I attended this school for 5 years back in 2012-2017 before I transferred. This school has a god awful issue with bullying. The students here are fake and 2 faced. Your own "friends" would literally watch you get bullied and not bother to step in and stick up for you. I don't understand how my experience at Homestead High was the complete opposite. Not once did I get bullied over there. Keys Gate is the worst school I've been to. Don't put your child here for their own mental health and safety. Some teachers would quit because of the rude students and we would be left with substitute teachers for the rest of the year.

This is my child’s first year at the school, it hasn’t been a very great experience so far. The teachers keep on resigning and the kids are left with multiple substitutes. There is very little communication and there is no sense of routine. The substitute teachers hand out packets for the students to complete as “busy work” but those packets are missing pages and is evidence that not much teaching is happening. My child has been bullied and the teachers do little to nothing. I’m already looking to transfer to a different school.

My children have attended these schools over 5 years, over the last 4 years its been a blessing. Latest leadership Daniel Verdier the new principal is a joke. The school has started making a drastic change, massive influx in teachers leaving and the morale at the lowest level ive seen it. The emails going out to parents seem to be those from jail. They have changed policies from night to day with little to no notice in many instances. The sibling pick up was changed with no notice, putting the children at a safety risk. Absolute disaster, don't enroll your child.

We switched to Keys Gate from Gateway Environmental K-8. The differences are night and day. The smaller student population and class sizes are a huge factor. In addition, the administration is much more better at communicating as well as the teachers.

My daughter has been going to Keys Gate since Kindergarten and I have LOVED the experience for both her and I. The involvement is wonderful and there is always something going on that children and their families can be a part of. Recently the new principle, Mr. Verdier, took over, helping Ms. Baez and he has been great and very involved, as Ms. Baez is, who I absolutely LOVE. The way they organize everything at that school, from the traffic in the morning to the events they have or have had at the school is just absolutely AMAZING! Would definitely suggest enrolling your children at this school if you live in the area. Definitely worth it!

My experience at this school has been super. The teachers are motivated to ensure the children’s educational growth. The clerical staff are always friendly, helpful, and go out of the way to assist parents. What I find to be most impressive is that the principal is always accessible. Whether it be directing traffic in the student drop off, assisting in distribution of devices, or just being out at the annual Christmas activities the administration makes a presence. I would describe the school atmosphere as family orientated - one big family. This school welcomes and encourages family participation in school activities through volunteering. I have two kids that attend, one is in the fourth grade and the other is in the first grade. I have found the classroom environment to be nurturing, challenging, and engaging.

For those who need more help they provide tutoring before and after school. My youngest also started kindergarten and now is in 2nd grade. I've recommended the school to all my family and friends.

Their communication system is like none other (power schools/ class dojo) I can see every grade inputted in the system. I now have my two youngest daughters in the K-2 building and their is no other school I would consider my children attending. Keys gate is definitely a 5 star school.

Posted: August 27, 2018

the parking is horrible. a school is also a place of business. if you want people to come to your business you make sure you have enough parking space. You make sure it's easy to get in and out without getting in trouble with cops. This school makes up it's own rules when it comes to that. The lines and wait times are terrible. They need to spend more money on making new parking space instead of making up their rules trying to reform the waiting line with cops that keep harassing the parents. We the parents pay for the school, treat us with respect and make us feel welcome.

Posted: August 12, 2018

the changes that the school has implemented last year are working in resolving the issues that they had in previous year with a different administration, students are made accountable for the work they need to get done, and communication with the parents.

Posted: August 12, 2018

The administration has done major changes and place teacher that are able to engage the students and are capable to teach the specific subject. they provide support after school 2x per week, if the child needs help they have the assistance.

Posted: August 12, 2018

Posted: August 12, 2018

The new Principal took over the school 1 year ago, and already we can see changes in the grades from last year, he has made the necessary changes in teachers so now the school moved from a grade D to a Grade B and missed the A for about 5 points, he is engaging with the parents/students/ and teachers providing solution to any gaps.. I was in the process of moving my child to another school but I wanted to provide a chance to see the results - and I am glad that I did.

