As the mother of a student, my experience at McFatter Technical High School has been extremely disappointing.
While the school offers strong academic programs, the overall environment has been concerning. In my experience, some teachers engage in behavior that feels like bullying toward students rather than supporting and encouraging them. I also witnessed situations where grades appeared inconsistent and unfair, raising serious concerns about how student performance is evaluated.
Even more troubling, some members of the staff seemed to intimidate or retaliate against parents who reported bullying or raised concerns on behalf of their children. Instead of feeling heard and respected, many interactions left me feeling dismissed and discouraged from advocating for my child.
A school should be a place where students feel supported, respected, and safe, and where parents can communicate concerns without fear of being targeted. Unfortunately, that was not my experience.
I encourage parents to do their research, ask questions, and speak with current families before making a decision. Academic programs are important, but so are integrity, accountability, and the well-being of students and families.
Based on my experience, I cannot recommend this school.

My experience is in this school was okay my English teacher ruin my experience in this school. The teachers are really nice the food is good. She waits last minute the grade the assignment. I really love Ms. Maldonado she is such a great teacher. I really like Mr. Harris is such a nice guy he is really involve with everybody.

dont go there unless things change in block three.it needs to be boycot.these nursing student are willing to do anything and teacher in block 3 is taking advantage of that.enough is enough

Some people are saying this school is "so bad" or whatever, but I say that it's because it's not for everyone. This is for students who want to learn and be successful in the future, not jocks who just think about sports and sports on top of sports with a side of SPORTS. Everyone here treats one another nicely, but just don't get interfered with the College when you're in high school and you'll be fine. The college is not that bad but it's just weird.

Definitely deals with bullying quite a bit. Bullies beware, because you will get kicked out fast.

I've had several children attend the school. The school is an overall good school that compares to many prep schools in the area. It offers a small, cozy environments with ALL classes having less than 25 students. Other schools offer only <25 for core classes. Everyone has a chance at taking AP courses. I just wished that they had more funding to parallel on additional options/choices. However, they more than make it up by offering many other classes at the Technical College that are transferable to Broward College and give the students a view into different fields. They graduate with professional certificates which gives them an opportunity to explore areas of interest and enhances their resume. I've found that when graduating most students know what they want to pursue. They also offer dual enrollment, and many graduate with also two years of college at no cost. They offer tutoring at no cost, and have clubs and leadership activities too. They understand that they lack on the traditional high school socials, and make up for it by giving them an awesome lunch experience with choices of places to eat within the school setting. They also hold clubs activities during lunch, and field trips after school or throughout the day. They lack a sports team, but offer PE choices such as swimming, bowling, golf, weigh training, and have some informal sports team that compete among the Tech Schools (soccer, flag football, basketball). The school team is dedicated and always make themselves available to meet. They get to know every student by name, mentoring many. The comments regarding registration and schedules: every year they hold a student orientation day, this year it was in August 11. They have 10th graders join the freshmen providing them tours to meet all the teachers at the school, and the school makes them a nice lunch. Meanwhile, parents get introductions and information. There are parent seminars during the years to help you navigate the education system and procure opportunities for college. Schedules are provided to students the first day of class and the process is very organized. Since the school is small at 600 students, they bent backwards to accommodate students, as possible. My children played sports at their home school, and both schools accommodated the schedule making it possible. I've found there is no perfection anywhere, but this school offers a good supportive and social environment with better than average substance, and a rigorous pace that prepares students for college.

We love McFatter, the adminstration, support staff through guidance and dedicated teachers make this school exceptional. What a change from my son attending a mediocre middle school to this experience. The staff are proactive, creative and make the students a priority. So far it's been a wonderful experience

The communications department is very unorganized. Digital multimedia are on their fourth instructor in a span of two years. They all quit.

My son's school is amazing. He needed some extra help and they were there without making him feel embarrassed. He is graduating and going on to the Aviation Mechanic program at BC South Campus. Honors courses really helped him with his average.

