Both of my children attended HCST and had amazing experiences! The teachers are friendly and genuinely care about the students. The staff and administration are extremely supportive and great with communicating to the parents. In addition to the push for higher learning, the school is hands down, the safest learning environment. I highly recommend Horizon Charter School of Tampa!

As a former student, I really can't think of any reason to give HCST anything under the glowing review I've given it. Their policies and methods have made me diligent and hard-working, and they treat students fairly and attentively. Five stars!

Excellent school with incredible teachers and academics. My kids all attended Horizon and had great success that carried them through high school. There are not many opportunities for parental involvement, but the school is very safe and offers cool clubs, like robotics and Math League. The students are well behaved and there were little to no social problems within the classes. So happy we found such an amazing school!

Teachers have very little experience and most times none. School uses intimidation and starts telling both students and families that the child may not make it to next grade from the first month of the year. My childs NWEA went from average in horizon to above the 95th percentile just one year after horizon. And i didnt have to help with anything at home, he just needed a safe supporting environment to show what he already had within him.

Most of the Staff are very rude and noy supportive. The way principal talks to parents is horrible. They are not supportive and helpful to resolve issues if any.

I am writing to express my deep concerns about the ongoing issues my child has faced at this institution. As a parent, I am extremely disappointed by the lack of communication from teachers and staff, which has caused significant frustration. I believe it is essential for parents and educators to work together to create a positive environment for our children, but unfortunately, that has not been the case.

One of the most troubling aspects of my childs experience is the dismissive and even offensive attitude exhibited by staff when discussing concerns or issues. Instead of addressing the internal problems within the school environment, there seems to be a strong focus on external factors, which detracts from the real needs of the students.

Additionally, I find it completely unacceptable that students are expected to adhere to a military-like level of discipline and silence. For instance, children are not even allowed to speak when forming a line to use the restroom. This excessive control and lack of freedom of expression are not conducive to fostering a positive and supportive learning environment.

It has become clear that the schools primary concern is its rating, rather than the well-being and development of its students. The pressure to maintain this rating is overshadowing the core purpose of education, which should be to nurture and support children in all aspects of their growth.

As a concerned parent, I feel compelled to advise others to carefully consider whether this school is the right fit for their child. The environment is not one where students can thrive, and I truly believe that any parent who sends their child here will regret it.

The way principal talks to kids and parents is horrible.
They expect kids to be like matured adults and make no mistakes. They focus on consequences and no appreciation for positive things.

My both kids study in this school. I used to drive almost 80 miles everyday to drop both my kids . Thats the quality of education this school gives. They both improved a lot in their academics. My second one likes gardening and art and this school provided enough support for them to excel .
School could look small but their effort and education is big .

Both of my children have attended this school since they were in Kindergarten and we have had nothing but amazing, positive experiences! The teachers are absolutely AMAZING and administration works very hard to ensure the needs of all children are met. My students are in the gifted program and need accelerated curriculum, which was identified by the school administration when my children were in very young grades, providing them with the challenges and enrichment needed to meet their potential. The school has a strong emphasis on respect and culture, which protects the students and provides for a safe and welcoming school environment. Very happy with our choice!

I am a concerned parent and I am also a business owner so I don't write negative reviews easily, I am also a mother who is dedicated to the happiness and well-being of my children.My Child attended the Horizon charter school for over 6 years however due to the horrible treatment, my daughter and I recibe from administration ( principal ) we decided to withdraw , after all this years , my daughter like any other child, is not perfect, but has never been or caused a problem for the school, however ,she (principal) behaved as if she were completely unqualified to administrate the position that she holds , her extremely condescending and uncalled for attitude is destructive for parents who, like me, care about their children and think that this will be the person looking out for our.l childrens ,
This woman ( principal ) feels is in a position of power and in my opinion, she abuses of the fact , has cero empathy, and use her power in the worst possible way, I recommend to any parents strongly to do their research before entrusting their children to this school , where they will have to deal with an administration , who does not value the opinion of parents,
Now the I know how she speaks to parents , I can only imagine how she runs the school and treats the staff/students.

We came upon HCST while looking for a school that would offer our sons a learning environment that was focused and controlled. He had previously attended a public school that had amazing teachers, but the lack of control in the classroom (administration hands tied with behavioral issues of some children) slowed down progress in the class work.
HCST has provided our boys with a wonderful combination or education, kindness, and discipline. The administration is quick to handle behavioral issues and will not allow one child to take away from another child's learning experience. The school is small and the teachers know all the children personally. I feel confident that my children are being challenged but not overworked, loved but not coddled, and are thriving in their environment.