I was in the process of moving my child to another school because the ratings had dropped in previous years - I have notice that the administration team in conjunction with the teachers have been working really hard to move the school grade from a D to a B - they have improved the gap they had with communication between parents and teachers/school - they still have more to improve for sure, but I am glad that the school made the change and found a good leader to move them forward.

Posted: February 27, 2017

I would not send my child to this school because of the constant turn over of teachers leaving the school in mid year and the administrative issues with parents and the community.

Posted: February 10, 2017

Matters are addressed really fast. The parents of the bullies don't like it, but their children receive consequences for behaving inappropriately. The school give kids lots of chances, but if the kids don't improve and it makes it hard for the other students learning, more stern consequences are issued.

Posted: February 10, 2017

My son was struggling in math. The school offered free tutoring and daily intervention where another teacher pulled him out and worked with him. They also do smaller groups with the regular teacher everyday. There is an ESE teacher too.

Posted: February 10, 2017

Administration is always open to speak with parents. I'm glad that they hold parents and students accountable. They don't overlook disruptive and hurtful behavior. Parents that complain are those whose children are causing problems.

Posted: February 10, 2017

The teachers and school try to develop strong character. I think it is very difficult because the kids are not getting it from home.

Posted: February 10, 2017

Posted: February 10, 2017

I like that the homework is not over the top. My child is able to complete it on his own. He says it's things he's learned in class.

Posted: February 10, 2017

My son is a second grader at Keys Gate. We transferred from another school in the Homestead area last year. This school is AMAZING! It is such a loving environment. The teachers are encouraging and make learning fun. They push the students to be their best. I love that the administration, Mrs. Thermes and Mrs. Malave, are on top of things. I appreciate the fact that they take discipline issues seriously. The school we transferred from would allow students to be disruptive and violent at times and nothing would happen to the students. At Keys Gate issues are handled immediately. My sons teacher this year, Ms. Monteagudo and his teacher last year are great at communicating with me. I highly recommend this school for anyone with children in kindergarten through second grade.

Posted: December 7, 2016

unfortunately, I was not satisfied with the teacher nor the assistant principle that was in charge. My son would sometimes come home crying. He has been in daycare since he was 6 months, and it never gotten to a point that my son wanted to escape the classroom. He has always enjoyed school. They don't address the teacher when I had a complaint. They say they will work with the child, but I sincerely felt as if they were provoking him to behave in a manner that not even I recognized. That is when I knew it was the school, So I had to move him. If a kindergarten wants to escape the building, and he has never done that, that is a red flag. The staff at the front desk are amazing though.

There is not a character education component at this school within the student program. Too much emphasis on testing and its results and not on developing the attributes of character among the student population.

Posted: April 23, 2015

This is a great school. Administrator, teachers and other staff are very responsible and responsive. Help is available to all students that need it and for those that don't need it there is advance programs. So many opportunities for development in academics, arts and academics.

Posted: April 22, 2015

Keys Gate has a great advanced Cambridge program for middle school. Parents are very involved. Office staff is very professional, caring and attentive. They have lots of resources most of the other local charter schools do not have you can tell where the money goes in making this school better.

Posted: September 17, 2014

So far so good children second year at this school. Most teachers are good, counelors have been helpful. The opportunities and well as rules are there, those who choose not to follow or take advantage of what is in place will not benefit, therefore should attend Gateway instead. Lunch could improve. Keep up the good work Knights, let's turn the B school back to an A!

Posted: August 27, 2014

Terribly organized, hard work goes unrecognized, teachers don't care and show favoritism to athletes. Too much book work instead of actual teaching, students don't learn a thing!!!

