We are so blessed to have found Jericho school for our son. He has gone from a child who didn’t want to go to school, to a child who gets upset when he can’t go. He has grown so much in all areas since he started attending there. He feels very comfortable with the staff, and they always greet him with happy faces and love!

Homework is not required. Daily communication keeps us informed so we can reinforce targets outside of school times. This amounts to “homework” for our child. Appropriately leveled written homework is sent home on weekends per our request.

The teachers are well trained and prepared every day. They have a plan for teaching new targets, as well as plans to maintain previously mastered targets. Daily, direct communication with the teacher allows the opportunity to relay to each other what may/may not be accomplished at home or at school. They are responsive to any concerns or suggestions and they include me in forward thinking on new skills to include in future target sheets and ISP (individual student plans). All teachers are familiar with all students through interactions at start/end of day, the playground, and lunch time.

Teaching character traits can be as simple as distinguishing “nice” and “mean” behavior in their own social interactions or learning to distinguish those types of behaviors in pictures or characters in a story. The teachers at Jericho effectively break down behavior to a basic level so it can be understood and practiced.

Leadership is top-notch and provides essential training for teachers as well as community out-reach. I learned much from this community training and highly recommend it. I feel confident that any issue or concern would be addressed quickly and responsively.

Each semester an updated Individual Student Plan (ISP) is prepared for each student. By its nature, this plan is tailored to each child’s way of learning. The consistent implementation of that plan is key to teaching to each child's differences.

Low teacher/student ratios, so there is not a time when the students are unsupervised. In fact, greater attention is given to peer interaction because it is an area where many of our children need direction and practice.

I highly recommend this school for its consistency and approach to teaching. In this small setting, leadership and teachers are reliable and focus their attention to behavior, academic, social and self-help skills all day, not just for the time of an ABA therapy session. Specific, individualized targets are taught and reinforced, then expanded again and again. They revisit skills to ensure mastery. Most important to our family are daily peer group activities focused on social interactions. It is crucial for children to be able to interact outside the school setting and at The Jericho School this is practiced again and again. Our input on future goals is solicited and appreciated. There is energy, compassion, and teamwork so necessary to teach special children and these teachers and staff have it!

Each student has a unique education plan and all staff are required to know what the plan is and how to implement it. In addition, teachers are rotated at times and there has never been an instant where are child has regressed. I must say at first I was a little nervous about this but have realized that having many teachers knowing your child has been great because the teachers are able to present different ideas to each other to help your child learn.

Teaching these kinds of things to students with disabilities may sometime be difficult, but by incorporating these character traits into there language skills training is amazing. When they are taught ways to communicate there emotions with words it helps the students be more able to manage their own behavior as well as how to relate to others.

The leadership at this school is always present and has direct involvement with the students, from what I can tell on a daily basis. They are always available if you have any questions and are quick to respond when you leave messages.

This is the nuts and bolts of this school. The teaching methodology is based on children with disabilities. They provide an individual plan based on what the student needs to learn not what some school board thinks your child should learn. That plan is than revised each semester. There willingness to think outside of the box as your child gets older is amazing!

The number of students in each class is extremely low therefore it ensures that the students are never left unsupervised; highly decreasing the chance for any bullying to take place.

After many, many, years dealing with the public school system in several states, this school has been a godsend for our son. We saw improvements and gains within the first month of him being at Jericho, that we didn't see in all the years at public schools. I truly believe that if our child had been at this school in his very early years he may have been able to gain all the knowledge he would have needed to function and compete in a a regular public school.

There is a target sheet sent him each week that explains what the student is working on at school. The parents can look at this and reinforce what is being taught at home and in the community. Some of the students have challenging behaviors and it is nice to be have the choice as a parent to decide whether homework is worth the additional battle. As for us personally we were asked if we would like home work to be sent home and we said yes. I am sure if your student is not bringing work home and you would like it, all you would need to do is ask for it.

The Jericho School has been serving Jacksonville for over 20 years. I am very proud to be at a school that has had many families come from all over the country for our services. We are known to accept students that are very challenging – many that have not had educational success and/or progress at other schools. The Jericho School has NEVER been for profit. We put our students’ progress and needs above anything else. The teachers are truly dedicated to their students and strive every day to make sure those same students reach their full potential. The staff (teachers and leadership) work extremely hard as a team to make a difference and improve the lives of their students and, in turn, the lives of their families as well – that is our true mission.

I am proud to say I am currently a teacher at the Jericho School! I have worked at other schools and in other ABA setting and cannot express how happy I am to have found Jericho. It is a smaller school with an amazingly helpful staff that really works together as a team towards the common goal, the children. We are constantly bouncing ideas off each other for different and creative ways to teach new skills and promote learning. We also work together to implement the right plan for each child. As a private non-profit school they focus on each student’s needs and not about the money they are making. They do year round fundraising to offset student cost and they also provide FREE training a few times a year for anyone in the community that might need it. The director provides us, all new staff, with extensive training before we even enter the classroom. Once in the classroom there is support from an assigned mentor, team leads, our education director, the director, and a BCBA consultant who is there at least once a week. The pay might not be the best you can find but the staff is definitely the hardest working compassionate and supportive team you will ever find!

I have been at the Jericho School for a few years. I am proud to be at a school that is widely known for being one of the best schools in the country for children with autism. Staff are well trained and dedicated to helping children with autism. As a non-profit school Jericho puts student progress over profits. I am pleased everyday to see the passion that all my fellow teachers have and the team atmosphere that has been created at this school. I am not sure about the one person who gave a review below that said they were a teacher, possibly they were talking about a different school, or they do not work for the school anymore.

The dollar is the bottom line of this company. They don't put their students first and morale is extremely low. They hire just about anyone off the street with even the slightest experience with kids. Employees are extremely unprofessional and instead of support each other, try to cut each other down. Unethical practices by employees are glossed over and there are little to no consequences. Practices by the school are not in the best interests of the students at all and they don't even have a full time BCBA on staff. They have one that stops by every couple of weeks and is supposed to see all the students but that is impossible to do during one 2 hour visit every two weeks. This school is supposed to be based off of the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis but they don't use these principles correctly AT ALL.