My best friend and I have been planning to go to this school for what seems to be forever.I am currently in my freshman year and let me just say.. I don't plan on finishing my high school education here. All parents love the school because yeah it has good opportunities but not until you get to your 11th and 12th grade year in your technical program. Half of the time, the school smells like garbage so good luck stomaching your lunch. They say you get more one on one with the teacher but I seem to find that statement invalid. Half of the teachers don't even seem like they want to teach. you'd think with four classes and one of them being planning they'd be more "happy" but this doesn't seem to be the case. Some kids love the school some kids hate it. It all depends on your social skills and academic wants to be honest. Its a really small school so if you love to socialize and get to know a lot of new people, this is probably not the school for you. They choose your classes and all of the same kids are in it like middle school. By the way, there's no sports. good luck!

(CORRECTION)There are many students who are NOT interested in sports and other athletic activity, some call them geeks and nerds, I call them academically inclined students. McFatter is for those students. It makes up for the lack of sports in the clubs, appetizing school lunch choices and the college like atmosphere. I love the school. It prepares your child richly for college and many of the students go off to some of the best in this country. My straight A daughter came from one of those "sports school" in grade 9 as first in her class and was 35th in her class at McFatter. That's what you call RIGOR. She's now a senior who has passed three AP subjects, 2 dual enrollment and is about to take another AP and is just 33 in her class with a 3.8 unweighted. It is not the school for you if you are not willing to work hard.

Let me just start by saying this school is not for everyone. Some people love the school while others hate it! If you're social and love to go to parties and hang out with a bunch of different people every single day... McFatter is NOT for you I mean there are cool kids but the school has about 500 students in total so you always see the same people everyday plus they pick your classes and you have the same people in all of them. Clubs and extracurricular activities; there are a lot of clubs but they get together during lunch and there are like 10 people... the school has NO sports or teams or anything! This year they decided that they were going to do a Spirit Week or something like that (Seniors Idea) and it was Seniors, Juniors, Sophomores, and Freshman against each other during lunch. They played football and soccer in a space that's less than 20 yards, and basketball in the gym but the final was in a parking lot, same place where you run the mile in P.E. and bus drivers get tested at the back of Becon. I just finished freshman year and I already registered in another school for next year. To finish let me just say the mascot is an ATOM! So yeah... Good Bye & have a good life.

-c- are more for social hangout more than anything (w/ the exception of Teen Trendsetters, reason being it is run by an actual teacher). People go the the clubs to eat lunch and hangout privately with their friends while the President of the Club (a student) tries to make the club, an actual club. Considering that having extracurricular activities are very important for college admissions, take that into consideration. Anyway, I am extremely disappointed with this school. I expected so much from McFatter since I have been dreaming of going here since 7th grade. Needless to say, I will be transferring next year.

To the parent that posted the issue with the staff, it would help of you meant the teachers, counselors or school administration. Also, I would suggest to check the school's website, get the email to the principal and send her your concerns. It would not be fair to give the school a low rating when the issue has to do with the administration and not the teaching or the curriculum. Everyone else has given the school five starts, me included.

Many of the staff here seems unhappy, unhelpful, disinterested, and downright angry and rude. Not all, of course, but quite a few. The staff need to get it together and realize that they are making the school look bad and unappealing to present and future potential students. Some teachers are outstanding, others downright make me wonder how they can get, muchless keep a job!!

My son is going to graduate in 2012. We had doubt when my son told us he was interested to apply to this school because we were not sure he was mature enough to go to this kind of school. He fits in well and we are proud of him. This is not the type of high school for any kids. One thing for sure, they will be ready for work or college after graduation.

They were really removed? I am very involved with McFatter. My middle son graduated in 2011 and was at that prom with the non-traditional Prom Queen and King and I am very proud that he voted for them. I also know the Prom Queen personally and love her dearly. I am going to go over there and ask why and what is going to be done about this. My eldest son also graduated in 2009 and my daughter will be graduating in 2012. This is a wonderful school and should be recongnized as such.