Posted: June 17, 2014

Never come across such a terrible school organization. It is 6/18 and my High School graduate is yet to get his diploma. An email from Ms. Baez stated my son could pick it up today but when I went to pick it up they said they are giving them out in groups as people provide their information so now till next week. My son joined the Marines and deadline for his diploma was two weeks ago. Now my 8th grader got his report card today but while trying to enroll him in Miami Dade Online Academy they say Keys Gate has my son as no grades or attendance for 3rd and 4th quarter. DO NOT send your kids to this school! It is a mess. The principal has no people skills or compassion. Guidance Counselor Ms. Singh is amazing plus several great teachers but unfortunately they don't run the school.

Denies students educational opportunities. FREE enrollment in summer courses at MDC for college credit - DENIED. At no cost to school or parents - DENIED. We had to repeatedly prompt them to call the college (yes, they denied it before they even understood it) and they still have difficulty understanding the process despite the clear explanations of the director at MDC. Who denies students educational opportunities? These folks. You are welcome to email me about it and other issues we have faced here. We scored them a 1 star because you can't score them 0 stars. They have a lot of areas they can improve upon - I hope they take the opportunity to better themselves.

Horrible school! Bullying is condoned "life isn't fair. In life we don't have to like everyone we meet or work with or go to school with." This comment was made by the Vice Principal! My daughter was admitted into Miami Childrens and diagnosed with depression at 8 years old by bulling being done at this school and no compensation was received. None of the children responsible reprimanded, suspended, or expelled. My child a straight A gifted student no longer wants to go to school. Keys Gate is just a name and pretty school. The teachers dont communicate, no homework is checked, no class work is sent home as proof work is being done in class. Will be pulling my daughter out ASAP!

Horrible leadership within this school. Poor communication between teachers, leaders, and parents. Selectively enforced policies, rules, and guidelines. Teaches the wrong life lessons to children from examples set. On the other hand, you can rest assured that it reinforces that life isn't fair, some people just aren't nice, and not all role models should be considered, well, role models. Stay away from this place. Very disappointing. No student lockers - no student library. Students must carry backpacks FILLED with books and binders to each class - that is horrible for growing spines!!! You think they'd have ipads or other technology in place to protect them. I only gave them a 1 star because you couldn't give zero stars; 2 star items should be viewed as "in comparison to" the one star items, and therefore considered relative, not an indication of being truly 2 star worthy. I am embarrassed to say that we currently attend this school in the middle school area and after moving across the country I actually plan to move my children out of this school at the end of the year. It IS that bad here. Don't be fooled. Submitted by a parent

Esperemos y sea de nuevo una escuela "A" , pero para eso todos los padres deben apoyar a los alumnos para que los maestros hagan mejor su trabajo.

The leadership at this school is the worst, in other words there's none. I have my son there, in first grade. They has taken un-thoughtful decision-making about retaining our child without taking our opinion or approval in consideration, not even the option of summer school or any other program available to avoid retention. Watch out parents... do research on how many kids in early grades this school are been retain base on nonsense arguments. This school is playing with our kids future. Assistant Principal Magarino lacks of professionalism and leadership. She is rude and not communicative with parents nor the teachers. Leadership without a doubt is in denial of their ability to lead an educational institution.

The neputism, double styandard dress codes, bullying, staff beligerancies and the whole spectrum of negative commments cited have been the experiance we've had as well and are reflective off leadership that's in denial of thier inabliity to lead an educationa institution. There are some decent teachers at this school who are unfairly associated with the debacuhery shared on this website. My prediction....on thier current trajectory...this school will be on the news next year as a result of a tragedy, thank God my child won't be part of it!

Would not recommend this school. NO leadership. They are not out for the children, just for the numbers and themselves. Bullying is a real issue and not addressed. SIS is a joke because teachers don't use it right. In regards to the comments about "if you don't like it, pull your kids"...well...I am!

The teachers are great, the leadership is ok. I don't know where people get the idea that no one cares if a kid is lost. I saw in the office one kid who left the school on his own (without permission.) The office freaked looking for the kid. The school is great, it's only rough spots are when you hit the high school (that's when you should run away) The education is great and the staff cares about their students. If there is any flaw it is that the school is overcrowded, and they seem to pull a lot of students from bad areas, or bad schools. For those who keep putting bullying is a problem.....send your kids to Campbell and lets see how bad the bullying compares, of course bullying is a problem, its a problem in every school.