Our daughter has been in this school for three years now, through the pandemic. I don't always agree with every little decision the teachers or the administrators make, but they have always been willing to discuss those decisions with me and to take my comments into consideration when raised and the decisions they make take the best interest of the kids to heart. The teachers and administrators, at least in my experience, are refreshingly open to considering the individual needs of each child as well as the needs of the student body as a whole and are committed to working together with the parents to meet those needs.

School has great test scores but is horrible at Child Development and anything outside of test scores. Your children will be looked at as a number not people and treated with no dignity or respect. Communication is a huge issue as you can only contact anyone at the school via email. The staff has an attitude of superiority and smugness. The school is also far behind in resources ie: Computers, Smart Boards, Digital Text Books, AR Program, there is no real cafeteria, there is no real library, the facility is dirty, and the parking lot is full of large holes.

Horrible school. Principal doesnt care about any of the kids. Actually talks down to them. Tells parents how bad their kid is even when they arent. This school should be closed down. I feel bad for any child that has to go here

My daughter was attending this school for 2 1/2 years. We LOVED it at first, the teachers were great, she made lots of friends and I loved the idea of her growing with her school friends, we intended tp keep her there until 8th grade. They seemed a bit strict, but I'm ok with structure and rules so we did our best to always abide by what the teachers and staff requested when there were activities and assignments due. Once the pandemic occurred, my daughter is high-risk so we had no other choice than to opt for E-learning and stick with that. Before this, we had no line of sight into what happens in the classroom, oh but I'm so happy we did! There were at least 3 assignments I caught that were graded unfairly (for example, one quiz of hers not one answer was wrong yet the teacher marked it 50%, and they claimed there was no way my daughter could have gotten the answers all right (although we studied for 2 weeks) and there must have been a computer prompt that caused her to get the answers right....yes the principal said that! When there was a concern, I tried to address this with the teacher, and kept being referred to the principal. Emails would go unanswered, it would take 2-3 days for them to even respond to a concern, if they did so at all. There was a lot more than happened but this review would go on for days. I got tired of my child crying at her desk every other day so ultimately we changed schools and my child is so much more happier and excelling in every subject, and her spark for learning that this school diminished has returned. I hate that this was the experience we had at the end because we really loved this school but I know we made the right decision in leaving. And I know that the school and/or principal will respond to this review defensively, I'm sure, because even during our parent/teacher conference she was cutting us off and being condescending with countless excuses. Just sharing what we went through.

Horizon Charter is simply an excellent school. They work hard to help kids learn, and both of our kids went to Horizon Charter.

Teachers - at every grade level we found teachers that were engaged, sincerely cared about our children's educational development and delivered curriculum in a consistent professional manner.

Leadership - I absolutely LOVE the administration at Horizon Charter. They are all industry veterans, who put your child and helping your child find a passion for learning above everything else. We were aware of many examples where kids were disruptive (including one of mine) and they were removed from classes, so others could learn.

Character - they do a wonderful job of teaching what matters - honesty, integrity, respect, compassion and doing your best.

Learning differences - One of our kids has challenges and the administration worked with us at a strategic level to put our child in the very best place available. They acted in true partnership, which was DISTINCLY different from what we experience with the public school system, where every attempt to put an ELP in place was countered with disrespect, short sighted posturing and dismissive behavior

In summary, this school - the teachers, administration and staff will put your child and their educational experience first. If you are serious about your child getting a 'private school' education at a charter school price, this school is an excellent option.

If you have a complaint of any kind the school administrators are very defensive; they automatically think you are attacking them if you bring up a concern of some kind.

We personally had an overall poor experience. I believe the school is too concerned with forcing constant testing on the kids so the schools scores look good no matter how much stress this causes the kids. They are defensive if you have any concerns at all and I caught the teacher in a blatant lie that of course they brushed it off. I would have been fine if it was chalked up to an oops I spoke too soon, Im sorry but nope they claim it was never said. We ultimately chose to leave this school and felt the biggest stress relief by doing so!

They do not give homework or let you know what they are learning. You dont know until test scores come back; this school loves to push Loads of testing. They also do not like parental involvement.

I feel many of the teachers here have not had much teaching experience/years under them yet and therefore have not found their way yet when it comes to teaching a variety of learning types.

The administration at this school was my biggest dislike. They do not like parental involvement and if you have any concerns regarding, anything at all really, they become extremely defensive even if you approach them calmly with a simple inquiry. This is especially true when it comes to the principal. You are always wrong and they are always right; that is their thought.

