachers are terrible when its an "A" rated school. I have met all my sons teachers on parent conference night and have communicated with them via Edsby and I can honestly say the teacher have been great and truly care if your child succeeds. The Saturday School Success program is great it allows my son to attend tutoring at the school twice a month from 9-12 to get caught up with any work he needs. I highly recommend this school to anyone GO RAVENS!

I'm in the 9th grade at Alonso High School I hhave worst experience ever it's not a good school. The student are disruptive and terrible and the teachers are bad I haven't learn anything. The school is not welcoming at all, the guidence counselor doesn't do anything if you have a personal problem with a class. This school is terrible in my words, I don't have joy in going to school anymore I'm always mad and frustrated when I have to wake up and go to this school. I constently want to go to sickles high school cause I feel like more of careful school. Mr. Schider is always stating argument with kids and is the mean and disrespectful person that works at the school. I hope you see my review cause this is the TRUTH!!

My daughter is in 9th grade at Alonso this year and we both LOVE this school. The principal, teachers and administration seem to truly care about the students success. GREAT SCHOOL!

I have a child going into 12th grade and another transitioning from Middle School. My sons friends have been able to pick up their schedules for the year from school. Just driven up, asked and been handing them, at various, random times. I visited the school and was told that I couldn't have them, they are not printed, being changed and will be given out tomorrow at open house. I already explained my kids are 8 hours away, I work long distance and cannot be at the open house. Knowing that others already got their schedules just by randomly showing up at the school, this was unacceptable. No-one was waiting, how long would it have taken? I explained that other parents have theirs. I was then told that yes, they had been given out at various times. I was refused the schedules. Disappointing that kids needs are not a concern here. The first day at a new school needn't be this stressful.. My oldest has special needs that require a 504 plan. My youngest is making the transition to High School from Middle School. Having their schedules would have eased a lot of stress for them. I am not impressed at all and am reconsidering my school options going forward.

To all those parents who voice negative opinions about Alonso High School, I wonder how involved you are with the school or do you even have a student at this school? I volunteer at the school and wonder why more parents don't take the time to be involved. Join the PTSA. Join the Booster Club. There are volunteer opportunities in high school. My teenager choose to attend this high school over several other very good options and has been very successful in academics and sports. The teachers and staff of this school helpful and seem to geniunely care about the students success in high school. I would highly recommend 'A'lonso High School.

The previous comment is a GROSS exaggeration. The key is to be INVOLVED and get to know who your child's teachers are, and if you're not happy - do something about it! The principal Mr Diaz, is a great leader. My son is a junior and has had some AMAZING teachers who have made a HUGE difference in his success in school, including this year. Fights are going to happen, but daily is very misleading. NO school is perfect - including Sickles.

I have a 9th grade son involved with football and honors classes at Alonso HS. We have been impressed so far with the teachers and coaches. I have found that all of his teachers are more than willing to assist with his academic needs and have been timely with returning communication via Edline. The sports programs seem competitive and well coached. The school is very diverse but it seems to work. My son will tell you that he enjoys school and has found friends fairly easily. I'm sure Alonso struggles with issues as all high schools do, but I wish more of the area students would give this school a try before prematurely bailing out on it for private school. They may be wasting their money.

Let's get an up-to-date review, shall we? Sophomore in the year of 11. The past reviews are unrealistic, as if it's either a flawlessly amazing school or a terrible prison for teenagers. It's not amazing but not painful. Not all the kids are sweeter than sugar cookies or more bitter than coffee, some are, but there's a pretty good mix of personalities and types, anyone could find a friend. Most of the teachers are alright, friendly, but some obviously cannot handle a class without shouting. I will not mention a name but one particular teacher got a bad group of kids for a class I was in, and took to yelling at them every single day, denying them going to the bathroom, things like that. Others are a bit too passive, however, saying nothing most of the class. The principal and assistant principals are usually good with big obvious school rule violations, but seem to do little when individuals ask for help. I personally love the school, mainly for the social aspects, but there is always room for improvement.