Keys Gate K-2 is a great place to send your child. Your welcomed everyday with friendly staff members who truly care about your child. The front office staff are always friendly and willing to help you with whatever is asked of them. The leadership team at the building takes care of any issues that come up and are always willing to see you at a moments notice. The teachers are very caring and willing to go above and beyond to help their students.

I am so happy that Keys Gate Charter School is in Homestead! They continue to raise the bar with great teachers and an excellent environment for learning! I was at their Veteran's Day Celebration and I can honestly say I have never seen anything like it at any school my child has attended. It was an amazing ceremony and what it is teaching our children is beyond words. Thank you to the Principal and his administration fro always putting his students first!

THIS SCHOOL IS THE WORST!!! As a military family we have been to many schools and this is by far the worst school ever. If your child has special needs or an IEP the teachers do not communicate with you or your child and they dont know how to provide assistance to that child. They dont care but act like they do. Motto "no child left behind" does not apply at this school. The front office people are lost, the vice principal is not involved, I can go on and on. THIS NEEDS TO BE AN F SCHOOL!!!

I am finally able to remove my children from this dreadful place. They lost my 9 year old last year and never called to tell me she was missing, they traumatized my 10 year old by misplacing her sister and then telling her to go back to class and stop disrupting class. Luckily my eldest daughters teacher has a conciouss and went door to door through the school until my youngest was safely found and then called me to reassure me that she was safe. Meanwhile no one else from the entire staff bothered to even call, or acknowledge my anger at their nonchalant behavior towards a missing child. I demanded a confrence with the "always absent" principal and he passed it off to the assistant principal who did nothing. Due to the bullying both my children and many other children experience, the loosing of ones children (it has happened 3 more times that I know of to other kids), the nepitism if your parent has money or the advanced placement if your mom/dad is a teacher, and the complete reverse racism you recieve if your not hispanic you are truly putting your kids in harm if you allow them to attend this place! As easy as it is to homeschool in this state you are much better that way.

I transferred my daughter into this school because of all the great reviews I heard. HA. I had a meeting with administration and was told that she would be placed in advance classes, even gifted once they tested her. My daughter was not placed in advanced placement nor tested. Was told that advanced classes were to full. As for the testing for gifted the teacher didnt make the recommendation until the end of the school year meaning that it cannot take place till next year and another year of waiting. Yet my daughter has the highest record of reading scores for the second grade class. I had several parent teacher meetings in regard to the school meeting her educational needs. I was often told take it up with admisinstration. You just get a runaround. The assistant prinicple is unprofessional and not very qualified for her position. The afterschool pick up is best compared to a stampeed in the amazon. Disorganized and unsafe. RUN from this school. There is favoritism between volunteer parents and teachers. Not every parent can volunteer daily. This school is joke. I regret ever putting my daugheter here.

I have been reading some of the negative comments related to KGCS and I feel that they certainly are not warranted. The school has grown tremendously in the last several years based on high demand. This seems to be a very strong indicator that the school is doing many things right! The new principal and his administrative team are very responsive to any concerns (try getting return phone calls at a District school!). In spite of all the growth and constant changes demanded in the curriculum by the State of Florida, the school still manages to keep pace, and, in many instances, surpass District scores! Keep up the great work KGCS Administration and Faculty!

Last summer we moved from the Northeast to Homestead and luckily my 8 year old got accepted into the 3rd grade at Keys Gate Charter School. I was warned that my child might be ahead of the class because Florida schools are not as good as the ones in the Northeast. Those who said that were mistaken. My child had an amazing year with tremendous challenges. They offered free tutoring for FCAT prep and worked with very good teachers. My child had a wonderful teacher and she always responded to my emails and addressed any of the day to day concerns that I had. I fulfilled my volunteer obligations with no problem. This has been a great experience for my child and I look forward to seeing my younger one attend Kindergarten next year.