Leadership team has more reactive approach to discuss the situation with parent. I had a meeting with the councilor and she was discussed an old report data( 6 months) and rather than current status of the student.

DON'T RECOMMEND THIS SCHOOL! The administration at this school is not very welcoming. You would think for such a small school they would have a closer relationship with their students. If you wish to be involved with your child's education do NOT send your child here! You will have no control or say over their schedules, classes, and teachers. Students are not provided with a printed schedule. When there is a problem the administration always puts a spin on it and they are never in the wrong. I have heard on multiple occasions them screaming, no joke, at parents, staff, and students.
Although the school has an A grade and high test scores, they lack a community atmosphere. Charter schools are supposed to be a place to excel in both your strengths and weaknesses by gaining the support of your teachers and administration. This school has lost sight of these qualities and turned into a military boot camp. Your children will not get the experience of a regular school; no educational field trips, clubs, school sports, or extracurricular activities. An environment such as this is no place for a healthy education.

My daughter has thrived here at Horizon. I know that standardized testing isn't everything, but gives a snap shot to compare with other schools. However, with scores that blow the county and State averages out of the water, the leadership, teachers, and families have to be doing something right. I am thankful that it is a K-8 school and I am confident my daughter will go to high school more than prepared for that challenge.

My son went to Horizon Charter School from 3rd-8th grade. We feel this was the best decision we could have ever made for our son. I think this school and it's staff is the reason why my son is so successful in high school. He learned study skills, which makes even the most challenging class easy to handle. He learned how to prioritize assignments so balancing homework and extra curricular activities is never a problem. At Horizon he was able to take high school classes, so now as a high school student he is able to dual enroll in college. I would definitely recommend Horizon to everyone!

We loved that homework was minimal. The teachers felt it was more important to teach the students and oversee assignments in class. This way, when a student had a question, they were there to help them.

We loved how our son was taught to work out differences with others by talking and coming up with a solution together. If this approach didn't work, then he could come to a teacher for assistance. He learned Independence, critical thinking, problem solving, respect and compassion.

I sent my child to this school because I believed it would be better than his zoned school, but was very disappointed with how things turned out. Before you make the mistake of uprooting your child from his/her familiar surroundings consider that charter schools dont have to comply with the class size amendment. There were 25 students in my sons 4th grade math and science classes when he attended this school. Since the only homework they assign is a half-hour of reading every night, you probably wont be able to determine if your child is understanding all his lessons during class from that alone. If you like to be involved with your childs education this school is not for you. If you have any problem what-so-ever the administrator will have your childs withdrawal papers ready for you to transfer out of the school in the blink of an eye.

I love my daughters school she has been in 2 yrs so far I wouldn't change anything about it they have bulling under control they have clubs for kids teachers are polite my daughter is so smart their technique they use to teach the kids is awesome my daughter is on a higher reading level than regular public schools some times I think the work is to hard for her and she's proves me wrong every time :) she looks forward to getting up for school and loves her teachers to death overall I would not change a thing!

Tampa Chater is a great school. The staff is so nice and the students are great. I, being a student, love Tampa Chater because all the teachers are always there to help you when your falling behind, and to run with you when your speeding ahead. The one thing I love most is they don't hold you back. If you can score higher than your grade level they let you do higher work, encouraging you to move forward. They are so supportive and I would never want to leave that school. I love it <3

I have two sons attending Tampa Charter School and am very pleased with this school. The Principal is very caring and goes out of her way to get to know all the students. The teachers work very hard and care deeply for their students. My sons very in their learning abilities and are very different types of learners. Tampa Charter has been able to meet both their needs by advancing them when needed and also by offering extra support in areas where they really need it. The best part about Tampa Charter is the teachers, staff, and principal foster raising the childs self esteem. My middle schoolers are confident in themselves and their academics, they have never been bullied at school. I have a sense of peace knowing that my sons are at Tampa Charter and are being prepared for college. Tampa Charter has a low student to teacher ratio unlike most middle schools therefore, I know my sons will not fall through the cracks. Whether you have a child who who has some challenges academically or is gifted this school has the flexibility in place to meet their needs. I am so greatful that I found Tampa Charter and appreciate all that they do everyday!!!

As a student, I used to attend another school that had gangs, bullying, and abusive teachers. THIS school was a literal live-saver. My self-esteem and grades improved DRASTICALLY. The teachers here are honest, caring, and professional. I will always recommend this school to other kids and parents that want successful kids.
